If Huawei don't release sources properly to encourage development, as much as I like my Mate 7, I will never buy another Huawei.
OmniROM Nougat 7.1 experimental has just been released for my Oppo Find 7 which is older than the Mate 7 and will have a longer life than the Mate because of this. The Oppo never got official past LP but the community kept it up to date.
Huawei want to beat Samsung soon and are aiming at beating Apple as a phone brand. I think they will stay as closed source as they can get away with.....

The people interested in custom roms make such a small share compared to those who don't care at all, so why should they even think about releasing sources? As much as I wish for more customizability I don't think it makes that much sense for them as a company tho..

While its true that we are few in number, we have power! Androids GPL states that any OEM that uses any of the code must provide all sources. The problem has always been that no one wants to pick a fight with Huawei in China.
LeEco recently released all their hardware sources because they have started selling their devices in the US (directly). If Huawei tries to do so they will have to release all sources as well thanks to the GPL. So, anyone who buys a mate 9 might have CM14 or AOSP provided a dev is interested.
Let's hope Huawei tries to sell here. As far as the mate 7 goes..... Yeah, it's ****ed! Let's all just move on cause EMUI is just horrible!
If OmniROM were available for the Mate 7, it would be such a nice phone. I can only dream.....
I actually don't have a clue what will come after my Mate 7 and Find 7 are done with. I was thinking maybe a 1+ but the latest fiasco just reinforces to me that they don't actually give a sh*t about their customers and constantly make really poor errors of judgement. Not sure what else I would buy. Not a Samsung or Apple, that's 100% certain. Maybe I'd look more at other Chinese manufacturers trying to go global, maybe a Lenovarola? Wait and see what Nokia do? Maybe Asus will get their act together?
For boot emui 5 is necessary a phone with the same processor and the unique phone with the same processor of mate 7 is honor 6 and honor 6 plus

A few devs are already working on bringing AOSP (android open source project) based on android 6.0 to the mate 7. Once AOSP 6.0 is stable, it will be easy and quick to get android 7.0 stable.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. The few devs that are working on it atm are not able to dedicate enough time build a working ROM. If you guys want longterm support, I suggest you invite a dedicated dev.
A dev that can put in the required hours and release proper and timely updates. Those that are willing should buy an extra mate 7 and give/lend to a dedicated dev that will produce custom ROMs. This is XDA, it's not hard to find a dev that would be willing to do this.

i just wish there will be custom roms available in the future based on nougat. wishful thinking.
On emui website, we can download the emui 5.0 under the mate 7 selections. Did anybody ever try, and install it? If yes, how to do the installation?

Hello,
I'm reading for a while about Huawei mate 9 pro and found many reviews and comparisons which are very promising.
I really trust this forum and i became little worried when I couldn't find that many threads about it. So I'm asking people who used this device if they recommend to purchase this phone or not.
Appreciate your advices amd thanks in advance.

This is just my personal opinion and experience of the phone, im just loving the phone, it has extremely good camera that i use taking photographs in every situations, the low light photos could be better, but i think software updates can improve that part. There has not been any lagging, everything is so smooth and fast, also i havent had any problems with notifications, they work perfectly in every app i use. There are some bugs in the EMUI 5 software like font changing works only in english language etc, but i think those will be fixed in future updates. Battery life in my personal usage has been very good, usually at night time i have 25-30% battery left even i use phone very much during the day, anyway i would personally recommend this phone to anyone because it is very good phone and i just love it.
Yes, best Android experience I've had in a long time. And, I come from a long line of Samsung devices.
Thanks guys.

Best android around.
People who are after an Iphone built quality and super Android performance at 20% to 30% cheaper comparatively should go after the Mate 9 Pro .There is no similar package around.Dual sim and 128 GB plus 6 GB RAM are insuring it to be the best Android for the months to come regardless what Samsung will try to promote. That Phone is the best i had.
I also like the phone a lot ,the feature i was looking for most was great battery life on a high end device (had the S7 edge,Oneplus 3T before this one ) the battery life is amazing and this is the only phone that I do note have to charge to top up the battery during the day.
Buy it, no regrets.
that sounds promising
thanks guys for your reviews.
but don't you find it weird that there is no section dedicated for this device till now in the forum?!

