Project Fi and Verizon - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have a question. Was looking into Fi just for travel as the rates are WAY cheaper than big red. My question is it as simple as swapping sims to use both? Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance.

Can someone help me step by step how to get the media net att plan?

You bumped a thread after 24 minutes. It was still on the first 10. Also, some people sleep you know.
There's already a thread on this in the Networking Forum.
Maybe someone might be able to help you here and please do not bump this thread or I will have to close it.

Are you trying to get an obsolete plan or get a data plan that's for dumbphones?
In either case, it's risky. Practically speaking, the former is impossible and the latter is dangerous as there's no guarantee you won't be caught when AT&T checks the IMEI.
If you want to save money, it's easier to just go prepaid on a MVNO that uses AT&T's network. Straighttalk is very popular (I don't use it but I've heard many success stories) for such cases - the only caveat is that "unlimited" data is not truly unlimited, as you're "warned" if you use "a lot" (there's no definite answer of what "a lot" is) of data. There's another thread in this forum about this plan if you want to do some more reading about it.

So what's the deal with it being unlcked...

Can I just pick one from the US (my uncle stays there) and ask him to send it across here to India and put my SIM card and I am good to go??
Yes

If your network is GSM, it'll work. You may have to set up the APN manually to use 3G, but it'll work

Yes, here in India, there is only GSM... I mean CDMA exists, but hardly anyone uses it...
SO YAY!!!
Its just as easy as that? My uncle orders it from the Play Store, gets it, and sends it here. Then I just put my SIM and profit?

Nexus 4 in Japan

I just received my N4 in Japan. Currently I am using NTT DoCoMo for my service provider, but currently I cannot find an APN that will allow me to use data. I have tried using mopera.net and spmode.ne.jp as well as a bunch of other random APNs. Has anybody gotten one to work? Or has anyone had any luck with a different network such as kddi au or softbank?
Thank you for any help.

Can u ask your network provider to send the settings to your phone? That might be quicker than waiting for a reply.

I will try talking to them this week to see if they can help me. But it's usually pretty difficult to find someone that speaks English and understands what I'm trying to do. lol

Docomo are kinda assholes and don't let non-Docomo IMEI whitelisted phones onto their standard data plans, and they will charge you a decent sized fee for using a "Non-Docomo phone". So SPMode is out, if that's what you use. However if you add the Mopera plan to your data plan(costs about 300 yen a month), you can use the Mopera settings that are in your phone already.
To enable all this in English, just call their foreign-language customer service number. In Japan, it's toll free, 0120005250.
I got to learn all about this when I bought a Galaxy S2 in Taiwan a year or so ago. :crying:
So what do I need to do to get my nexus 4 to work in Japan? I will be there for the next few years
I'm going to my carrier today so I will let you know if I can get the data connection to work.
Edit: Just got my phone working on DoCoMo. All I had to do was have them enable Mopera U for an extra 200 yen a month.

So I'm in the navy and just picked up a nexus 4 while on leave. When I get back to Japan can I just walk into au and get a Sim card? Or is Docomo the only way to go?
I'm sorry, but I can only personally confirm that DoCoMo works. I would imagine that if you talk to someone at AU they will be able to help you out.

au won't work, so go for Docomo.
My issue is that I cannot import one of the damn things.

Looks pretty nifty, but I have nothing to do with armed forces... or America!
I'm still looking for a way to get one of these from either the UK or US.
I am using mine with softbank smartphone sim and iphone 4 sim. It works great. I get good H+ connection in Tokyo.

Ok...so I just got back to Japan from a few weeks of leave in the states, where I pickedup my Nexus 4.
I went to Docomo and they said they do not sell SIM cards by themselves, and told me I would have to buy a cell phone from them and then take the SIM card out. Are they just selling me some **** or is this true?

I have things shipped to my parents address in the US and they just rebox it and lie on the customs forms about it having a lithium battery. I've never once had a problem doing this in the year I've been here in Japan.
got mine from Australia, cut the SoftBank SIM, voice works but data doesn't. anyone else got theirs working?

Did you tell them you have a Non-DoCoMo phone? Got my N4 today and realized the SPMode APN did not work. I called DoCoMo and he asked me if I have a Non-DoCoMo, I said yes he said the flat rate will raise from ¥5,460 to ¥8,190...it is not pro-rated so I will wait till march first. If I say I have a DoCoMo phone they will know from the IMEI that it is not? Do they even check? Thanks
sorry havent been on this forum lately.

I switched to mopera.net APN and everything works fine. I love this phone....I'm using the Paranoid Android 3.10 ROM and it works perfect. Love the expanded desktop and pie buttons. Just wish I had the Japanese play store, I can't get the VS Pheonix dart app to install.

The best carrier depends on where you live. This one is better in that area in that one is better over there and so on. Then, just check the website of the preferred carrier and try to find a plan with a lot of mobile data and 4G. If you need, throw in some unlimited calls or something.

Or you could just go to a Verizon store and get one for free. Or call them and they'll send you one free.
