When the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) received official Android 6.0.1, I have manually installed that firmware on my device. Within few weeks ago it shows that my microSD card (64GB) corrupted. At that time if i connect to the PC I can access the SD card without any error. When I tap on "fix it" it format the SD and again it shows the exact same issue.
If I connect this sd card to a PC or a another Android device (runs ICS), these devices are not detect any error. Then I rebooted my S5 into a safe mode and again it shows that issue. However, this issue will fix if I reset the phone. After few days left it again appear that error.
So how do I fix this matter?
My wifes phone has the same issue.
Non rooted phone - 100% stock. Never messed with it.
After the MM update the sdcard just says corrupted.
As soon as a photo is stored or if google play music downloads a track to it it is corrupted.
Really annoying.
Going to try a full wipe now but I'm glad it's not just her phone. I thought the SD card had died and we haven't had it long.
Looks like it's something samsung have done.
Tried formatting the SDCard with a PC?
My SDCard is the same one I've had since I got the phone, through KitKat > Lollipop > MarshMallow, and has never been wiped or formatted, still got the very first photo I ever took with the phone on it

No need to wipe SD. Connect that SD to a PC and copy all the files.

I think this issue caused by some sort of app or its a firmware issue.
Yeah it's been formatted. I did pop it into a pc to try and save everything but it demanded a wipe.
So I did.
It worked for a little bit and corrupted again. Now when I pit it in the pc it struggles to read it and the phone won't "fix it" either.
Tried to wipe it in a few different programs but it appears the card is corrupted.
It's a 64gb Samsung card. Only had it since January this year. Bought brand new from amazon.
I have another in my note 3 and that is still perfect.
The only saving grace is that Google photos had all the photos synced.
So i'm going to email Samsung about it as there has been no issues with the card until the moment the MM update hit.

Try MiniTool Partition Wizard
Delete all partitions on the card > create new primary partition > Format to FAT32
MiniTool Partition Wizard free
https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Used that to repair SDCards and USB drives a few times
You can also do it manually with elevated CMD: (Hit enter after each)
------------
diskpart
list disk
select disk x (x = being the disk number of your USB drive/card)
clean
create partition primary
active
format fs=fat32 quick
assign
exit
--------------
Try the card again

Already tried diskpart. No dice.
Just tried MiniTool Partition Manager. Still nothing. It lets you delete the partition and then creates a new partition instantly.
It has however now loaded in windows and shows 4 android folders but even after a delete on the partition and create new it makes no changes to the card.
It also wont let me add anything. Almost as if it is locked to read only.
So thanks for the advice as I can now see the card in windows "sort of". It's really slow though. But I can't put anything on it or wipe it or do anything with it really!
Windows 10 also says there are errors and when you let it error check it just stops responding.

If it still shows android folders on it, then none of the partition commands you've used, nor minitool have done anything, as you'll know, deleting all partitions on a disk completely wipes it
With MiniTool, it works a weird way, you have to basically tell it what you want to do, all steps, and then hit apply at the top, once you hit apply, it then performs the steps it looked like you had already done manually
EDIT - Just a thought, a live Linux CD/DVD/USB might have more luck, Linux doesn't care about permissions etc

I see... I have used Partition Magic in the past and if I recall you had to do this back in the old version. Completely forgot.
I've done that and it's trying to do it. It's going very sloooooooow. But it is getting further than diskpart did!
Will update when it decides to finish.
Good luck, might find it takes a few runs to undo whatever the phone/droid did to it
Unless of course it is physically damaged, but I've not had any problems with MM and my SD
EDIT - Found this from way back in 2010 in my repair folder, "Pen drive repair"
Code:

I tend to keep random programs that have fixed something difficult in the past, and put them in that repair folder, worth a shot

