My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was returned to Samsung because it failed too boot. The same phone came back (same IMEI and Serial Number, marks on the case etc) with a clean install of software. However after failing to connect back to my network I realised my phone has a new wifi MAC address.
I understand the MAC address to be hardware encoded. Can anyone explain how/why it has changed?

Basically if I connect to a wireless network, nothing works. I send as far as I can tell it sends no packets after the DHCP request, but everything is fine using the cellular modem. So the problem is not with the device, but has something to do with wireless on it, now the device connects to the network and get a valid IP, but that's it, no software can connect anywhere at all. As far as I can tell no packets are ever sent on the wireless network, by the phone. (Aka ethereal shows nothing from the address in question). Now I have my device rooted and have better terminal emulator installed and have tried to ping, telnet, ssh and nslookup from the command line all seem to go no where.
Now before anyone says reset the phone, (that is not a valid option all the time), and I know it worked 2 days ago. I have not installed a new radio, ROM or kernel during that time, so its not an OS problem, my question is how does one trouble shoot such a problem on Android, where do I go for errors and logs? I did try rebooting the device without any change in connectivity
Note this same network(s), works for Windows and Linux on a laptop, so it can not be a network issue.
Thanks,
ERIC
I asked this in the D801 forum, but no responses. I guess I will try here as I assume the answer will probably be the same.
I am trying to get my D801 to work fully with my new car with GM's Intellilink system which seems to be white listing BT MAC addresses from what I can tell and I am trying to spoof my address so that it appears as a Galaxy S3 or S4. I think I have a MAC address from an older Samsung device, so if someone would like to provide the BT Address from their S3, S4, Note2 or Note3 that would be awesome. However that in and of itself is a moot point as I have tried to edit both the /data/misc/btaddr and /data/misc/bluedroid/bt_config.xml files and neither seem to hold/apply when I reboot. I have system mounted r/w and change the permissions to 755 before editing. I am running CM11 M6. Can anyone either suggest how I can spoof my BT address or any other ideas on how to get my phone to work with GM's system. I can get it to connect for phone only; no media, text or other.
I control at home the internet and wlan connetivity with the mac adress each user in my router.
The elephone s7 change everythin these mac adress when Phone new starting.
It is untypical and i not known.
I can't root to give a new or control the mac adress.
What can i do community?
Nice Christmas, Sören.
I noticed, there is no restart of the phone necessary. The MAC address changes everytime I switch of and on the wifi connection

I have fixed mine.
There was no MAC address programmed to the device at factory. That's an omission. So the WIFI driver when activated after restart or by turning wifi off/on notices that and gives a temporary MAC address.
That address changes in the last bytes.
The solution is to write a WIFI MAC address with an appropriate tool. I did use SN_Writer just be careful to leave the other data alone.
I guess the same happens with the Bluetooth address but did not check that out yet.

Can you make a post on how to do this with sn_writer and the files/links you used for the s7.
I doubt elephone will ever officially fix this, so a separate post will be great

Elephone won't fix that one I am sure. Maybe they will program a MAC in later badges.
Hello,
My Wifi tethering doesn't work ... when I'm putting on the wifi tethering, the other device connected on haven't Internet.
Could this Mac Adress be the problem ? or it's other one ?
Thx
I have the same problem at my place of work network. I have to keep adding different Mac addresses into the router.. I did log this bug with elephone, but surprise surprise nothing has been done to fix it
Wifi tethering works here. As for MAC address look at my post I linked before and follow that guide.
I wouldn't count on a official fix for already delivered phones. Maybe newer badges won't have the problem but as verified it is fixable.
Cheers
This works for me. Thanks a lot!

Since I had then flashed the firmware on my Asus Zenfone 3, my Wlan MAC address constantly changes with every new log-in.
Is there a solution for the problem or do I have to leave the MAC filter of my router permanently? ^^
I have already tried everything.
Installing new firmware has also brought no improvement.
I hope you could help me with the problem.
Sincerely,
Paul
sorry from Bad English.
No Idea, I can fix this?

You mean once you connect to the wifi, or before?
By default, modern smartphones randomize their MAC addresses when scanning for wifi APs. Once they attempt to connect they should reveal their real MAC addresses.
Hello,
Even before I connect.
It is enough if I turn off my Wlan and again on the phone. Without connecting to a Wlan network.
So .. i was Using Custom Rom of the S5e for Quiet a while.. but i noticed this.. Our Router is set that New Devices that where never in the Network before can't Login to WIFI.
So after a Rom Update.. the Tablet has no WIFI.. so we always have to Open The Router Back up to Enable All Devices.. Connect it again and Close The Router again.. then.. it works.. you have todo this always after an Update like.. the Tablet always assign's a New IP-Adress sort of.. witch Sadly made me go Back Stock what i usally don't want.
Want to use LuisRom or LineageOS instead.
I had the Issue a while ago with the: Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019)
And never with other Manufactures Devices.. is this a Known issue on Samsung Devices if you use a Custom Rom?
Is it maybe Fixable?
Could it be a combination of the randomised MAC setting being enabled on the tablet, and MAC filtering of some sort on the router?
If it has a random MAC address each time it connects, the yeah, the router will treat it as though it's a different device and assign a new IP address to it
I went from stock 10, to lineage 18.1, then to stock 11,and can't say that I saw anything like this happen.

If I am understanding your issue, it's because the tablet's MAC address is changing. This is normal and is done for security, but you can change it.
- This is not on by default, but double check it. Under developer options (you can search for "mac" in settings it will bring this up) "Wi-Fi-enhanced MAC randomization". Make sure this is off. Otherwise your MAC address will definitely be different every reboot.
- Next under Wi-Fi Mac address in About Tablet under each saved network there is a "Privacy" option, by default it is set to use randomized MAC, you can change this to use "Use Device MAC" for your home network. You'll likely find this fixes your issue.
Note these instructions are for Lineage, but they should be similar for other ROMs? At least get you started.
