Keep losing cell connection after OTA v6.0 update - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use my turbo2 on tmobile. Never had any problems. I've had it for >6 months. After 6.0 OTA update every couple hours I lose cell signal. It still shows bars but I don't receive calls and if I go to make a call it says cell network not available and then the bars go all grey like i have no signal. I have to reboot or pop the SIM out and back in.
Tmobile had me set up APN, and swapped to a brand new SIM, but it's still happening. They are at a bit of a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

Reflashing radio may help. You can wipe some related partitions but I'm not sure which and do not wipe randomly!

Had the same issue. I gave my dad a droid turbo 2 from Verizon (got it from my company) to use with his T-Mobile sim. Ended up having to get him a new one that was still on lollipop. Now it keeps getting the update notifications and even though I disabled all VZW stuff and turned off notifications from the Moto stuff I still get the full screen update notification all the time.

I did a full factory reset and it still happened. Motorola is sending me a new phone... @tgtoys... are you thinking that it just won't work with Marshmallow at all? I was thinking it was maybe just a hardware failure...

Just "Force Stop" Motorola Update Services. You won't see the notification anymore. But if you turn off your phone you need to do it again. Works for me!

You might check out this thread I just posted as well. Not sure if it's the cause of your issues, but worth a shot.

@xlow and itbedave.... does that mean you guys also experienced problems with cell connection on marshmallow?

I have same problem with the 6.0 update. I hope someone can find a solution.

@itbedave as far as I remember almost every single "update" screwed things up. I like it the way it. Why to fix if it ain't broken. Besides still waiting for root. Perhaps once you update you might be SOFL.

I've had no cell signal issues or dropped calls on Marshmallow, ever.

Do you use it with a T-Mobile SIM card?

I haven't had problems with calls on marshmallow, i use it out of the US tho.

Any of you tried to re-flash radio?

Reporting the same issues here, seems to happen when moving from cell data to a remembered wifi source.....odd

Same thing happened to mine. Go to settings> advance calling> turn off HD voice. For some reason if it can't keep HD voice quality droid turbo thinks it's better to just drop the call. Now I never drop calls

Trying this

my droid turbo 2 imei is 0... I've tried reflashing the firmware using rsd lite and fastboot...is there any way to recover it??

Its a WiFi bug. I have WiFi turned off and haven't had signal drop. It would get annoying because i wouldn't notice till i pull out my phone and see that it says Emergency Calls Only, so a reboot was needed.

friends
if signal is lost
via ADB and fastboot:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot reboot
try).

3g disconnects randomly GB .588

I am running .588 and I restored my data after coming from the original gb (.573) leak. I loose my 3g connection at least once a day. Sometime when I toggle the airplane mode it works and I connect back to 3g, but i that does not work I just reboot the phone. Anyone else having this issue? We need feedback to see if its a hardware or software issue in gb. The reason I cannot confirm if it is s/w or h/w issue I received a replacement phone when the .588 came out. I cannot compare both builds with same device. I am going to revert to .573 to see if it continues. I will post back with outcome.
Thanks in advance

I have had this issue also. The toggling of airplane mode usually works for me too. Although yesterday it didn't and I had to reboot the phone.

The airplane mode does not work for me. Someone recommended to use an app called signal refresh. My main concern is if its a s/w of h/w.

I have this problem, as well. I used the Monster SBF to get to .340, installed GB, and restored only user apps with Titatium Backup. Airplane mode works for me sometimes. Every now and then my phone will go into airplane mode and lock up, forcing me to do a battery pull...
I was on the old gb leak and restored data in clockwork after moving to the new gb. I haven't had the problem yet today. (Knock on wood)

I'm seeing the 3G drop as well. Of course i only notice it since i'm tethering my wifi xoom to the droid (method irrelevant). Airplane mode works for me.
Mine drops out and stays out all the damn time. Sometimes airplane toggling is enough, sometimes I have to re-boot the phone and then toggle airplane mode and other times just turning WiFi off works well enough. It happens on my Wife's D2 constantly as well. We've missed plenty of calls (google voice pops up letting me know I have messages from missed calls even though the phone didn't ring and we have big problems texting throughout the day).
We're both going back to Liberty right now cuz this is BS. Hopefully this will get fleshed out for the final OTA and I can see why Verizon hasn't approved either leak yet. And even more hopefully it's not the new radio, and if it is hopefully SBF-ing back to 340 will fix it. If it doesn't, do any of the older SBF's work with the 340/588 bootloaders and also contain older radio firmware?