Will take a look at that tomorrow.
It formatted the card but as soon as it finished and mounted it Windows popped up and said there was a problem and it needed scanning.
Once it opened there were still 4 android folders on it....
Annoying.
Yea very, well it's definitely not deleting the partitions if it's still got all the old folders on it
Running the tool as Admin?
It does sound like it's physically damaged, but I thought that about a 16GB flash drive I had, and another 8GB I'd left in a tub on my desk for years because it was dead, then I used diskpart and repaired both of them the same day, and since then, minitool has fixed them
Tell you what you could try, Win32DiskImager, grab any image, say a Raspberry Pi image, and use Win32DiskImager to write the image to the card, I think that uses disk/device rather than partitions to write to, so it should overwrite absolutely everything
Then you can use Minitool to wipe and format back to FAT32 (Hopefully)

The trouble with that is I can't write anything to it. It gives an i/o error ever time I try.
I'm tired now so i'm going to head to bed but tomorrow when I have a fresher head i'll take another look.
Will let you know how I go on. Will try that other tool you suggested.
The way Win32DiskImager writes to the disk is different to how Windows tries to write to it, basically like burning an ISO, vs copying files to a DVD
Yea, get some shut-eye, things are usually much simpler after a good nights sleep
Hi, i lost a kingstom 9GB after take out this card from a Samsung. I formatted, and after a few days , i disvovered, that card was set to be encrypted inside the phone, if someone takes out, and formats without unencrypt, on 2 or 3 cycles mor, the card will die, or lock, io root, i never found a solution for this, in my case, the card was locked, (ro), without any error in the partition.

Sorry, i wrote wrong, is 8Gb, was the second sdcard lost by me, the first, was a 2Gb used on a nokia e7, that, after format this card the card was locked (ro) at all on all type of sdcard reader , usb, pc. The name, i found, is Cyclic Redundance Error, (formatted without unencrypt the filesystem)

Pen Drive Repair does nothing. Can't even find it.
Tried it another 2 times in MiniTool but still goes through all the motions but returns with the same four folder on the card.
I did a surface test and it found no errors. So reading it is fine. It's the writing to it where it fails.
EDIT: What I have just noticed is MiniTool states:
Capacity 59.64 Used 59.64 Unused 0B
So the card thinks it's full but there is nothing on it.
EDIT 2: And now in MiniTool is just says BadDisk. Looks like it is completely dead.
Well, there's nothing to lose by trying Win32 DI, unlikely to work,. but might as well try before writing it off

Gave it a shot. It wont even let me pick it as a device. Windows has stopped adding it to the "My Computer" list also.
I've wasted enough time with it. Only bought it in January this year so I've emailed Samsung both about the warranty on it and also that there is a possibility the upgrade to MM caused it on the S5.
It seems to have happened to the OP and me so I thought I would mention it to them in case.

