Sultan CM13 : How to optimize SoT and battery life - ONE General

Hi,
I'm reading a lot of thread in this forum and I tried a lot of advice but my problem is still here.
I have my opo since ~20 months and I have some troubles with my battery life. I use Greenify with package donation and Amplify. This helps me to keep some percentage of battery but I'm not satisfied of my SoT (I know SoT is not a good mesure). I can only reach 4h hours MAX on screen and an average of 3h30. Battery is discharge after ~9h30..
I'm playing Clash Royale and Clash of Clans for 1 hours, Google Chrome for 45min, Youtube 30 min, Textra 15 min and rest of time WunderList, myMail, Snapchat and PowerAmp for music. Swiper is draining app but this problem was here before I use this app.
I never use location, 5 min of bluetooth and on LTE all the time or sometimes WiFi. I try to be in Battery Saving Mode when I reach 50 %.
I use Better Battery Stats (but i don't know how to use it) and GsSam Battery Monitor (for more statistics)
Screenshots
I tried to change to Darkobas rom but camera was totally bugged and i dislike non cyanogenmod rom ..
I try to change change the kernel and finally this bricked my phone (lightning kernel). After a backup, I search an other kernel but I doesn't found an other kernel who could be compatible with Sultan CM13.
I'm really nervous with my battery and if anyone help me to reach 6 hours SOT, I can donate 5 euros with Paypal or more if it's worth..
Thanks for your help !
Edit : I flashed private kernel r15 on my device and use Kernel Adiutor to apply some change :
CPU max : 1190MHz
CPU Governor : smartmax
GPU max : 200MHz
And I was able to get 5 hours of SoT and 13 hours battery !
Thanks for help ! (especially for fafa77140 and Renosh)

Faulty battery maybe?

Would you like to post a list of your installed apps? The causes of most battery drain are mainly due to apps, signal strength and screen brightness.
If you want to reach 6 hours SOT, playing games won't help . Also, the more you stick to WiFi instead of LTE, the better your battery life. Use GSAM to check which apps are causing the highest battery drains and post your screen shot here?

I don't know if it can be checked with some software. The only thing I can tell you if you want to check if the battery is fauly is to buy another one and replace it.

Use greenify without Xposed. I got 6-7 hours of SOT with no problems. Running latest Sultan CM13. Even with no cpu underclock.

I'm at 20% brightness, sometimes more when sun is up !
I will try to use WiFi when I can
I've got the same drain battery when i'm not playing games
Do I need to manually copy all the applications ?
Thanks !

Thanks! Definitely large drain from Clash of Clans.
Probably lots of Wakelocks caused by other applications all well, which is causing drain during screen off. I suggest you uninstall apps you don't need that have push notifications. Or you can turn off push notifications for apps that don't need them

The biggest reason is mobile radio active (MRA) bug in all lollipop and marshmallow ROMs and I don't know why people are rushing behind **** LP and MM ROMs. MRA can only be resolved by Google, but it seems that it is not hampering the Google revenue, so Google have kept it as a low priority till now... very sad and shame too.

Try using PowerNap, I've had very good results using it

Try in KA --> CPU --> max 1497 ; min 300 ; gouv smartmax-eps ; sync 300 ; enter boost 1497
I/O --> row 1024kb
And if your kernel in your rom don't have it install Lightning kernel caf without coloros blobs and it should be right

Playing games for 1 hr or more a day will kill SOT. Try rooting with SuperSU and under clock GPU to 200 MHz using kernel auditor. It will help to increase battery life as GPU is very battery intensive, it won't affect COC or CR. If you want kernels you can try Private Kernel but its not necessary. Using mobile data also uses more battery than if you used Wi-Fi.

The ROM with most SOT for me was Marsh CM13: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/marsh-cm13.405700/
I was getting average 5 hours of SOT (other ROMs was about 3.5 - 4), on the stable 1.9.7 release: https://mega.nz/#!5xNhXQJB!4HwnbLANCmgno9DJJpxIbiBkL_tg19JSLtvNQrpeVjs
After 1.9.7, you need to flash Pico package of Open Google Apps, I've haven't used it since so I can't recommend.
Oh and if you run into troubles flashing the build, try Unofficial TWRP 2.8.6.0.6 by kumajaya: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952609056

[Battery Stats] JI6 Stock VS. Bionix Fusion 1.0 (Updated 10/29)

