Need Big Help with 900F - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I have received Galaxy S5 from my friend. It's model name as SM-G900F under battery. Have Single sim port and one imei. But when I switch on starting with "Samsung Galaxy S5 Duos" logo and started normally. After that when check the product details on "About Device", Product Name as SM-G900FD. But there's no two sim slots. and also showing two imei's when dial *#06#. Seems to be someone has done something. So now I want to take it back to original situation. Is it possible? Needs to convert G900F. Please if some one can help me. :crying:

Im also a G900F owner and I've been in a similiar situation. Download and install Samsung Kies 3(if you hadn't yet), just as the first reply said. On your S5, enter the Download/Odine mode by pressing VolDown+Home+Power Button and connect to PC with your USB. Open Kies 3, go Tools>Firmware upgrade and initialization. In the pop-up windows enter your model name, in your case I suppose its SM-G900F. You'll be asked for the serial number of your phone which is underneath the battery. Its written something like S/N: .... If correct, Kies will start downloading the correct firmware. The process is pretty much automatical, so just wait
After it is done, remove the USB, and the phone will (hopefully) reboot into latest stock version.

Forget stickers and firmware model numbers, they can all be modified to look like a different model, usually G900F
If your phone says G900FD in download mode, then your phone is G900FD, or at least the board is

@*Detection* if it was hardware wise an FD it'd have 2 physical sim card slots, the OP says there is only one. In this case, download mode is wrong.....there's something else going on here. And before the OP does *anything* else I'd advise him to back up his IMEI/EFS folder, I've a feeling it's gonna be *critically important* that he does this......

@ *keithross39* hey sir, please help me on this.... :crying::crying::crying:

There are only three things we can be sure of right now.
1) It's not the FD variant simply because of the lack of a second sim slot.
2) It's not the H variant because the H variant wouldn't run the FD firmware.
3) Your device is ONE of the Qualcom quad core single sim variants.
Now....Here's the tricky part. You say your device has 2 imei numbers.....If you start flashing firmwares that are written to work with a single sim card, one of those IMEI numbers is probably going to get deleted.....If it's the wrong one, you're well and truly stuffed. So you need to find a way to back them up.
Most IMEI/EFS backup utilities require root access.
For now, you're going to have to treat your phone as if it actually *IS* the FD variant and find a root method that works on that variant.
Then once you have root, you can make that all important IMEI/EFS backup.
Once you have that, *then and only then* will it be time to think about how to return the OS to a single sim configuration.
Edit.....
This thread.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2829293
Gives info about rooting. But beware, if you haven't already done so, rooting will trip KNOX which will torpedo any idea of warranty repair.....
Edit 2....
This should help with the IMEI/EFS backup.....

1) Yes. That's pretty sure me too.
2) Not a H variant
3) Yes.
As I mentioned first post there's two IMEI numbers. But none of those not similar to sticker under battery compartment. (Not match with any of those)
I have rooted mobile using "CF-Auto-Root-klte-klteduosxx-smg900fd". And it's successfully rooted.
And I did IMEI/EFS backup using "Samsung Tool". Now what should I do as a next step?

First thing to do is copy that backup 'off device'......If you have a removable micro sd card, copy it to that.....If not copy it to your pc or even cloud storage.....it's no good having a backup stored in device if the in device storage is formatted in my next suggestion......which is to flash not only a firmware, but a pit file too. I'd suggest using sammobile or samsung updates for the 900F firmware (the F variant firmware is as good a place to start as any) and the resources of XDA to locate the correct pit file. You can check here for pit files.....
S5 pit files (3rd post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737448
But as it is now 3.52 AM where I am, I'm going to bed.....My kids will be up in about 4 hours so I need to get *some* sleep.....lol
Final edit for tonight......
As an alternative, you could forget about a firmware entirely, and go the custom rom route......just a thought.....

