Phone vibrates but wont show screen? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after i had sucessfuly rooted my galaxy, unlocked the bootloader and installed cm13 2-3 hrs later cm 13, starts to turn off the screen but stays working since i had it connected to pc and i was able to move files back and forth... now since i couldnt get it to stay working i decided to restore using twrp but after slidingto confirm the restore the phone immediately shuttled its self down, so i decided to flash stock rom which it did flash but with screen off while odin was doing its thing.... now when i turn it on i can hear sound but no image and for the screen to work i have to connected it to a power sourse first then turn it on but stays stuck on verizon screen loading!! so i flashed stock rom again but again same thing!! EDIT now afer it went past verizon screen it said set up wizard stopped working.... i have flashed stock rom like 5 times now..
Current status of phone: phone will turn on sometimes with visuals but most of the time you can listen to it booting with no visuals untill it reaches verizon and just hangs there, last time booted some kind of accecibility feature that telling me what the phone was doing at all times, just right after the verizon logo saying " set up wizard stopped working"
- i can access download mode and recovery mode sometimes with screen working and other times without it working so i might just be soft bricked maybe bootloader brick?

Flash stock firmware with Odin and immediately after flashing, wipe data/factory reset in recovery. Then reboot

This actually worked and booted the phone thanks man... however i dropped the phone and now when the screen do turns on but after couple of minets of usage like 3 minets the screen shuts off but the phone stays fully working, does this means that replacing the LCD will fix this? or maybe something inside is loose as a result of the drop?
Edit: actually after screen shuts down and i leave alone the phone shuts down completely and restarts when i attempt to push power or home buttons and after it restarts the screen is not visible anymore... so to get the screen to show again i have to remove the battery and wait couple of minets to put back on and sometimes this gets the screen to show but some times it doesn't... if i remove the battery and immediately put it back on this wont work i should mention

Try opening it up with a heat gun and checking for loose connections.

Phone stuck on logo screen

While i am a noob for Android/Smartphones, I am kinda a geek for pc's... With that in mind, I ask: Why doesn't someone create a program that can be downloaded and placed on a SD card that will run during a smartphones boot up that will start the phone in a "Safe mode" and allow users to fix them.
I currently have a Samsung that keeps freezing when the logo appears. I have attempted to perform a "Soft reset" but it still freezes. I don't know were to turn, so here I am....
I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong forum... Any help with were i should go from here will be greatly appreciated.
try charging it and turning it on....or try to repeatedly take out the battery and then turning it back on.....it happens sometimes one mine
You also could run a logcat to see where the phone is hanging.
Are you running stock?

will the phone go to download-mode? hold the volume-/camera/power for about 10secs it should get to a download screen so it can be reflashed, otherwise... well you know...
Sometimes this startup hanging happens for me & it will only boot w/o the SD card. Give that a shot.
This happens to me several times a month. The only solution that works consistently for me is:
1. Remove the battery
2. Wait for several minutes (Seems that some component needs to cool down, or capacitors need to drain, or something)
3. Then plug the battery back in
4. Reboot
i have found that when you hold down the Phone button for about a minute or so after you remove the battery , the phone will vibrate , do not remove your finger until the phone vibrates ...and it should boot from there.
Solution
I was talking to a tech rep at Virgin Mobile one day, and asked him if this was a common problem (knowing already that it was). Sparing you the details, what he told me is that when the intercept boots up, something gets jammed up with the 3G. And then the phone locks in the flashing logo phase. Now, EVERY single time I shut my phone down, I put it in airplane mode. It then reboots in airplane mode, and I almost never have a problem (meaning two or three times in the last 6 months). When is does happen, I reboot it again, and it boots right up. I presume that if need be, take it into a place with no signal and reboot it then.

Display shows Samsung title then goes black same when going into download mode.