PROBLEM:
Now, the problem all started when try to format the micro SDHC on the phone or on the PC with card reader.
Tried with differ format program also low level not worked.
DONT USE THESE!!! Waste of time!!!
SOLUTION:
So after doing some thinking about the situation, I figured that there was a problem with the card inserted and find the file EncFiltLog on it.
It is the WM 6.1 encription file. You can't delete, move files from or in to the SDHC.
The best way to solve this issue, as the hard-reset DOES NOTHING to fix this issue, would be to have windows hopefully find the connected device and format it. Here are the EASY steps which DO NOT involve using a dozen computers and has provided the same result EVERY time; which is a working on my 8gig memory in my HTC HD.
1. Connect the HD to the computer and select DISK DRIVE as the option on the on-screen popup on your phone. Don’t select ACTIVE SYNC. If you miss it, then go into your phone and press START>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS TAB>USB to PC and select the bullet of DISK DRIVE and hit ok.
2. On your computer, (USING A WINDOWS XP MACHINE), go into your "My computer"
3. A window for will open with two columns.(If not, change the view to "Group") We are looking at the RIGHT side right now. In there is has three categories, and we are only focusing on ONE of them. LOOK for STORAGE which should be the center category.
4. Click with right to the desired "Storage device; A: ; D: E;", it will take a minute or two depending on your computer speed and environment to populate your hard drive and connected memory devices.
5. You will eventually see your PHONE internal storage listed. IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME BECAUSE YOUR PHONE INTERNAL STORAGE IS CORRUPTED!
***BE SURE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT IS IN FACT YOUR PHONE AND NOTHING SOMETHING ELSE LIKE YOUR MAIN HARD DRIVE OR SOME OTHER STORAGE DEVICE WITH IMPORTANT FILES ON THERE***
****I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU FORMAT THE WRONG DEVICE***
6. Choose format and let it format the drive. This should also take a few minutes. Select FAT32 and name is whatever you want! Let this finish COMPLETLY!
**Your almost done**
7. Now you can copy, anything you want on it, but if you put again in to the PDA then the
EncFiltLog will come on again. But at least you not have to throw away the card,
you can use it again.
8. Finally my last comment:
If you want to speed up the card (.cab installation, copy, move ...etc.....)
the best way after all this work listed above, you should made a BACKUP from all your PERSONALITIES and
make a HARD RESET.
After it should speed up all the programs and processions with the card.
If you done then one IMPORTANT THING!:
YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER TAP ON THE CARD ENCRIPTION IN THE SETTINGS,
NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!!
Hope this helps you all out!!
BTW: I want to say thanks to XDA-FORUM (all people) to make my life easier
and to found the right gadgets to use, to play and enjoy it....
Wow - not bad at all for a first post!
Welcome to the forum!
Thanks for providing a solution!

Yesterday it happens for the second time that my SD-Card gets corrupt again, the first time it happens with a 8 Gb SDHC Sandisk and now with a 16 Gb.! After a hard-reset.Didn't know before I read this post that this could happen ever!??
And indeed I couldn't write or read on the card or format it again, even with a cardreader!
Both cards are useless about €120,- thrown away, gone
Didn't know before I read this post, that this is an WM 6.1 encription issue. Never used or even tap it.
Now I format another 8Gb like the way you describe here, i hope that when i need to do another hard-reset i can use the card again!
BTW, its a little bit strange to me that there are so little reaction from other users here about EncFiltLog problem?
I hope that there will come a solution in WM 6.1 to prevent that b!llsh!t.
Thanks for the great support, i hope it realy works!
Nice post
I have one more question:
What may happen when I delete this encryption file? Is it possible?
P.S. Sorry for my english :/
Hi Everyone!
The best way, if you purchase a new card, to FORMAT at first.
Then you put in to your phone and try not to teke it out any more.
If you want to use it as USB reader the as I write in my first post
START>SETTINGS>CONNECTIONS TAB>USB to PC and select the bullet of DISK DRIVE and hit ok .
In this case you can use the phone as a card reader.
It is speed up the file transfer vs. ACTIVESYNC.
If the card is not recognised ether way then,
because of the too much taking out - - put it back; went to faulty.
You can go back to the store for guarantee replacement.
The EncFiltLog is a problem only if you encrypted the card.
The solution to delete it and use as new card described in my first post.
If you put a new card in to the Phone then this file seem to be created by the OP system.
You can delete with format, but it will come back again and again.

Your right, the file is still there again!
But I have also a question about a next( hope not) hardreset on my device!
Is it better to format the SD-card (with USB on the device) before or after the hard-reset to save the further use of the card?
Because in my experience you have to start installing everything over again, because the data on the card was anyway corrupt and useless.
It is NOT recommended to use the MS Windows Format command to re-format any SDHC card - it will format them, of course, but with the wrong cluster size, slowing access speed down and possibly causing other problems.
I would suggest to always use a tool like Panasonic's SD Formatter when formating any kind of SD card. You can get it here: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html

Will creating a read-only, hidden folder called "EncFltLog.menc" on the card prevent this problem?

