Basic Device Information
There are many variants of the Asus Zenfone 2, and it is important to use the files for the corresponding device or you may damage your device permanently. They are:

These are the entire ROMs for each stock version. If some part of Android gets messed up, flashing this will restore it back to stock. This will be organized by device model. For the SKU, CN refers to China, JP refers to Japan, and WW refers to everywhere else in the world.

OTA Updates
These are the smaller, OTA packages. Do not use this if you are rooted. If they do not appear automatically on your phone, you can download the corresponding OTA and update your phone manually by placing the OTA zip on your SD card renaming the OTA zip to:

Then go into the stock recovery by holding the volume up key while powering it on. Once the phone vibrates, release the Power Key but continue holding Vol Up. Then click Vol Down until the Box in the top says "Recovery". Click the Power button once to install it. Don't forget to delete the update after it is finished.

Pre-Root Firmware
These are generally used to restore the /system of a rooted phone before applying an OTA update. Having a modified /system often will lead to a bootloop, so flashing the Pre-Root system.img and other parts is recommended. Be careful to choose the correct model and firmware on the right. Use WinRAR to connect all of the system.img parts together.

This method actually worked for me when I rooted with the one-click tool. It also keeps root after update.

It caused some people to bootloop who had modified lots of parts on their /system and deleted lots of apps. Best to be safe and flash the pre-rooted images first.

Ok, I normally just freeze the bloat with Titanium Backup that I don't want and I haven't done an insane amount of /system modding

That's what I do now, and have been recommending to people who ask about uninstalling bloatware in the Q&A section.

The way that the update-script in the OTA works is that it checks the integrity of the /system apps and then installs a newer version of it that is included in the OTA.

Btw if you unroot your stock rom and you have not messed with the system partition you can flash the ota's in twrp just fine no need to use the stock recovery or rename them

im out because i had an emergency . my son was hospitalized. ill be back in the next few hours. unfortunately no pc access in the past few days and data speed is unbelievably slow.....

ANDROID TERMINOLOGY​Thanks to @benjamingwynn with his great quick Definitions​ADB - "Android Debug Bridge" a system that can be accessed using a computer where you can manage the device from. You need the Android SDK to use it.
AOSP - "Android open source project" a project by Google Inc. to give android to developers and manufactures for free.
APK - "Android Package" an Android application
Bloatware - Software or 'apps' that you don't need, but come preinstalled to a device's /system partition, meaning that you cannot remove them unless the device has been rooted. Usually, these are apps are sponsored by a company and included by a carrier for profit
CDMA/GSM - A type of network communication between phones and carriers. GSM phones normally are included with SIM Cards that authorize them onto the network. CDMA have this authorization built in and do not need a sim card.
Custom recovery - A modified version of stock recoveries that allow you to do more things in the recovery mode.
Cyanogenmod (CM) - A free open-source project based on the AOSP. It is a modded version of the Android firmware
Dalvik-Cache - Holds all of the pre-compiled .dex files created from installed apps. These files are static and do not change unless the app is updated.
Deodexed - Where ODEX files are moved into the actual applications modded) version of the Android firmware.
Developer - A man or woman who has created (developed) software.
Firmware - a piece of software to make hardware function correctly. This can refer to Radio Firmware, but is normally used as another name for ROM.
Governor - A system embedded into the kernel to automatically change the current working CPU frequency depending on the workload. It would only go up to what it is overclocked (or underclocked) to, this is called the maximum frequency. It would not drop below the minimum frequency.
KANG - The process of creating a code based of someone else's code.
Kernel - An important part of all operating systems that handles the CPU and other vital components. A modded kernel may be used for overclocking.
Logcat - A logging system built into the ADB
Mod - A modification to a part of the phones software. It is also POSSIBLE to mod the phones hardware but is not recommended.
OTA - "Over the air" a term used to indicate software that was sent to phones directly through the internet to their phones.
Open-source - (not to be confussed with free) A peice of software that is free to edit, use, distribute and share with no charge.
Overclock - To exceed the default maximum CPU speed. This could make a phone more powerful but may cause damage. Although no damaged has been reported so far it could still drain battery life.
Radio Firmware - A type of software that allows correct communication with the radio and the operating system. A newer firmware would normally improve battery life and call quality. The radio firmware only applies to the CDMA/GSM radio.
Radio - (not to be confused with Radio Firmware) A piece of hardware that allows communication. There are 3 main radios in your phone. Bluetooth, WiFi and GSM/CDMA.
ROM -
1. A modified version of the Android operating system operating system.
2. Read Only Memory, a place where information is stored and can not be destroyed, modified or written to.​
Stock - An unchanged version of something. Example: I just flashed stock sense.
Underclock - To change your phones maximum frequency to LOWER than the default to attempt to extend the phones lifespan and battery.
WIP - "Work In Progress"
Zipalligned - An archive alignment tool that provides important optimization to Android application (.apk) files. The purpose is to ensure that all uncompressed data starts with a particular alignment relative to the start of the file. Specifically, it causes all uncompressed data within the .apk, such as images or raw files, to be aligned on 4-byte boundaries. This allows all portions to be accessed directly with mmap() even if they contain binary data with alignment restrictions. The benefit is a reduction in the amount of RAM consumed when running the application.
INTL - International
Odex - Files that are collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application.
Recovery Mode - A special environment that you can boot into for troubleshooting and upgrading purposes