Never to date have we seen or heard of download mode being wrong, and CF AR for the G900FD just worked for OP
And if it turns out to be wrong, we both have a LOT of threads to edit when we have told other members to always trust download mode
To my knowledge, there is no way to reprogram the chip on the board to change the model number in download mode, maybe the phone is a fake
@ OP - can you post a photo of the back of the phone, with the back cover removed, so we can see the physical location of the SIM slot?
Edit out the IMEI etc if it shows on a sticker

I had the same issue while rooting my Galaxy S4,tried on every other laptop, different ports, cables and more but then I realized I was using the wrong file.
Yes,the international version comes with Bootloader unlocked so your bootloader is fine. Are you able to boot your phone into Download mode?I am sure u cant boot into Recovery mode, can you?
First go back and check your phone's model no and use the proper file and try again!I will help you, dont worry!
I deactivated the reactivation lock but still the same problem.I have Downloaded the CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar file several times same thing every time.My last chance is doing a full wipe of the system and then trying again.I hope orange Romania CSC does't have some sort of security block.
Frustrating thing is the phone is fully functional so i cannot ask for a replacement. And even after the dozens of failed flash attempts it still reads 0x0.
YES!!!Finally.A full wipe did it.!Thank you for your interest in helping me.

Before you wanna flash. Don't forget to uncheck reactivation lock, put off your external sd card. And look carefully for your modem and radio. Don't switch with the another kernel before official launch comes.

Help please, I have a (Note 3) SM-N900V on JSS15J.N900VVRUBMJE.
I bought it on Jan 12th ish, and took the firmware update as soon as I saw it because of some reading I had done.... shouldn't have done that I guess.
I am still totally unable to root this thing, Kingo, Odin v3.0.9. I am willing to do w/e (go back to older firmware even if possible)
I know there are no guarantees in this attempt, and would not hold you to anything, I have rooted every other android I have had and am very familiar with the process, any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated

so far so good, everything seems legit, but then i wanted to upgrade to lollipop so i downloaded the necessary samsung drivers, kies software, odin 3.09,

and as i was inspecting the error on the oden on my phone, i noticed
the product name on my phone is SM-N900A which makes no sense.
to further examine i went to the recovery and it shows
android system recovery <3e>
KOT49H.N900AUCUCNC2
now i am really confused as to what phone i have, the box, documentations, and with in the phone settings everything points to n9005. where as oden and "volume down + power + home" menu shows n900a
and
"volume up + power + home" recovery menu also shows n900a.
what should i do to upgrade to lollipop, what phone do i really have?
What does it say under the battery?
Did you buy from a reliable seller or could it be a knock-off phone?
There's an app on Play you could use - Phone INFO Samsung. DL it and run and see what it tells you.

So after a while of trying to flash different roms, turns out, it is a n900a, it is authentic, its not a fake, everything checks out, but the retailer was from hong kong, and they buy the phones on bulk, so the guy distrubuting the phones, has flashed the n9005 rom on to it,
after flashing the n900a lollipop, the phone has been working as good as it should, i have had no problems whats so ever, it just amazes me as to what lengths people would go to deceive and cheat the customers.
anyways, thank you for your replys, hope you all have an amazing time,
sincerely,
Ali,

just flash this,
it is the official android 5.0 lollipop for n900a (atnt). works like a charm, and if you have to, just disable all the atnt apps,
there is no difference other then the fact that it shows a atnt logo on boot.

Bricked 900A or maybe N9005!!?? Help
I do hope someone can help me. I have a bricked note 3 which appears to have been bogus for reasons the same as the above. Recovery mode States SM-
Official
Samsung official
But the sticker on the back shows N9005 and the serial is not recognized by keis.
I rooted it using let it rain and tried to flash a recovery to it which then failed and gave me an att&t warning when turning on. I then tried again to flash stock and it now gets to the Samsung logo and no further. I have never been able to flash anything with Odin due to fail (auth) at various stages. Was trying N9005 stock but having read the above tried 900 A From sammobile which also failed at the same point. Running out of ideas and patience, can anyone help? The attached was taken prior to me doing anything.
What model does it say in download mode ??

[GUIDE] Root & Recovery for SM-N9208 Marshmallow (nobleltextc variant ONLY)