my only complaint with my M9Pro here in the USA is that i'm still stuck on B124. check for updates through HiCare everyday and nothing. Called Huawei customer service and they say they roll out updates by serial# but I've seen around 2 updates so far that people are on which means that Huawei CS is full of it.
I hate when updates are super delayed. I love the M9Pro but I'm really missing my Nexus 6P because of this one issue. The lack of current security updates and such is nerve racking

Do you have any idea if we can root it and if it's safe?
as i remeber rooting marshmallow devices was affecting their performance and disabled certain apps in samsung devices

While I do know of this method and appreciate your assistance, the point I was trying to make was that getting updates shouldn't require us to jump through external hoops. The manufacturer needs to make updates more easily accessible and if they know they can't do that because of all the customizations they implement then they should consider just using stock android and build their proprietary apps to be Play Store downloadable and simply put restrictions that limits those apps to be installed on certain phones.
Why not just get the China version, works flawlessly on US networks + you get the updates.
U can delete the fitness app
sorry if this is the wrong place to post this..

Android O seem very impressive for especially the under the hood stuff and performance increase with running apps.
I am sure if Mate 8 Got Android 0 it would get a second life, it would feel like you would get kirin 960.

Personally to answer at all that.
I think Marshmallow was the best for the battery.
I've no issue with Nougat, except maybe like lot, the battery is less efficient. But I don't disturb with it because it works for the day. No need more. We shouldn't wait more of a phone with a big size. Say that 'O' could be worse with its consumption. Many new systems are less energy-consuming than their predecessors.
The only thing which will do that we won't have this new system, certainly, it's because the Android system doesn't do more than one or two update(s) on the devices. In addition, like it's a phone which is not followed, no one will develop unOfficial 'O' like LineageOS or AOSP on this phone. And I regret because this phone could work fine with this OS.
Sorry to say you! YOU, ME... WE had chosen the wrong phone to hope to have lot of updates!!!!
Until now, I was with Samsung Galaxy S serie, for that, this phone was really well desserved. Only thing which disturbs me was this damn knox. Now I almost regret it.

I agree franz , mate 8 is the perfect phone with almost of non related imperfections not pertaining to the phone its self lol. This is where the p9 kernel can be adudited and run Lin. If I could run mm with now let's say oreo animations ,boot , splash, shutdown like I found from a mate 9 fw for oreo ..

Personally I would find it very strange and also a brand suicide to not give Mate 8 Android O.
Mate 8 is still one of the most fast performing phones and have that reputation. It is a top notch device minus the camera, but not every one care about camera, it is the screen, speed of software and form factor that counts for me..and it looks damn sexy to I think (I recently modded mine to mocha brown).
I will say this if Mate 8 does not get android o I will not buy Huawei again..
In terms of Mate 7 I can understand, it still got , kit kat, then lollipop then marshmallow it was kind of a lot of updates...even though I personally think mate 7 would really had benefited from nougat and android o.
I believe Mate 8 get Android O (last update maybe). Huawei already working on new "O" system.
https://galagram.com/2017/06/kakie-smartfony-obnovyatsya-do-android-8-0/
Mate 8 should get O, because its a 64 bit processor. Android O, is built on 64bit.
I hope its module driven, that way, it'll just built itself by downloading drivers for the hardware on the phone. Updates would become very easy, and bugs with things like the camera could be squashed really quick.
I don't know if this is a reliable source, but it says that we will be getting Android O in November 2017:
https://www.gammerson.com/2017/04/list-huawei-honor-devices-getting-android-oreo-update.html
Well... Will we get Oreo? I couldn't find any info....
No chance. Huawei abandoned this model already.
I am hoping for at least the Wi-Fi Krack fix through Android security patch but I am not very optimistic.
What do you mean by wifi crack?
Do you have the same problem with slow wifi connection?
So few weeks ego we had Google announcement for next major version of Android OS and since ZTE in the recent past not had a good reputation of providing major software upgrade and support for extended time so what do you thinking all of you Axon 7 users?
Will we get the next software version or stuck with Nougat and that’s it and no more software support and development.
Keep in mind that Oneplus already announced that 3/3T will get Android O but from ZTE we didn’t hear anything till now.

I don't know shlt about custom ROM development, but why do you think that development would stop if ZTE stops making official updates? That is not the case on a lot of other old devices, for example without going too far back the Moto G 2 (2014) stopped receiving updates on Marshmallow, but pretty much as soon as Nougat rolled out, we got CM14. Even that old HTC HD2 phone got Android N after 7 years...
The only reason I can think of is the kernel stuff... again, no idea
I think it will get the update, the hardware is capable and the phone runs great so i don't see why not.

