Help please! - Is this a bootloader problem?

Hi,
I keep getting error (Code 43) when trying to upgrade my O2 2002 ROM to WM2003SE.
I've tried everything to get around the error, the only thing i haven't changed yet is the bootloader version. (Currently on v 5.22)
If anyone can provide some advice this would be great.
Thanks
W
Bootloader 5.22 is alright. Have it also and do not have any Problems with it.....
Have you tried another PC to do the upgrade?
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
Yeah - I have tried other machines to do the upgrade - 2 laptops and a desktop.
All report the same error.
The wierd thing for me is that it seems to be Windows XP that reports the error - I get a Code 43 error in device manager - I've attached an image of the error i get.
I've also upgraded all my laptops USB drivers, chipset, BIOS - basically everything to see if it was a problem with a version of the driver or firmware i was running but the error remains unchanged.
Everything runs just fine until Programme A wants to upload the new image - the screen where you should see the progress bar as the new ROM is uploaded - I see that screen for a split second before the Qtek reboots back into the old ROM!
Thanks for the reply
W
Code 43
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
You could try a different usb port and also make sure it is connected direct and not through a hub.
Yup!
Tried both my USB ports, also tried disabling the "USB Root Hub" in Device manager - I don't have a USB hub plugged into my laptop, but there is one reported in Device Manager - I guess it's internal to the PC?
I figured that if there was a hub built into the laptop that would cause the communication problems experienced by USB hubs.
I couldn't disable all the USB Root Hub instances without switching off the USB port, so i closed all the ones i could and still have the port alive.
Still got the problem - The USB Root Hub in Device Manager - you think this is the "Hub" that the upgrade documentation says will create the error?
I give up...
Thats it! Back to the Good ol T-Mobile v4 ROM.
I've done everything including downgrade my laptop to Win 98 to try USB 1 drivers for this WM 2003 SE upgrade.
I've read every research article, installed every patch, been through TechNet and MSDN libraries.
This thing will just not work!
The universe is trying to tell me something!!
usb and 98 is not the best match
some chipset require special drivers for usb to behave like via
with xp having the latest service pack is prob a good idear

Resolved: HSPL2 and HSPL3 and USB Connect Failed

NOTE: I've now resolved this by running program, waiting for error message, close program, run program again.
Hi all,
Attempting to install HSPL onto my HTC HD2 (WWE) running latest stock rom. Followed steps as normal, connect and sync phone with PC (syncs everything successfully), then run 'HSPL3_PKG.exe' (I'm right-clicking and running as Administrator).
It successfully reboots my phone into bootloader (tri-colour screen) but just stays there, after a minute or so (whilst still saying "Waiting for USB connection..."), the program then pops up this error message:
I have tried several cables and different USB ports. I've also tried manually entering the bootloader then running the program (volume down and turn on), also disabled a/v & firewall - all to no avail.
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit professional, Windows Mobile Sync Center 6.1.
Phone software is as follows:
SPL-1.42.0000 XE
OS Version: 5.2.21869
ROM Version: 1.66.405.2
Radio version: 2.06.51.07
I'm a software engineer by profession so don't be afraid to get technical! Any help is very much appreciated.
It happens to some people that they simply cannot get it to work.
Usually it's enough to boot manually into bootloader, shift to a USB port directly on the mainboard, and right click run as admin, but even there some people just can't get it to work for no obvious reason. AV/firewall policies, perhaps, something to do with teh usb drivers, who can tell!
The quickest first test would be to try a different PC. Its a one off process anyway, since flashing and syncing works fine, its just hspl that can be funny.
(Not running on a virtual box are you?)

