There is a Firmware Update for the C.T.R.L.R Controller
[download section of the mad catz home page] (i'm not yet allowed to post urls)
My C.T.R.L.R was included when I bought my Mad Catz Mojo.
I found that Guide:
url (google for "Product Update Guide: XInput")
And a page about the Update:
url (google for "C.T.R.L.R with XInput Update – Ready to Game on PC")
(one guy in the comments says that the update is not possible for the C.T.R.L.R Controller that was packaged with the mojo - is that possible? - isn't it the same controller that is selled separately?
However, when I tried to install the new Firmware, I got the instruction from the software to push the "next title" + "last title" buttons for 3 seconds to bring the C.T.R.L.R Controller in a "firmware update mode" in order to continue the update procedure. Nothing happened when I pushed the buttons.
I have also installed the Driver and Software from the download page, but I was not able to perform the firmware update.
Was anyone able to install the firmware update?
There are many optimisations and fixes included in the update, therefore, it seems to be worthy.
I opened a ticket about this very problem with Mad Catz. Their responce was that we can't do a firmware update with the C.T.R.L.R. Controller that came with the Mojo. What a rip off!
This is actually crazy... i bought the mojo for £49.99 from amazon a few days ago... power it on.. controller wont connect so cant get past the setup language screen... make it all worse its set to goto sleep after 2mins so have to keep getting up to reinsert the power.... purchase a cheap usb keyboard to set it up... turn on bluetooth.. spend literally a day on google and on here trying to work out how to connect the controller, still wont connect... wont connect to my s4 neither... only my laptop. :/ i too found the firmware update and got stuck on the same place as you guys..... no wonder this has dropped so much in price.... im about to try tech support, spend one more day on it, then il be shipping it back to amazon...

That sucks, not even passing the language screen. But don't give up hope; try these few tricks:
1) Get new AAA batteries (I prefer using recheargeable ones)
2) if that doesn't work, remove the batteries and use your S4 charging cable to power the CTLR. There is tiny USB input behind the batteries.
3) swap the usb dongle bluetooth receiver between the 3.0 and 2.0 input slots on the MOJO
4) If the CTRLR just won't connect, try using either a USB mouse (either cable or wireless). I've been using a wireless mouse for the past couple months since I don't play games that much, it works flawlessly).
**Make sure you're not far from the MOJO when you're attempting these solutions.
If it works, make sure you update the MOJO firmware (205 something). Most issues with the stock CTRLR will stop after that. Also, if you continue using that CTRLR you can use the 2.0 slot and use the 3.0 input for your external HDD for example.
If none of these works, something might be wrong with your CTRLR. You could ask for a return or exhange.
But I will tell you, once this baby works, you will fall in love with it.
But honesty, I didn't really need the CTLR to be updated. For my purposes, it works just fine. Since I mostly watch videos on the MoJo, a simple wireless mouse does all the job for me.

cheers for the reply.. i tried the suggestions and it just keeps flashing blue and red ... ive given up on the CTRLR... now have it setup with a rii wireless keyboard and an old firestick remote that i connected via bluetooth.... i wont be playing games anyway, just wanted it for streaming upstairs....
That means it's just not connecting. Sorry about that. For streaming purposes, you should be fine with your current setup though.
Perhaps Mad Catz can replace your CTRLR, did you inquire?

Thank you for that important information. So I'm not able to update the firmware. I think there should be a note on the homepage about that. Hours of lifetime are lost because that information is not provided on the homepage.:crying:

The CTRL, is the best part of the MOJO :good:
I use it a lot on other BT4 devices, my phone, PC and mojo.
Try connecting on other devices, it could be the dongle that has a problem.
If there is an update, it would be for the retail version, but not sure what it would do.
ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/full/CTRLR_Range/
looks like it's just PC software
Bit of a shot in the dark here. I've got the retail version of the controller, updated firmware and though I've followed the calibration steps to a T - it's borked.
Triggers don't register at all, right stick is slowly panning up and left and there are random triggers of some of the hard buttons.
Has anyone successfully updated any version of this controller?
Edit:
Reflashed the fimrware and tried again. Working now. Not sure what went wrong, failed flash?

