The Google–LG masterminded device has all the hardware needed to make an example of the platform. After all, the smartphone is spec'd close to the Microsoft Lumia 950, complete with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset. The Lumia 950, however, has a Quad-HD resolution AMOLED display and more RAM memory.
Unfortunately, we have absolutely no idea where you can get your hands on a Windows 10 ROM or launcher for the Nexus 5x. The operating system hasn't been made publicly available, Microsoft won't be porting it to a non-Lumia device anytime soon (although Xiaomi handset owners might be in for a surprise), and the video is ripe with mistification as a whole.

Pretty interesting. Hoping more details would come out soon.
Interesting

This would be pretty cool in combination with multirom
Indeed it will. Dual boot is required >.>
Any information when it will be available?
It's in MS hands to enable it on any device isn't it?

Not sure why I would want this. Isn't Windows 10 dead on mobile?
Any news on this ? :fingers-crossed:
Imagine, Sailfish OS full-support with GApps and then dualbooted with this. Wow.
Download of this rom available ?????
Does anyone have the slightest idea on how they went about porting this rom? Did they just say screw it, and flash the rom from the Xiaomi Mi4, or would they have had to do any significant modifications beyond slight stuff, such as changing around build.prop and like files?

It's Windows. No modifications needed on a per-device basis. But you might need to replace the bootloader with a BIOS...

Are you sure? IMO it doesn't work this way on smartphones.

Sounds interesting but it could take a lot of storage though..

Ik that. But unless they've patches Windows to read kernel booting, then it would need a BIOS. You're probably right, it probably doesn't need that and can support it.
i might out looking for this rom for future
Windows 10 Mobile needs UEFI so...we don't have that here so we have to emulate it. Lumia 950 has the same SoC so it is posibile in someway to get it working on 5X.

Would it be possible to use windows 8 on our android phone like we made ubuntu work? or even make it a custom rom??
With ubuntu we pretty much just mount the .img and connect to it with vnc right? couldnt we do the same with the dev. preveiw of windows 8?
Certainly hope so. There is always virtual machines.
Or you can install teamviewer like some dumb people pretent to use windows on iPad and iPhone
This would be fun to mess around with if this could be done.
Well, once/if the ARM version gets publicly released, then it should in theory be possible.

I doubt it, android uses a totaly diffrent bootloader structure and partition layout to windows based phones, it also uses a diffrent file system, i wouldnt like to brick my nand chip by trying to format it in fat/ntfs

i think so, win 8 is so complicate to install it on an android phone
unless something very unexpected happens, it will be impossible.

From my perspective, android is still linux but a simplified mobile version..i guess that is why it was possible to port ubuntu to work on it.
As regards windows 8 ,i really think it is impossible due to the hardware specs nd libraries.
Windows 8 hardware specs have been released today and Engadget reported
Controversially, ARM-based tablet users won't be able to deactivate secure booting and (therefore) install another operating system. Clearly that's not gone down well with people -- and a straw poll of our editors agreed

Might be possible after win 8 starts supporting ARM.
Meanwhile have you guys seen windows 7 embedded compact which already supports ARM...is that a possibility on Android phones?!!

it seems to be impossible , coz maybe it needs to rewrite all base drivers, and i wonder if the hardware supports it.
hopeless....i think.

Tegra3 android is one platform already used for windows8 beta arm , which was seen on ces. so its possible, but sure all drivers needs to be made or compiled for arm cpu.
and it is said that bootloader will contain encrypted keys to boot windows somehow, i do not know the complete story here, probably a BIOS edition like on regular pc's.
hopeless, not at all. just look at iMac when it started on x86, we had their OS on non-mac's and their hardware was dualbooting win7/MacOS.
it will be just a matter of time, until someone do that, if you can run windows 95/98 and XP on HTC EVO 3D why not Windows 8?

As far as i know all this OS are running on virtual machine, so... it's laggy, it works only with standart drivers, so there is no any hardware acceleration. I think some people will keep trying to port Win8, but as other says, it can be very hard, mb cotulla can, he know Win7 embedded core, so it can be like Win8 core. And another one peace - as i know Win8 for tablets and PCs will be same, but WP8 will have another core part.
Jolla released it's Sailfish OS SDK some time ago and I'm expecting it to be ported on my Phone. Is anyone here to do this ?

I'm not really good at porting, but it should be easy. The 3 problems are
kernel
HW accel with GPU
Touchscreen
The first one is really easy since if you cannot run a Mer stock / customized UI, you can still take Android one.
For the second, it is the trickiest, but you can still use mesa-llvmpipe (no HW accel, but only software)
For the thirst point, it is up to the screen manufacturer. Some provides linux drivers, some do not. But for Android, it might be highly probable that a driver is provided.

We will check if it works. Maybe the support for the HW in the Nexus 4 is good ...
But for the Nexus 7, it is nearly sure that it works. Something similar (Ubuntu) were ported on it ...
Has Google still not been able to release all the source code for the Nexus 4?
Disgusting if so.

You mean Ubuntu for Tablets? If so then the Nexus 4 should also possibly be able to get a Sailfish port. They release Ubuntu for Phones on the Nexus 4 the same day the UfT port was released for the N7.
Bump.
It's been 9 months since the last post on a Nexus 4 port of SailfishOS. Has someone brought this baby to term? Anyone know if there's an ongoing effort?
There is no sources or devices released. Theres only the x86 based sdk. So what do you can be ported? The x86 sdk to arm cpu? Never. And the Sailfish ui is proprietary so sources wont be released. If you want Mer with the default ui, sources can be downloaded from the Mer-projects website

Yeah officially they won't release anything for a phone. But at the end of the day it's the same chip, so it uses the same instructions!
Here are a lot of people writing their own kernels, I would guess that's not impossible for them....

My first Android phone was a Windows Mobile originally. Never stop dreaming.
With the WPinternals project getting a reboot I hope for nice Lumia 950 XL ROMs, preferably a stock Android 7/8 with working cameradrivers.
Hello All,
I have almost a brand new device that working just fine, I want to know if there is anyway to use this device again ?
Not as a windows phone device of course but is there any upgrade/convert can be done to the device to make it usable again ? even as a entertainment device not a functional phone.
Thanks in advance
