I gave up on DSP Manager after it never seemed to play music via the right profile (eg, bluetooth headphones would often be played with the "speaker" profile, or other shenanigans)
Then I discovered Vipers Audio! And never looked back... (I have this running on my Note 3)

Wow thanks for the prompt reply dude. I agree Dsp isn't perfect, but it would help compared to stock, it's really awful imo.
So, in your experience has Viper improved the external speaker experience? I'm not so fussed with the 3.5, it's the external sounds that are bugging me.
Thanks

I haven't used it for the external speaker (but it supports this, just as DSP Manager does), but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you were to try it.
FYI: I use the "Lock effect mode" to force my Bluetooth audio profile onto all audio outputs, works a charm.

This could be what I'm looking for, but I'm still relatively new to flashing etc, seems a bit daunting, the installation process? I take it you need to be rooted?

Yes, you need root to complete the install. It goes something like this: install it like a normal APK, open it, it will ask for root privs, once granted, it will autoinstall the audio driver, and then all you need to do is restart. Job done!

Thanks, this could be the key to make me love my Note 3. I need to root it first, then I'll look at tackling the installation in near future, thanks for replying, appreciate it
Just a thought tho - the Note 3 external driver is small, doesn't it distort easily driving bassy beats?

Yeah, heres my profile I use: *lots* of bass via the Dynamic Subsystem module, EQ that brings out the highs, and the "Extreme Headphone V1" listening device.
The profile files go under your SD Card under the viper4android/profiles directory (if the folder doesn't exist, try saving a profile first to autocreate it)

Dude.....seriously?
Bass is driven by the amount of air the driver can push - Base is omni-directional (i.e.you feel it rather than hearing where it's coming from) so it doesn't really matter where you put your bass unit from a surround sound setup.
If you think the external speaker is going to give ANY sort of bass, you're seriously misguided, sorry!
If the frequency is too low then the unit just won't play it, that's why speakers have a frequency range.

MP3 Player

Morning all
Sooooooooooo , after putting some of my favorite music on my DHD last night, packed my Sony BIN headphones and set off this morning , only to discover the stock MP3 player is rubbish ! , no volume or anything.
Any suggestions which one is best to use ?
Thanks
Steve
My suggestion would be PlayerPro. After trying many, this has everything I ever wanted from a music player.
thank you for the quick response
That one costs money though
Any good free ones ?
DoubleTwist seems to be the best right now.
Tried , and its great thanks .....
Is there anything I can do to increase the volume ?
It seems so low , even at top media volume
Thanks
Steve
Most custom ROMs have volume enhancements on them, but if you don't want to go down that road and are already running a Gingerbread ROM, then try an app called Volume+ from the market. If you're on Froyo, there is DSP Manager but personally I don't recommend it.
DoubleTwist is a rather complete player. Try it out.
I'd suggest Double Twist or this https://market.android.com/details?id=org.abrantix.rockon.rockonnggl&feature=more_from_developer
Lovly ta
Yep, doubletwist is good, no question there. It's just that since I'm kind of a neat freak when it comes to folder structures with my music, I really appreciate the option to browse by folders; something most players seem to lack. I also liked the album wall display of playerpro, but of course as you said its not free.
Bought PlayerPro also. If you listen to music alot, its really worth it^^ Also theres an option that you can skip songs with volume buttons, thats a great feature in some situations.
Thats all great thanks , but the volume is still low , is there anyway I can increase the headphone volume of MP3's ?
Thanks
Steve

If you downloaded it from the Market and it's called 'Volume+' then you have the right one, but it only works on Gingerbread. When you run the app you have the options of applying volume gain to the speaker or headphone output, and you can also change the EQ. There's a Bass Enhancement option too, but I've never known it make any difference.
Give PowerAMP a shot if you want to browse by folder. There's a trial version on the market. Best player I've seen.

Oh ....... the one I downloaded was Volume Plus, not Volume +
I see its £0.99 , I know its not much but I havnt got a card to pay it with at the moment ..
Is there a free version anywhere ?
Thanks all
Steve
There's no free version unfortunately, but £0.99 is more than a fair price to pay for it if you can convince someone to lend you their card
Someone mentioned PowerAMP earlier. That app has an in built equalizer and some of the presets on that make the volume a bit louder, though if you're playing music for a long period of time then this will take a toll on battery life.

[Q] Is there an equalizer that works on PHONE audio?

