Joying or Xtrons 10.1" Android 6.0 2/32Gb in double-din? Are these my best options?
2007 Toyota (Camry) Solara SLE convertible with JBL (7 speaker w/ separate amp) stereo option (no navigation)
Looking for:
Android head unit (recent updates and as futureproof as possible)
Big screen for regular nav use
Spotify (store and play locally to avoid bluetooth)
Pair with my Android phone for calls, updates and downloads via wifi from phone, etc.
Dial in sound as much as possible with EQ, proper control over 7 speaker system, sub level, etc.
Top contenders I've been able to find seem to be this 10.1" quad-core 2GB/32GB A6.0 unit from Joying:

Open to other options as well. Not clear yet if either can be (or should be) rooted. For instance, I woul like to really dial in the sound with a 10+ band EQ, but not clear if I can just download an app for that. Overall, not clear about any proprietary overlays they may have over stock android, and any issues that may cause, or features I may lose if I root system.
Also, how problematic are these oversized 10.1" screens in a double din socket? Theft issues? Brittle disconnect? Some reports of Joying not fitting properly in double din and needing to file down dash panel. Even the 7" ones look like they don't fit properly in double din, though, and stick out a bit with bezel. Is there a better option?

After playing with Joying these few weeks, Anything else is a better choice at this moment. I can only imagine the support from the manufacturer would be more helpful.

I just took a look at the xtrons website, OMG!!!!!! I will NEVER purchase another Joying devices.......period!!!!!!!

That's quite unfortunate to hear since I have read several times that Joying has decent CS as compared to any of the other Chinese manufacturers.
I suppose there are some other options, but the last one I looked at (Pioneer? I forget) was $1300 for what looked like the same features (both units I mentioned are in the $350-420 range)

Looks like a contender on paper. Not 100% sure how to check if that's exact fit for solara sle with jbl option.
Looks like all the obd/tps, etc are extra addons. Would I still need a wiring harness to connect to steering controls, existing amp, etc, or does the fact that it's purpose built for camry mean that comes with?
Not entirely thrilled about purchasing from overseas from a company that clearly doesn't understand English very well. At least they take paypal. At the moment, though, can't even get through to see price as several of their links not working. Could be outdated chrome I'm on at the moment, though. Will check later on another computer.
edit: nope. No price listed, and buy link not working in FF either.

Specific brand/model units come with can-bus decoder that makes swc and everything works as expected as stock units. But ask to any seller

Have asked about canbus, and awaiting answer. Anyone know of a definitive source to see if my 2007 Camry Solara SLE with JBL option would fit a kit that just says 2007 Camry? Also would like to verify wiring issues with someone other than foreign manufacturer (pain to return if wrong) about wiring for jbl option specifically since it has it's own amp that can't be bypassed since spkrs have weird impedance, etc and are dialed for that amp. I see on several of the general wiring harnesses out there that they differentiate between jbl option and non for this model.

I bought the hotaudio/Dasaita HA2153-V600. I found it on ebay.. but you can also buy from alliexpress. You can find more in the MTCD discussion. I havent received it yet but most seem happy with it. Should be arriving next week.. i ordered last weekend..

Yes i received it..first thing i did was update firmware from thr mtcd forum.. 2.52 is latest then i put Malaysk's rom on it.. which allowed for root and is customized. The unit boots quickly.. a few seconds and radio starts playing. Screen is clear and easy to read. All menus seem smooth. One issue is the bezel design. It protrudes from the front of the display about a 1/2". When setting things up and you need to click on buttons near the edge its easy to fat finger.. i wanted the analog rotary knob.. but now if they offered flat pushbuttons and reduced bezel height it maybe better. Finding dash kits is difficult.. none really fit right.. tried 3 kinds.. 2 were same brand but for different cars and was the only brand that fit.. Metra is the dash kit i would recommend.. did have to modify how the brackets attached the unit.. and ypu cant use the frame they include.. it dosent fit around the bezel of the radio. So there is an ever slight gap around the unit. But functionally​ it seems pretty nice..