What do you mean? How do you do?
HI folks, glad to find some peeps who are suffering from the same problem...
The solution here seems not to work for me, as I hard-reset my TouchHD before I found out about that encryption ****up...
Is there any solution that allows you to reformat the card?
Not to mention that I NEVER touched that damn encryption option as I really never trust M$ that far with my data... seems it got me Pwned anyways...
Anyone ever tried to Write M$, tell them what a bunch of wacky Ho's they are and demand a new miniSD Card from them?
sorry for my language but atm I mad as hell as I just lost a 8GB and a 16GB sanDisk...
I experienced a lot of bc during all the yaers messing with M$ stuff but this ****up ins unbelievable...
I had the same problem with my 8gb sandisk.
I would like to add that I was able to retrieve most of my files from the memory card using EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional. You need to do the data recovery before attempting to reformat the card.
Hi guys sorry for messing around in your forum but this post is the closest solution to my problem. I cannot format or save anything to my 16gb sandisk card because of that bloody encryption file. Now the problem is that I'm a Kaiser user and I do not have disk mode in my phone, so has anyone successfully formatted their card without using disk mode?
one very quik question. Does this fix the problem for good? you can use the sdhc card with the phone or will it always end up with menc file?
card unreadable in one night
Yesterday, my sdhc 8gb card was working properly but in just one night something happened to it. In the morning, I came to know that it is not more being recognized by htc hd2. Every time I soft reset or hard reset the phone a message come up saying "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable? this will permanently delete any files on the card." when I click no nothing happens and phone keeps on working and if I click yes then the card is formatted in just 1 second. I tried formatting the card myself from phone format tool (there is format card tool in tools section of the phone) but it is showing only 30.61 mb instead of 8gb.
After reading this thread, I think the problem is with EncFiltLog. Actually I backup my phone and card yesterday with sprite backup. I also backup EncFiltLog on my pc. Now after hard resetting the phone I delete the newly created EncFiltLog file by the fresh WM 6.5 installation after hard reset. I deleted that file from my pc by using the phone card storage as disk drive instead of activesync and simply shift+delete the file from removable storage in My computer. After that I copied all the phone card backup (including EncFiltLog - old one) on the freshly hard reset phone. Now all of sudden in just one night phone sdhc card is not able to recognized by phone.
Moral of the story: Never backup EncFiltLog. Keep the newly created EncFiltLog file by wm 6.5 after hard reset and copy your all files and folder from card backup to phone card (excluding EncFiltLog) after a hard reset. Don't ever overwrite the newly created EncFiltLog.menc file with old one from backup.
Reason: I think WM 6.5 pairs the newly created EncFiltLog with its some key on phone internal storage. Remember how encryption works? I am talking about public key and private key pairing. I think WM6.5 pairs one key stored in EncFiltLog with another key stored inside the phone interal storage which is itself freshly created after the hard reset but when we copy the old EncFiltLog from storage card backup to freshly hard reset phone storage card, those key pairs won't match anymore and windows mobile 6.5 simply locks up the card.
it is my own opinion.
One more clue
Ok guys, I've got one more clue after googling and reading other threads on this forum. May be HTC is supplying fake 8gb sdhc card with hd2.
I've came on that conclusion because yesterday there was more than 5 gb space left on my phone storage card. In the night RSS Hub software has updated all the feeds and stored those feeds on storage card (I've set feeds to be stored on storage card). I think something has been gone wrong there. May be the actual capacity of this fake storage cards in far less than what is written/claimed on the card (i.e. 8gb). In the night as soon as the RSS Hub stored feed on the card, it somehow corrupted the card FAT writting its data on sectors of the card where it should not be.
Hence the card is corrupted now just showing 30.61 mb instead of 8gb. There exists no solution for this situtation till now. I've sent mail to HTC regarding this on their customer support page. Let's see what would happen now. I suspect either HTC or my dealer would say that the storage card don't come under warranty. Let's see now. I will update the thread soon.
My problem is the same.....
after HSPL I faced "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable?..." and after that I lost my mSD.
Format Storage Card didn't worked. it shows 30.61MB , Cluster Size: 0KB
also Clear Storage didn't worked...
System > Memory > Storage Card > Total storage card memory: Not installed
Is there any other way to fix this problem? because of my country, it is difficult to use HTC Service...
Ok well I removed my sd card from my G1, and when I put it back in it gives me a "Blank SD Card" notification. I tried resetting my G1, and it didnt work. So I mounted it on my laptop and now it says "Drive G is not formatted would you like to format now?." I am really not trying to lose all my data and apps, and I kno my stuff didnt get deleted, how can this b fixed?
One of two ways, in my eyes.
First try looking at paragon, it might be able to find the partitions again and hopefully repair them.
Two try a data recovery program, personally I like GetDataBack but it only works for FAT and NTFS and not EXT2 if your data and apps were on that partition.
Hmm I tried GDB and it took about an hour and what do u kno I need the licensed version to get my files off, and will Paragon work? Cuz I dont wanna waste another hour.
SD Card fix ok
just put the sd card inside the adapter that all sd card brings when you get it.ok
AND than insert it on your labtop and copy all your files to your computer and format your sd card..

