Frost Plastic Bottom Discolouring? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wonder if anyone else has seen noticable discolouring of the plastic antenna cover (bottom of back) of their frost 6P? Mine has turned very golden. The CE markings are still very white.

Pic? Was it in a case?

That section of my Frost 6P is also a creamy/gold colour. It's spent some time in a case but mostly naked. To be honest though, I can't remember if that section of the phone was ever lighter when I first bought it.

Really weird Screen/Glass problem

OK, so i just noticed something really weird on the screen of my Nexus S. Towards the bottom of the screen, right under those 4 touch buttons where the glass meets the housing, i see these grey stains. The stains are on the inside and i feel like it's the glue that was used to install/paste the glass. I think those grey stains on the inside are all around the glass but i can only see them on the top and bottom.
Anyone noticed something similar?
Any suggestions?

The glass is thicker at the top and bottom. I think that is what you're seeing. I just looked at mine in the light, and to me, it just looks like the edge of the glass. Just the nature of the curved glass imo.
I had a bit of glue around the edges of my screen. I just stuck some Scotch tape around the edges to pull it off.
i took my phone back to best buy. the guy there told me that this is a pretty common problem not only with nexus s but evo 4g also. he let me check about 6 devices (not exagerating) before making an exchange and i was quite surprised to see all those screens with some sort of defect around the top and the bottom. i picked the one that looked the best and went home satisfied.

How is graphite holding up

So I ordered a graphite 6p but worried about scratches and thinking just keeping the aluminum and returning the Graphite one. Just wondering how everyone's graphite is holding up as far as scratching or discoloration is concerned. Also do you use a case or not.
I have had mine since Oct 28th and do not have a case or screen protector on it. I carry it in my pants pocket as needed but do not sit down with it in there. I have absolutely no scratches dents or glass issues at all. That said I never put the phone down on a surface without placing something under it first (napkin, paper, whatever). I also do not wear my any jewelry while using it. Safe to say I baby it and YMMV.
i have the black Adopted TPU Case over my Graphite 32GB N6P. i love the "Stealth Mode" black on black look. everything is holding up well. the case is super high quality IMO - even better than the Diztronic TPU Case i had on my old Nexus 5.

I have a VERY tiny chip on mine above the rear glass. It's small enough that I'm not sure if it came that way and I didn't notice or if I did it in the 2hrs I had it with no case.
Ok thanks guys i decided to go with graphite and return the aluminum one, just like the way it looks better, also i did already apply a skinomi body protector though

After a week and a half I have no dings or dents in it at all. Completely naked. Also some of the early reviews said it was a fingerprint magnet but I have had far less issues with it feeling greasy or printed up than I did with my N6.
2 weeks in no case it SP ,just kept in a leather pouch when not in use and placed on pouch ifnusing on table etc,not a mark on it looks pristine. But I do look after my devices

Cause of glass screen protector not sticking on the screen?

The protector does not stick flush to the screen on the bottom right corner and leaves halo effect. Tried 2 different brand name glass protectors, both had same exact issue. Any ideas?
Probably warped.

Seems to be a common issue with the 6p... Corners aren't flat. My tgsp wouldn't stick in 2 corners. Got a replacement phone for unrelated reasons, moved the tgsp over to the new phone and all 4 corners adhered perfectly immediately. Definitely the phone, not the screen protector.

I applied mine yesterday and it's perfect. I had never heard of the brand, but it's actually great so far!

Did you have the halo issue with other protectors before though?
I bought the same on in the amazon link above. Mine isn't sticking in the lower left corner, a good 1/2 inch, and in the lower right just above the corner in a slightly smaller area. I have been assuming its the cover, but perhaps my screen is uneven. I plan to try another cover and see how it goes.
Ok so I just tried the Yazoon and the isssue is definitly the device. RMA time!

