Just picked up a S7 edge a few days ago. And have been trying to figure out the best way to transfer my photos and videos from my mac or iPhone to it.
I used a app called "Copy my data" that the store I got the S7 from recommended. It transferred over the pics and videos from my iPhone but everything was in random order and it clumped everything under today's date. (it didnt even keep pictures that were taken within seconds of each other, near each other)
I really cant have 4000 randomised pictures without any structure in the gallery application. Is there anything you guys know that would help me bring things over but keep the original picture taken/picture created date?
I have tried to hook up the S7 with my Mac and try to use Android transfer application but it wont connect. Also tried Samsung smart switch on my mac and it tried to load the iPhone backup but doesnt change from 0%, I gave it 2 hours incase it was busy in the background but it never moved past 0%.
Do you guys happen to know of any other method to do it?

I posted this in the Nexus one forum since this is the phone i use but have not gotten any responses in over a week. This might be the more appropriate section of the forum.
My gallery pictures have been disappearing by chunks at a time. A few months back i lost maybe 100 pictures. Starting at around 700, noticed some missing and was at 600ish. Today im down to 120's. I do not believe this is my SD card crapping out because i often use it for large files and they are fine, its an 8bg San Disk C6. Also the card is maybe 1 year old.
Has anyone else had any pictures disappearing? My most recent photo in my gallery is now dated at 7/8/2010. There were photos on here from 2008 when i got my old Fuze.
I had a buddy that went through like 5 Moto Droids and 6 SD cards because they were losing pictures of his newborn daughter. He wasn't too tech savvy so he just insisted android sucked and is now using a Rumor or something
So I've heard of stuff like this happening before, but I never found out what the solution was. Sorry.
Really, interesting, thanks for the reply i appreciate it. I was about to buy a new 8gb SD card just in case. I have not lost any pictures in the last maybe 2 weeks, its very random it seems. The only thing i do that is hard on my SD card is occasionally, a few times a week load like 4+ GB of files on and off a few times. Taking my work home with me and back to work. But i didnt think this should have any impact.
No one else?
I lost 100+ pictures and 10 videos on my EVO. It happened out if no where because it wasn't long before that I was looking at them. After a reboot, I remember that I tried to access the photos but none of the pictures or videos where there. I basically lost a lot of photos with very little warning, so I keep backing them up now. I still remember the gallery app going from 197 to 14 in the camera shots. This is the same 16 gig microsd card that I had on my Touch Pro 2, and I never had that problem.
I thought the sd card wasn't mounting, but I used Astro File manager and could explore everything without any issues.
I still have no idea what the cause was... Switching kernels, ROMs, radios, and factory resetting hasn't made the issue come back again, so who knows what the cause was.
Is this an issue related to rooting your phone?
I just noticed I lost about 12+ pictures and about 5 videos from my G2 after I just recently rooted my phone.
I double-checked with some file managers, connecting the phone via USB Mass Storage and the photos and videos just disappeared!!!
Can ANYONE help diagnose what's going on here?
Hello beautiful people.
So, what happened was, I recorded a video, i did press pause a few times, to keep the video in one file. The location would be on micro sd card.
After some time (some time did run by), then I somehow hadn't noticed that the battery might be running flat. NExt thing is, the phone shuts off/down. I was hoping that it did save the footage. But alas, the only thing I can figure, is that there are 2 files in a 'thumbnail' folder, sized 600-800 MB, these seems to be interesting because of the timestamps. A thumbnail can hardly be of those sizes ?
I copied them to the PC and renamed them to .MP4, however, because of a missing 'header' or something they don't seem to be playable, I checked them with IrFanVew, SUPER, and other programs. They don't seem to recognize the files.
And year, its the i9505 model, rooted, with hm, omega rom (v19 on 4.3 jelly-cream-cookie-icing-on-the-cake or whatever)
before the next 20 replies tell me to use search function..i have searched in vain for vast amount of time, and nothing seems to help.
I hope I have explained the problem well. I assume, as the video recording can tell the used space (I figure 600-800mb is the size used, or like 5-7 minutes in fullHD), that the footage is saved somewhere.
Would there be any hope in using recovery programs ? I haven't have luck using those in the past, as they find all kinds of junk (including tons of thumbnails and logos etc), and I suppose, the actualy <temporary?> footage isn't classified as an .MP4 video file.
What do you think ? The problem lies not in, forgetting to save the footage, or pressing the back button. the footage/ the recording may very well have been on pause, while the phone shut off because of lack of battery power. THough I haven't checked the battery, as I replace batteries, when one battery is low. WIth a dock, i simply switch out the battery.
Thanks a bunch in advance to any good tips and help you can come up with. If anyone has a good understanding of how the standard camera app works as for saving footage in terms of temporary file locations, and/or how to handle said temporary footage files, I'd be grateful. Maybe I can check up on whether there's any temporary files that hopefully can be converted in to working video viles ?
regards
aerobotix.
At worst
Hi. I recently tried to transfer a video from my Galaxy S5 to my PC but for some reason, the piece of scrap decided to lag and fail the transfer. From there it gets glitchy. I unplug and replug the phone to see if that fixes it, and I still have trouble accessing it to transfer the video. Eventually after 3 or so replugs I am able to get in the DCIM file and try to transfer and it asks me if I want to replace the file (200MB with 490MB) so I assume it failed to transfer 100% so I hit yes. Thinking it was successful without testing if it worked or not, like an idiot, I deleted it from my folder using the PC. Most people delete their files by mistake on their phones, but I deleted it through the USB. The next day I tried to open the video, only to find that it is only 4KB... somehow the transfer mucked up even more that it isn't even a partial file. I'm pretty furious as I recorded some once in a lifetime events so I've wasted a lot of time and money on some programs to try to recover that single video but so far have proven fruitless. I just recover garbage files that I have never seen before, either from ads or facebook... none of them from my phone's camera.
So long story short, a transfer failed, I deleted the file on my phone using the PC, Dr Fone, EaseUS, Recuva, Diskdigger have all failed to recover even older videos from my phone, is it even possible to recover it at this point or am I wasting my time? :crying:
My dad passed away last week, and my mom somehow (i think I know how) deleted her entire un-backed up camera dir of every picture she's taken for the past year, including dozens of pictures of and with my dad. For some reason none of her pictures were backing up to her google photos account.
I immediately put the phone in airplane mode and turned it off once she figured this out. no idea how long the pictures have been deleted for, possibly up to a day or two, but she has no idea.
The phone is setup with a basic root.
I've spent the last 4 hours trying various pc based software suites, dr. fone, fonepaw, and a few others with no success. fonepaw was the only one to find any data, mostly deleted text messages, and temporary files, but no deleted images, at all. which seems suspect to me since i know she deleted 100s of images... i'd expect to find a few deleted images.
I was thinking maybe i could make a disk image of the internal storage somehow 1.) to prevent further degradation 2.) to run data recovery tools against that disk image. I have no idea how to do make a disk image from a phone's internal storage though..
I'm also willing to send the phone to US based data recovery companies if anyone can suggest anything. These pictures are really priceless to us, especially my mother, who is besides herself for having lost them.
Have you tried recuva?
Data recovery may be the only possible solution. I realize these pictures have a high sentimental value, but your mom should be prepared in case they cannot be retrieved.
Lastly, I'm sorry for your loss.
This thread was started almost two years ago. Hopefully, the OP was able to find a solution.
This issue is not exclusive to the Note 4 and looking around the internet this is an existing yet unsolved issue on certain Samsung devices.
My mom's Note 4 has a recurring issue where pictures just flat out disappears (Pictures, videos, screenshots). No traces of it in any folders even with a different file browser. Issue happens again and again with no pattern or known cause.
2 months ago-ish (can't remember exact date) I told her to buy an SD card for it this time so if it did happen again, I have full access to the storage medium. I then set the camera to save to the SD card and let her use it as usual. Guess what, the problem happened again today. Only 8 pictures left in DCIM folder.
This time I took the SD card and popped it into my PC and ran Recuva recovery. I was able to recover a few intact pictures and videos that disappeared, some taken just hours ago.
Now I know that media can be recovered from the SD card easily I can now follow this phenomenon scientifically. I gave back the phone to my mom and told her to copy her pictures and videos to her laptop frequently.
I don't think this is a storage media issue since the same problem occurs even when using the phone's internal storage. She hasn't complained about loosing any game progress from any of her games.
I will keep posting on this thread for any updates.
Feel free to post below if you encounter the same issue, plus some other technical info.
Note 4 SM-N910C (Exynos 5 Octa)
Android 6.0.1, Unrooted
Kernel 3.10.9
Factory ROM, of course.
Sync issues?
Could the pictures be sync-ing to some cloud like Google Photos (or something else), and maybe there's a setting that deletes photos/videos after they have been sync-ed. I would start by checking settings-->accounts. Look for what is sync-ing where.
In any case, keep us posted.
Happened again. Older pictures and videos disappeared while the slightly newer ones were untouched. Still unknown cause.
So screw it. I gave the Note a factory reset.
UPDATE:
Happened AGAIN! Still unknown cause. Already did a factory reset previously.
No Google sync for photos, no Dropbox, nothing.