I dunno, that's why I asked if you had tried it yet or not. You can always burn a Ubuntu livecd and test it without installing anything. As long as the partition table is intact it should be accessible.

I loaded up Cyanogen's latest last week, formatted my 16gb to EXT2 and Fat32... all was working great for a week, then today, my G1 went blank. Upon a restart, the SD card came up with "Blank SD Card." Viewing the card from my card reader... can't read any files... what's the program that you "found?" I'll probably just fight through reformatting and rebuilding all my files... Later I'll perform file backup when I get it right.
this sound like your problem??
Hey asaspades, something like this happened to me a while back and I could read it on my laptop/cardreader and recover my files and reformat. Obv u have tried this. The thing is the same thing has hsappened not 10 min ago lol. When this happened before I was running my g1 as stock but now I have cyanmod (3.6.8.1 I think) amd apps 2 sd on ext2 partition. I am not at a computer atm but will try to recover the same way as before though I won't be able to access the ext2 partition (will try with ubuntu, hav wubi installer on pc). Oh and I rebooted after I realised something was wrong and now have a constant preparing sd card checking for errors notification. This sound kinda similar to your problem at all? I would like to know what is causing this. Maybe I just have a bad/corrupted sdcard lol. Anyway its really pissin me off not knowing
Left 4 a while and it now says damaged sdcard you may need to reformat.
So I originally asked this in Amon_RA's recovery thread, but was kindly asked to move it here. So here's my issue.
My G1 is not recognizing or creating any ext partitions using either the manual parted method or the automatic script include in Amons recovery. Using the manual method to make ext2 I get the following error:
Error: Input/output error during write on /dev/block/mmcblk0
Retry/Ignore/Cancel
Fat32 gets created fine.
I used fdisk on my laptop to create the partitions and it seems to take, but once I put the sd card back into my phone it disappears. Taking the card out of my phone and back in my laptop, the ext and swap partitions are gone. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem could be, or is my card just pretty much bricked?

I've been pulling my hair out for the last day trying to figure out why it would act like it partitioned fine, but then when I did a 'print' in parted it would only show one FAT32 partition. I had the EXACT problem the OP was having.
Half my day spent looking for some other resolution and then realized I had another SD card with me (just half the size) and tried it in the Recovery with that one with complete success. No errors or anything. I'm trying Paragon Partition Manager for my larger card, but not finding an option for the ext2 (or other UNIX) formats. It's the free 2010 version so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Bad SD Card - Paragon Killing USB Drivers?