The gps locks instantly which is a big change from my old unit.. i even have the antenna under the dashboard just above radio.

Toyota prius with jbl.. i did get a pac adapter for the jbl amp that came with the car. Im also installing this unit in a sienna. It came with 2 wiring harness. One is a ISO the other im unsure.. they had connectors on both ends. So if you can find an iso to your car make harness.. there would be no wiring other than steering wheel controls, back up camera ,etc.. no adapter needed for sterring wheel controls.. just find the 2 wires from your oem radio.. connect to key1 and key2 wires then through the system settings there is a setup for teaching the steering control functions.. just hold but down and you then select its function.. mine had volume, channel, mode,voice commands,make call, and end call.. all mapped perfectly

I had similar issue when I was installing the Joying Intel version into my Ford Edge. I had to take my unit and the bezel to a local guy to custom fit it so I could install it correctly. Also still waiting for custom rom for it.

Was curious if anyone was still looking at 10.1's? I have been kicking them around for a year and some change, I keep getting caught up in the stats. I see they come out with a new O/S but then have the old chipset or vice versa. What I like that I see is 8.0 O/S Octacore with 4gb but can't seem to find a brand to do it all together in a 10.1. The three brands I had been kicking around is Pumpkin, Joying, and started to think about Phoenix since I talked to them at SEMA but have since dropped the ball on emails about custom options. I started looking at their Telsa screen setup and was hoping to get something where I could input my car into the home screen but they didn't respond to my email.
Anyways, I would really appreciate some input because once I get a few other things on the car finished up I want to start into the stereo system. Thanks in advance and sorry to thread jack but didn't want to start something new when this was so similar.

Decided to pull the trigger, now I have to figure out all the cool features.

Intel has stopped pursuing the mobile market.. so its the last intel processor you will see for any android device

This Intel Sofia was/is the only unit that could tether via BT because that has the BT chip on the SoM. I was looking for this feature and I haven't seen it in any other chinese unit in the last 3 years. Also this Joying Intel Sofia has a quite decent phone sound quality both ways... Compared with the rest of the Chinese units of course.
In my opinion the only downside is the poor Android implementation, phone Interface app, BT poor implementation... And the Heat that the SoM puts out... No active cooling... No proper heatsink. Yeah it might work ok but working at 60-80C (depending on the load) it will not last a very long time.
Hope they keep Intel a bit longer !

Yeah, I've seen those, I am expecting some prices but to be honest some pictures of the motherboard are more interesting for me... I hope I can upgrade mine

"No Heating" - interesting - appears Joying acknoledge that the Sofia units exhibit an overheating issue. Perhaps these are a v1.2 with passive cooling and a fancy coloured rear heatsink.
Anything coloured gold is performance, right?
I think we all know the hardware isnt the issue per-se and these resellers hook consumers in with "latest, new look, shiny" in an effort to overlook software performance shortcommings of these cheap chinese units.
More likley these units have been manufactured at even lower costs to increase sell margins and that rear panel looks like a development demo which I have doubts over the amp IC heatsink performance.

I am guessing it is a class D amp, hence not much heat dissipation required.

Yes, but their amp in the current Sofia units is most likely D class and it's straight up ****, hence I did the Pioneer chip swap.

The TDA7830 and TDA7388 are both class AB amplifiers. The pioneer 'upgrade' anecdotally improves audio performance (albeit slight) and can only be assured genuine if the IC was purchased from an authorised pioneer spare parts supplier.

That right there made me give up on upgrading the amp. I could not find in my area a seller that could sell me the real thing... An authorized reseller.

So do these actually have a better sound quality? Also does the EQ adjustments on the stereo actually work or are they still a 3 band in this?
Right now I'm deciding between a joying unit or the evo x specific unit (Octa Core model will have 7.1.1 released in two months! Talked to the manufactuer) But the evo unit doesn't have great sound, and that's the one big thing I want out of these, plus I cant find anything on if the audio chip is replaceable on the MCTD.