I had the same issue unitl I realized that I have another model number where I had to press the "<<" and ">>" buttons at the same time. After that, firmware update was working.
Ive tried the above and didnt work either has anyone ever got past this operation issue with the update. Ive connected the device with usb cable ok, I have a solid red light on the controller, presses both keys as instructions state and nothing progresses, the usb install was the last thing that actually worked.
Cant believe its so rubbish to get an update working - ridiculous
Cant find any profiles for this controller like MC 4, etc.
Any help on this device or is it dead in the water.

Hi did you guys figure out if there is anyway to update the controller that comes with MOJO model 32263? I cannot get it working with usb on my computer.
Mojo Pack-in C.T.R.LR. Update
Hi All,
Looking for same info on the pack-in controller that came with the Mojo. I put my Mojo away, I bought a shield a few years back and never looked back. I would like to use the controller (C.T.R.LR.) that came with the Mojo but I can not get it to pair with anything outside of the original Mojo. Has anyone been able to get the update to work, I ran into the same issues as other here, pressing the << and >> does nothing and I can not update the firmware. Would like to use the controller with my cellphone but it will not pair. Thoughts?
Thanks!

Morning.
Last week or so I've been trying to get my PS3 Dualshock 3 Sixaxis controller working with my Nexus 7 via the Micro USB port, and I'm about to give up completely.
I've googled enough to make my head spin, so this is pretty much my last hope for a solution. I've tried with 4.1.1, 4.1.2 & 4.2.2.
I've mailed the developers of the apps mentioned below, but have yet to recieve any response. This was done more than just 1-2 days ago.
I've tried with & without rooting.
The controller works fine when connecting it to my computer & Transformer Prime. It's been close to fully charged all the time.
The Gameklip cable & the OTG-cable works. I can access HDD's, flashdrives & even the SD-card on my PSP.
While using the OTG-cable, I've tried with different USB - Mini USB cables.
Sixaxis Controller using Bluetooth works fine, not a single problem there. I can also add my Nexus 7's MAC-address to the controller via the app without any trouble.
USB/BT Joystick Center 8 finds the controller, but refuses to accept any input from it. The same developer has released a joystick analyzer, and it recognizes the correct vendor & product ID of the controller.
The keylayout file exists & is correctly mapped in my usr/keylayout directory. I've also tried using the Transformers keylayout on the Nexus 7.
And here's the kicker, the spare Gamestop Xbox 360 controller I've got laying around works without a problem. Which almost led to me frisbeeing this ****ing thing out the window. And even though it works, it's not a viable alternative for me since it doesn't fit in the Gameklip.
At this point I'm up for crazy ideas, so any help, no matter how far out there, is appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read through this, and if you have any ideas that might help, thanks in advance!