DroidX 2.3.3 - Rooted via Pete's - LauncherPro
I bought EQUALIZER from SmartAndroidApps, and POWERAMP from MaxMP. Both do well with media audio, but neither can manipulate the telephone audio stream.
I'm hard of hearing, and would like to control telephone audio from the speaker. My current solution is external, using earbuds with a lump in the cable that houses a passive RC circuit to approximate the curve I need.
Is there an EQ app or method to do that internally, so I can use the speakerphone?
There once was a flashable zip called turn it to eleven that allowed you to exceed normal volume levels... maybe look around for that or something like it... if you are not rooted I don't think there are any options...

Tried amplifying the sounds with something like wave pad or MP3 gain, then putting them back?
I always amplify mine with wave pad, then put them in the media folder of my sd card, that way I don't have to use root explorer every time to put them back in system sounds whenever I flash another nightly.

using root explorer, they are in system/media/audio/ringtones. They are .ogg. You may have to convert them before amplifying them. I would rename them and put them on the sd card, in media/audio/ringtones. Wave pad may convert them, or free make. Both are free. Good luck, let me know how it goes, any questions just ask.

Very cool I see the alarm tones too maybe now I'll actually hear the alarm going off... gonna copy these to sd and try to convert, increase volume, reconvert and save back into root explorer... wonder if I'll have to do this after each nightly? Flashing nightly should overwrite them, I know it did with my ringtones, that's why I started just putting them on the sd. Overwrites boot animation too, I gave up on changing that every time.

What I really need is to apply EQ to telephone (incoming voice) audio.
I can do it externally via the 3.5mm audio jack, using an active equalizer. Bulky. It would be great to do it inside the phone.
Phone Audio Equalizer
i would highly recomend the dsp manager because it equalizes your application and music audio output, your speaker output , and you can control bluetooth settings as well. I personally think its better than any of the paid apps that you can get. i also dont get why someone hasnt posted a link for thDSPManager.apk but i will post one for you and everyone else.

Equalizer problems: sound gets "less" when using it

hello,
i've searched now for a while and could not find a solution for this problem:
on my device (and this was the same with my note2) and on stock kernels i could not get the equalizer function properly.
the stock equalizer does not alter the sound in the right way, in fact it makes it LESS "loud" on the opposite frequencies i want to adjust.
example: if i want to add heights the bass goes down significantly, but no hights are added. same for adding bass: the heigts go down, but the bass level did not increase. if i turn the EQ off, the sound get much louder then, although i adjusted the typically "U" formed curve!
as far as my search showed this is a problem for other people as well, here in the note3 forum there are almost no postings regarding this.
is your EQ working as expected?
what apps do you use? stock music player or something different? i use google play music, but its the same for other apps as well.
even tried to remove all other music apps (as suggested in some postings) due to possible conflicts, but this wont help! i also installed a different equalizer app (and removed the stock one, after only disabling it) from the market, same results.
on my note2 i had the same issue, the only thing which helped was to flash a custom kernel. with this i was able to use equalizers the way they were meant!
does someone has some experience here?
regards,
markus

thx for the answer,
i used poweramp for years, and it did me an excellent job! but for convenience i switched to google play some time ago, and since then i have this equalizer problem with samsung stock kernels! if i remember right this is since the introduction of 4.0 or 4.1!
because of my migration to google play i would need a solution how to get the equalizer right, and i'm curious if other people have the same problem! and: if someone managed to get it work!

Now I know this is many years old, but I see from your sig you have an S8+ now. Do you still have this issue with the stock EQ? I'm getting exactly the same behaviour with the S8+ and the S9+, turning any slider up just seems to cut the entire volume down, it's so annoying!

Headphone Fix [5.0]

There is currently an issue on all lollipop ROMs pertaining to headsets that do not have microphones. When such a headphone is plugged in it either triggers a continuous loop of Google search prompts or a multitude of random screen touches. If you use headphones or any 3.5mm compliant headphone jack device, you may want to flash this till it is fixed from source.

If I try with the defaut recovery from Cyanogen it gives me the E:No signature E:Verification failed errors.
And this recovery does not have the option to disable this check.

You can use ES file explorer or winrar on your desktop to extract the file inside of the zip. After which you can use es file explorer to manually copy paste the file to your system partition and then assign appropriate permissions.

This should not happen, as this fixes both the Google voice issue as well as the white box issue. Are you using a headset with a mic or a standard headphone?