You dont want to be replacing an audio IC. Use external amps if this is important to you.
My advice is to assess the pros and cons between all units - which are generally software issues - and then decide. I see two options - px5 (mtcd) or JY sofia, the latter due to bluetooth on the CPU board.
Otherwise look for a reputable mainstream branded unit, if cost is not a factor.

I think I'm going to go with the Hotaudio headunit and if that fails. I'll just make my own and use the HA unit case and screen.
The new HA evo x unit already has a TDA7851 which should make a bit of a difference for SQ.

i finally got Joying to tell me what model i have:

They sent me the 10 inch single din with the amp as a replacement unit. I didn't know what model it was, but they finally let me know. I'll post some videos of it this weekend.

Glad it sounds better and might help sway me, though I could do with 2 rear outs and not front outs... Unless you can control them separately as then it won't make a difference but need to set them louder independently to the speakers in the normal iso connection if that makes sense
Be interesting to know if it really does run cooler! Failing that it will be a modded 1 din android 5 version.

I had a lot at your video and in settings the bluetooth menu is missing (like in every other Chinese headunit), if you implement a new unit why don't you do it better then the rest and implement bluetooth tethering?
Why don't you take the time and ask what people want in an unit and take the most important features and implement them? And I mean little simple features like, bluetooth tethering, dpi adjustment (in a car you need everything to be readable from an arms lenght, not everyone that buys the units are 20 years old with perfect eightsight), good radio RDS implementation (something you can't find in the Chinese units) and so on...
I like that the interface is cleaner and simpler than the rest of the Chinese units on the market, big icons, fewer colors than the rest of the Chinese units that like to put all the colors of the world on one screen.
Also lots of people would love to be able to "OK Google" from any screen, to voice dial, answer to sms and so on...

I don't know what example I should provide it's bluetooth tethering, you have it in any android phone no matter how expensive it is.
I would like to be able to connect with my headunit to the internet via bluetooth because bluetooth drains a lot less battery from the phone.
Second to that it would be nice once the phone connects to the unit via bluetooth to be able to connect to data also.... it will be automatic each time you enter the car so it will be nice for the user to have a quick and simple and efficient way of connecting the unit to the internet.
I am glad that you guys want to launch a new unit but there are so many on the market that you will win if you bring some features that no one has
You need to read on what people want and value and implement what you can from those wishes.

I received this unit on Friday and installed it yesterday. I have to say that in the ways that count for me, I already like it better than the Joying it has replaced.
Bluetooth tethering never worked for me on Joying either but would be nice for reasons stated by edit.

Bluetooth tethering works fine on Joying with some additional software... the hardware is fine the software out of the box is short on the option.
If you got the unit, make a review please, post pictures, make a video... let the people know the pros and cons.
There are tons of Chinese units... lots of clones... everyone expects something new.

None of those options worked on my Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S8. They were both AT&T models without root so I bet that is part of the reason why. Not really a big deal to me though. The biggest problem I had with the Joying is the audio. The FM radio audio is complete crap on the Joying. The EQ was pretty bad as well. I shouldn't need a third party audio driver to get decent sound. And that did not work with the FM radio either.
I may take the time for a review once I have had some time with this device. What I will say for now is the UI is 100% better. Everything flows well together and the DPI is spot on. All apps look great and all the text is readable. The built in apps look so much better than Joying to me. Especially the FM radio app. I dont like any of the 3rd party launchers I have tried either, I just want something that is designed for use as a head unit. The sound is definitely better than the Joying as well. I haven't been able to get my ODB II to connect yet, but I had trouble with that at first on the Joying also. The status bar is much better as it shows running apps like a normal Android device, unlike the Joying. There is also a shortcut on the status bar to blank the screen. You can even adjust the illumination of the hard keys to any RGB combination.
I also like the design for the connectors. The only things that attach directly to the back of the unit are the GPS antenna and the FM antenna. All other connections are on modular plugs. This means they don't extend off the back and you can simply unplug the modules instead of each connector. This was an issue for my install as the Joying resulted in the RCA connectors being press against a metal plate that is part of the dash support.
The bottom line is everything works much better out of the box without having to do a bunch of fiddling. I definitely like this unit better than the Joying as of right now.
I almost forgot, I didn't have to do anything to get voice working with any of the apps that support it. It was something that was developed in mind with the build. It doesn't have voice from the launcher but it's working everywhere else I have tried to use it. Finally, apps don't take 300 years to install from Google play. Something that really annoyed me with Joying.

