I'm in a bit of trouble here & really need some help. Basically, I can't access fastboot or get into restore mode, and loading up it just stays on the Rogers logo screen forever.
To be honest I don't remember exactly what I was doing to get to this, I think I pulled the battery after installing an update & rebooting so I could go right back into fastboot mode instead of waiting for it to boot up & then turning it off again. I'm pretty sure I've done that before though & haven't had any problems, so I'm really not sure.
Anybody have any suggestions as to what to do? Again, I can't access fastboot or restore, or really do anything with my phone, so it really makes it tough.
Anybody? I could really use some help here. I'm scared I may have bricked it.
So you take the battery out and unplug it from any USB connections, let that sit for a few seconds (to make sure it's good and off), then put the battery back in. Next you hit the back and power (to boot into fastboot) and what happens?

It just goes to the Rogers screen & sits there. No matter what I try, back/power, home/power, volume/power, does the same thing. I've left it on there for a good 1-2 hours before to see if it goes anywhere, and nothing.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's bricked. Well Rogers will send me a new one, but I have to wait 8 more days since apparently it has to be at least a month old & mine was bought on July 14. There's 1 on Craigslist for $360, so I figure I'll buy that one & use it, then when the new one comes I'll sell it as a BNIB Magic & make a bit of money.
I just died a little inside knowing that they are selling for that in Canada on the craigs. If you're in the US you get a good sock in the face.

Lol, not to mention it's in Canadian dollars too. For used ones they generally go from around $450-$550 or so; This was up for $400 & I got it down a bit; The guy says he just got it a couple weeks ago, still in perfect condition (w/ a screen protector & case too), but he got a new job that requires Blackberrys so he has no use for it anymore. I got my original Magic in a straight up trade with somebody on CL for my Bold.

is it bricked ?
thanks
same thing happened to me and i thought i was bricked. but if you can still get into fastboot and recovery than you're ok.
First things first, I am using a non-rooted droid x. I was using the browser last night, and I opened a picture that was 7mb. My phone then became unresponsive, automatically locked (after 30 seconds), and now, I can't unlock it, reboot it, or do anything at all. I just have a paperweight. I was going to take the battery out, but I now have realized that the case that I got from Verizon is extremely difficult to get off. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually reboot it (like pressing power + home button for 10 seconds on iPhone?), or does anyone have a good method of taking the case off? Thanks. All help is appreciated.
EDIT: I just ripped the case off and removed the battery. It's fine now.
PM me if you want this removed.

You are in Download mode somehow, disconnect any cords and and hold the power button down until the Vibrant screen comes one let go and it should reboot.
If not, try pulling your battery then starting it up as normal and it should reboot.
Unless you jacked something up prior... No Odin or flashin mods? How did you try "resetting"?
This (you situation) can happen because the buttons for power and volume are directly opposed from each other, its real easy to squeeze both which can put you in download mode.
Good luck! Report back if you're back to normal, I mean the phone.
Didn't work. I tried resetting by removing the battery then placing it again. I also tried the one where you hold the volume button down and press the power button and nothing. Phone remains in download mode. Earlier today I did manage to get to the Vibrant screen but the phone seemed to have turnedd off (it had low batt). But right after it turned back onto the download screen and stood there for a while so I think the battery wasnt that low. Any other ways to pop this phone back to normal ?
I am messing with the phone as I type this, right now I actually got the Vibrant screen where it says samsung right under it. It seems to stay there for about 15 seconds then the phone reboots to the "Vibrant" screen again. Just thought i'd post it to give you guys a better idea of whats up. Sorry guys I know I sound pretty dumb but im a phone freak that just loves using phones, when it comes to the technical parts though I know nothing as you can see lol. Thanks in advance for the help !
possible boot loop
it sounds like you might be in a boot loop problem. before the problem happened were you flashing any roms? if so maybe the error may have happened there and that is why you cant get it to load up, if this is the case a fast odin flash back to stock should fix the problem for you.
here is a link to where you can find info about odin. Just make sure you read everything if you choose to go this route.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130
also make sure you get the newest version of odin which is 1.7 i believe it is much more stable in my experiences.
if you have any problems or need help with anything feel free to ask or pm me and ill help the best i can, plus there are loads of amazing people on the boards here that will be able to help you as well. good luck and keep in mind as long as you can get into download mode (android with shovel) your phone is never truly broken.
I originally posted this over on the MotorolaDefy.com forums, but it seems to be pretty dead, so I'm going to quote over my post and then update it with what I have tried since.
Generally, I don't like to post on forums asking for assistance, I know how many repeat problems you guys probably have to read, but I don't know what else to do at this point. I've had my Defy running Cyanogen Mod for months, and earlier today I noticed the Wifi wasn't connecting properly, so I rebooted it. Lo and behold, it became stuck at the Cyanogen Mod screen, it might have something to do with me installing BusyBox earlier in the day. In anycase, I followed this guide: (link removed, since this is my first post - not really important since I figured out the McGyver trick) to attempt to fix the problem. Now the phone won't boot at all, I can't even get to the boot loader screen. RSD Lite still recognizes the phone when it is plugged in, and the white light still comes on when it is charging. I'm scared ****less to take any further actions without input from somebody with more experience. I have to head out to work now, but I wanted to post this before I left. If anybody has a solution to my problem (and I'd be grateful), then I'll attempt it in a few hours. All I'm trying to do is reset it to factory default so that I may reload Cyanogen Mod onto it. The phone worked beautifully up until this point. I am on Telus and I live in Canada, if that is at all relevant. Thanks!