Thank you very much for your suggestions, very much appreciated although I have solved this now - I did add a resolved message to the top of the message and in the subject including my solution.
Thanks again anyway though.
Why is DFT HSPL2 for HTC Leo so difficult?
Not resolved here although displayed error message is identical to yours. Tried your resolution and same critical error displays.
DFT HSPL2 for HTC Leo USB Connect Failed
Tried all desktop PC USB Ports 2 x Front, motherbaord Rear and 2 x PCI USB 4-port adapters
Followed other users comment; For anyone getting the "USB Connect failed" error, try plugging the phone into a different USB port.
On my desktop, for some reason the front-panel USB ports gave this error, but it worked fine when I used a rear port (failed for me)

This is the same as the recommendation to boot into bootloader manually, and then connect USB, wait for SERIAl to become USb and only then run hspl

because front mounted ports are connected via a usb hub on teh motherboard, , efectively a usb port into a usb port into the mainboard, whereas the ports around back are direct to teh mainboard.

somepoeple simply never get a particular PC to wor, no apparent reason.
The usual three suggestions apply
1 - never forget to right click and 'run as administrator'
2 - boot into bootloader manually, connect usb, wait for serial to become usb, then run hspl
3 - try all your ports, but especially try the ones around back.
EDIT - oh wait, you are on 64bit, there are tons of threads where 64bit wont work. Got a handy 32 bit machine around anywhere?
2010 Resolution on why is DFT HSPL2 for HTC Leo so difficult?
Resolution is resurrect from dead an Acer Aspire 3634 WLMI model ZL6 Mfg date 05 2006.
Update with my today considered sensible software that is Windows XP PRO SP3, current windows updates, antivirus and malware removal software ensuring laptop free of all unnecessary cookies and crap.
Using CNET.com downloaded and installed the three stars Microsoft Activesync 4.5.
USB cable only (no HTC HD2 cradle works here) connect HTC HD2 and run DFT HSPL2 to successfully installed and SPL now displays
PB1100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8C XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
Moral of this story is that you only need a time machine or computer that goes backwards.
Thanks to DFT team
still getting the error with hspl3 on my xp 32 bit machine
update: installing Microsoft Activesync 4.5. seemed to fix the problem
Solution to USB failed problem
Hi, This is simple as a piece of cake
1)Make sure you can access your phone with USB cable or it does'nt show any message like 'Insert disk into drive'.
2)Just Turn on USB option from your mobile device & run HSPL as administrator.
Humair,

I bet you download updated HTC USB sync driver and install it
This will solve your issue.
In wondows vista/ Windows 7 update the device driver in device manager and select to search in the seb for drivers.

[solution] Open com port failure/other problems

so i was getting lots of request about com port failure regarding my thread on un-bricking, suddenly lots of people want to install stock India rom for kitkat update
so i thought lets put all problems people are facing in one thread
USE only XP 32 bit or win 7 32 bit OS nothing else works.
After installing drivers plug the phone and wait for drivers to install and note the com ports
Prob) gnqc download doesn't works gives error "application failed to start"
sol) install VC++ 2005 redistributeble SP1 ATL security upgrade
Prob) receive incorrect parameter error.
sol) you are using Chinese flash tool so make sure your copy of windows supports Chinese change local settings in control panel or use English version
Prob) error in gnqc bp_image file doesn't exist
sol) make sure your stock rom is Indian version and does not have Chinese characters
Prob) open com port failure
sol) check if your com ports are used by any other app if not it means com port drivers are not installed for your phone all you have to do is to reboot the phone while still plugged in and it will install another set of drivers
will it work with windows 8.1 64 bit running windowx xp sp1 in virtual box

No and to everyone trying to do that in virtual box let this be a fair warning the reason is during flashing your phone will switch off/restart that will cause the USB to unplug from virtual machine it will be equivalent to removing USB while flashing and result in bricked phone. though it may work in emergency mode but don't try unless someone who has done it confirms or you have no other option left
PS : if you are on win 8.1 x64 I suggest you to install win7 32 bit on a completely different hard drive because chances are you have an EFI system and your hdd is under gpt so installing 32bit os on that hdd will not be possible