Thinking about testing this unit. When will the 7.1 be available as I feel like the most current OS would be beneficial to keep testing current.

- Decent bluetooth (Parrot).
- DAB+
- Wireless CarPlay + Android Auto

My bet is on this is an MTC(d) unit with a customised UI and the same hardware and issues as all the other MTCD.
The Chinese aren't making anything different, they're all clones off a reference design.
The resellers have little ability to produce something new, little to no influence or desire to improve the MTCD, yet all claim they're better than the next offering vague promises of quality and support - "can upgrade to 7.1”.
The responses of the seller suggests little product knowledge backed by poor quality demo with a lack of detail.
OP - please post clear images from the unit system - about, clearly listing all the manufacturer detail.

Well, it's about time "the" Chinese start building there own sh*t instead of copying some one else's...

Can't stand Android Auto. Much too limited interface for me. Who needs it when you can run Android apps directly on the unit?

Hello, total newb here after a little advice ??

Ok so have tried to trawl the web, you tube and xda but am still struggling to work out my best options.
Totally android newbie, have one for work, don’t really use it much.
Been testing car launchers on it and like the experience.
The Handsfree BT on my Mercedes Vitos radio is fubar, so considering a Chinese Android HU.
Currently considering a Merc oem style Xtrons (4 core 2gb ram) this one is 7.1 or the xtrons 10.1” Octaore 2gb ram, oddly this one is only 6?
Want to mainly use it for amazon prime music, blue tooth streaming (iPhone 7/Apple Music) satnav, and DVDs/films for the kids via HDMI to rear screens (vans for camping and trips to France etc).
Ideally dont want to have to update it straight away but equally am up for it if it’s a big boost.
But my main question is, are xtrons ok out of the box or is there a better make I should look at, or rather the same unit but from a re seller with better support or software?.
Also given the octacore units are the latest, why are the running 6?, and is that even a problem?
Really need the blue tooth for making calls to work well as that the reason I need to replace. Seen mixed reviews we mics wired up to cause echoes etc?
Like the oem style but the 10.1” screen is appealing as it will work well if I manage to upgrade to the new shape Vito next year.
Other wise I am considering a Sony Apple car play. But I think I’ll be bored with that and it will be limited and have a small screen whilst not being oem.

I do understand it may seem silly to ask some of these questions but we all have to start someplace?.
I have no idea what a PX3/px5, mctd or mtcu is?.
But I’d like to understand, sadly trying to search this forum is a nightmare as it either pops up an advert with a guy walking about I think changing bank?. Or I get an offer of a free iPhone off virgin media (scam) or it simply crashes and reloads.
If I could get a few pointers it would be cool so I can make an informed decision.
My current thinking is that Basically the entire android HU production is from a few firms. And pretty much the head units have a ton of promise but are pretty much thrown together. So I’m keen to understand which models are less likely to be rubbish.
And also that as standard most have poor software, but this I don’t get as every android phone I’ve had off work is simply running android. I’ve never noticed much difference?. Why do people have to update the Rom when it’s already running Android?.
What’s a PX5?, from what the be seen that’s the 8 core job, generally with 2gb of ram and a 32gb rom.
Some of what I’ve found seems to indicate these should be better? And that the Bluetooth calling mic issue is better.
Best deal on that is with xtrons as all the others (with a 10.1” screen are only quad core for the same cash.
But what’s the most reliable and useable?. The PX3 (quad core mtcu?) or the Px5 ?
Why can’t the PX5 run Android 6?
And due to this should I just get the Merc style quad core running android 7.1?. Will that be more reliable and useable.
And again Xtrons seem the best all round proposition as seller.
Is the software on the Xtrons useable for basic use out the box?, ie reasonable audio, useable hands free?, gps and able to run amazon prime music and other apps foR the kids in the back?.
200-300 isn’t a small chunk of cash when you have a family of 6 so I’m keen to understand what’s the safest entry to Android HU’s and then what’s the deal and how can I learn more about booting etc.