Oh, if only that would be enough for OEMs to continue releasing newer versions of Android for their devices. If that would be the case, almost all device generations from the past 3 years would get Android O, because the hardware is more than enough for it to run smoothly. My old Galaxy S1 (end of support at Android 2.2) and S4 (end of support at Android 5) were running Android Marshmallow and Nougat absolutely amazing and far better than any of their older OEM rom.
But on the Axon on the other hand: On custom roms as long as Daydream isn't running as fine as it is on stock roms, i am unfortunately stuck on stock and hoping for the good development community to claim that last hurdle for me to finally switch over.
Would anyone keep their Axon 7 long enough to notice whether or not O comes out? ZTE doesn't support Lineage OS, the radios are weak and unstable, the camera gets dust in it, the OIS burns out, Do Not Disturb still malfunctions, the Settings UI is incomplete, the microphones cut out, etc. Those with battery drain issues will reaching end-of-life soon.

no oem supports lineage, but you're right. they kind of promised to support cyanogenmod. weak radio drives me crazy, sometimes it loses internet for a few moments, i have this phone since january and have no dust in camera, and ois works well. tired of stripes in app in low light though. dont know about do not disturb. settings are complete garbage. generally i use polish language and phone is half polish half english.. that's a joke as i got it through official retailer in poland. about microphone - i got dirt in there, had to peel it off with a needle. same happens with speakers grills all the time. have no issues with battery though.
i think this phone might get android o, but sadly it might be its last update. and more sadly, the update itself might not be good quality

I'm not saying all the problems exist at once, but they're common and still happening. I just had ZTE clean the dust out of my camera and my radio frequently cycles off and on. Some people can't stop rapid battery drain even when the phone shows that it is not awake.
I haven't had an OPPO in a while because they don't have the right LTE bands, but they used to fully support 3rd party ROMs. Flashing and anti-bricking features were built into my Find 7.
After reading your posts about the radio problems and dust in the camera, I haven't notice no one of those drawbacks. So I'm in France and my career Bouygues give me a very strong signal, most of the time in 4g+ and no dust problem. I'm with the stock Nougat B04 (Android 7.1.1) and very happy with it.

I think the main reason to stay stock is the fact that there aren't any good alternatives. Pretty much all the posted ROMS have some deal-breaking bugs in some way or another. Pretty disappointed by the scene for this phone. It's a great device and I haven't had the issues discussed in this thread but looks like absolutely no one's interested in it. My only annoyance is the fact that they claimed how open this phone would be but it's got tons of nonsensical restrictions I've never come across before like not being able to set your own default dialer app without installing a custom ROM and outside app call recording does not work - which ZTE shows no signs of adding as a feature to their mandatory dialer app.

Yes, that is probably best if you've tinkered with the band settings. It can be a headache and mess your internet settings up. Try the suggestion I gave you after the fresh install. That won't be a problem if you want to delete it later.

If it would get Android O?, probably not, but I think they will give us a final 7.1.2 release before passing to work in the Axon 8 (or whatever the name is), and probably we would get some security patches every 3 months.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if they would do that, because pretty much all the versions of Android are similar since Marshmallow, and for me Android O brings nothing interesting enough to want the update.
ROM's are all based in Lineage, so all they share the same problems and issues, so for this phone, I would say stay in stock if you really want a fully functional phone.
:good:
I'm getting this device by the end of this month because, comparing to the Vodafone Smart V8, it gets the best bang for my buck at the moment.
I wanted to know if I could install Windows 10 on it, it doesn't even have to be stable working or all but since you can install it on a Xiaomi Mi4, maybe its possible to do the same on this device (yes I know the specs and the model are different).
Why install Windows 10? As a tech enthusiast, basically I just wanted to do it and see it could be done, nothing more nothing less than a proof of concept.
Would be nice if you could install it and dual boot but a geek can dream, question is, is it possible and has someone tried doing it already?
Thank you.
Nope.
I too would like to see it. But the possibility is slim. I don't think we would get an official Windows 10 ROM for an android one device. I hope someone manages to port it tho.
And the MiUi ROM from Xiaomi Mi 5X?

No way for Miui for now, and especially windows.
Very little people use windows mobile so there is little to none interest for developers, and has been droped by Windows itself.
