Replacing battery icon on rooted S7 edge stock rom? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a pretty new golden S7 edge running rooted (thanks chainfire) stock rom.
I would really like to get the xposed stuff running but am to lazy to factory recet the phone at the moment (required to get custom recovery running).
I saw that rom toolbox lite can replace the battary icon (amongst others) using customs made and metamorph thems and so on.
My question is, is there risk of bootloop or bricking doing this?
Do anyone have a safe way to replace battery icon, the one in the statusbar I mean, not in the settings menu.

Bump?

After using the S7 Edge for 1 week with / and Xposed. Stock TW has to go

Got my S7 Edge SM-935W8 Installed TWRP, CF Auto root and xposed. Before i did that i used the stock phone for a day. FASTEST PHONE IVE EVER USED. NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THIS PHONE OUT OF THE BOX. THIS IS NOT A POsT TO BASH THE S7 EDGE
Off the go xposed did not work well. Bootlooped every other restart and added a lot of time to startup.
Modules I installed:
Boot Manager
BubnleUpNp
Clean Lockscreen
Custom Share
Dynamic AlarmIcon 2
Flatstyke bar indicator
Flatstylekeyboard
Gravitybox
Greenify
Luckypatcher
RootCloak
Smooth system progress bar
XGPM
Xinstaller
Xprivacy
Xprivacy in app info
Xtouchwhiz
Was it easy to root?what method did you follow please?only rooted once and was nexus 6p never rooted another?cheers
So does that mean you are going to flash back the stock ROM. I'm undecided on whether to root or not. I've been jailbreaking since the first iPhone, and the S7 edge is my first ever android device. I must say I can do almost everything I used to on jailbreak but with a lot less effort.

I have the same config, except I obtained root with TWRP + SuperSU.
Runs better than Stock, and No Reboots.
Are you sure you got the correct Xposed version ? (Arm64, SDK 23)
Out of the box, First thing I did was Power up in bootloader, Flashed TWRP. Root is a must for me.
A little confused as to the OP? What exactly are you stating or trying to convey?

Use Xposed from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/unofficial-xposed-samsung-lollipop-t3180960
This is specifically made for TW devices, because Samsung makes modifications to ART and other things that break the normal Xposed. I installed it on my S7e and it works like a charm

you sir, are a lifesaver!
thank you so much!
Sorry half the post was removed....
Anyways I wrote this because if you go far enough to trip Knox you aren't going to want to run stock TW. With the features this phone has I can't see myself running cm or a AOSP distro if I lose out on the hardware's capabilities. For a thousand dollar phone the price tag doesn't meet the performancs running stock with root and xposed.
I used wanams custom Xposed v80 x64. The TWRP exynos version and Cf-root. This version of Touchwhiz is 8gb. There is ALOT of RAM usage on the device stock. With Xposed framework on top the device is lagging behind what it should be.
I'm dying to get a custom TW running because this device is a beast but there is to much on top of the essentials that are holding back the s7.
If you are thinking of going the mod route you should not use stock. When the time comes flash a custom TW.

Wasn't a big deal for me, as this is probably the sixth phone I had with Fort Knox.
I wanna start playing with this thing but Sam mobile doesn't have our firmware up yet.
Any other firmware I can use to reflash stock if I run into trouble playing with this thing?
I'm also on the w8 variant and like to have everything on my laptop before I make the leap

You shouldn't need another. With Odin you can flash the recovery again if it fails but after you have a recovery you can just factory reset it and it well go back to default. Go to the TWRP EXYNOS thread and follow his steps. Its a smooth process
Thanks for the reply Benny, that won't work if I want to experiment with the custom rom available tho will it.