Update:
re-flashed GB. went two days with no signal problems, but this morning I lost my 3g connection. I have a feeling that it has to do with the hand-off between the wifi and 3g connection. I have tried to duplicate the issue but I cannot duplicate it. Also one thing I notice is when my 3g is not working and only shows the 4 grey bars I cannot make outgoing calls but calls do come in. Weird....

Yep, it's all over. Despite what some may claim, the leaked GB(claimed OTA) is not without bugs.

[Q] 4.2.2 update-can't make calls

Hi All,
I'm currently using Straight Talk with ATT SIM. Everything was working fine. I updated the software to 4.2.2 on Sunday. It didn't come OTA so I updated by going to Google Services Framework, clear data, then force stop. After a reboot, the OTA 4.2.2. showed up and I updated then.
Now, I am realizing that I cannot make or receive calls at all. Phone shows signal strength at 100% (4 bars) but when dialing, it does not go through, just silence, then a beep, then ends call.
I have tried rebooting phones, pulling SIM card out and replacing (twice) all with no luck.
HELP!!
Edit: I just realized I don't have internet connection either.

Ah...found it.

I was on the same situation a couple days ago. after flashing 4.2.2, I can still make a call, people can still call me, but no sound from either me or them. The micros work fine (you can check by Voice Search).
At that time, after I ended messing everything up, I restocked the phone to 4.2.1. Everything worked fine after then. I dont know why this happens. You may wait for another solution. Just let you know that a restock can fix it, so dont worry. However I dont encounrage it becuase it wipes your phone completly.

Same issue after 4.2.2 update
I'm having the exact same issue with my Nexus 4. Let me elaborate. I've had my Nexus 4 since the initial sale, today I got the OTA update sent via Tmobile. My phone seemed to work fine afterwards until I tried to answer a call. Upon attempting to answer or make a call (even with full service) the bars instantly drop to zero (hollow triangle) and an out-of-area tone & message display.
Restarted, pulled sim, sim worked fine in other phone, checked & rechecked APN/other settings, had Tmobile "reset" my device on network, finally wiped my device. I still can not make or receive phone calls. The radio seems to just disconnect when attempting to.
Spoke with Tmobile customer support (worthless), Tech Care (Very helpful & knowledgeable but no fix), Google Nexus support (Offered to replace device! However can't have any cosmetic damage). LG also contacted but zero assistance given.
I'm stumped, it seems to me that this issue might be related to the update disabling the LTE radio, because data & everything else works except for making calls. Like I said, Google offered to replace the device however I did (in good faith) advise them of a hairline crack on the back of the device, like many other N4 owners have had, not from a drop. Upon hearing of cosmetic damage they said that it's no longer their liability. I'm very disappointed but I understand.
Since the warranty is void from the crack, I'm going to root & play around.
Any questions or advice?

Also, I'm on the same radio (Baseband?) as OP.

I'm curious to see if rooting will solve this issue. If yes, I will go this route.
Keep me posted. So frustrated.
Thanks johnmedic.

[Q] N4 loses ability to receive calls or SMS, data continues to work fine

Hey guys,
Just want to see if anyone else has noticed an issue that has happened to me a couple times. My n4 "loses" its network connection for both received calls and sms.
Status bars indicate a good signal (no hollow triangle) and data works fine during these events. I first noticed when my neighbor came by telling me he sent me a couple messages which I never received although I had been playing with the phone all day.
After rebooting I received many sms and voicemail message indications.
The scary part is there is no way to know when it's happening. There is no indication of lost signal and data service continues to works fine - all calls just go straight to VM and no SMS or VM notifications are delivered.
Any ideas? should I return/exchange it? Thanks for any help.
here's me:
network is Tmo (happened in 2 different cities)
network status bars indicate good signal
data service continues to work ok (3g/4g)
stock, not rooted, phone is only 3 weeks old
still on 4.2.1
I've had this happen to me once don't know why though.

At first I suspected the light flow app because this happened right after installing the app. I thought maybe the app was messing with the notifications so I uninstalled it - but then problem happened again. Also, many people are using the app with no issues so i suspect my phones radio is at fault.
I think I'll RMA it. Thanks!
Crap, i just left Sprint after 11 years of service with them for the exact same reason. Started mid December and by mid Jan and several Network Trouble tickets they had no clue how to fix it and blamed it on network congestion. End of Jan i officially ported to TMO.. Hope this doesnt happen to me again..
I started a thread with similar problems, but I also loose data connection. I get a message on the notification bar about it.
In my case it only happens if I turn wifi on and leave HSPA running, so I have to switch to 2g only for the problem to disappear.
Called Tmobile and they have no clue what is causing the problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've used tmo for years and never had this problem before - only with the nexus 4 the last couple weeks. If this type of issue was more wide spread I think there would be more people complaining about missed calls/txt.
It sure makes me paranoid though. I am now calling my phone a couple times per day (from my work phone) and sending myself SMS messages just to be sure my phone is working.
I just updated to 4.2.2 so maybe that will help. If it happens again I'll exchange it.

