encrypt/decrypt after marshmallow update? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can anyone share whether they see a decryption option after performing a full device encryption on Marshmallow?
I am talking about a whole device encrypt/decrypt within MM and Not just an sd card procedure...
if i update an unencrypted LL Note 4 to MM, can I then encrypt and later decrypt within MM itself?

Questions around Encryption (root, OTA, backups)

Hello,
I just ordered my first OnePlus and should receive it by the end of the month. Like all my previous (and quite old) phones, I would like to root it for several reasons and I found the native encryption needs to be disabled in order to be able to root the phone. Fair enough.
Since I never had to deal with encryption on my previous phones, I was wondering if you could tell me more about the consequences:
1) once the phone is rooted, can I enable the encryption again without hassles?
2) once rooted and (hopefully) encrypted, how will I have to update my phone? Flash the full OTA everytime (no partial updates allowed on rooted phones if I understood correctly)? Can I do this without disabling/re-enabling the encryption? After the full flash, will the data & cache be wiped or will it be hassle-free?
3) I generally use Titanium Backup to backup my apps (hence the need for root access) and copy the files on a network drive. Am I correct to assume that native encryption of the OP5 will not affect this process (either during backup or when the files are copied to the network drive (encrypted)?
Thanks for your help

First of all native encryption will still work when rooted. When you root using supersu or Magisk the encryption will stay. When you get your phone you first must boot to fastboot and unlock the bootloader. Doing so will erase data so do it as soon as you get the phone. Second you will need to flash TWRP. Wipe factory settings and flash Supersu or Magisk 13.3. I prefer Magisk. Once in setup you will need to put a password and fingerprint to get the encryption started. After that your all set. To update the rom just head to downloads.oneplus.net and download the correct rom for Oneplus 5 and flash it over TWRP then flash Magisk/Supersu after. I prefer using [ROM] xXx NoLimits 2.0 [OOS][OP5] ☆ Speed/RAM optimized ☆ because it uses stock oxygen os rom with better performance and battery life. Plus extra features like debloating. But other than that you will not lose encryption when rooting. Only when you want to install custom roms for right now like (LineageOS, RR, AOSP).

Downgrading to Marshmallow from Nougat

If we have installed TWRP,and we want to downgrade from Nougat to
Marshmallow, can we do that using TWRP and wipe, chace, data, internal memory,
system , factory reset and then with TWRP install the Marshmallow. ?.
I ask that becuse I saw another procedure with an update package.
Thank you

root and encrypt s7 edge 7.0 ??

Gone are the days where it was easy to root and even encrypt androids. Now with these locked boot loaders, not no downgrade its becoming a hassle. Thankfully, its becoming obsolete to root.
Ive been trying to root and encrypt an s7 edge but its near im possible always push one thing and another pops out. Iv tried various roms on nougat, tried a few when i was on MM but i flashed the BL and now downgrading is a hassle. The idiots even use solidrars so you cant modify the roms to use different sets of BL.
Ive not come across ANY s7 edge thats rooted and enrypted even on custom roms.
Its either become rooted with the risk of data in rong hands through flashing recovery, should it get stolen or no root but stay completely stock which is just as bad.
Anyone have a guide or anything that will make the s7e encrypted and rooted? I not bothered about not being able to flash throu twrp as lng as it cant decrypt it. even better if twrp could decrypt with password but thats probably asking too much lool !
I dont want to go on 8.0 yet, as it could flash BL and no more nougat.
Any one have a guide or anything thatl make it encrypted with root ?
This custom ROM is as close to stock as possible less the unnecessary bloat, with root AND has the ability to encrypt. There is an earlier version (5.4?) which is Nougat and the current version is Oreo. Make sure you follow the instructions and then you'll have an encrypted rooted phone running Nougat or even Oreo:
[ROM][G935F/FD][ALEXNDR] * U2ERF4 (Oreo) * DevBase v5.8 * Encryption support [Jul-03]

[Q&A] [Collection] Latest TWRP for Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 & Can TWRP Decrypt?

[Q&A] [Collection] Latest TWRP for Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 & Can TWRP Decrypt?
Hi there. If you still wonder that Can TWRP Decrypt Encrypted Data? The answer is YES. I will explain you why it's always FAIL.
Can TWRP Decrypt Data?First, you must understand HOW does TWRP Decrypt works.
Every month, Google will release new Security Patch for Android. Each version of Security Patch will have different (Minor) Encrypt algorithm. (change monthly. EG: July 4, July 19 will have same algorithm)
So, TWRP must have the same Security Patch as your current ROM on the phone to Decrypt Data Encrypted by that ROM.
What is my current security patch? On phone, go: Settings > About Phone, scroll down, you will see current security patch. If not, go: Settings > About Phone > Android Version.
Don't care about date of security patch, just care about month.
I'm just encrypt but not set any Password and TWRP keep asking to decrypt?Use "default_password" to decrypt.
What is the password to decrypt?Same as your lockscreen PIN/Password/Pattern.
I'm using PIN but TWRP always ask for Pattern. How to decrypt? In TWRP, go to Terminal. To decrypt, type in the terminal: "twrp decrypt <Password/PIN>" and tap Enter.
Note: <Password/PIN> is your lockscreen Password/PIN.
EG: My lockscreen PIN is 4294967296129009, I will type "twrp decrypt 4294967296129009" in the terminal and press enter.
Can I Backup my data when I forgot my Password to decrypt Data.?No.
What is SAR and non-SAR recovery?SAR: Makes System partition as Root.
non-SAR: Normal version, nothing changes.
Android 10 ROMs are SAR, some are non-SAR but can't use old tweaks that modify /System folder because it does not exist. Android 9 ROMs are non-SAR.
Use SAR recovery for SAR ROMs, non-SAR recovery for normal ROMs.
If anyone have question, just reply to the thread, I will answer as much as possible and put it in the second post.

If Android 10 Beta is SAR then it will not support old Magisk Modules using /system correct me if mistaken.
Also what about disabling the force encryption in Android 10. How to do it.

- Yes, you cannot use Magisk Module or any old mod that modifies /system because it doesn't exist. To disable encryption, just format Data Partition normally using TWRP. (Don't use rm -rf)
Thanks for the detail post.

Thank you .. so after each OTA update, I will need to format data each time if I do not want to use encryption?

Yes. But you can disable force encryption by magisk. Open Magisk Manager, expand Advanced Settings, untick Preserve force encryption and dm-verity. Now, you didn't need to do a clean install every update.

1. There are no TWRP to decrypt Android 10 now.
2. TWRP Decrypt is like explore an encrypted Data Partition, cannot fully decrypt it to unencrypted.