After sending my Note 5 into a bootloop (first one ever in my history of flashing & rooting 6+ Android devices ... first time for everything but not a record I wanted broken!!) following a "guide" posted by another user here, I figured I'd try to throw something a little clearer out here for all us n00bs looking to rec 'n' root their rockin' phone.
IMPORTANT STUFF BEFORE YOU START!!!
1. These steps worked for the Malaysian variant of the Note 5. *** IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU. *** (In theory, it should work for any phone with similar basebands; but then again, it may not.) This guide works perfectly for Note 5s with the following specs (Settings > About device > Software info):
Android version : 6.0.1
Build number: MMB29K.N9208XXU2BPD4
2. I'm just an amateur trying to eke a little more mileage out of what is (by most standards) an already decent phone and because I do have a love (and patience) for tinkering around with this stuff. *** I AM NOT A DEVELOPER, LET ALONE A PROFESSIONAL *** and I take no responsibility for your phone bootlooping, getting bricked, bursting into flames, or infecting patient zero. Fixing your phone will almost always take 100^ longer than the amount of time you spent messing it up in the first place - terradune's law.
3. Samsung has gone out of their way to be extra douchebaggy this time by hard-baking in bloatware that can't be removed/frozen even with TiBu, such as Smart Manager (com.samsung.android.sm, which is not visible in TiBu). If you think that rooting is going to be the answer to all your bloatware woes on the Note 5 (as it once was), this is your only warning that this time, it won't be.
-- BEWARE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE --
-- LAST CHANCE TO EXIT THIS THREAD --
-- NO SERIOUSLY, I STAYED UP TILL 5AM TRYING TO FIX THE BOOTLOOP AND WAS SOUNDLY REMINDED WHY I'D BEEN SO WARY OF GETTING A PHONE WITH A NON-REMOVABLE BATTERY (my first, to boot ... ) --
Still here? Fine, here goes nothing:
GUIDE:
Part A - Rooting:
1. Backup, backup, backup. I started with a Note 5 fresh out of the box and updated straight away to Marshmallow before rooting, but if you didn't, then there may be apps / data you want to save & carry over. Once you're done with your backups (and have a copy of those backups somewhere safe like on your PC, in case things really go south), go on to Step 2 below.
2. {OPTIONAL STEP} Find and download the stock firmware applicable to your variant at Sammobile so that in case things go wrong, you'll have it close at hand to quickly restore your phone to working order.
3. At this point, if you're on Lollipop (Android version 5.1.1), you can decide if you want to update to Marshmallow. Because, in case you skipped the whole section of "IMPORTANT STUFF" above, this guide is for an N9208 on Marshmallow ONLY.
4. Head over to Chainfire's website and search for "nobleltextc".
5. Check (again) that your Build number matches the Build ID (MMB29K.N9208XXU2BPD4) - if it does, go ahead and hit Download.
6. Boot your phone into download mode (Power off completely, then press and hold Vol Down+Home+Power buttons all at the same time).
7. Extract the zip {CF-Auto-Root-noblelte-nobleltextc-smn9208} that you just downloaded into a folder.
8. In the folder, right-click on "Odin3-v3.10.6" (or whatever Odin version was included) and select "Run as Administrator".
9. Plug your phone in. One of the panels on the left side of the Odin window should light up blue. (If it doesn't, Google for a solution as you have an issue quite unrelated to this guide.)
10. Click on the "AP" button (DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE!!), navigate to the CF-Auto-Root folder and select "CF-Auto-Root-noblelte-nobleltextc-smn9208.tar".
11. Hit the "Start" button.
12. Wait for phone to reboot (this may take a while).
13. Enjoy rooted goodness.
14. {OPTIONAL STEP} Donate to Chainfire for being The One True Rooter of your Note 5.
Part B - Recovery:
*** If you don't know what recovery is, you probably don't need it. Rooting is often enough for most users' needs so you can stop right here unless you know what you're doing next. ***
1. Noblelte is the applicable TWRP version for the N9208 Marshmallow, so head over here and download {twrp-3.0.2-1-noblelte.img.tar}. There may be a newer version, but this is what's working for me. YMMV.
2. Go back to the CF-Auto-Root folder, right-click on "Odin3-v3.10.6" (or whatever Odin version was included) and select "Run as Administrator".
3. Plug your phone in. One of the panels on the left side of the Odin window should light up blue. (If it doesn't, Google for a solution as you have an issue quite unrelated to this guide.)
4. Click on the "AP" button (DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE!!), navigate to the folder where you downloaded {twrp-3.0.2-1-noblelte.img.tar} and select that file.
5. Hit the "Start" button.
6. Wait for phone to reboot (this may take a while).
7. Power off and boot into recovery.
8. Wipe cache and Dalvik cache. Reboot.
9. Enjoy your brand-spanking new Team Win recovery.
SOME DON'TS TO FINISH OFF:
1. Many N9208 rooting guides out there advise that you need an app called "CROM services" to unlock your phone, and that it is downloadable from the Galaxy Apps store. If you do a search in the Galaxy Apps store on your phone and come up empty (as I did), YOU (PROBABLY) DON'T NEED IT. Enabling OEM Unlock and USB Debugging in Developer Options is enough to allow you to gain root. Don't go Googling for the CROM services apk (as suggested) as the few sites providing a download link look somewhat dodgy and there is no guarantee that it would be a verified apk download of this app (translated: you might wind up downloading malware).
2. If you've followed this guide exactly, you have SuperSU and you DO NOT need to flash it separately (as some other guides advise). As such, DO NOT flash over SuperSU even if the TWRP recovery offers to do it. SuperSU was already installed when you rooted the phone in the first part of the guide above. (If you'd read the scrolling phone logs while CF-Autoroot was being installed, Chainfire provides the same warning.)
I hope that at least some of you Note 5 owners out there found this guide useful. Toodles!
Excellent tutorial. Works very well for Indian Note 5 Duos too
Great guide! Very detailed. I'm actually downloading from SamMobile the Philippine update for marshmallow. After the download I'll try to root it using this guide of yours and give you an update. Thanks again!
Edit: My build number ends in PE2 and chainfire doesn't have an auto-root for this version. sad.