Download Nandroid manager and online Android backup. Your gonna have to get TWRP and root
Make a backup and save it to your SD card. Copy it somewhere safe, and make sure you can flash it if anything goes wrong.
Or you can hold off and wait for Sam's mobile. In due time it will have a stock image for your provider
Hi Benny, it's awesome you got it all working. I have same model of the S7 Edge. I am rooted, however I didn't install TWRP yet, because I was confused about the instructions in the "exynos twrp" thread.
Did you glad the "dm-verity- disabler "? I'm not sure what that does, but it was part of the instructions. Also did you do a factory reset when flashing twrp? Because my phone is all setup up now, I don't want to do a factory reset to get twrp.
Please advise
before i root i need to make sure sammy can resolve all 6.0.1 issues, mainly crappy 3d gaming performance. happens on ALL 6.0.1 devices, on Note 5 running angry birds 2 for 5 minutes results in awful lag and stuttering same with s7e, however 5.1.1 Note 5 runs it perfect!!!
i mainly play ppsspp emulator and angry birds 2, and this stupid bug must be resolved!

That file removes the encryption on internal storage. It's required if you wish to have TWRP have read write access to the internal storage. Wichita is required if you plan on using custom rom in the future.
I'm thinking what you could do (which is what I'm gonna do) is flash the auto root method. Then do a full backup with titanium to sd card. Then install TWRP and do full wipe and no diversity script and TWRP root method.
Then reload my titanium backup.
Think this will best of both worlds as I'll have read write access and won't lose all my data.
Can anybody confirm or correct me on my thinking here?

Any interest in an unrooted insanely debloated ROM?

The ENG kernel used for root is great in a sense that it has aided in giving us root access, but it is nowhere near as refined as the factory kernel. @psouza4 has done a TON to make this kernel awesome, but there are a lot of people who have reverted back to stock because of the limitations.
I'm considering making an insanely debloated ROM that will hopefully run on the factory PE1 kernel. Root access would be needed to do the initial install with FlashFire, but afterwards there would be no root access. This might be what a few of you guys are looking for, a blazing fast ROM that runs forever on a charge, without getting hot. Once the ROM is flashed, there will be NO ability to modify unless the ENG kernel is flashed and rooted again. This ROM would NOT be for anyone interested in running Xposed framework in anyway.
If there is enough interest, I'll start working on something FAST!
Definitely interested in this
Extremely interested.
Could you throw in a modified hosts file for ad blocking? Or, should I mod it first then unroot? Also, would bypassing the checks for tethering be an option before going back to original kernel?

I'm hoping to include some mods like this. I believe I'll be able to modify the host file, but you would not be able to update the hosts once the ROM is installed.

Great! I was thinking of trying something along this route. I will make a flashfire backup of internal first then could give it a go.
I'll keep you posted when I have something worthy of flashing.
Wont future updates just re-bloat the rom?

The ROM would prevent future updates, so all updates would be done via re-root and flash.

Yeah.. very interested then... as long as you keep theme store in it
Awesome
This is exactly what I was looking for! I'd be eternally grateful if you did it.
I would love to see something like this!
My question is, since I can always at least disable bloat, can I make some changes (provisioning for tethering, modified hosts file) then unroot and reflash stock kernel?
The only reason I wanted root is for viper4android/audio mods. Would an unrooted rom be able to include that?

That's an interesting question. Some optimizations like that could be added. But that app wouldn't work since it requires root privileges.

This will be great. An insanely debloated stock VZR 935U ROM with non-provisioned tethering, HD calling, and VVM is all that that's needed to make this the ultimate phone. Everything else that's need for full VZW functionality can be installed from the Play Store.
However, how would you go back to the stock kernel after installing this ROM? Just by flashing the stock AP in Odin?
I'd be stoked if this phone had stock mm status bar icons that's the only thing I've honestly really used root for and it still doesn't say LTE but instead the ugly 4G icon.. I'd even be alright with Verizons icon if it wasn't persistent on WiFi but then they're still ics looking signal bars. My s7 runs rather warm and battery drain rather sucks with the eng. Kernel starting to think it's not quite worth being able to themeish my status bar. I'd be interested in a debloated stock rom with HD calling if you can throw in the status bar that's icing on the cake.
Sorry for not checking the thread lately. I'm still trying to figure out how to make this work. I have some ideas, but nothing concrete yet.
This isn't going to work. DM-Verity checks will cause the phone not to boot once the original kernel is flashed back. If there is even a byte changed in the system partition it will make the hash invalid and cause the DM-Verity check to fail. The only debloating you can possibly do is simply disabling packages. (In the event of not wanting the Engineering kernel/root.)