Background
I wanted to figure out a test I could conduct while keeping variables minimal. I figure a standby battery drain test would be as consistent as I could get by not using the phone or turning it on once during the test. Any other test would be too subjective depending on use.
Constants
In attempt to keep the different tests constant, I powered off the device, rebooted, removed all syncs, updates, emails etc. I made sure I charged the phone to 100% and left it on for 30 minutes after the 100% was charged to get the maximum amount possible. Removed usb cord, turned off screen, did not touch for approximately 10 hours.
Pre JI6 Results
I'm not sure if I should even have this here since I didn't do an official test for pre-JI6. Pre-JI6 update my standby battery drain was moderate. From memory it was approximately 1%-1.5% drain per hour while in standby. I used stock for about 3 months.

After flashing the default rom, I removed all applications I did not want, I removed all 3 DRM instances via Titanium Backup, and removed Media Hub. Also removed these via root explorer:
drmUa.apk
drmprovider.apk
SisoDrmProvider.apk
Final Results
1%-1.5% - Pre JI6 Standby Drain
4%+ - Post JI6 OTA Standby Drain
.3% - Post Bionix Fusion 1.0 Standby Drain
Conclusion
Out of the 3, Bionix Fusion 1.0 w/ JI2 Modem is by far the best for standby drain times. According to these small series of tests I can get 330+ hours in standby and possibly more under optimal conditions.
Post Conclusion
I am now passed my third day on a single charge. Granted I am not using the phone heavily, I am using it on a daily basis. I still have a 60%+ charge after 3 days of light use.
Media Hub + DRM
Looking at everyone's comments and tests it looks like the major culprit behind battery drain is Media Hub + DRM. Regardless of using a Stock ROM or a custom ROM people are universally reporting significant gains by removing all traces of Media Hub + DRM related instances.
Kubernetes said:
... As far as I can tell, all it affects is MediaHub. The DRM services constantly ping the CPU checking to see if you're stealing content, which kills your battery life.

Any lag issues? Does it lag while typing a message? Does the gps work any better? Does the Map work any better. Does voice recognition work any better as mine sucks. My G1 worked better at all of these then this phone does.
I really hate the stock phone and I am about to either install a rom or switch to a different phone. Maybe a Mytouch HD.

You said you removed all instances of DRM with Titanium.. I show 3 in mine, but I'm afraid to remove them lol.
I have:
Download Manager 2.1-Update 1
DRM Protected Content Package 2.1-Update 1
DRM Protected Content Package 2.1-Update 1
DRMContentLauncher 1.0
those are in my Titanium...
I've noticed that even with MH gone, after a reboot I kill oaDRM and DM Services, I get pretty good battery life..
I deleted those exact 3 a few days ago. Have not noticed any side effects yet other than significantly better battery life. But as always, delete at your own risk.

GPS and Map work significantly better with Bionix Fusion. It did not work well with JI6 OTA. 1 minute lock times down to 3 seconds.
Definitely give Bionix Fusion a shot before jumping ship. My phone is performing a lot better than stock. I've been using stock for a little over 3 months.

Not sure why you froze the download manager, nowhere did I mention messing with that one. Fortunately you didn't delete it
Only the 3 DRM's + Media Hub should be removed.
But at least we have a confirmation now to definitely not mess with the download manager.
Has anyone else who's disabled these DRM instances with Titanium become incapable of downloading anything via the market? I kind of expected I might, so I tried to back them up with Titanium, but unfortunately it's not letting me restore them (they're crossed out at the bottom; the only button that highlights is "delete", which I tried on one of them out of curiosity, and sure enough it deleted the backup. Oops.)
Before I go through the pain of reflashing the ROM [bionix fusion 1.1] I'd like to know if anyone else has this problem, and more importantly whether anybody has the .apk files for each of those four DRM instances (couldn't hurt trying) or other suggestions (delete more stuff? )
Thanks!
Disregard...
If you guys are having issues doing this with Titanium, there's also a neat little app called SDX System App remover. All it does is allow you to backup/delete/restore system apps. The DRM files are really easy to identify with this app.

Looks like the problem was that I accidentally deleted DownloadProvider.apk . If you do that the market FCs when you try to download. Easy fix by simply pushing the apk to the /system/apps folder (I figure out after way too much time trying to get the install command to work, in ADB, realizing my cmd.exe exe has to be in the tools folder for that (it doesn't need to for any other ADB command I tried - but otherwise it was searching the wrong directories for the apk) getting it to attempt to install right before throwing an error for an unsigned apk, which was another little joust altogether).
So if your market dies, get yourself DownloadProvider.apk from your ROM's .zip and push it to /system/apps . Simple solution

For those with terrible battery life:
Mobile data connection seems to drain on this rom very quickly. I disable mobile data manually or you can download green Power app and it'll take care of it for you.
From my experience, the rom considers whatever battery power you had when you flashed the rom as full. Force charge your battery. What I mean by this is plug your phone, power off, remove battery, wait for question mark, then reinsert battery. Let's say your phone had 50% battery left before you shut it down, the phone should charge another 50 right? Well if it is not in sync with the rom it will charge and additional percentage above the 50% you had left. What I do is continue charging until the percentage ceases to increase. One time I had 50 % left, but when I did a force charge it charged to like 72%!
Once the percentage stops increasing, remove battery, then wait for the question mark to show, the phone will say "where's my battery". Unplug phone, reinstall battery then plug it in. It should display 100%. Turn on your phone.
Sorry for any gramatical errors, wrote this information a hurry. Should I make a new thread with these instructions?

Hope it helps. Perform this one time. No need to go though these steps every time you charge your phone. Subsequent charges that result in 92% to 100% max displayed power is acceptable on this device because of an unknown problem.

Some more tips:
Disable Google Now if you do not need it.
Disable Google Backup service.
Disable fast dormancy apk.
Set wifi to sleep when screen is off.
Turn off mobile data if you are in a no 3G coverage area.
Playing high graphics games kill your battery fast.
Google Navigation can be used with screen off to save power.
Turn off gps when not in use.
Turn off wifi radio when not in use.
Turn off bluetooth when not needed.
I have a feeling undervolting and downclocking makes your phone unstable. I have no proof though.
I recommend you do not run any scripts like nitrocharger or supercharger. Again, based on experience.
To avoid the dreaded media scan drainage, try not to reboot unnecessarily. A lot of power is wasted during power up.
I do not use auto brightness in cm10. I turn on the option to slide your finger across the status bar and adjust as needed. I will re enable once levels are more consistent.
I believe the hotter the phone gets, the more power it will drain. Give it a break and let it cool down.
Don't swipe away previously used apps. Do this if you know those apps are battery hogs.
* These are MY recommendations. This is all based on experience. I will continue to add to this list based on feedback and/or experiences.
Here are some tests I performed:

And some more:

Far better than the previous test and also left CM7 in the dust. Google Maps, location services did not have an effect on battery life compared to the previous test.
The final test will be with this same setup but with Google Now enabled. I will wait a couple of days to perform this test because I have a busy week ahead of me.

Where is surface dithering, and what does it do? What do you lose by disabling it? Also, sorry but where do you turn off animations?

Surface dithering option states that it improves the quality of images. I rather have it off to avoid having yet another process running in the background. Turn off animations in developers options within settings.
I got some new results. Running epinter's ROM v25b. App usage was BakaReader, Apollo, a bit of Dolphin and xda app.
Settings:
- No underclocking
- All HW accleleration/zram/surface dithering/ settings off
- Some apps restored with TiBu, but not on this version (been just flashing this over older releases, no caches deleted between flashes)
- CPU Sleeper app running

Woow apex & default launcher keep crahsing, I'm gessing because of CPU Sleeper; everytime I go from launcher to whatever app => "unfortunately Launcher has stopped"
What's zram?

Enabling this will make the system busier because it has to compress data added to RAM.

If you can't find the source of the drain try a factory reset.
We went through so many threads like that, my man.
Do a search.
For the headup, assuming that you have already turned off Android location access, turned off Google location access, turned off auto-sync (I know you said you needed it but just for now, off it), turned off gps/mobile networks, do the following
a. disable Knock On/Off feature
b. disable CIQ (if you don't have CIQ, then ignore this step)
Note: do one by one and make an observation how the battery life behaves after each change.
Oh, btw, reboot the phone, say, right after unplugging the charge.

you should know better than to give stats.... standby hours and battery life is varied alot by user, ambient temperature and etc.
OP if you feel thats not right, flash another rom see if it help, I'm using energy rom, its good for me so far.
Try remove some bloat and apk with titanium... A regular user can often remove 100 apk from these roms! And use bootmanager and greenify! Greenify is must have!