This is my first time rooting too! And yes I used the root file for the build number which ended in PD4 (nobleltextc) while my phone was PG3. I used it because it had the same model number and the Android version as my Note. And I installed TWRP so I'm not sure how to check the Knox counter but a long time ago before I successfully got root I was trying to install TWRP and I believe it tripped the Knox counter. So if you're trying to preserve your warranty I don't recommend rooting or installing TWRP. I didn't have to worry about warranty so I did it. If you have any further questions just reply to this post. I'll he happy to help if I can!

Hey Hairulnuzams! So to add TWRP without root you use the same tutorial that the original poster of this thread gave at the end of his first post after the rooting instructions. That method does not require root but you will have to download Odin separately since you won't be downloading the root file. A WORD OF CAUTION: DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TRIP YOUR KNOX COUNTER! AND THERE'S NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK! I tried to do this after checking out many tutorials but it did not work for me. However after getting root it worked perfectly. So it's up to you to take the risk if you choose to.
Here's the XDA Developers page for getting TWRP: http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-twrp/
and here's another non-XDA page for using Odin: http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-using-odin/ ( I personally turned on OEM Unlock AND USB Debugging)

That's what SamMobile says when I try to download it. I can't pay $16.77 just for one stock ROM, I don't know what to do.
Try samsung-updates.com. Otherwise pay the $17 as it's far less than purchasing a new phone.

Samsung Updates has to legit be the WORST thing ever, it says 5 hours for a 1.3GB file (I have 100mpbs down.) I'll try this and If it doesn't work, *sgh* I'll just pay up

Someone is saying that flash is failing because it's an older firmware. How would I check if it's up to date?
The Straight Talk S4 only ever had the one ROM, thus "someone" has guessed incorrectly.

Well ODIN fails on AUTH
Have you tried a different cable? Have you switched to a different USB port? Did you make certain your drivers were installed correctly before proceeding? Any of these or all of them could explain the error you are having. In the meantime, please provide the following information.

Unfortunately, the fact the stock ROM won't install leads me to think you have a hardware issue. On a working device Odin would not reject the firmware intended for the device. At worst it would simply not attempt to replace the bootloader.
Truth be told, with the S4 being over four years old now, it may be best to cut your losses here and work on getting a newer device. In fact, in your position I would look on Swappa for an unlocked device from T-Mobile, then get a hold of Straight Talk and request a BYOD SIM.

I called Straight Talk, Tracfone, and Samsung and they didn't help me at all. Every USB cable, every port, every cable, every laptop, ODIN always fails. I guess I'm just gonna get a new phone, so RIP.
Straight Talk/Tracfone are noted for poor customer service when you call them. You get better results by initiating a chat session with them. Regardless, it's no surprise you got the brush-off from everyone. The phone is old, is no longer sold and is no longer supported by its manufacturer.
If you want to stick with getting Samsung devices from Straight Talk but the S7 on an installment plan is too rich for you, look to the Sky J7 as an alternative. Personally, I'd go the Swappa route and get a device that way.
The aboot.mbn file is the bootloader and will sometimes fail to flash if the OEM Samsung cable isn't used with Odin 3.07.