So, version 9.0 has the options for the needed Linux partitions. With that, it would appear I have a bum 8GB card. As stated, the 4GB works just fine - both Transcend Class 6 cards. On one PC it was having a difficult time in the formatting process after creating the partition and I had to kill the application via task manager in Windows. Then it got to where my USB port drivers couldn't start so I couldn't read via SD card adapter or USB cable to the phone with the card mounted. I'm in IT so I've dealt with drivers failing before, but I'm finding myself having to ask my friend Google now as even after uninstalling the drivers I have the same result. I'm afraid it might be due to the Paragon application. More on that below.
I installed Paragon on another laptop at home and it went through the process successfully (at least appeared to) with the 8GB card. Joy had returned to my frustrated being and I proceeded to use the restore image to upgrade from ext2 to ext3 - success! - Then it was wipe and flash. All seemed well in the world until I went into the settings after getting into the OS for the first time (again) to look at my secondary SD Card space and found it at "unknown." Looking at the card via Paragon Partition Manager once again it was showing as only two partitions instead of three with the ext3(2) being "unformatted." Just to be sure, I put in the 4GB card to verify in Paragon it's showing as expected (three partitions in correct formats).
Being the stubborn sod I am, I came to work determined to get the 8GB card working and installed Paragon on a test machine (I run a large testing lab) and redid the partitions. Removing and re-adding the partitions on the 8GB with "success" then simply unmounting and mounting the card to the PC revealed the card is definitely the major flaw all along. After mounting it came up as just the two partitions again - FAT32 and unformatted for the 2nd, even though it was only 10 seconds ago it showed successful creation of the three and formatting. Because I'm one to verify a verification I repeated my steps to see the same result. However, not only did I see this same result I now DIDN'T see the SDCard via Explorer, but could via Paragon. Inspection of Device Manager showed the exact same thing as on my home laptop that stopped being able to read the Android phone with card or adapter with card.
So, my last couple days of fighting and frustration were all because of the SD card of which I've never had a problem with it storing data for the last year with many times reformatting and re-applying data. Odd, to say the least. I am back up and running, but now I have USB drivers failing to start problem on two PC's! This is not a concern with the one at work since I'll just restage it, but I'm afraid it might take restaging my laptop for this to be fixed which as we all know is just not very convenient.
Anyhow, the lengthy explanation was more for those like me that were Googling/searching for a long time for a similar situation.
Cheers.
I have a similar problem. One of my SD cards of 1 GB has ext 2 and 3. But the main one of 2 GB can be partitioned only with ext 2. I am using Amon Recovery 1.5.2. When I press create ext 3 I get an error and not even from console it doesn't work, I get upgrade_fs not found.

I would say it IS the same problem and that your card is not being partitioned properly. The reason it can't upgrade from ext2 to ext3 is because there isn't ext2 to begin with even though the partition process gave a "success" result in the Recovery. I'm using the same Amon 1.5.2 as well. It somehow will not format as the space will be there unformatted if you open the card in a partition application with GUI.
Going to the SD Card settings from within the OS you'll see the SD Card secondary use grayed out and showing "unknown."
So what is the solution? What if I buy a new card Class 6 that can't be partitioned?

I would say keep your receipt and return it for another. I've had issues with SD cards before where they kept going corrupt within a day of use and just returned them for another (same brand, same model) that would work fine.
It's not a hardware problem, I managed to partition it after some tries. I think that Amon RA recovery does not recognize the sd card sometimes. It worked after I hit the reboot button in recovery and pull out the battery. After that I went back to recovery and I could partition it.

bug a friend with a linux///mac machine and partition it with that. i've seen lots of problems with usb/partitioning on windows ,and never had the same problem on mac/linux. 3 microsd cards were 'unusable' according to vista, reeformated just fine with osx.
give it a shot.