This is re-creatable usually through pausing a video and changing the quality (to 720p or above?) and doesn't seem to happen when not using headphones. Apologies for the lack of specifics, it's a bit finicky. Have since flashed two newer nightlies and still present.
EDIT - this can be temporarily fixable by turning the screen off and on again a few times...

So, anyone tried this or know if it's even necessary in CM12.1?
I must admit I've flashed this fix on the last few nightlies without checking first if the bug is still present as I've seen nothing about it in the CM changelog.
For anyone who cares, this is still necessary with CM12.1...

It doesn't affect ALL headphones, it never has. Still affects my non-microphone Shures that work on stock, after a full wipe and fresh install of CM12.1.
I'm still unsure if this is necessary, I have still not flashed a stock lollipop ftf and have the need to use this on newer cm based firmware's. I shall flash Lollipop and verify whether it is necessary.

Serious Simple Audio Improvement (?)

Ok I'm an audiophile musician, as many of you I think
and, though stock audio just works I'm trying to look at audio mods here
I looked in many threads and I can see that ARISE is very well known, supported and loved, but looks like is very customizeable and confusing....
dolby atmos in apps section doesn't work well, it lowers volume and...well, I can't feel any improvement
viper4android should be nice, but I never tried it
now...what are you using? things that work nice and stable, with quality enhancements....don't need thousands of profiles or eq since I'm a big fan of flat sound (the way is meant to be listened)
Thank you for your attention, once we'll have some satisfactory answer I'll make a poll and a general AIO audiophile thread with all working options as referral.
EDIT: ARISE audio system simple guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
go to this thread, don't be scared, just search for lastest deuteronomy zip and flash it
you will find a nice app called viper4arise that will let you manage settings separately for every audio output with simple and nice UI
you can also import presets and plugins, but it's secondary.
Im going to tune in on this. Would like to install ARISE on my nexus (comes with Viper4Android) but there are so many versions to choose from, it gets a bit confusing.
Any tips on which ARISE works for our phone on 7.1.1 ?
ARISE is the right answer. It's customizable for true audiophiles but simply flashing it seriously improves audio quality without you having to tweak anything. Seriously. I know there are several zips for ARISE. Just make sure you get the most current stable release (Deuteronomy 2.3.3) and I usually go for the smallest zip file because I don't need all of the extra stuff like Dolby Atmos and whatnot. It comes with a modified version of the Viper4Android app that allows you to tweak settings to your liking. The app, by default, is setup for novices or people that don't need to get too specific with any settings so you can boost bass, enable clarity options, spectrum extension, etc. by toggling the switch next to it. Simple as that.

so. you suggest to flash deuteronomy (lastest) and...just that? what about plugins, the prop editor that comes with hell of documentation...profiles and stuff...none of that?
if you're sure it works, is stable enough, simple and it has graphic (not text editing or changing files on system) settings through an app....I'm going to test it right now....

There's a zip with v4a profiles, Copy it to v4a directory in sdcard and choose Audiophile 10.0

I never did any of that. I just flashed, booted up, went into the ARISE V4A app and toggled the options I wanted. There was an immediate difference in audio quality. You can toggle the options while playing music and hear the difference.
EDIT: Oh. Make sure to disable MusicFX or whatever that nonsense is. Settings > Apps > Show system apps > MusicFX and disable.

ok! so this is a solution. I'm going to try it right now....
for anyone else who pass here, if there is any other thing you are using please reply here! we want options!
EDIT: Ok guys I tried ARISE and it works damn well, I can manage audio settings without profiles since I know how to tune that, but main mportant thing is that it works.
Now, regarding higher bitrate? or anything else?

Really depends on what you're playing the music on. I usually enabled Spectrum Extension (0.4 strength) as a lot of my music is 320kbps MP3 and Bass Boost (default settings) for Bluetooth and Headset (3.5mm jack) while enabling "Speaker Optimization" for the speaker. I mainly use the bluetooth audio in my car and while my car stereo isn't that great but I did throw some Kickers in the front doors. Spectrum Extension is awesome, but make sure to disable it if you're listening to any FLAC files.

I really only listen to music through headphones/AUX in the car so I edited some of those to the audiophiles info in the post. I turned on the spectrum extension and will see how I like it since it's all streamed from spotify (no flac).

Why do you disable MusicFX?
And it's necessary on stock too?

Because it interferes with ARISE / V4A. If you're completely stock with no audio mods there's no point to disabling it.