What type of notification do you get? In my case there is no notificaion, the only way to tell if its happening is to place a test call or sms from another phone.
I do notice it occurs after heavy HSPA use but I havent been able to duplicate the problem. It's almost as if after heavy use of an HSPA channel the MSC location update is purged - so all calls go straight to voice mail and sms messages are queded in the SMSC (just a guess). Then after flight mode toggle or reboot location update occurs and all is good.
It happened again yesterday so I've gone ahead an ordered a replacement.
I get a triangle notice in the notification bar. And I narrow my problem with my location.
Did you ordered a new phone?

Which baseband are you on?
I was on the latest 4.2.2 update with the old .33 baseband and I couldn't make or receive calls. To be more specific, my phone was mute as the call was going through. I could not hear the ringing tone. So I flashed the new .48 baseband and it worked.
Well, what I experience sometimes is:
When I leave a WiFi connection, the phone (sometimes) wouldn't reconnect to mobile data (I can only receive calls atm). In order to reconnect it, I have to toggle airplane mode.
Kinda the opposite, but maybe the same solution can be proposed?
My temp solution is to switch to 2g only and turn on wifi. That seems to do the trick
As for baseband I'm rooted with stock rom 4.2.2 and CMW recovery

Factory t-mobile S7e losing mobile network connectivity

so this is the second S7e and second SIM that I have been having this issue with. The phone will lose connection to the mobile network and the ONLY way to recover is to reboot phone. Reset Network Settings doesn't do anything. Toggle airplane mode doesn't do anything. Search for Network Operators doesn't do anything. Are you guys always in the same location when this is happening or is it just whenever and wherever? Or is it happening a one certain place where cell signal isn't that great? I had this same issue BUT only in my house so I had to get a network range extender from t-mobile to use at home.
This happens to me all the time. It's so annoying. At work, in the car, at home--it doesn't matter where I am. Have reset firmware multiple times and even rolled back once too. I think it has to do with the latest software because I never had this issue before the Fall/Winter. Hopefully Nougat fixes this!

I would try flashing different radios/modems, its worth a shot. Maybe try flashing the "U" firmware radios.
Nougat will fix it
My wife and I had the same issue on our tmobile s7 edge ... we got the 7.0 beta and now the issue is gone .... I bet it's radio and software related ... 7.0 will be out by the end of the month hope that helps...
I had this issue with my phone, and it was a huge pain. The biggest concern: I didn't know when my phone was off network (voice, data, etc.). The fix, for me, was simple: a new SIM card.
You may have an issue from a rejected permission on an app.
Had the same issue before but I did a hard reset and realised that I changed permissions on an app that wasn't written for 6.1.

My and my friend's phones are both running pure 100% OEM Tmo stock without any apps disabled or touched at all and we have this issue and have done multiple resets. Pretty sure it's an actual hardware defect, or hopefully just a software one with the modem/radio.

I received a refurb. Other than this problem, the phone is alright. I noticed this problem on receiving the phone it was running on T firmware. Then I switched to U firmware and radio but no difference. I called customer support yesterday, they said to go to a retail store to get the phone replaced. My worry is going through this process again and if I receive a bad device again what to do? After all refurb phones are like playing Russian roulette!

I just had this start happening on mine... I really wish they would release nougat already. It is ridiculous they won't post an Odin flashable version of the release candidate if it does indeed fix the issue.
I also think its a specific tower configuration that is causing the issue that the radio can not understand. (Maybe 3xCA). Its happening in the same areas every time.
I just started having this problem in the past month. All at once I've been getting BT sometimes turning off, mobile networks failing to reconnect after I visit a no/low signal area (such as after a plane trip when the phone was in airplane mode). I've also seen wifi mode fight my attempts to turn it back on sometimes - toggling itself on and off a couple of times per second until I poke at enough settings to stop it. When BT turns itself off I have trouble turning it back on, sometimes it just goes back on, sometimes it refuses after a number of tries and if I wait an hour it goes back on just fine.
The folks at a BB Samsung kiosk said they could reflash it if I wanted to go that route, but that the nougat release would be out soon so it might be better to just wait for that. Has anyone had a Samsung rep re-image their phone to try to solve this?