Don't hope, fix now.
If I was you, I would backup all my important personal info on the phone and factory reset it.
I would do those tricks one by one w/o installing any app yet and see how the battery fares after each charge.
General speaking, we need to understand the root cause and find the solution from there, if it needs to be rooted to fix the problem then you root it otherwise, blindly rooting and assuming everything else will fix isn't the right way to debug.

*Guide* : Better battery life on htc one [Updated]

Just want to add on here for more battery saving tips
Guys I may have found an easy way to curb Google play services or any other spyware app to stop them from doing things like Access location or mobile networks which may further wreck yr battery life There are 2 guides here , Guide 1 (maybe redundant) and guide 2[updated] . if u think one of these guides works better than the other in yr bbs or gsam results, u want to use just only or a combination of both
App: Guide 1(maybe redundant)
LBE security master ( english translation is xposed module, so install that first)
Install and open the app
Go to permissions , Google play services all permissions , location and choose block or prompt
U can do this for WiFi and 3g too
I can also set all apps to prompt this way u know which apps want to access what when not opened . And deny them when they are running in the background . Also u will know if Some apps will access eg. Location when opened .. as o fnow i have made all apps to prompt mode so i can identify which app is running wild,. So far none
this part here may significantly save battery
first get this app : disable service
choose google play services and untick
analystics service
checkin service
NLPlocationreceiverservice
google location service
dispatching service
2) Then using app system tuner
go to google play services - receivers
checkin.checinservices$reciever
checkin.checkinservices$triggerreciever
checkin.checkinservices$tSecretCodeReceiver
checkin.eventlogservices$receiver
update.SystemUpdateService$SecretCodeReceiver
update.SystemUpdateService$Receiver
loginservice.migrateToAccountmanagerBroadcastRecei ver
*After this u wil only see GCM service runing in settings-apps -running
yr apps should work fine using battery saving location type
3) Disable Google syncing , u tick individual items in settings - accounts and sync - yr Google account
4) get greenify paid version
Tick wakeup timer colescaling in experimental features
Update:Guide 2 . this guide here may do all a of the above in a better way
1) install paid version Greenify and latest xposed
2) go to experimental setings and tick "reveal hidden sync"
3) go to phone settings , autosync, clik on yr google account and u will see new options with a *.Now can choose watever u want to be disabled
4) Also u can do the same for Facebook app or any other app with * entries . . U don't need Facebook acting independently . BlinkFeed will update for u the feeds
5) use Disable Service app from the Play store to disable:
Google Play Services
com.google.android.location.reporting.service.Repo rtingSyncService
(ReportingSyncService)
Google Services Framework
com.google.android.gsf.subscribedfeeds.SubscribedF eedsSyncAdapterService
(SubscribedFeedsSyncAdapterService)
here is the screenshot in phone settings for google and facebook example

well i think something else is drainign yr vbattery u need to check for kernel wakelocks and apps which have in built in ads constantly pulling data
anyway LBE security has option to block all ads in apps. look for that section and do that
and also in LBE security under 'location: main section put all apps to prompt and see which one is doing something when u never opened it

re-enable the google location manager service if something does not work. I think this service controls the settings- location where u choose the 3 different gps options

just realised that yours could be a batery calibration problem ( if on custom kernel )
what rom are u using and the version ? all i know is that some roms/ kernels have a battery bug reporting problem or they have not adjusted to the battery cycle. try to recalibrate the battery . u dnt have to full charge it and drain to zero, just drain to zero a few times around 3x . see how that goes .

Oh yeah i had the same doubt. .im running paranoid android 4.6 beta and stock kernel. .im doing the calibration now.thanks!Il do that and let you know
Well my battery drains 1.2% per hour when idle.. I'm running Google edition with elemental kernel.. Downclocked to 1.5 GHz and undervolted a little too.. WiFi is always on!
Btw the best I can achieve is 0.8% idle but that's on 1.2 GHz and it's not worth it, things feel kind of slow!
I haven't tested the suggested tweaks, maybe sometime.

Better battery life especially during standby or when screen is off
Hi Lewonsky!
Since you seem to know a lot about achieving a better battery life i thought i would take your help if you dont mind.i decided to try out the HTC extreme power saver mode last night since its supposed to disable all syncing of background data and save a lot of battery. And i'm not sure where the problem lies here but it seems to be even more worse with the extreme power saver mode turned on.It's lost 17% during the 8.5 hours i was asleep and for the entire time it was on extreme power saver mode only. .Ive even attached a screenshot below where it indicates that it was in deep sleep for 99% of that time. .taking this into consideration is it really supposed to lose so much battery overnight on extreme power saver mode?any help would be really appreciated thanks!Im on viperone 7.0.1 and stock kernel.I also tried draining my battery to 0% a couple of times as you advised me to calibrate battery. .If you have any other advice or suggestions on how to get a better battery life especially during standby or when screen is off it would be great. .i already am planning to follow that you have mentioned in a couple of threads of yours regarding this. .Thanks again for all the help!