Quality problems with the plastic part between screen and chamfered edges

Hi,
I have my 6P now for two weeks, and for the looks I'm rocking it only with a screen protector and a white carbon dbrand skin.
So I am pretty careful with the phone.
The problem is that the phone already shows signs of wear, to be more specific:
It already has notches in the plastic between the screen and the camfered edges.
The plastic seems to be very soft. The only possible scenario where I can imagine to picked up the notches is while having it in a car holder(also made out of plastic).
Does anybody else has the same problem?
Can you post a picture of this issue?
wish i could help but like above pics would help as don't know what it could be. Been naked and then to dbrands and have no issues
I can confirm these issues. I'm on my 4th RMA because of this issue. My first device has a chip on the plastic piece by the power button, second device had what looked to be the mate finish wore off and a dead pixel on the display, the third device had the same thing and a strong pink hue on the bottom of the display, and now I'm waiting on my 4th RMA. By the way if this one is messed up I'm going to stick it out with my first device because the display on this device is perfect! You can also see a big difference in the display from the RMA units. The panel looks black when off like my GS6 but the RMA's I've had looked dark grey when off and not black. The plastic piece that sits between the display and metal seems to be an issue Google is tracking so hopefully it gets fixed. I have a white 64gb 6P if that helps. I did have pics of all the issues because I had to send them to Google for proof but I erased them. Sorry

I have this issue with mine. That plastic strip that goes around the screen got rip or broke in my Nexus 6P is flimsy and is coming off. I had my phone from launch week 1. Does warranty cover this? Is some minimum but for my OCD this issue is killing me.

The plastic part on my phone came from Google with dents and scuffs in it.
I have this issue also.
The plastic is quite fragile. My damage was caused by the Google nexus 6P case...
Have pics but cant post em because first post.
The black rubber like piece between the glass and case is coming off on my Nexus 6P. I've had the phone in the Genuine Official Nexus 6P Leather Folio Case Flip Cover since almost day one, so I'm a bit surprised after about 2years of use Build Number N2G470.
My answer was simple to this. Wanted a black and silver nexus 6p and when I removed the back to change it I noticed how flimsy the plastic was and was dented and cracked in places. So I took a razor blade when the phone was back together and removed the plastic all from around the edges and it now looks slot better. I did try and buy a mid frame before doing this as my LCD was perfect. But couldn't find one. Much better look now and the phone now looks brand new again and my ocd is at bay. Lol.

Doesn't that plastic filler strip (between glass and aluminum chassis) act as a retaining ring to hold in the glass? I have not taken my phone apart, but that thin black plastic piece has broken in several places (with sections missing). I assumed it acts like a snap ring in the groove to retain the glass screen. Am I wrong? Is it just a for aesthetic purposes?
Does anyone know if Google recognizes this as a defect and fixes it for free? Or.... can I remove the remaining pieces and use the phone without it?
It doesn't hold the screen in. It's designed to act as a buffer between the glass and the frame to help stop the glass crack or smash if you drop it. It's actually part of the mid frame attached to the glass. Mine did what yours did, hence when I put the new housing on, I trimmed it down with a razor blade level with the rear housing and it made it look so much better, while still doing good the job of helping stop the glass from cracking when dropped. To be honest, once a case was on the phone you couldn't tell anyway, also Google doesn't see it as a defect, just part of wear and tear. I tried a defect claim and they said no as it was damage I had caused, even though mine happened from taking it in and out of my spigen case on a few occasions. Hope that helps.

Also, you need to slide a slim pry tool between that plastic and the metal frame to remove the back. It's not in a ridge its part of the midframe of the phone.

Aluminum vs graphite scratches

Now that the 6p has been out for awhile, I was just wondering how the phone looks if it is used naked without a case, in particular the graphite version. Does the aluminum show through the graphite after awhile ?
Aluminum I assume would hide scratches better since it is metallic silver. I like the graphite, but I'm concerned eventually it will have the color scratch through. Just wondering.
Mine always in a case. No scratches except around the USB-C port.
All water under the bridge now. If you order from Google you need to order a Pixel.

I figured most ppl have theirs in the case. I would get a nexus 6p from some other seller but I don't intend on using a case though. Just wondering if anyone had any scratch through the black issues. If I can't find out definitively I might just get the silver one.....id hate to buy the graphite then have the silver base aluminum scuff through after 6 months.