Lots of questions, but i'll try and sum up:
1. 200-300 that you'll spend is a gamble. I.e. hardware failures/bricks, lack of or no updates to your ROM.
2. Chinese Android HU's aren't refined. They are built/designed with good intentions, however, the software to go with is sucks.
3. The things that you expect i.e. good AM/FM quality, RDS, BT Calling etc, do work, but probably not the same quality as you'd expect (probably from mainstream headunits)
4. There are a few "good" companies that XDA tends to use more than others i.e. Joying, Pumpkin, HotAudio/Seicane/Daistao. When I put "good" in quotations, that means this is relative. These companies come out with software updates, are some what reasonable with end user support.
5. The gamble is, if you get a ****ty unit, and its hardware related, or if you decide to mod it (in most cases you will need to make the most of the HU), and you brick it.. than you have to ship the devices to China.
6. In terms of running the latest android, there really isn't a big advantage to running 7. If you can, get a unit with 6 on it. Updating has limitless possibilities of screwing up.
7. Since you're an android newb.. troubleshooting is going to be a nightmare for you, if you're not satisfied.

Will do, I think I’m going to go for the oem look and go for an 8 core as you get 32gb ram built in so I can store amazon music and movies on it for the kids and listening.

Still tempted on the Xtrons as they’ve got pretty good feedback on trust pilot and at the moment they have 15% off bio first order code so can get it under £300 all in inc an OBDII dongle and a wireless reverse camera (£15 off eBay)

Or found uk firm selling the same (similar) type for the same money looking like it has an Apple type ui and icons and I’ve seen a Seicane reviewed that had the same look. Apparently they are pretty good. I know the reviewer of the video was pleased.
I’ve mailed them to ask about software support etc.
They have 98.5% on eBay and the negative reviews are not on head units though they have lots of positive.

They all have software issues since they have no "real" world testing, their application is so varied across so many car models, that they really can't get it right. The pumpkins/joying/seicane have some what better support, and since they're the most "popular" units out here.. you'll get much better XDA support too (which, did I mention is probably better than manufacturer support? lol).
They're worth a premium if you want something different, to test and fidget with.. there is a ton more functionality than standard HU's, but that comes at a price of course.
Just a word of advice.. don't trust reviews on random sale websites, they're of course selling something!

