[How to] Volume Booster - LG G5 [root needed] - LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey there guys,
First hope to post in proper forum and in case I missed it, I kindly ask a mod to move it.
So just got my LG G5 (H850) yesterday and been exploring the software LG put up.
Now wanted to change the volume of music when listening on headset but did not saw a proper "How-to" guide so thought I should do it.
Warning!!!
Root is needed in order to fully complete this guide.
It might be possible without by creating a flashable TWRP zip, but was too lazy to do it myself. Maybe someone will do it!
Now I use Solid Explorer here (playstore link) and is simple to do it.
First open Solid Explorer and navigate to /root/etc folder then open file that is named lge_operator_mixer_paths_tasha.xml with SE Text Editor (warning this is tested only on INT LG-H850)
Now while in the file, search (or scroll down) for
Code:
<mpath name="headphones">
Now edit the values to match your needs (think max is 92 but I suggest 87 for good sound with less distortion)
Code:
<ctl name="RX1 Mix Digital Volume" value="[B]87[/B]" />
<ctl name="RX2 Mix Digital Volume" value="[B]87[/B]" />
Now save the file (it may ask for root permission at this point) and restart phone.
Make sure not to change file permission by mistake, but if you follow the tutorial closely you should be just fine.
I have included two pics to make things clear in case you missed it so see posted attachments below.
Have fun!

Thanks!

Do it! Does it only work on the headphones? Could be do it on speaker? Thank U!

I use the app Volume Booster by Goodev and it does the job without root..

Okay, is there a mod for the 830? because my volume is really low and I tried Viper but it doesn't really do much. Music sounded much louder on my Galaxy S4.

I am hard of hearing. I wear a hearing aid so I'm looking for a phone with good volume all around. .would the g5 be something anyone here would suggest? If not can someone pls direct in me I'm the right direction on what phone would be good for my situation. Thanks in advance.

With volume boost the g5 gets really loud. Louder than a s7, I compared.

somebody can try if with values from 95 and above music don't stop automatically? i had this mistake increasing on a huawei p1( with a certain value music stops), if i put for example 100 there are possibilities that stops randomly or it work always? i looked that there aren't kernel with sound features, and this block me from buying this phone

thanks for the reply, but i only wanna know if there is the bug that playblack music stops like happen to the another phone modifying the file(the huawei), the 100 was an example xD, if you can try with max volume and 95(now i don't know if when i buy it i set 92 like you or above/under)

Thanks for the trick but I have a question about the lge_operator_mixer_paths_tasha.xml file !
I am experiencing a strange low volume when streaming music in AirPlay using the awesome AirAudio app (airaudio.eu). It seems to be related to the device because I don't have any issues when I use the app from my Huawei G6-L11.
I noticed that there are many more settings other than <mpath name="headphones"> in the xml file and I am wondering if one of them could fix my issue?
Do you have an idea which setting should I change?

Sound Booster/ Sound Pre Amp Possible?

I've been using my streak for the last few days now.
While I'm happy with it, I only wish if there was a way to hack/increase the volume of the Streak with some program or by changing registry values.
Are there ANY ways at all to boost the volume/audio and how??

I'm working on it
I can get a modified AudioFilter.csv to load, but it wont read from it. There are also some audio related files in 'sys/modules' which get loaded from boot but when you modify them and reboot the 'mediaserver' it doesn't seem to do anything.
I hope you succeed in boosting the audio Meltus, let us know if you succeed, good luck.
An old thread I know, but did anything come from this?
Oddly, movies sound horrible, using the default player or Rockplayer with hardware player (mostly because I hate the 'this file is audio only' text), but music sounds ok. Is that weird?

DSP Manager

Has anyone used it on their Note 3 yet?
i hate the audio with a passion thru the external speaker, DSP is my only hope..

I gave up on DSP Manager after it never seemed to play music via the right profile (eg, bluetooth headphones would often be played with the "speaker" profile, or other shenanigans)
Then I discovered Vipers Audio! And never looked back... (I have this running on my Note 3)

Wow thanks for the prompt reply dude. I agree Dsp isn't perfect, but it would help compared to stock, it's really awful imo.
So, in your experience has Viper improved the external speaker experience? I'm not so fussed with the 3.5, it's the external sounds that are bugging me.
Thanks

I haven't used it for the external speaker (but it supports this, just as DSP Manager does), but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you were to try it.
FYI: I use the "Lock effect mode" to force my Bluetooth audio profile onto all audio outputs, works a charm.

Yes, you need root to complete the install. It goes something like this: install it like a normal APK, open it, it will ask for root privs, once granted, it will autoinstall the audio driver, and then all you need to do is restart. Job done!

Just a thought tho - the Note 3 external driver is small, doesn't it distort easily driving bassy beats?

Yeah, heres my profile I use: *lots* of bass via the Dynamic Subsystem module, EQ that brings out the highs, and the "Extreme Headphone V1" listening device.
The profile files go under your SD Card under the viper4android/profiles directory (if the folder doesn't exist, try saving a profile first to autocreate it)

Dude.....seriously?
Bass is driven by the amount of air the driver can push - Base is omni-directional (i.e.you feel it rather than hearing where it's coming from) so it doesn't really matter where you put your bass unit from a surround sound setup.
If you think the external speaker is going to give ANY sort of bass, you're seriously misguided, sorry!
If the frequency is too low then the unit just won't play it, that's why speakers have a frequency range.

