Anyone know of a mod for a Galaxy Grand Prime that would enable me to use Qi Wireless Charging?
I Dont want to use the ones that stick into the USB port and have a pad on the back.
I Want the kind where the pads entirely in the phone so I can still use the USB port for data transfer.
no

Actually it's possible to charge wirelessly in almost all devices.. Even devices like Nokia. What you need is a Qi Module or something. Idk where to find these. You can put these modules in your Micro-USB cable and get a really think case. Put the module in the case and put it back in. And put your phone into a wireless charger and your phone will start charging.
i used to have a case to do this along time ago, havnt seen them in a while though

This may seem like a really stupid question, but has anyone tried/succeeded in seeing if this device can charge off USB? That is really the only thing I dislike about it now that I have Dexter, I travel a lot and hauling an extra charger is just a pain.
What about charging thru the docking port if we had a usb cable to fit it?
im sure docking port would work, as it does work with folio100 as example.
but usb charge, is probably a no-go, i guess hardware needs to be redesigned to enable usb charging although kernel does allow you to enable it, but again, maybe a pin of the chip needs to attach to another location on board to enable it.
on folio100 it did not work.. and without kernel source to try changing/enabling it we dont know if it would work..
and remember the port is host/device based, so it might also be it only works when in device mode, which also means travellers would not be able to attach anything if they charge it.. so might be conflicting interests on how it should work. (if it worked)
Thanks for the reply.
I know I've seen this question asked elsewhere, but not for a while. You mentioned the docking port, have we seen ANYTHING that connects to it? even if not a full docking station, a cable to connect via USB to a computer.
Or has anyone figured out a pin map that someone could cobble together a cable
Has anyone found a way to tether through one of the Smart Dock USB ports? I'm interested in using the data from my phone but don't want to use the Hotspot function (don't want to root or pay for HotSpot so I wanna use tethering).
This Smart Dock was alot more finnicky that I had thought. For those having trouble, for me at least, HDMI and anything you're connecting via USB have to be plugged into the dock before you dock your phone to get anything to work. I also have to plug in the HDMI to get the USB ports to work which doesn't make sense to me but what do I know. I was surprised the dock doesn't have the full Micro B connector which I thought was necessary to have MHL and USBOTG at the same. If that's not the case, I'm not sure I understand what the extra pins are for on the Micro-B plug. My screen also automatically shuts off when I dock with HDMI, not sure if that's a "feature" or not.

Maybe it's my model number. I got the EDD-S20EWE. I notice the current one is S20JWE. Or maybe the $60 sale on Amazon got me a knock-off. In any case, there's no way in heck I could recommend this thing to anyone. Too finnicky. One of those gadgets you gotta hold your tongue right to make it work like its supposed to. It works when it wants to for me. I'm driving myself crazy unplugging and plugging stuff back in and restarting things to make it work.
If you want a desktop experience like me, instead of this thing, I'd recommend Screen Mirroring, bluetoothing to keyboard/mouse, and either tethering your data if need that like me, or adding the USB Connector dongle for any other USB items you need. Much less headache from my experience. YMMV.
I didn't own an S4, so I'm not sure if the charging port was the same on that device, but is it safe to use the standard USB charger with the S5? I forgot my stock charger at home and i have my Nexus 5 USB here at work...the S5 is charging and I'm able to view the files on the phone, but what's the point of the little connecting port next to the USB?

On the Note 3 the port was changed to accommodate USB 3.0 and make it unique I guess, however you can still use a normal USB on the device. It's just Samsung adding their own little piece to it while still allowing older USB cables to work.

Good, didn't want the chance of anything to happen.
Since it has a titanium body, it looks like Wireless charging will be missed
Or will it?
It look like it has a charging pad, BUT it looks like it will a magnetic connector will allow Qi-ish like charging where you lay it down without having to connect a usb cable, but the back docking pins will charge the phone. When charged you just pick it up and go without having to disconnect anything, WHICH I FREAKING LOVE ABOUT MY QI wireless charging right now with my Nexus 6.
The back is ceramic, not titanium. So it could work, and does work, but you need to connect with their pins for the phone to recognize the pad. It's wireless but I think without the pins it doesn't work. We will have to wait and see..

Since there's no headphone jack, it would be nice if there were a way to charge the phone and have a 3.5 mm jack plugged in to the USB jack at the same time. Especially in the car.

Just buy a cheap $15 Bluetooth aux. No more wires in my car, besides the charger if I need it.
You know, The phone supports Wireless USB. How exactly do you suppose they accomplish that? Its already been stated by Andy that the two connection points are magnetic for aligning accessories. Now, I don't think anyone knows for SURE how this phone's tech actually works yet. Since Andy went on record to say this tech will be open source, who is to say this wireless communication couldn't support Qi charging with a software update. It's entirely possible that this phone supports that out of the box. Really I am not confident that this could be answered with a " yes it does" or "no it does not" quite yet. Unless I am uninformed? can anyone else chime in?
EDIT** pins do provide power infact too.
When the phone website first launched there was an accessory for a wireless charging dock that said coming soon..... It's not there anymore. I thought it was supposed to transmit power thru the connector pins. But maybe the pins only transfer power from phone to accessory not accessory to phone.

It is still there, when scrolling down the webpage. The image is of the phone lowering to rest in plate charger, to get juice via the two pins on back of phone.

Your right.... It is still there....I overlooked it. Well I'm not really sure why every review says there's no wireless charging. Assuming this dock actually comes out.... It is charging without a cord/wire... Which is essentially wireless charging. It's just not qi wireless charging technology.... It could basically be described as proprietary wireless charging.

I was reading an interview and Andy indicated one of the next adapters for the phone after the camera is car audio integration.
I wonder what that is?
My BMW uses USB storage so I don't even bother with the phone.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the adapters. If they do that, I hope it includes a 3.5mm jack. For a lot of people that's still the only way they have to tap into their car audio system.
I am pretty sure the 2 pins are just for power, and any wireless bit is through the 60hz system which is more than likely data only.
So no Wireless charging parse', but with the dock, it has fancy pin charging lol.
I do also look forward to seeing what else they use that expansion ability for. Heck If they wanted to add a headphone port to the phone how easy would it be to just build a slim plate that attached to it that barely is thicker than the port itself, but is a bit wider to include a nice DAC and AMP? Doesn't take up the USB port for charging and could have really good audio to boot. The possibilities are endless and unlike some of the other modular designs, this one seems to make good sense and not be an eyesore when not in use.
Wireless data transfer and wireless charging are not even remotely the same thing. Data transfer is radio waves with a transmitter and receiver. Qi charging is electromagnetic induction (a magnetic field around a coil of wire will induce a voltage in the wire).
Hi guys, is there a way to mirror the phone's screen to other display (let it be a monitor or TV) using USB-C->HDMI cable? Does it matter what cable to buy? Can you recommend one? Are there any caveats to this? Do I need to set the phone somehow or install some app?
Thanks a lot
It will just work from my experience...
I've also bought this thing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078X9N26D/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works as dex station if connected to power supply and as hdmi if not.
The only bug for this is that it slowly discharges your phone even if it's connected to power...
it works, you don't need a Dex pad anymore.
I believe any usb c to HDMI will work, but I would recommend using a wireless charger with it.
Probably better off just getting the dex station cause either way you go it would be the same amount of money cause I wouldn't recommend going cheap
I know it's ridiculous to ask; but would a NIntendo Switch Dock actually work? Considering it's similar, and the board can be taken to a Very small case, essentially, a mini dock

In Android Q beta, you can get DEX by using your regular USB cable with the PC