First off I am running 4.2.2 on MF3 with root. I have no custom ROM, recovery or any other modules. This literally just happened 30 minutes ago. I've tried searching everything to no avail. My screen randomly went black (after setting it down for 15 seconds) and now it won't work. When I take out the battery and stick it back in the initial pop up is the Samsung name with an unlocked lock that says custom, this will pop up regardless if I press and hold the power button or do anything, which hasn't happened before. After that screen nothing happens as normal. I have tried to boot into download mode and I can get to the initial "WARNING" screen and then get into the download screen with the Android alien and before anything can happen it will go black. So this leads me to believe that is it either crashing or failing after the initial 20-30 seconds of boot sequence. I will also mention that when I have the USB cable plugged into both a computer and a wall outlet that it wont do anything even after i take out the battery and put it back in, try to boot into download, or just hold the power button. The computer won't even recognize that a device has been connected. When it is unplugged I can do what I previously mentioned. Please if someone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I am really worried that because I have my device rooted I won't be able to take it in for warranty and get it replaced. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanced!
Same happened to my phone
The exact same thing seems to be happening with my phone, however, my phone was not rooted. After installing KitKat (4.4.2) the phone was acting a bit weird and, all of a sudden, the screen went black. Can't turn it back on since then. The welcome screen comes up only after I put the battery in. After that it is completely unresponsive. I am also able to see the download mode warning before the phone goes off on its own, and the same thing happens for the recovery mode. I see the 'recovery booting' message, but then the phone turns off.
AT&T is has replaced my phone, but I wanted to get my data before sending the damaged phone back. As stated above, the phone is not recognized by my computer, so I can't access the data through USB. The guys at AT&T could not help me with the data recovery. If anyone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.

[Q] turning screen off crashes phone

I have the strangest damn problem on my phone. Sometimes, when I press the power button to turn the screen off, the phone just shuts down completely and then when I try to reboot won't get past my splash screen. When this first happened I couldn't get the phone restarted at all, even by taking the battery out and waiting for over 10 minutes. Everytime I tried booting it would go to the splash screen and then blank back off. It would do this once and then I had to remove and replace the battery just to get it to boot to the splash screen again. I thought this might have something to do with having a custom rom installed (sacs custom), so I played around with the phone and managed to get it in Odin mode. I then brought the phone back to stock. Everything worked so I figured I had fixed it, but then after pressing the power button one time I got back the same problem. It shutdown and would not restart past the splash screen. In retrospect, I think when I pressed the power button the screen did not immediately go off and so I clicked it a couple times in a row before it crashed, that may be what triggers it, b/c sometimes i press the power/screen button and it goes off without incident.
So, now I had the phone back to stock and had the same problem. It turned off and would not boot past the splash screen. By a stroke of good fortune I figured out how to get the phone booting again past the splash screen. When the splash screen came up, I started repeatedly touching and swiping at the phone; drawing little circles tapping at it, etc... When I did this the phone continued to load and boot up normally.
I installed AVG antivirus, to see if maybe there was malware on my phone. Scans showed nothing. I updated all of the software as well. I now have an app installed for turning off the phone instead of using the power button. This of course is not an ideal situtation, why should pressing the power button crash my phone like this??

[Q] Galaxy S4 hardbrick

Hey,
This is my first time posting here and really using the site. I have the Sprint Galaxy S4 and just updated to the SlimKat official build 7 and had no initial problems. A day later it starts to reboot constantly and would stay on for a couple minutes. Now it is stuck in a bootloop and will shut off even when going into download or recovery mode. When plugged into a computer the computer won't even recognize the phone and the phone will not turn on. The only time the phone will even start to boot is when it is not plugged into wall/computer and on battery. I have no idea what to do now.
That's a tough one. Usually with a soft brick, if you can make it to recovery, your phone can be saved but since you can't... I hope you get it working!

Go to sprint galaxy s4 thread. All answers there. You need Odin 3.09 then stock ng2 tar. To flash through computer.