Sorry for the thread resurrection here but I have searched high and low on the internet and this is the only thing that I find that comes close to the same exact problem I am having. The only difference is I have a galaxy s3 running cyanogenmod 10.2. Same issue on 10.1. I can get a wired 360 controller to work just fine and even a Wii classic controller with a USB adapter to work. No Dualshock 3 though. You ever able to fix this?
OK so out of the box this thing looks great, packaging included.
Setting it up was straight forward. HDMI to my 55" LG 240hz. Just had to dig out a spare cat5 and pop it in. Batteries in the CTRLR, dongle in the USB 2.0 port. Phone clip stashed for future use. Brought power to the MOJO and sparked it up, and just as I feared... uh.. wait.. actually it started up flawlessly, audio and video came over lovely with a beautiful smooth boot.
So far so good.
Next I used the CTRLR to perform the basic setup. TIP #1 (use mouse and keyboard for this). I didn't have an issue just took more time than it had too putting in a bunch of text via point and click. Even so, no problem to sync my google account and arrange the normal "phone" settings.
So far so good, and it doesn't even hiccup.
Apps and such, I need to navigate the new feeling of the mouse mode and android interface. TIP #2 (took a bit to understand how the left stick acts like the mouse and the A button acts like your finger pressing, so to swipe you press A then swipe stick! also when navigating screens use the right stick to scroll up and down as long as you have the curser over the section you want to scroll) I click on the MadCatz logo (claw marks), its the orientation app, follow it step by step. works like a dream, and thanks for adding that it gave me a great start. TIP #3 (follow all of the suggested actions in the slideshow). This will help you get basic apps that make the functionality of the MOJO start to feel like a workable system.
So far so good,
I want to test the sound and graphics, so I load up Dead Trigger 2 (you'll be able to DL it inside of the presentation) and man it looks sweet! I'm really impressed that this lil box can pump out those shaders and reflections at that resolution without straining.. I'm not a console FPS guy but have to say it looked great... TIP #4 (switch your CTRLR mode button from mouse mode to the right PC mode to be able to interact in Dead Trigger)
So far so good, but but but....
I want to get some apps, specifically apps that I bought the MOJO for as my media center (among other things). So you'll soon find you cannot DL most apps as the developers haven't added MOJO as a supported device, so you wont even have an option to try it out. This will not do as I am not going to wait for them to add support to get to enjoy this thing.
TIP #5 downloading and side loading apps till you can ROOT and modify the ro. to act like a supported device to fake out the app store (till they get off their ass and support this thing).
1. On your pc go to the android market and find the app you want, copy the address bar.
2. go to (im new to the forum so they wont let me show the url, but just look up APK-Downloader from evozi) paste the google play URL into the text box and click the "generate dl link" button.
3. It will save the app package as a .zip file, you will need to change the file extension from .zip to .apk and save it on a USB flash drive.
4. Pop the USB flash drive into the USB 3.0 port of your MOJO
5. Go to the security settings in the MOJO and uncheck the restriction on installing apps that are from unknown sources.
6. Open up ES File Manager app (if you followed TIP #3 this will be installed already) and find Local on the left, click that, then scroll down to USB, and click that.
7. Find the file you DL and saved as .apk and click it. It will install (everything I installed this way works perfectly, I can only speak from my experience but so far no duds, THOUGH I HAD A FAIL ON AN APP I DID NOT PURCHASE *still working on how to buy an app to gain access without being able to have that option to purchase on the market place, I think I will have to root and change my device description to a supported device but all of these steps are to avoid having to root for now*)
After this now I sit back and enjoy, I just wanted to help out anyone else that might be new to the MOJO.
So far so good, I have all the apps I bought the MOJO for and woohoo! Thanks for this MadCatz. I'm impressed. Now I just need to send some emails to the developers to update their apps.

Almost forgot! NVIDIA TEGRAZONE has tons of compatible apps/games for this thing that look awesome, for those of you were are waiting for content to consider the MOJO... it's here!

Hey my pleasure.
As I progress there are a few more things I have found.
I just purchased two keyboards to test out: (note: I would have tried out MADCATZ gamesmart stuff if they were available in store but it was an impulse decision)
I bought a HP Bluetooth keyboard K4000
Pros - only 29.99, no need for dongle with Bluetooth, super small, has power button so you can turn your MOJO off and on (never thought I would get excited about something like that but hey) and feels sturdy. Can also use the FN keys to turn off the MOJO and handle all the multimedia stuff, lovely.
Cons - Will need a mouse or separate touch pad, or will have to use the CTRLR in conjunction, not horrible but..
Also I picked up a Logitech Wireless All-In-One Keyboard tk820
Pros - It has a touch pad built in but not a ghetto one, it's real slick on the right side nice and big, stylish, heavy enough that when you have it on your lap and you use the touch pad it doesn't slide off. For most activities you wont need anything else since you can track with touch pad and type with keyboard. Can also use the FN keys to turn off the MOJO and handle all the multimedia stuff, lovely.
Cons - It is pricey at BestBuy 69.99. You will have to use up a USB slot for the dongle (Logitech unified devices). The touch pad doesn't work for the real interactive games, only the basic ones. Touch pad doesn't quit feel like you are working on the surface of a phone/screen.. would be cool.
Lastly I have plugged in several mice and all have worked well, but I tested my first straight BLUETOOTH mouse.
the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse t630
Connected and functions as designed.. very slim blue tooth no dongle needed.
For ****s n gigs I plugged in my Razer Nostromo, it appears to function fine. hmm need further testing.
Turns out the CTRLR needs the dongle for MOJO but not other BLUETOOTH devices... interesting.
Gonna keep them all for a bit and test em out further. Do not see a compatibility issue with any input devices as of yet.
What's apps did u side load?
@XexisKhan thanks again
RE keyboards, did all keys map correctly?
My BT mini keyboard with mouse touch pad works for alph-numeric keys but I notice the android virtual keyboard keeps coming up and I can't use the backspace nor enter keys, strange becuase it works fine in windows and linux.
My FN keys don't turn off my mojo lol

The issue there (from what I experienced) is that the on-screen keyboard is set to default. Set your BT keyboard as the default and you won't have the other pop up. As soon as you disconnect the BT, the on-screen goes back to default.

