I think this is bogus. I wanted to go through sprint online but it looks like Best Buy will get my preorder. Attached is the convo with the agent.
That sucks...
I was hoping to preorder online so I could pass the activation fee and get it shipped to my door....
You can also preorder at Radioshack and you get $20 in free accessories.
I believe you can avoid the activation fee by asking them not to activate it and say you want to activate it on your own or at home worth a try?

You might get them to waive it if you call CS and ask, but if you either activate new service or upgrade and renew your contract, you will have a fee. The only way to not be charged one at all is buying it outright.

Anyword on if premier members will get this waived? I heard we do for activation fees.
And I guess I can't complain about the activation fee... my contract is only 2 months old lol. Added another line a couple months ago but my line is available for upgrade!

Dunno about premier members getting free activation, I'll see if I can dig that up tomorrow unless someone else answers before I get off work.

unfortunately only with a NEW t mobile contract. it says existing t mobile customers pay 199.

I got mine from tmobile for 65.00 no fees and free 3 day shipping. Just have to get the right rep, and be nice.
too bad they dont have a good deal witihout a contract...$599
Plus they add to your existing plan even if though you get a $25 discount it still seems to be more than you would pay going through T-Mobile.

Get it for $74 on a new contract then cancel and pay the ETF. Who cares...it'll be $274. This is assuming you have another account (number/SIM) that you'll use the phone for....

most 3rd party retailers (wirefly, letstalk, amazon) all have an extra ETF included with your contract. when you sign a mobile phone contract through them, you also sign a contract to them usually stating that you will not change your services within 180 days, any change will be viewed as a breach.
so if you cancel your contract you pay $200 to tmobile and $250 to letstalk. (not so cheap now huh). you should have gone with bing cash back while it was still there
Almost forgot, here is the link to letstalk terms of agreement

I am a what Sprint calls Premiere Customer and one of the perks for being one is that they waive the Upgrade Activation Fee for you if you order online at Sprint. Here is my question: you cannot order the Epic online at Sprint right now. You can, however, pre-order it online and pick up in store. So is pre-ordering considered as the same as ordering and so I don't pay that Upgrade Activation Fee? I called CS this afternoon, and nobody understand what I was trying to ask them. You guys understand me?

The activation fee is waived when you pick up the phone and activate the service automatically at the store no need to call. The computer will know you're a primere member and automatically credit the activation.
That's way cool. Good to know, thx.

That is completely false. Premier status DOES NOT automatically waive activation/upgrade fee. ALL customers can have upgrade/activation waived if ordered online. Premier status gives you yearly upgrades, "just because" perks, yearly bonus mintes or credit to the account, and a few other things. Premier status DOES NOT entitle you to any fee waiver.
Premier status absolutely does allow you to wave the upgrade fee. I called in and did it last month when i bought the EVO at radioshack. The CS rep cited that my premier status was the reason it was waved.

Again, wrong. The reason it was waived was to not run the risk of getting an "issue resolve NO" and losing their job. Premier status DOES NOT qualify you for having upgrade/activation waived, she just said that to make you feel good.

Thanks for that man, never knew about the Sprint Premier. I am about to switch from ATT for the new Epic 4g. From what I read once you hit Premier you get new customer pricing on a new phone every 12 months? Is this right?
New phone every 12 months however don't expect to get it for at least a year they say 90 days withan accoun of 69.99 or more but

Correct. Premier status is achieved after 10 years of service or an individual plan of $69.99 a month or more as well as family plan of $99.99 a month or more. It takes 3 months for "premier" status to be achieved once you switch to a plan of that price. You can have more than 1 premier line on an account if you have more than 1 family plan of that price or 2 or more individual lines of that price.

Actually, i hit premier status in 2008 after 8 yrs with Sprint, joined in '99/2000 (maybe it's now been changed to 10 yrs). Sent me some thank you envelope in the mail with all the bla bla bla. Been on an ancient $35 plan since 2002 (unl data/unl sms/8pm n/w/*voice command) till now (sucks i can't get any cool phones, stuck on Win Mobile Treo).
*voice command was discontinued by Sprint some years ago.

Now I am as confused as when I started out asking the question. So, you are saying that EVERY Joe Blow can get both the upgrade and activation fee waived by either 1) ordering online, or 2) just ask the cs and s/he will do it just b/c s/he is afraid of a bad customer feedback. So my Premiere status has nothing to with it?!?
If this is true, then I must say Sprint is very misleading. According to this when I log in my acc't and click on the link to look at my benefits as a premiere customer:

It explicitly says:
"To thank you ... We also waive the upgrade fee, and, if you upgrade online, you can forget the shipping and activation fees."
So, how about the free shipping it mentioned there? Does EVERY Joe Blow get free shipping also?

By misleading I mean that Sprint makes it sound like this is one of the benefits/rewards as a Premiere customer when in fact everyone can get the same. That's misleading.
Now, back to my original question. Since I am only pre-ordering online, would it still be considered as ordering online? The CS reps I spoke to yesterday said, "No" b/c I am picking up the phone in store (there is no option to have the phone shipped to you on the pre-order web site), then, I will NOT get the free upgrade and activation. Is it true? (I know you say that, it doesn't matter, if I ask, they will waive the fees anyway, but I just want to know what the "official" rule is.)

DirtyShroomz,
My phone is also a work phone and I just find out that, unbeknownst to me, the IT dept at work renewed my 2-yr contract back at the end of July when it expired. So now, when I get the Epic, can Sprint cancel the 2-yr contract I am in now and start a new 2-yr contract again so that I can get the discount still?
I bought my evo from best buy. After getting my first bill I noticed I was charged $18 for activation. I called CS and asked, "if I'm a premiere customer, aren't there activation fees supposed to be waived?" She asked me where I bought my phone and then proceeded to tell me that as of July, policy had changed and that only online orders for premiere customers would have activation fees waived. I had to point out that I bought my phone June 11. After checking, she told mine would be waived, well sort of. According to sprint logic, I am to pay the $18 anyhow, then they will credit me $18 on my next bill.
Sigh........
This is the soundtrack to the rEVOlution.