I already have odin and the tar files for stock. When plugged into my computer it will not even register that it is connected and so I can't use odin to flash it.
The same thing is happening to me. I get to the Galaxy S4 splash screen, then it shuts off. Even if I try to boot into recovery
I'm going to pile on in here as I seem to be having a similar issue. I had my S4 (not rooted, stock rom) on my dock streaming google music. A phone call came in and the phone started vibrating like crazy and wouldn't stop. The screen shut off and the phone was still vibrating. Finally it stopped and was shut off. When I try to start it a few things happens. It will sometimes boot to my lock screen and the screen goes black and I think it is powered off. Sometimes it will get past the lock screen and then die shortly after. After like 2 or 3 times of that it won't even boot. It loads the Samsung screen but never gets to the Sprint screen or boots. If I leave it for some time shut off with battery out it will go back to booting to the lock screen then dying etc... When I press the buttons to get into recovery it says recovery is loading and then the screen goes black. I swapped batteries and that didn't do anything. I tried pressing the menu button or the home button to try and boot safe mode and it just loads normally not that I think that would help anyway.
Any ideas on things I can try next? What is this odin thing? Would that work for me?

Ok... I can get into recovery now and will try a factory reset. Are you sure you are going into recovery correctly. Apparently I was not. Hold volume up power and menu button and when the phone vibrates let go of power only.
Before I do a hard wipe is there any way to get data off the internal memory from recovery mode?
So I got a custom recovery installed, reinstalled stock rom, things worked ok for awhile. Then it started random reboots every 10 mins or so. Now it is back to instant crashing and rebooting. Any idea what could be the issue? I'm assuming at this point it is hardware related. Why can recovery and download mode run consistently without crashing but when an os is fired up it has issues? If it was a hardware issue shouldn't it not work across the board?
So I had Sprint replace my phone on the 8th. I have been using my same batteries (1 stock 1 Anker) and chargers (some stock some not) without issue the past 5 days. I rooted and installed xposed and some modules (original broken phone was never rooted and was completely stock). Things were going great until tonight when it started reboot looping exactly like the old phone. I switched battery and same proble. After I took the battery out and left it out awhile it fired back up but I'm afraid the problem will return. Is it possible that the battery or charger randomly are causing damage to the phone? I only have 14 day warranty on this replacement and need to figure this out.
So things were going well for awhile and then the reboot loops started up again. I did some digging and read that apparently Samsung phones are notorious for sticking power buttons and the symptoms were exactly what I was experiencing. I watched some videos online how to open the phone and clean out the power button but it didn't make a difference. I then read that squeezing the connector for the power button with a pair of pliers sometimes does the trick. Not for me. So finally since I'm not under warranty, have no insurance, and the phone wasn't working anyway, I just ripped the white plastic part of the power button right off. Well, that seemed to do the trick. Phone immediately fired back up without issue and has been going strong. I glued a small thin piece of plastic where the old one used to be and I am back in action. If my little plastic piece solution eventually fails or breaks off I will consider soldering on a new button but so far so good.
If you have tried everything else, and are looking for last resort, try cleaning the power button with some alcohol, and if that fails, rip off that power button! Here is the video that gave me the idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Glllc7bEJs and here are some other power button videos: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=s4%20power%20button&search_type=&aq=f&oq=

Phone not booting correctly but is still on

So i once took my phone to charge before going to bed and the next morning the screen was just black and the phone was "dead". The screen was black, nothing reacting. Rebooting was possible, but screen still black. I went through a whole night trying to figure out whats wrong and lastly i flashed the stock rom using the recovery tool and accidently ended up locking the bootloader with a non working screen.
Today the replacement screen arrived, i connected the new one, restarted the phone and still its just the screen lighting up a few seconds then turning off as soon as the redmi should appear. It does look like its not the screen but still something in the software. Is there anything i can still do to rescue the phone or is it just dead?
greetings

Try going into the stock recovery mode through hardware buttons (Hold Vol+ and Power) and try and factory reset.