I guess I wasn't clear about that as I have several problems that are probably related, but behave a little differently.
BT dropping - can usually turn it back on, but sometimes it refuses. Usually don't need to reboot to fix this.
Wifi dropping - often have trouble turning it back on and have seen the widget toggle off and on repeatedly by itself. Sometimes have to reboot to fix that.
Mobile Network data (and voice sometimes) dropping - usually have to reboot. I think I may have recovered that once without a reboot, but the other few times it's happened in the past month since it started I have rebooted and that fixed it in all but one of the reboots - one time I rebooted and still had to fiddle with it a bit after the reboot before it came back. That may have been because I played too much with the network settings before the reboot and so had to undo that damage after the reboot. But, definitely rebooting is a fairly reliable step in fixing this problem.
All 3 started happening around the same time which is why I thought it was a software issue (I remember a small update a little over a month ago, but forget the details of it). It's nice to hear that others also have the mobile network problem, but if that is isolated in those cases then maybe I'm not seeing exactly the same problem. But, it is clear that rebooting is almost always required to get my mobile network data back so that again suggests that at least that part is the same as what this thread is discussing.
In looking at the T-Mobile updates page for the S7 Edge I see that the version I have (G935TUVU4APK1) was updated in early November - which tracks when I started having problems, and it includes a fix for "Domestic data roaming improvements", which definitely sounds like they may have played with the radios.
I am so ready for the Nougat update...

Android Oreo - "Mobile Data Has Run Out", but I still have lots of internet quota.

whenever you're on cell connection, and lost signal. when the signal got strong again, there's notification from mobile carrier "Mobile data has run out", "Tap to visit *operator* website"
you could fix this by activating and deactivating airplane mode. It's so annoying.
Does anyone experiencing this?

Not ever. Which carrier/MVNO? Maybe it's time to get a new carrier/plan.
Yes, I've been having that message ever since the first boot after updating to Android O about three days ago. Toggling airplane mode on and off fixes the issue for about couple of hours. Battery also drains like crazy.
Now, today is the first time I'm out of the house away from wifi all day and I haven't get the message again. I'm back on wifi for about two hours now and all is well. Battery also seems to be back to normal. Hope it stays that way.

Well, if the cell signal is strong that doesn't seem to happen. But if you're on weak signal where you could lose receptions, then that happened.

@Rollies77 Telkomsel, Pak! My driver used XL and always had problems. Don't know how you upgraded, but you could try downgrading your radio. Just fastboot flash the previous modem.img. (v3.81). Current version is 3.84. The radio is independent of the ROM version so it will work no problems. The older radio from Nougat may get your service back.

Yup, XL Axiata. Just happened again. Gonna try downgrading the radio. Thanks.
Edit: No luck. Flashed 03.81 radio, reboot and greeted by "mobile data has run out" message.
I upgraded to stock OPR6 from Google's factory image. Clean flashed. Happened on first boot before rooted. But yeah probably XL is acting up.

I'm on full stock, not rooted. So i don't think i can flash the radio.
So it's the XL's fault. I don't want to change my number, and i'm staying away from Telkomsel, their call center is the worst, also in my work place and home their signal is not very good.
Anyone not using XL experiencing this?

Correct, can't flash the modem partition with a locked bootloader. You could stop by any kiosk and pickup a simPATI and you'll quickly know the answer for very little money, but I tend to agree with you that XL is probably the culprit, and loading 8.0 was coincidental. I always had good service with Telkomsel, and was impressed by the service at their graPARIs, especially at Pondok Indah. There are also some settings to experiment with under Dev Options (don't have to be rooted). One is "Agressive Wi-Fi to mobile handover" and the other is "Mobile data always active". Toggle those and see what happens. Good luck. :good: @Rollies77

Will try that on the Dev Options. Especially the "Mobile Data Always Active"
It's not graPARI's services that are bad, but their unified call center (147), My friends are experiencing bad service from call center (angry at customers, blaming customers for the problems even though the customer actually an IT guy), The product is Telkom Speedy, not their Mobile products. But they are still using the same 147 Call Center right?
google knows about this bug - have for a while, taking their sweet time to roll it out in the november security update.
I just upgraded to Oreo today (Project Fi 6p) and it completely cuts off my XL data in Bali.
Good job google.
There is a message at the end of this thread that suggests removing an app to fix it... I guess I'm going to give it a whirl.