Hi Guys,
Quick question, i am a Sprint Premier Customer and my 1 year upgrade is coming up in September.
I plan on getting the Epic and have reserved one at a local Sprint store via online reserve site to pick up on the 31st or Sept 1st.
If i go to the store to pickup and upgrade my phone, will i be able to keep my current Everything Plus Referral Plan (Family Plan), with updated 2 year contract date? Or can you only upgrade Everything Plus Referral Plans online or via telesales?
I was not certain if this could be done in-store or not. I asked a Sprint rep in the store... but she didn't even know what EPRP was and kept referring to SERO and that they could not upgrade SERO to SERO for me.
So pretty much, i just want to keep the EPRP plan and extend the contract date with my upgrade in-store.
Thanks!

I could be wrong on this, but SERO was sprint's old name for the ERPR plan that you have. They changed it and got rid of the good deals that it used to have. I also think you have to wait til october 1st to get the epic 4g on an ERPR/SERO plan which once again are the same thing. Maybe someone else can clarify though, I am just letting you know the info I have picked up.
Hi all,
Welcome to Epic release day! If you haven't left the house yet to stand in line at the local Sprint store here is your chance to save a little money!
I'm a Sprint employee and the Epic is now available on the employee referral plan. (I'm an IT guy, not sales. I get nothing for doing this but the satisfaction of helping out other people ).
Here's all you need from me:
email: sal<dot>conti<at>sprint<dot>com
CID: 646
www.sprint.com/sero
Hurry while supplies last (you can also get the EVO there too, but supplies are running out!)
Please see the web page for terms and conditions. Offer is only valid on new customers or current customers adding a new line to their account.
ENJOY!
I checked it out, but it showed no discount, still $349
Wow, $249 after a $100 mail-in rebate. That's one hell of a deal, Sal.
He is referring you to the plans...
The problem is, you can't become a Premier customer on any of those plans.
They look like good prices for the plans, but I already get 25% off through my company.
Actually you do qualify for the Sprint Premier plan with the 4G phone plans.
Do Everything Plus customers qualify for Sprint Premier?Sprint Premier is our unique loyalty program giving qualified customers free gifts, discounts and upgrade eligibility every 12 months, among other perks. New Everything Plus customers will qualify for Sprint Premier after they have been a Sprint customer for 6 months and have maintained, for at least 3 months, a minimum monthly recurring charge of $69.99 on a single line or $99.99 on a family/share plan. For more information on Sprint Premier, click here.
But you automatically get an upgrade every 12 months with the referral program whether you spend the $69.99 or not.
How frequently can I upgrade my device?
Everything Plus customers are part of Sprint's New For You program and qualify for a discount after only 12 months. The amount of the discount depends on the length of your contract and the number of months you have had your current device. For more information on the New for You program, click here.
Like I said, the program details are on the webpage.
(for the record, as an employee I pay MORE for some phones than people off the street. And I can't even buy the Epic or Evo yet because of demand. I'm giving you better than I get myself )
...
Quick question: I already have a line of service, but I'm going in today to get a new 2 year agreement and upgrade to the Epic. Can I use this deal?
Thanks,
-Rob

Can't get "Plus" plan
Hi,
First off I'd like to express my thanks for allowing people to use your employee referral information. It's appreciated!
I went to the Sprint store (San Leandro, CA) on launch day armed with Russ's info thinking I could get the Plus plan for me and my Fiancé. The store clerk said that the "Plus" plans do not offer the Epic 4G and he could not sign me up for a "Everything data Plus" family plan. He assured me the account can be changed after the fact into a "Plus" account. Reluctantly I signed up for the regular plan after repeated assurances that the plan can be turned into a "Plus" variant further down the line.
Now how do I actually make this happen? I'm assuming it is actually possible as I thought given the nature of this forum topic. Can one of you nice Sprint people give me some advice?
Thanks!
I received my latest sprint bill today and here are the extra charges just because i upgraded to Note 4 on my Sero Account.
Device Upgrade Activation Fee $36
Sprint Surcharges $27.50
Are they allow to do that? i never pay activate fee or surcharge fee on my Sero account before. Did you guys get the latest bill yet?
I am expecting the $36 activation fee. I dont think there is a way around that but the $27.50 surcharge sounds ridiculous.

Here in Ca we pay tax on the full $799. But because my discount is from a credit union the $36 activation fee gets waived. Total cost was $164.
I had to pay about 40 bucks for my activation fee. So yea that seems about right
If you used Sprint easy pay then those numbers are correct.
Agree. If you EasyPaid your device that looks right. Although i work for Sprint. I'm not sure if you can easypay on a sero account. Also the note 4 is $31.25 a month.
Activation Fees are required by Sprint for any new or Upgrade Phone and normally is $36. i dont know about the surcharges but they always there!!
Havent gotten my first bill since getting the note 4. but on my "contract details" it shows,
Payments: 30.00/mo for 24 months
Payments remaining: 24
Remaining balance: 720.00
You can upgrade at any time once your device is paid off.
I'll see if it changes when i get my bill.

I didn't get charged the $36.00 upgrade fee, I never have with SERO.
I purchased the phone at a corporate store and had to call Sprint's business accounts number to have the plan set back to SERO while still at the store since the store didn't have access to the SERO plan code. Perhaps when the business accounts rep reset the plan they cancelled the upgrade fee at the same time.