HOW TO: Disable Camera Shutter Sound (Root)

I don't believe this was posted in an actual step-by-step guide, so here it is! This worked to successfully stop the camera shutter sound from going off when snapping photos with the volume up on my VS986. I hope this is the same as other G4 variants, so let me know if this works for you as well and which model you have.
Before you get started, you need to be rooted for this method.
Step 1:
Use a root-capable file browser of your choice (I prefer SolidExplorer) and navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Step 2:
Locate cam_snap_0.ogg and camera.click.ogg and rename the file extensions to .OLD, as seen below.
Step 3:
Reboot, then test
Or just mute the sound before taking a picture if you really don't want be heard.

Not everyone thinks about it before they launch the camera app, and this fixes the need to always turn the volume down.

There's many reasons people don't want the shutter sound. Such as taking photos of a sleeping baby, animals without scaring them, in quiet restaurant or function, etc. Plus third party programs don't utilize LG's great camera software.

Did you know some Country Variants etc: Korea Variants like what I have, even you mute the sound of your device, the camera shutter still as loud as it is. I believe it is the policy of the country
https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20031111/099242.shtml
Now if we can shut off the autofocus sound
Figured it out, just rename the af_failure and af_success file.

Right but it would seem all the G4 variants do not allow to disable sound. I find that strange since samsungs provide that setting for non-korean variants.
So it should not require root to be able to do this...but whatever...

I edited and wrote the fix underneath my original question lol
Here's something I don't get...
cam_snap_0 and camera_click don't actually seem to make the sound we hear in the camera app, right?
The closest I found was shuter_mirror_up/down, but that didn't actually take away the shutter sound like the two outlined above.
Why is that?
All shutter and focus sounds disabled! Thanks!

Just rename doesnt work for me (H815), but what worked: edited audio files with audacity. now the cam is silent, always while AF and taking a picture.
No flashable zip. Extract and replace files manually in /system/media/audio/ui/
Edit: one day there was sound again. Fixed it with setting permissions to -rw-r--r-- on every replaced file. Reboot and there was silence.
Edit: heres a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68225350&postcount=21

Serious Simple Audio Improvement (?)

Ok I'm an audiophile musician, as many of you I think
and, though stock audio just works I'm trying to look at audio mods here
I looked in many threads and I can see that ARISE is very well known, supported and loved, but looks like is very customizeable and confusing....
dolby atmos in apps section doesn't work well, it lowers volume and...well, I can't feel any improvement
viper4android should be nice, but I never tried it
now...what are you using? things that work nice and stable, with quality enhancements....don't need thousands of profiles or eq since I'm a big fan of flat sound (the way is meant to be listened)
Thank you for your attention, once we'll have some satisfactory answer I'll make a poll and a general AIO audiophile thread with all working options as referral.
EDIT: ARISE audio system simple guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
go to this thread, don't be scared, just search for lastest deuteronomy zip and flash it
you will find a nice app called viper4arise that will let you manage settings separately for every audio output with simple and nice UI
you can also import presets and plugins, but it's secondary.
Im going to tune in on this. Would like to install ARISE on my nexus (comes with Viper4Android) but there are so many versions to choose from, it gets a bit confusing.
Any tips on which ARISE works for our phone on 7.1.1 ?
ARISE is the right answer. It's customizable for true audiophiles but simply flashing it seriously improves audio quality without you having to tweak anything. Seriously. I know there are several zips for ARISE. Just make sure you get the most current stable release (Deuteronomy 2.3.3) and I usually go for the smallest zip file because I don't need all of the extra stuff like Dolby Atmos and whatnot. It comes with a modified version of the Viper4Android app that allows you to tweak settings to your liking. The app, by default, is setup for novices or people that don't need to get too specific with any settings so you can boost bass, enable clarity options, spectrum extension, etc. by toggling the switch next to it. Simple as that.

so. you suggest to flash deuteronomy (lastest) and...just that? what about plugins, the prop editor that comes with hell of documentation...profiles and stuff...none of that?
if you're sure it works, is stable enough, simple and it has graphic (not text editing or changing files on system) settings through an app....I'm going to test it right now....

I never did any of that. I just flashed, booted up, went into the ARISE V4A app and toggled the options I wanted. There was an immediate difference in audio quality. You can toggle the options while playing music and hear the difference.

Really depends on what you're playing the music on. I usually enabled Spectrum Extension (0.4 strength) as a lot of my music is 320kbps MP3 and Bass Boost (default settings) for Bluetooth and Headset (3.5mm jack) while enabling "Speaker Optimization" for the speaker. I mainly use the bluetooth audio in my car and while my car stereo isn't that great but I did throw some Kickers in the front doors. Spectrum Extension is awesome, but make sure to disable it if you're listening to any FLAC files.

I really only listen to music through headphones/AUX in the car so I edited some of those to the audiophiles info in the post. I turned on the spectrum extension and will see how I like it since it's all streamed from spotify (no flac).

Because it interferes with ARISE / V4A. If you're completely stock with no audio mods there's no point to disabling it.

No output? Didn't happen to me! Did you check file permission?
Tell me what lines you edited, and to what value...

Maybe you increased the values too much? Try 87 or 88.
I'm currently using 87, with some more loudness via Viper. Sound is loud & crisp & clear...