You verified it worked with looking in the SD card and Phone storage settings?
I've also discovered that the 4GB card that I was able to partition without a problem was one I should've thrown out as I couldn't remember where it came from until after dealing a couple days of constant lockups on the phone (now that things are running off the SD). It was thrown in a drawer due to going corrupt every few days where the data on it was lost/gone/unreadable. Going out to get a new SD card today.
To the statement about bugging someone with a mac/linux, that doesn't appear to be the issue here since it won't work with using Gparted either (at least in my case).
Just an FYI update, that after buying a new (not the lowest end) SDHC class 6 8GB card, it partitioned just fine in the recovery image along with being able to upgrade the ext2 to ext3 then ext4. Now I'm finally seeing the speedy benefits running Cyanogen's latest ROM. No issues since replacing with a good card.
I used the root method at unlockr.com, and i have #root# access in the terminal emu app. When i get to the part at unlockr about flashing recovery, (thru terminal emulator) i get an error reading /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.iso
I have RUU'd the phone at least 5 times... I have also tried using the cmd using the guide here, and get an error at basically the same spot.
my hero is 1.56.651.2. i have spent over 15 hours across 2 days searching forums and trying different methods, but i guess i must be doing something wrong.
btw.. the very first time i tried using the method from unlockr (root through cmd, flash recovery through terminal emu) it *almost* worked. It tried and got a ton of messages and an error regarding too little memory. after i looked it up and realized i could have just freed up memory in the PHONE(not sdcard) it was too late, i had already RUU'd again. It hasnt come close to flashing since, only the error reading message.
i get an error reading /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.iso

do a RUU to go back to bone stock, same version you have
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608434
follow this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291
EDIT: and when it get to this part about "flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img" give it an extra min after you hit enter and it "looks" like it's done before proceeding
let me know if you get stuck, i'll keep an eye on this thread also let me know at exactly which step "looks weird"
oops that was just a typo. I have been using .img for the file ext like you are supposed to. I have formatted the sd before trying, and the same error. The guide you pointed me to also did not work, I always get a flash error at (step 18). I have RUU'd at least 5 times to start over, and it didnt help any.
and about giving it an extra minute after the flash command, it instantly tells me
"error reading /sdcard/recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img"
so i cant really do that.
What should i do
I have ran into that same issue. I would guess you have upgraded the stock sd card. If you have, it is formated to fat32 not fat like the original. Try formating the card fat then try again. Good luck to you.
Dave
EDIT: I see you have formated the card. I believe the card has to be fat not fat 32 (someone correct me if im wrong). When I was rooting my phone I had same error til I formated it fat. May the force be with you.
What do you mean by upgraded the sd card? I didnt ever do that...at least not on purpose. So how would i check the format?
Put the card into a card reader in a pc, right click on drive and hit properties.
crap, i dont have a reader for this type of card. no way to do it through the phone?
and this problem couldnt be from anything else, could it?

you can mount the card from the notifications bar when you plug your phone in usb. then just right click on the removable disk in my computer (mine's drive H: ) then click "properties"
it will bring up this window
if it says FAT32 then there's the (assumed) problem.
Okay!
it IS fat32.

do you know how to format?
before you format be sure to save anything you have on your sd card that you want/need as it will erase everything.
1. move anything you like to save to your computer from your sd card
2. right click on the removable disk in my computer
3. click on "format"
4. in the little window that pops up chose "FAT" leave everything else alone
5. click start.
6. thats it!
damn its not working.
As soon as i click format it unmounts...any idea?
BTW thanks for the help