Thanks for the reply, I turned everything off in langauges but it still shows, not sure where to se the default keyboard.. my tablet running 4.0.4 has the same settings and does it automatically.
The keyboard mapping works just by escaping out of the virtual keyboard, so that's good enough for me
edit: @XexisKhan
Thanks, I'll look into External Keyboard Helper Pro.

Stock mojo works with BT2 (needing the USB dongle), CM12 newer BT Smart (no dongle required)
I have no idea what other gamepads use but if it's BT it will pair to mojo
I plan to buy Mojo these days, there is an offer in my country (Greece) for 89€
1. Anyone knows what's the latest official version of Mojo? I can't find anything on internet about that. Its still 4.2???
2. I will be able to run 1080p on Kodi without probs? I saw also an update that came out on June 2014 that promised 4k capabilities, is that also available?
3. Anyone knows if Football Manager 2016 Touch is supported for Mojo? It says that it run in Nvidia Shield, that i assume its the same thing, just to be sure.
I post here, as it seemed more related to start a new thread, if its not np i can start a new thread - ty in advance

Think so. Someone recently posted that they received word from the folks at Mad Catz stating they stopped working on the project. Never tried Kodi on it, but I know for a fact you can use 1080p.
Ended up selling my MOJO just a over month ago though. It had such a huge potential

I have sent also a ticket to Mad Catz with the same question, i will respond back when i will have news. But in the meantime, i can't understand why people abandon this device. It plays 1080p movies and 4K (so Kodi is used at its best here), and also you take a awesome controller which can be used with games in the tv. Ok not anything spectacular (we have pc for that) but some nice games at least. Also you take a traveler clip where you can have your smartphone on the controller and the specs of mojo itself, if there is a capable rom creator, let you have new version of Android in the future easily.
Its very sad that i see that very few people are using the device and making roms. I bought it for 70 euro and i believe its better than most rk media players out there.

Hey, you can plug a mouse but with the controller itself it has an integrated mouse "mode" that behave like a mouse so it's not so needed. If you please tell me exact what apps you are looking for, and i will test them later today to report back.

For me, the main problem is that 4.2.2 doesn't have so much compatibility with the apps in playstore. (even if i manage to spoof the device). It would be nice to have at least Lollipop

Nah, it doesn't support Amazon video, primary reason why I sold it.
Well, rumors first spread Mad Catz was bringing new update and support Android TV.... As of now, nothing!
The controller is great, hardware is great, no doubt about it. But the lack of future official updates makes it another unused sitting console next to the TV. If something happens, I will probably buy it again (and I made a profit selling it though!).

Hello,
My MK888 box worked smoothly only for two days. On third day I noticed that device is turned off. It can't boot up now. The PowerLED lights up for 5 seconds and it goes off. The video of this process You can see here: http://www.mediafire.com/watch/gcg1a43k9qceoem/CAM00200_compressed.mp4
Connecting OTG cable causes permanent glow PowerLED, until disconnected. I checked dmesg and it doesn't change when I connect device with OTG cable. Windows doesn't see it either. Connecting it with Recovery button pressed down doesn't help. It has stock rom without any modififcations. Only XBMC installed and some other apps.
Does anyone has any idea how to fix this?
I bought it here: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/TV-B...3188-2GB-RAM-8GB-ROM-CS918-AV/1392309954.html
The seller gave me link to some new firmware and no other info. Only "please download the firmware and install in your computer, and then connect the tv box to the computer, it will flash automatically ".

The seller gave me link to some new firmware and no other info. Only "please download the firmware and install in your computer, and then connect the tv box to the computer, it will flash automatically ".

Are you holding the reset button on the device when connecting to the PC?

Sounds like a hardware fault in all honesty.
Mine turns itself off immediately sometimes but not on a consistent basis.
I would tell the seller of the issues about it not detecting, I'd make sure your drivers are up to date though.
The drivers are not an issue as the dmesg (linux tool) shows nothing, like no device is connected. It should show something. I thought that there is some hack for this or possibility to connect with JTAG or something. I will send it back to the seller.