Got a positive email off Audio Tech Direct this morning that explained all the questions I had Re the two units I liked. I did some research and of the two merc units I like one was 99.9% Seicane and the other was 99.9% a Erisn.
They noted they will give firmware support where needed on an if it ain’t broke basis. Suits me as I don’t plan on fiddling beyond maybe a new car style launcher.
Doing an extension at the moment so need to convince the wife later of the need for a potentially disappointing £300 radio [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Got it yesterday. Really nice, few set up issues to iron out as I was tired last night. But for the 2012 Vito it plugged in and worked straight away.
Happy so far with the unit and the UK seller, it’s a good fit, sound is great, works well looks great. Plugged and played no issues even dash display works on radio channels RDS works, the supplied aerial seems better than stock, didn’t come with the Merc boot screen but that’s in settings and was easy to change (pin code 126 I think).
Love the equaliser and speaker adjust app really good and works well, handsfree is fine via the built in mic (my car one is somewhere in the quad lock so guess it’s not used)
Screens is good, not as sharp as my iPhone but it’s not a £700 Apple product. I had hoped it would be more vibrant but this may be as it was in night mode and I can play with settings. Not used to android so will get my head around it.
Torque app looks good but couldn’t connect to dongle.
Had a few issues getting this onto iPhone WiFi but I think this is the iPhone as it the same with iPad too. WiFi seems good. Was a fair way from house and WiFi from house was connected even though the phone wouldn’t and it’s a newish iPhone 7 so + 1 to the head unit.
Can’t figure out how to change the dash widgets, don’t like the car launchers on android play store so want to get this set for me. Would like weather. Didn’t install till 9:30 last night so was tired.
Only problem really with install was I took the glove box lamp out to help fit a flush mount Usb for the rear usbs on the head units did a bang up job. It the back of the lamp hots it so not have a horror hole. Luckily I can’t see it and will glue some black plastic over it and do it Saturday when I got the parking camera. A class needs a separate power lead which is supplied so still plug and play really.
Starting up isn’t super slow or super fast. By the time I was off the drive it was working, Rev Can mutes radio. Anyway and works ( black screen for now as no camera)
These are the issues and I’m awaiting a response. Till now Audio tech direct have been great with support pre order and on delivery via Sainsburys.

On the buttons the green phone answer key does not light up green at all, the red does.
On the built in sat navs there’s no post code search that I could find. Will only use it when remote and can’t get in google maps and anyway. Or camping.
Also in the supplied Navigation I have the volume set at max but when using it this morning with the radio although the radio level dips the audio on the Nav is too low to be heard.
Strangely the radio is only on 1 but at one it’s the same as half way on a normal radio, may be a default system volume I need to change? on the drive last night you could hear it outside the van on 1.
Also on the GPs occasionally it (very quietly) says gps lost, though a check shows at least 10 channels and good fix. This is on my drive with clear sky above and driving in open environment. Still navs though.
Gps aerial is currently on dash of van with clear sky view and as noted the sat navs still seeing satellite.
Blue tooth won’t see my BT elm327 dongle?. Might be the dongle not used it before.
Tried mirror link and it connected to my iPhone but just made a horrible screaching and displayed a grey screen.
Can’t get the radio to come on without key in, not a problem in itself though the previous unit did, main problem is as soon as the key is inserted to get it to turn on it assumes you are driving so can’t show video or dvd even if the engine is off and ignition not even on. And if you take key out it powers down.
So you can’t watch video.
Made three BT calls one clear two a bit crackling but the wife was in her car in the sticks on her handsfree and the Sony BT crackles on my iPhone ad2p connection so might be her. Last night to her m bike was fine. So happy ish.
Main thing is how well the seller supports the little issues I have.

I was just wondering what car makes & models you use with your Android Head Unit?
I'm currently looking for a (used) car to buy that I wish to upgrade with an Android Head Unit. Unfortunately I'm having trouble finding many cars (made in the last 10 years) with a 2 DIN slot, so I was wondering what cars are people using with their Android Head Unit.

I like the way Joying works with VW/Skoda cars dated 2006-2013 for having CAN bus adapter and factory equipment looks.

First unit (Pumpkin) was in a 2003 Chevy Suburban. I now have a 2013 RAM (Dodge) 1500 with a Joying Sofia and I just put one in my wife's 2005 Infiniti G35 about two weeks ago.
Suburban was easy, RAM required a cause install kit I had to file down a bit. The Infiniti was a huge pain. Wiring harness didn't have all wires so I had to splice into some. The heat and AC controls are on the same circuit board as the radio, so it all has to be replaced. The aftermarket install kit is expensive and chinsy (from what I read) so I paid a little more and got a double din factory panel, made for the Nissan Skyline, sent from Japan.