All Xiaomi users suffer from a single problem, Firmware update. As there are many devices with no one to provide the newest firmware update every single release. And also developers who provide updates to devices may forget or be busy sometimes, so releases are provided later. Here is my simple solution:

A set of various script that automatically generates Xiaomi firmware flashable zip files every MIUI new update!
My scripts download MIUI official ROMs, both Developer and Stable, Global and China, extracts the firmware-update folder, generates firmware flashable zip with auto-written "updater-script", and uploads them automatically to many servers.
The scripts are completely automated, running on a Linux server every six hours.
Note:
Names will be in the following manner:

What is Firmware? Is it a full ROM or OTA package?
Firmware is not a ROM nor OTA Package, it's a set of low-level drivers which helps the operating system do whatever it wants to do. It includes various things like Modem, Bluetooth, Bootloader, DSP and etc.
Why should I update the Firmware?
Firmware is provided from Xiaomi directly, and there are no sources for it to let developers build and edit it on their own like custom ROMs, so if you want to keep your device up to date always update your firmware!
Do I need updating the Firmware If I'm MIUI official or custom ROM user?
No, MIUI ROMs contain the firmware-update package which I extract and provide here.
What are the supported devices?
All Snapdragon and MTK devices including China-only devices.

How to update firmware?
1- Download the package you want to flash. IT MUST BE NAMED WITH THE SAME CODENAME OF YOUR DEVICE.
2- Flash it using TWRP or any custom recovery. There's no need to wipe/format anything before or after the installation.
How to check the updated firmware?
Usually, the modem gets updated with newer firmware, you can check it in Settings > About > Baseband.

Only Custom ROMs (aosp and so on) users.
If you use any kind of MIUI, whether official or modded, you don't need this.

I've got the Chinese version of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite (platina), and I can make calls on China Mobile, but China Telecom sim cards won't let me dial out or receive calls. Everything else seems to work: 4G data for example, WIFI, BT. I just can't use my phone for calling.
I've flashed Xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 based on pie (9.1.24), and I've tried flashing all of the pie firmwares you've posted. The problem persists. Any ideas? I'm running out of ideas.
Baseband shows as AT31c7-00023-0213_2215_f1a4031. Even after I flash firmware with TWRP, the baseband number doesn't appear to change at all.
Full disclosure: Earlier I flashed PE pie before flashing Xiaomi.eu pie. Did I break my phone?

Flashing custom rom won't brick your device.
Try to clean flash miui Chinese latest build and check if the problem still exists.

That did the trick!
Just a note to anyone using the Chinese version of this phone: You need to flash the Chinese developer rom (I used 9.2.15) before flashing any other pie roms. Flashing the official global rom won't cut it, you must use the Chinese rom. From TWRP I wiped system, data, cache, dalvik and installed the aforementioned rom, rebooted, confirmed I could make phone calls, then flashed TWRP again via fastboot, wiped everything again, then installed the pie rom of my choice.

1- if you want to just make flashable firmware zip then use Xiaomi Flashable Firmware Creator. But if you want to run the script in an automated way on your server you can remove devices from my script lists, and add/update tokens in your environment.
2- well, you can run both. But I prefer using Pie fw with pie roms and vice versa.
