Rooting Question - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Is root process on the Sprint HTC 10 progressed enough to still flash it back to returnable stock? I have a galaxy s5 and am thinking of getting a 10. I guess I am asking if you lose anything warranty and OTA related if we root it now?

You need to be s-off and use a faux hboot that says locked instead of relocked so they won't be able to tell it has been tampered with (your warranty is void, answering your question from the bad boys thread). Check the international 10 forums for any hboots. And search for sunshine to s-off. If not, you can return it if the rep doesn't know what they're doing and you get lucky

Perm root and unroot, warranty questions.

I'm currently using the temp root solution through visionary with the assumption that if something arose that I would want to use tmobiles insurance thing to warranty my phone in the event something happened, I could just remove all traces of it as to not encounter a warranty issue. My question with the now perm root, is there anything available to unroot the device, essentially returning it to stock so there wouldn't be an issue? I don't have a problem with it voiding the warranty/insurance once its perm rooted if there is no way to return it to stock, I'll just cancel my monthly insurance charge if that's the case.

There was a post earlier today saying that all you have to do is flash it back to stock. It even had instructions. Having said that you shouldn't worry about perm root interfering with your warranty.

I spoke with T-Mo Android support today and was told that rooting voids the mfc. warranty, but that reverting back to stock should yield no issues.
i had the same questions after i perm rooted.. glad to know the answer

root help

my wifes g2 broke so i got a new one, whats the best way to root now? its up to date on updates?
You can use the guide here.
Or if that's too much of a read: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
(PS: You're most likely going to be using the G2 Gingerbread unlock since I doubt a new one came with Froyo).
Read through that didn't know if there was different way because of the unlocked bootloader from htc

Thats true and when u use HTC Unlock u lose garanty.
You may simply follow the xda-wiki. I rooted my desire z (2.3.3) this July 12th (though it was bought in April, 2011). I don't think htc is intelligent enough to unlock the bootloader in the first place. They still want people to come and ask them for unlocking and then loose warranty. And the warning they have written on the page, my God!. I almost fainted reading their warning.
I don't know but if the bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to boot a custom rom directly by putting it in your sd card (I'm a NOOB so Devs please confirm this).
I was going o use their method but then I read about its futility and decided to go the hard way:laugh:
if you use the offical htc unlocked bootloader you loose your warranty right then, you have to go through many annoying steps to change roms, and being you don't have true s-off it you will be locked out of loads of other stuff
just root and give yourself an engineering hboot with true soff and you will be much happier, if you have a warranty and something goes wrong you can always go back to stock and send it in without their knowledge of ever being rooted

What's going to break?

I want to root my M but don't like the idea of losing my warranty. So what problems have you guys had that would be covered under warranty?
From what I can tell, rooting the stock rom is a software issue and should not void any hardware warranties, and if you break the phone with insurance on it how can they possibly tell any way? The issue arises when you put a custom rom on your phone. I'll give you an example: I bricked my M trying to put a custom rom on it, so i used RSD lite to flash the standard rom, and still had issues, so i went to the Verizon store and gave the some bs and they scanned it and factory reset it for me. VoilĂ !
Hope this helps!

I think rooting a phone voids the whole warranty. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't have insurance on it I roll all hard core like that. I'm wondering what have people had problems with?

Question about root and warranty

So, I'm going to get the D802 variant tomorrow.
I want to root this phone, but still be able to use warranty in case I need it.
What I'm going to do is:
1. Root using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
2. If I need to un-root to get warranty repair, is it correct all I need to do is flash my stock ROM again and they will have no clue this phone was ever rooted ? if so, (A) can I backup my stock ROM before rooting, so I could use it when I need, and if so, how ? (B) what program do I use to flash my stock ROM, if I want to un-root ?
Thanks!
Edit:
I just saw this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
Does this answer my #2 question regarding how to flash my stock ROM ? (so I don't even have to save my ROM, I can download it from there?)
Doesn't anyone has an answer for this ?
This is a very important issue to anyone who root and want to be sure he doesn't lose warranty...

You want a manufacturers warranty you don't root.... You want to root you get insurance.... You have insurance, you won't make a thread like this.

I'm not sure what are you talking about... you can definitely root AND have warranty (all around the world). The only thing you need to do is un-root before you send it for warranty repair. This thread deals exactly with that - how to un-root.
I've rooted every phone I've gotten since the Incredible 1 and not once have I unrooted before sending it in for warranty. All they do is check the hardware, hook it up to a machine, and flash the stock software. End of story.

[Q] Warranty Return - Rooted/Unlocked

Hey Guys,
So I have my Razr M rooted with an unlocked bootloader and I'm running CM 10.1 stable. My headphone jack is messed up due to some hardware issues so VZW is sending me a warranty replacement. As of right now I still have the warning message that pops up about my bootloader being unlocked...if I flash a new bootloader image, this should take care of the message so that if Verizon turns on my phone that it doesn't look like I've unlocked it correct?

Well if you flash the boot logo that will remove the bootloader unlocked image yes... But your still going to be on cm not to mention the custom recovery.... Then you have the built in root checker and it saying that its unlocked in the fast boot menu.... Then your going to get a device that cannot be unlocked maybe even unrootable... I would have replaced it myself rather then risk the up to $500 fee for sending back that device (if they look into it) and having a device that is not unlockable or rootable.... Normally yes the just inspect it for physically damage and toss it in a bin for later repair but I just always have bad luck with this kind of thing so I would have spent 6$ on a head phone jack and put it in....

I've never repaired anything like that and from what I can tell it involves soldering which I have never done and don't own a soldering iron or anything. I'm okay with not having an unlocked bootloader as I figured it was a possibility when I bought the phone in the first place. I just want root mainly to get rid of bloat apps and have AdAway. Those are really the only things I use root for and I don't use a lot of the features that are in some of the custom roms. Especially since I know Kit-Kat is coming to the Razr M now it's not that much of a deal.
Is there a way to flash the stock image and relock the bootloader?
Use Matts utility to flash stock... Then update... There is no way to lock the boot loader... And no soldering needed it's a pressure connect

So I got my new RAZR M today and it's still running 98.16.3.
I'm having trouble finding which update fixes the exploit to lock the bootloader. Is that 98.18.78? It's not imperative that I unlock the bootloader but I don't want to update my phone if it's going to fix the exploit in case I feel like unlocking it in the future.
EDIT: Looks like the build is from May 29th 2013 which would seem like it can be unlocked since the update that broke the exploit was in July correct?

Darn. Not a huge issue to me now but who knows down the line. I was more worried about getting stuck on Jelly Bean which is why I rooted/unlocked early but now that I know we're getting Kit Kat I don't care as much. Rooting is really the issue for me but the current OTA can still be rooted correct?

Okay so I rooted my phone but now it's saying that SU Binary is not installed. Everywhere I go everyone's just like oh install this .zip from recovery which obviously isn't possible for me. How can I install the SU binary?