I have noticed the extreme power saver is buggy in 4.4.3 Rom . At times it didn't turn off the data . So I have reverted to 4.4.2 5.11.661.8 Rom . This is the only version according to me in which extreme power saver node works correctly .
Try reflashing the firmware

sometiems rom and firmware xcombination may cause problems but very rarely unless there is a bug with the firmware released by HTC
the battery i think uneed to input some codes in the dialer it will shhow u battery health .
anyway not sure how reliable is that.
try to change roms and see if the battery still behaves that way.

I don't know. But try to use the firmware Intended for yr device like 6.13.707.1 . I just flashed it. Avoid the European firmware,, in my opinion it doesn't work well on Asian devices and causes a bit of battery drain.

I am optimistic about the development department of Zenfone, atleast they are working deep enough about their flagship. The battery drainage is an issue for almost every Android L(5.0) user. I hope this issue will be fixed after we get update for 5.1.1 .
Asus is also expending their QA inspection team this will help for the end user to have stable releases afterwards.
Thumbs up Asus for the efforts.
I just received my phone this morning. it's a CN model. I charged it to 100%. Played a bit with it at work when I had the chance. I've spent the rest of the evening setting it up. The latest update is sitting waiting for download but I won't take it until tomorrow. I want to see how it goes overnight.
Even given the short time I've had it I'm pretty sure the battery stats are simply misreported and the poor battery life that some people are experiencing are down to individual setups or faulty devices. I've done nothing yet to conserve battery other than turning off the stupid ASUS battery saver, deleting some Chinese bloat and setting Wi-Fi to switch off when screen is off. From what I can see battery is comparable to my G2 which I was very happy with. As you can see from the screen shots it's pretty good.

As you can see from the screen shots it's pretty good.View attachment 3365068View attachment 3365069

so does this mean your device is running on CN firmware? so maybe the biggest culprit for battery drain in WW is google playstore and other gapps, because CN firmware didnt preinstalled with gapps..

Trust me. The battery life is aweful and is not just down to user error. I've used many, many android devices set up using similar parameters. Wether android 5.0 is to blame or something else, it is not my user error causing my excessive battery drain.

seems they have given up on fixing the issue therefore just adding an alarm to recharge the battery... not good!

Um, what issue are you talking about and why are you jumping to conclusions? Don't jump to conclusions. You literally have no idea what ASUS' intent is and why would you complain when our phone has received an update every 2wks so far?

Um, even with Android OS battery usage at 21% and screen at 12%, according to batt stats screen, I still managed around 5.25hrs SoT.... With 32% battery left.
Granted this is just from last night to this morning and is mainly just Web browsing and playing some music (was up late couldn't sleep!). WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS/autosync on.I've frozen/disabled most pre-installed apps and services.
Glad to see updates with Google Voice, I've had some issues with outgoing calls not using voice.
I am not jumping to conclusions... Merely stating the obvious statement made by Asus... Secondly.. I believe in Asus and their commitment to this device .. But building up another wakelock is not the way to go IMO..

Yes, that's why I'm running with CN for a while. I don't have to have google apps as system apps. Once I have a setup I'm happy with I'll back up and test it for a while with them moved to system to see if there is any difference. I'll then switch to WW and compare that. (I'll also pick up my google drive offer at that stage.)
It has lost about 3% overnight so it's heading for about 6 - 7 hours SOT. I'm guessing that that will drop to about 5 hours in normal use given other people's reports.
I've already ruled out the android OS in battery stats as causing any real drain. I've encountered this before with a previous device. All the manufacturer did was adjust the way battery stats was reported. There was no underlying bug to fix.
I'm taking things slowly and methodically with setup so if I do run into any real battery issues I should be able to easily identify the culprit(s).
I'll take the OTA some time in the next day or so and see how it compares. I'll feed back in this thread but I guess the WW update will be out by then.

Everything you have said is exactly what I said even down to the G2 similarities. I see no issue with battery in comparison to other android phones.