So, since then, I've gotten my screen working again, I had to use the McGyver trick (gypsy-rigged usb cable to the contacts of the battery) to jump start the bootloader, and I managed to flash in the Froyo 2.2, 3.4.2-179 sbf. It ran! Thank god in heaven! But... it got stuck at the T-Mobile logo consistently. Next, I tried flashing in Froyo 2.2, 3.4.2-177 sbf. Again, it miraculously boots but it hangs at the pulsing Motorola logo.
That brings me to where I am currently, which is; I have absolutely no idea what to do next. All I want is to get my Defy up and running with a stable version of Cyanogen Mod again. It ran flawlessly before and I loved my phone, best phone I've ever had. I'm stressing out pretty hard, and I've tried all I can find on the internet. Please, XDA, help me!
Edit: I doubt this is relevant, but more information can't hurt, so I'll add that my Defy is one of the newer ones with the red-lense.
Have you remembered to wipe data and cache (factory reset) in stock recovery?^^
If you still have that data from when you ran cm7, and you're trying to boot stock, it could prevent you from booting! Happened to me once and i just couldn't see what the problem was! Really annoying.
That sounds like it could be the issue, you're supposed to be able to do that by holding volume down while powering it up, correct? Because that doesn't seem to do anything for me.
Not working? Strange. Hold volume down before pressing power button and keep it pressed untill you se a warning triangle. Then hit both volume keys to enter the recovery. Still not working?
Sorry, I should have been more specific, I can get to the little Android guy and exclamation mark, but when I touch the bottom right corner, no menu comes up. I've never actually had to access the stock recovery before, Cyanogen made it so simple. Am I supposed to be doing something other than tapping the screen?
Update: Google is my friend. I found a suggestion that I hit the up and down volume buttons at the same time, and the menu appeared! I wiped the cache and all the use data (important stuff is on a memory card anyway, I'll just have to get my contacts back). I did get an error, reading: "E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log". I rebooted the system regardless and IT BOOTED!
Thanks for pointing me down the right path, I owe you and this forum a great debt!
I'm now going to charge this bad boy back to full before I attempt to reload Cyanogen. (Since having wires hang out the back is starting to get old.)
I managed to short out something doing the McGyver trick, because I'm getting the question mark battery problem. Hopefully it's an issue with the battery and not the phone. I'm incredibly disappointed, the phone is fairly new and I loved it, and don't have the money to drop replacing it since there are more urgent things to attend to. I guess all I can do is hope for the best.
As of now, it won't even boot. I'm going to try the battery in a friends phone and his in mine to try to identify the problem.

I always recommend THIS solution over the McGyver method. Defy is farely often owned phone, so guys... first of all, don't let the battery drain completely; second - if this happens, don't rush into jump starting it. Try all other options first, ask somebody to recharge your battery and don't do McGyver, unless you've run out of other options.
Now try connecting your phone to the wall charger and don't try to start it for at least an hour. I've had plenty of cases when brand new Defy, Defy+ or Atrix, that have never been rooted, leave alone jump started, show the battery with "?" in it when battery drains completely and takes some thirty minutes or so of charging until the phone is able to start again.
Good luck, my friend!
I had made this. .... just in case it can help you

So I have a nexus 10. Firstly it shut's down so damn often. But now it is so bad that I bearly can boot the device. Battry is full charged it for 24 hours. If it boots it gets to the google logo and after that it turns of again. Now I'm asking is there a way to reflash the stock rom? There is still warrenty so I would like to keep it, in case nothing else helps.
Or is there a hard reset shortcut?
Regards in advance
Third post in this thread has info on returning to stock