How do I apply an icon pack system wide?

As the title says, not just the launcher but the whole system.
I think you'd have to flash the xposed framework and use unicon to theme it, or you can apply the themes from the galaxy themes store, which also change the icons system wide.
Hope I helped!
I am interested in this too. Samsung has the worst icons and kid-like colors. Coming from HTC, I can't stand the TouchWiz theme. I was forced to install Nova launcher, but I would like settings to be themed aswell. I saw a screenshot of someone's modified settings theme and I think he, too, claimed he used Xposed. I have Xposed installed, but I don't know what to search for in Xposed to have my settings change color. He had a 'double row' mod that also changed the skin. Anyone know how?

Cause of Knox and I used to go crazy with rooting and custom ROMs and kernels on my nexus 4 but all it did for me was introduce bugs and reduce performance. Besides, how would I even root without losingh everything I have atm? It'd be such a huge pain.
Yeah I wouldn't mess with kernel modifications. I just root stock for AdAway or use the most stable ROM nothing too crazy.

What do you mean by "losing everything you have atm"? CF-Autoroot doesn't require wiping anything, only flash custom ROMs do.

Pokémon GO 0.37- Root and a fix? {SOLVED}

Hi.
Have you been able to play the latest Pokémon GO 0.37 on a Note 3 with root?
If so, can you please tell us how you did it in detail?
1. How?
2. What rom are you on?
3. Can i ceep my rom in my sign?
Yeah i know, Pokémon GO is boring, pointless and soo Juni 2016. But we are many that still wants to play it
Thanks for not telling that you are not going to play it in this thread.

It works with root now.

Do a complete unroot in superuser first.
And for how.. it's in the OP under Instructions.
Hmmmmm

I don't play pokemon go, but I hate the idea of not being able to if I would want to, just because I have root.
I have the same problem with an app for a Swedish operator, this app would be great to have, but "nooo, you can't have root".
Makes me so angry.

Paranoid Android team recently added official support for x compact, but I don't know if they have a stable version yet.
You can't get better than rooted stock, custom ROMS always seem to have issues that prevent them from being a full daily driver.

The usual, debloat, new fonts, theme the system, couple of build.prop edits and that's about it for me.
My 2 cent.
Stock ROM is very good. You *could* root to debloat, but I have preferred to just deactivate the useless app (which are on the /system partition, so that you won't get a real advantage in removing them).
At the moment I don't see a big thing in rooting the device. On the other side, you could loose some interesting feature (e.g., vodafone wallet, or some home banking functions)..
Enjoy your Xc!

Stock rom is very good as is, I just recommended root so you can use some apps like greenify :good::good:
A very good thing about Xperia devices is the camera, and with a custom rom the camera app is always lacking (unless they can use/steal the stock camera app?)
Otherwise, I don't care about any other Sony apps.
Rooted stock is very good though I'm happy.
If PA has good camera and I can pass safety net, I might switch one day.
Thanks all! I'll look into build prop, to be honest not sure what this does

I'm in the same boat. Went from a rooted Z1 Compact to the X compact. It seems so tedious to root the X Compact so I haven't done it yet. However I can say I am missing having root, missing Titanium backup etc. We'll see how we go. Hoping for someone to release a guide to root nougat without having to go back to MM.
Mine came with N loaded. It is international version.

Don't get too hung up on build.prop mods as a lot of them don't work anymore if they even did in the first place. The only two entries I have in mine are...
Code:
