Why not just use Titanium Backup? Surely that's a much easier option.

That I can do but I need to access the blob files which are present inside the Android > data > game folder. That's why I asked..

This is confusing, you're replying under a different name now. Isn't this all a task that Titanium can achieve though?

[Q] Question about Nandroid Backup...

Hello guys, I have a question about the nandroid backup on Nexus 4
See I got my Nexus 4 the other day, and I flashed Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.2.0, then I made a nandroid backup. The recovery said this backup was stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. But when I return to my normal system I cannot find this folder(using root explorer). I can see that 1 or 2G space was used by something but I cannot find this folder no matter how, although this folder does exist. Later I found out that Rom Manager can get access to this folder. So is the recovery using a special way to hide this folder or what? Hope you guys can tell me something about this. Many thanks XD

Look in /data/media/Clockworkmod.
NOT the /sdcard/data, but in system root.
This recovery folder is only accessible by Clockwordmod when it is running. It cannot be displayed in file explorers for safety reasons, such as accidental deletion. But this folder can be accessed with a PC when your phone is connected to it, in order to take a backup of the folder. Hope this helps

Anyone else notice older versions of CWM backups were sometimes over 1gb and these new ones are only about 50mb?

Yes, that's a new feature that tries to combine the backups and only re-backup newly changed data
Forgive my ignorance guys, but if you wipe the data partition, do you lose your backups? I want to get this straight before I root my phone that will apparently never be shipped to me.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.

No you don't as the data partition is separate from the backup folder. But just to be sure, make a backup of your backup on your PC :cyclops:
Does TWRP also stores their back ups here too??

I think you can copy your data/media/clockworkmod to your SDcard(with root explorer or something like that), then plug the phone to your PC, move the clockworkmod folder to your PC. I did it this afternoon
how do i go about doing a nandroid backup? steps please
so nandroid backup? save the backup folder to PC, then i can flash a custom rom like matrix1, and how do i get back all my apps/folders again? just put back the backupfolder?
can i just connect to my PC and copy and paste ALL OF the nexus4 drive? is that backing up as well?

Is this directory stored on the internal storage? In other words, when I do a wipe to I flash a rom, would this directory be included in that wipe? I mean, it sounds like a stupid question. And I would expect it to be located in the internal storage, but I don't wanna do a wipe and install the rom and now I'm stuck without my backup.
what would be the quickest process to copy a nandroid backup from my nexus4 to a computer?
and when i wanted to paste it back onto my phone, how would i go about doing that to restore from it?

PLZ HELP!, cannot delete folders

I haves root and flash cm10.1 on my phone. but I have a folders called Android/obb which I want to delete. But I don't know why I cannot delete it. I have tried by deleting it in pc or es file manager, It won't help. After that I have tried to format my sdcard in recovery and reset the phone. But the folders Android/obb still presence. Plz help! how can I delete this folder?
I might be wrong but I think this folder is part of default android structure and it stores some kind of user app data. So by resetting your phone I don't think you can remove this folder as it's there by default. However try deleting the content instead if the folder can't be deleted.

Have you checked how much space is available in your settings after you formated? If you formated, you should get back all the previously occupied space.
Why do you want to delete that particular folder ?

[Guide/Contribute] Are you running the kitkat update? look here if you want to help

This thread only applies to people running the Kitkat update, so please only post here if you are and want to help contribute to xda.
I will give instructions below so you can pull you system and boot.img and upload it so i can make a flashable.zip for everyone
and possibly a custom rom.
its actually very easy to do, so don't be put off if you are new to this stuff (i made a script to do most of it for you)
1.)
Download this small "adb and fastboot" package > link , extract it to a folder on your desktop,
2.)
Turn on usb debugging from developer settings on phone,
if you have no developer settings, goto: settings/about phone
keep pressing on build number until it says you are a developer, press back and developer settings should be at the bottom.
3.)
From the folder you just extracted double click "DoubleClickMe.bat" look for a popup on your phone and press accept.
4.)
Wait while it does its thing, and when it finishes you will have the whole system dump in the folder on your desktop.
5.)
Now to get the boot.img you will need to be rooted, continue where the system dump finished
by copying & pasting each line of code into the box
Code:
adb shell
Press enter
Code:
su
Press enter, and make sure the display on your phone is turned on so you can accept the superuser request
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p31 of=/sdcard/boot.img
Press enter, the boot.img will be on your sdcard
bumping this for greater visibility
I got the whole system dump on my desktop already but I can not root my phone
If you can get clockworkmod Recovery to boot (or installed), you can root this way:
Put attached file on internal storage.
Boot into Recovery (CWM)
install zip > choose zip from /sdcard
Please upload system dump to solidfiles.com or uploadhosting.co

no personal information is in the system partition, not even sure where the IMEI is stored but its definitely not the system,
think it has its own hidden partition with the serial number etc.
Thank you for your efforts.
As for the IMEI, it's not stored in the system per se, its in your efs folder, which is a system folder in the internal partition. I could be wrong, but flashing usually clears the contents in the efs folder, so it shouldn't be an issue.

AFAIK, EFS is Samsung specific.....??
http://rescueroot.com/android/how-to-back-up-efs-on-samsung-devices/
What is an “EFS”?
EFS refer to a folder location called /EFS in Samsung’s Android devices. It is a very sensitive folder hidden within the deepest core of your smartphone’s internal file system and is very essential to the functions of our smartphones.
One of the very sensitive information you can find in this folder is the information regarding your phone’s unique IMEI number. As you may have guessed by now, it also contains other unique identifying numbers for your smartphone including the MAC address for your smartphone’s radios, as well as the MEID, ESN, as wells as the registered phone number for locked smartphones.

You're correct. My last device was an SIII, hence my ignorance in assuming it was a universal thing. Sorry for the confusion.
The point should still stand though, IMEI is not part of the image.

[Request] whatsapp("installable in sdcard")

Hello guys,
I've tried many times to decompile whatsapp and edit it's Androidmanifest.xml file to make it installble in sdcard..When i try to recompile the apk i'm getting a message "Killed" I've tried it around 15times still no Luck..Can anyone decompile it and edit its manifest file then recompile and Upload it :-/
please it's a kind request :'(
you cannot force an apk to install on sd card
you can request it to install on sd card by using the following but chances are it will still be installed on internal but it will become movable to sd card in manage applications in phone settings
Code:
android:installLocation="preferExternal"
so it looks like this in the manifest
Code:
<manifest android:versionCode="48398" android:versionName="2.11.186" android:installLocation="preferExternal"
package="com.whatsapp"
dont forget you need to use jellybean framework-res.apk in order to decompile and recompile 3rd party apps
also looking at whatsapp I think its already moveable to sd card by opening it up in manage applications in phone settings and selecting move to sd card
If that option is not there add the above to the manifest - it will still install on sd card but it will be moveable
Dont forget to sign the apk with a testkey and you wont be able to update the app via the playstore if you resign it
also as note - never move a widget to sd card using this method - it will break the widget

either its an error in installing apktool or if it can decompile and recompile other apks fine its not able to do that apk for some reason
but have you tried just opening up phone settings and going to applications manage applications and selecting whatsapp and moving it to sd card
you only need to edit things if the option move to sd card is not available
if its not available I can upload the one I moddded but if the offical one can be moved stick to that else you wont be able to update the app via the playstore
You can also use link2sd to link apps to virtual sd card storeage