HELLO,
i have exactly the SAME problem as you described with my tv box (i think it is T-R42 because it has bluetooth)
Also i have the stock rom , and also i bought the tv box from an aliexpress seller
Normally i keep it in operation (was about a week i didn't turn off it)
yesterday morning i found it powered off,
and when i try to power on it pressing the button,
the button light stays on for a few seconds, then it (and the device) turns off
Yesterday night i connected the tv box to my pc via otg cable.
When connected to the pc via otg, the light stays on.
Connecting the usb cable to the pc, and pushing the reset button under the tv box, my pc detects rk31sdk device, then asks to install drivers for it
Choosing automatic search of drivers, my pc find drivers for 'MDB device' and istall them... and the process ends correctly
But after a few seconds, windows finds another time the 'new hardware', and asks to install drivers... and so on
(I dont know if in this phase i did some wrong action, this evening i will try to find and install the right drivers...)
Then i downloaded the software for my tv box, including the Rockchip updater (RKAndroidTool.exe) and latest custom rom from wasser (forum freaktab.com) :
http://www.freak-tab.de/wasser/firmware-wasser-1.2.4.zip
Then i lauched the RKAndroidTool:
the first time it didn't find the device, so i tried to disconnect the tv box, reconnect it and press the reset button under the tv box
In that way, the RKAndroidTool detected the device.
I Clicked Erase IDB, and seems it worked find, endings OK
Then i selected all the software : Loader, Parameter, Misc, Kernel, Boot, Recovery, System and clicked 'RUN'
The process started, i saw:
Testing device: OK
Flashing Ram... OK
So i was happy, i thought i solved my problem...
instead i solved nothing, the device still had the same behaviour as before (the same as you described)
So i repeated the process, selecting only one update at a time, (only the Boot , only the Recovery, only the System etc)
The process seems always to work ok, because it ends with OK
But the tv box didn't change behaviour, the same problem remain
I noticed that sometimes during the update process the message 'Found RKAndroid Loader Rock USB' changed to 'NOT FOUND',
so i had to retry pushing the reset button to make it be found
I dont know how RKTool works, i have the suspect that messages tells OK also if it do nothing ...
this evening i will retry, installing the right drivers...
You are a lucky guy. Mine wasn't even detected by my PC. After maaany approaches of powerON+RecoveryButton dmesg showed the new device only once with following issue: "BOS descriptor failed.". The seller told me to send it back for replace, but they will cover only one posting cost. It cost me extra $16

Hello,
i have still to test it,
but perhaps i got the solution for the problem:
a user from freaktab forum suggested me that the problem should be the power adapter:
he suggested me to buy a power adapter 5V , with 2A output minimum
I dont have such power adapter, if you have it, and you have not sent yet the tv box to the supplier, please check this solution and let me know!
Thanks
I saw this solution somewhere in the internet, but unfortunately I checked it with 2.5A adapter...it didn't help. I tested the standard adapter with multimeter and everything appeared to be fine. I already sent my device to the seller. I hope he will replace it.

i found this thread on freaktab
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....few-seconds-then-shuts-down-Bad-power-adapter
i will check if this solution will work with my tv box
In the case it doesn't work i think i will have also to send the tv box to the aliexpress seller...
but i dont know how to do it, and how much i have to pay
did you choose DHL shipment, or which other carrier?
I bought my t-r42 on october, now are passed 4 months... i dont know if i still can ask to the seller to replace it...
any suggestion?
Thanks!
I asked him through aliexpress:
Sign In -> My orders -> CHOOSE_YOUR_ORDER -> View Detail
at the bottom of this page I have some sort of chat feature.
DHL is out of the question! They take 20-40$. I sent it with Polish Post.

Ok thank you,
if the power adapter solution doesn't work i will try to contact the seller
To be honest, i am not very satisfied of this tv box, it didn't work very well
for example i used skype (connecting it to a logitech c270 webcam), and it didnt work well... very often skype crashed, and camera app also had problems...
Perhaps i will ask to the seller if i can buy another model and can get some discount returning my tv box to him...
quad core android tv box Q7
I trie to make update the fimware after 1minute re line and write fails,
i try again an the recovery an the device is not work..
help me please.
Same problem
Did anyone could fix this? I have the same problem, any firmware, even the supposed stock one, fix the problem, the device doesn't boot.
I don't know what happens, it can update the firmware every time I want....
RKbatchtool is better than RKAndroidtool.
connect the box to the PC via OTG but do not connect the power. hold the recovery button and then connect the power cable.
if this still fails then try Maskmode. bit more complex and i would recommend a good read over at freaktab.com first. have to open the box up and short the 8th and 9th Pin on the NAND chip.
similar to this http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1943-NEW-Unbrick-or-fix-NAND-on-the-MK808
and those with a Q7 box. dont use Wassers rom. it will load but bluetooth, wifi and ethernet wont work on it
Freaktab has roms for the q7
I had the same problem, I even brought device to my friend who work in repair shop and he don`t find any technical damage. Then one evening i was watching movie and all the time trying to connect it to pc and reset, and etc. then suddenly blue light start glowing and since then it is working very well, but my pc still dont recognize it

CS918S Start up problem
I had same start up problem with my new CS918S TV Box.
contacted Seller and she gave me link to some new firmware and no other info. Only "please download the firmware and install in your computer, and then connect the tv box to the computer, it will flash automatically ".
I downloaded all the upgrade software as mentioned but still not working.
I went to my friend's home who is also using the same TV Box. Tested my TV Box with my friend's HDMI Cable, Power Adapter one by one. Finally, finding out when using my Power Adapter for the 2 TV Boxes they had the same startup problem. But using my friend's power adapter, both are working . Communicated with seller shop: China SmartView Digital Co. Ltd. Aliexpress Store no: 808900. She asked me to mail back to the manufacture direct but she doesn't be responsible for any cost.
I order a new power adapter cable from other supplier at my own cost.
I have tried 3 different controllers with my phone so far and nothing works very well.
I have an ATT version of the Note3 running Android 4.3 on Baseband N900AUCUBNB4 - rooted of course.
I tried the Sony Ps3 Dualshock 3 controller with the Sixaxis app, and found the analog sticks worked great and the d-pad worked well in the main android windows, but as soon as I launched a game there was extremely bad lag on all buttons except for the 2 analog sticks. I'm talking a full second and up of delay before the system responds. I tried bluetooth and connecting to USB and it's the same.
I tried the xbox 360 controller with USB connection and tried to use it natively, but it has the exact issue that the Dualshock 3 had.
Fine, I figure maybe It's not meant to be and decided to try the Moga Pro Power which is actually made for android. On this controller, the buttons work great in the A mode, but the analog sticks have a gigantic deadzone in the middle! Not only that but the buttons all feel really weird. Not impressed one bit with this controller. Then I tried the B mode to see if the analog deadzone would go away. It stayed the same, but then the button lag appeared as it had on the PS3 and 360 controllers.
I'm at a loss here. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the stock ROM or what. I'm going to try a new ROM in the meantime but I find it rather odd that I can't find a single person having this issue via google or this forum...
Thoughts?
How do you connect them with phone I wana know ? I will try connecting my nephews xbox 360

a USB on the go cable
Well, after a few weeks of screwing around with the stock ROM and 3 controllers, I decided to try a new ROM. I flashed the firenote ROM and tried my xbox360 controller with the usb cable, and sure enough, it works fantasticly. Only one slight flaw- the green light that indicates which player the controller is pointing to just constantly flashes.
I would also like to say that I contacted Moga customer support a week ago and have not heard any response about the terrible analog sticks, so I returned that thing. A full week and not even a reply!
Update on this: it had nothing to do with the ROM. It's xposed additions module that screwed everything up.

The MOJO current isn't BT4 and the dongle isn't BT4 either.
I'm not 100% if the retail CTRLR (I have one too) is BT4, but works fine on BT2.
Turn on bluetooth on the MOJO, it will work

edit: I got the controller connected you need to be on my android 5.0 rom though. Hold the madcatz button until your device sees it and it should connect. Connected to my phone..... no need for the dongle anymore

Great work on the rom! Installed easily, and discovered my bluetooth keyboard right away, but the CTRLR doesn't appear as a bluetooth device {red and blue lights flashing}. I plug the dongle back in and it connects right away, but I would like to try usig it dongle-free.

You needed to hold back and start until it flashes pink that changes it from dongle to pairing mode. It's the same on the adt-1 that's how I figured it out.

You're a gentleman and a scholar; it worked. And I had even googled it.
The CTRLR has 'back' and 'start' buttons on either side of the central button that lights up when it is on. Press those two buttons until the central button turns on pink (or purple), That means it has forgotten its previous connection and can be paired again to another device.