i've never tried it that way, but you will probably have to go the card reader option, or use...
GParted
windows disk management
but those tools give you the power to seriously mess up your computer. so i recommend running these on someone's computer you don't like.
or the card reader option
You can format the card under "SDCard and Phone storage"
Just unmount then format.
Okay well modchipper said he had the same problem, and the sd has to be formatted to FAT,not Fat32.
Gparted and the other tool, how can they mess up my computer?
The format option in the phone formats to FAT32...
If you're not careful you can accidentally nuke your hard drive, instead of your sdcard.
Well i tried windows disk management and it didnt see the drive. Gives me a feeling that gparted wont work either. does anyone know for fact that sdcard format has to be FAT?
Well once again I'm at my mom's, and her USB ports are screwed up, so I couldn't tel you what mine is formatted as.
Well i have multiple SDCards, but the one that is currently in my phone is formatted in FAT32 & I believe that was the one I used to root & flash the recovery originally...
Well this just seems impossible it seems ive hit a wall...
Im trying to use Fresh pre kitchen, but that wont work either because i have windows 7.
The Fresh Pre-kitchen works fine on Win7.
I have been at this for 16 odd hours and have overcome wifi probs, activation probs, chevvy issues.. done 3 flashes of wp7, radio updated.. all is grand now but the memory card issue!
Please, someone allow me to go to bed by explaining how I can format the card to show more than 200mb?!
I have taken the card out, formatted on my pc, reformatted with other tools, am stuck, and have spent the last hour searching through threads for info I had earlier but can no longer find! it doesnt help that any search containing "SD" is ignored as xda search sees it as too small a word.
Who wants some good Karma?
I really dont get why this topic is been creating/cloned etc on a regular basis??
Please use search function, this topic has been discussed many times.
Use some commen sense, dont look for "SD", use keywords like "WP7" and "200" or "200mb", "partition" etc. Or even reading the readme that came with the WP7 rom would be a good start
Why not help me instead of witholding what you know and making me forrage around one hell of a mess of a forum to find information I have been searching for since this afternoon????????
from the read me, and i quote "WARNING: WP7 will format the SD card during the first boot.
Two SD card partitions are created during cold boot.
First one is a 200Mb FAT partition and another one with unknown format which
is used as RAID with main memory."
That doesnt explain how to change the RAID partition into physical memory I can access from the device...

Here is what you need to do:
Make sure your SD card is in the phone
Do a factory reset by going to settings>About>Reset your phone.
After WP7 reboots, it will recognize your card and all the date.
You will have to re-enter your Activation code.

Thanks for the advice.
Is there any way this can be done outside of the device? I have heard that I can get an SD formatting tool but whatever one I downloaded did nothing to help.
I am reluctant to do the 4th hard reset of the day for this OS as a) there is talk of the auth code working only 3 times, and b) I have everything else working now and dont want to tempt fate!
Is it only a WP7 hard reset that will resolve this for me now?
:-(
Thanks in advance of your help my man!!
also, wont a hard reset undo all of the unlocking and such from chevvy?

Im pretty sure it will undo the unlocking, but it only takes a few minutes to go thru it again once you have everything downloaded.
Hard reset number 5 it is then!!
It didnt save my settings on the mem card, obviously as it wasnt in there in the first place during the previous hard reset.
Im becoming a master at hard resets and personalisation now!
that's not gonna help, , the first time it boots its gonna again make a 200meg partition and the rest create a raid.
download a partition program (there are loads, personally i have a ubuntu laptop and use that, you could also make an ubuntu live cd, boot to that and delete teh partition there.
through Ubuntu...
phone into magldr, usb mass storage, connect to Ubuntu, the 200meg filesystem icon will soon appear on the desktop, right click, format, instead of clicking ok click disk utility, select the 200 partition and click unmount then click delete, then select the unknown partition, and click delete.
if you are going back to android now would be a great time to set up an ext partition if you want one.
If you are sticking with wp7, then you can't format it to show more than 200meg, that's all that wp7 allocates to the fat partition, all the rest goes to system storage. Messing with the disk (even removing it whilst wp7 is running, i believe) will trash the data on the card and wp7 will reformat it.
If you are heading back to wm then create a fat32 partition the full size of the card.

Actually, it has done the trick, however now I am back to having a locked device again and cant deploy apps from my pc. Back to where I was 6 hours ago.
All I want is space to store more than 4 apps before the dang thing runs out of space.
Time to grab a beer me thinks.