First unit (Pumpkin) was in a 2003 Chevy Suburban. I now have a 2013 RAM (Dodge) 1500 with a Joying Sofia and I just put one in my wife's 2005 Infiniti G35 about two weeks ago.
Suburban was easy, RAM required a cause install kit I had to file down a bit. The Infiniti was a huge pain. Wiring harness didn't have all wires so I had to splice into some. The heat and AC controls are on the same circuit board as the radio, so it all has to be replaced. The aftermarket install kit is expensive and chinsy (from what I read) so I paid a little more and got a double din factory panel, made for the Nissan Skyline, sent from Japan.

This is in a 2013 Altima V6. Great car and even better with this unit.
My car came with the 5" display (backup camera, XM radio, USB but no navigation).
The fit and finish are exemplary.

Another v6 Nissan Altima here, 2017 3.5SL, got the 10.2" Dasaita px5 2gb octo-core running Malaysia rom v6.2.
Wiring was a bit of a pain, reseller sent the wrong wiring harness and canbus adapter. Hacked together a new harness and managed to get them to send the correct canbus adapter.
Overall very happy with the results, integration with oem backup camera, steering controls, etc. Audio quality is its biggest downfall, but I think this is also b/c the Altima bose setups are junk

Do you have the same FM radio app as I have? (the one that does not let you change the name of stations in memory). I am curious to find out if there is a better one somewhere.

I use the stock one, I only really listen to one station other than that it's Spotify or audible. I remember seeing someone made a custom radio app on here for these Android units,but I never tried it. Can't seem to find it in the main px5 app repo thread though maybe it was removed

I dont know how to google right term so im gonna ask here. Why manufacturers like Pioneer,Sony,Kenwood wont produce HU with complete android operating system?

OK, it's not a severe problem as the radio works well enough, but it is irritating that something that sounds as simple as being able to enter a name for a stored station is not available. I also saw that the FCC launcher has a page for saving radio stations' names, but that does not work with my radio app and I could not find what app I am supposed to use.

A) They want to control the entire user experience
B) Not be liable for people running third party apps on branded equipment
C) They're building music players / navigation devices for the mainstream, not hackable devices for nerds.

Thanks leonkernan for answer. Well i must say that i never looked in that direction But you pretty much nailed the point. Next question. So nowadays they offer car stereos with android auto or apple car play. Are they providing updates for that apps installed on car stereo, how is that managable? (english is not my native so i'm sorry in advance )

Anyone using theirs in an Evo? I have an Evo 8MR, and I'm somewhat limited to what I can buy, which sucks. I wanted to try something that looks more oem, but meh.

I drive a 2015 Camry, has 12 steering wheel buttons on 3 lines, plenty of room for a universal 2-din mounted in an aftermarket adapter. Has CAN but I never did anything with that. I'm interfaced to the oem GPS antenna, Mic, and aux/usb input.

I put a Pumpkin unit into my E46, worked very well, but Pumpkin don't like to share their firmware,
so in my VW EOS I put a Joying UK-JY-VM130N2D specifically made for the UK market, but supplied with German language apps and base system for some peculiar reason. Joying are easy to get along with, they will answer emails, but only one per day, once again for reasons known only to the Chinese mentality. My daughter-in-law is Chinese and she also does things in a weird way to my western mind......
Anyway, the joying was the best experience, it did suffer from the battery drain problem with the original can-bus module that came with it, but Joying sent one free of charge and that fixed it. This one has a digital amplifier built-in and it sounds great to my old ears-in my misspent youth I was a rock band member and we always used the same setup on stage so my right ear is pretty shot.
I have since disposed of the E46, but I use the EOS daily and the unit does all I want. I did the heatsink and fan mod advocated by so many on here, but to be honest, in the ****ty weather we get here in Poole most of the year there is no problem with overheating!
