The Nexus 9 is now old and has been having smudging problems along with losing the coating. So how is you Nexus 9 back cover.
Mine has few scratches (hardly visible). The coating is still there and there are no shiny areas (when it loses the coating) other than two of the corners (very little).
I keep mine in a case so no issues. The back is probably the most satisfactory aspect of the tablet for me. I always liked the look and feel. The case makes it easier to hold, though.

Having a white Nexus 9, there's virtually no coating to come off. I have it in a rubberized hardcase though, which tends to rub off it's color to the back (very minor, but still noticeable)
Back cover lock not working after fixing camera. Really bad back cover plastic build.

Mine is like new, but I think that is due to the fact that I always keep it in a sleeve that I got from begoos on etsy. A very nice affordable product. If it's carried in a bag, it's in the sleeve. I also have the white N9 and I think it was less prone to smudges and wear.
Theese guys at Android Central seem to have a peeling issue http://www.androidcentral.com/pixel-c-versus-nexus-9-age-beauty-tablet-showdown . Also someone reported it on Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus9/comments/2o8jkl/not_very_satisfied_with_the_build_quality/
I had the white version and the back cover was mint when I sold it. Kept it in a case when travelling but naked around the house and when at the office.
I chose the white version as I didn't want the paint to start coming off the metal around the edges.

The black magic cover has rubbed a little color off on mine a few times, but a damp facecloth and about 15 seconds and it's good as new again!

Yupp, same here. The white has the more "premium" looking light metal rim, and the lack of a rubberized coating means no rubbing-off.

It`s a glass phone! It will scratch no matter how you try to protect it! Eventually every phone will scratch!
I don't use the OEM bumper but after a few days inside a generic tpu case, I also noticed scratching on the upper part of the chrome bezel. Inevitable in suppose, with dust able to get under the lip of the case and the chrome being so soft and vulnerable to damage.
I've been using mine since 18/12. Used a tpu case for 1st 10 days, and the original plastic protectors to date. In my pocket, on table, in car = no scratches to speak of.
Show some pics and let's see the evidence

I guess its normal, but damn it. You buy a case to protect it and it gets scratched.
Anyone else?

The silver bezel will scratch even with the utmost protection, unfortunately, these things scratch, you might want to look into screen protectors for the front and back and also use the bumper, that's what i have done and it's keeping my N4 pretty scratch free!

My apologies for not replying sooner. I've been busy with work and other things, and just plain forgot to post these! Oops.
Any how, I don't want to appear like a whiny baby who's blindly bashing the phone. I realize that chrome *anything* scratches readily. Be it metal, plastic, or whatever material you like. It's why I generally don't like chrome on anything I own.
But since you asked, here are some brutally horrible pictures I took of some dust underneath the lip of my case, and the marks it leaves behind. It's pretty minimal, but the phone is only a few weeks old, so I'm sure it'll get worse over time. I'm not worried however, because this phone will always have a case on it. And a screen protector, which I realize I applied too low. I wanted to make sure it cleared the lip of the case and wouldn't get peeled up.
Excuse the quality. I took them with my Gnex and a flashlight while laying in bed, so they're out of focus and the white balance is off.

As an addendum to my post, I'm sure regular daily cleaning of the inside of the case and exterior of the phone will minimize or eliminate this, but I'm kind of a wash and wear kinda guy. My stuff gets used and abused so I expect this sort of thing to happen eventually.
I won't mention what the Otterbox Defender did to the plastic bezel of my poor Gnex.
Wow! That's truly awful.
I feel your pain, esp as I keep mine in my pocket etc with no case for these last 2 weeks, just front and rear protectors that came with it. I have no scratches or marking at all. However, I've always made a point of keeping my phone in a different pocket to keys, coins etc.

I thought about maybe using some super fine polishing compound but you should be careful to not get anything on the display...
My bezel has some minor (really minor) stratches which can only be seen directly under a lamp, so everything is perfect for me (no bumper, protectors or anything, naked phone for 1 month).
But out of curiosity does anyone know if the chromebezel can be "easily" replaced? From teardown pictures I'd say it looks like it is not really possible or worth the hassle... I guess the whole frame has to be replaced which means new display or atleast display change with heating and all that fun stuff...
No matter what u do u will scratch the chrome bezel. Ive had a case on mine since day one an mine has minor scratches from dust. This is why i hate chrome on cellphones. U just have to live with it

Fork out some cash and get a decent screen protector. I do not have to deal with bubbles from screen protector for a long time. You can try Spigen or Skinomi. I use iloome tempered glass.
The texture of that plastic sheet that come with the phone isn't even very good for touch usage.
You can try watered down acetone to remove the paint maybe.

So................
Here is the story:
I dented the back of my HTC One and literally could not believe it. I had only had it for a week and im so careful with my phones.
So I tired a few ways to remove the dent without taking the phone apart. Like heating the dent up and then putting something cold on it. This helped a little bit however I could still see this dent starring at me. So I took drastic measures.
I tried to take the phone apart. This didn't work to well and I ended up scratching up the speaker grills in the process.
So now my beautiful new One has a dent in the back and scratches on the grills on the front. I felt like crying.
I decided to take the hard decision to try and cover these scratches up and decided to spray paint the grills matte black.
This is how it turned out:

Still have my dent, but I guess I'll have to live with it.

I have a slickwrap front and back skin coming so hopefully this will help.

I'm hoping some 3rd party grills will show up on ebay soon. Hopefully in black. Because it looks awesome.

Thanks for posting the pics! I also did this last night - partially because I messed up one of the grille holes while trying to clear them out, and partially because I thought it looked interesting. I went with a matte paint too from Tamiya (model paint). I like the matte texture to prevent smudges and it's working great for that (especially the top one when I put it up to my ear!). Cut a couple of pieces of masking tape to cover the sensor window and camera lens so everything works fine. I only put a couple of coats on so that the grilles still look flat. Turned out pretty decent I think
It feels very sturdy, has a very slight bend to it so it will flex and conform around the phone You would not be disappointed . This thing is super military grade quality.

All cut outs for the mics and ports are precise. Tough and built like a tank but fits the phone slim. It's not super bulky like other rugged cases.
Great price!
Buttons are very responsive.
Wireless charging still works perfectly fine through the case.
I certainly feel like my phone is protected from any drop with the raised lip above the screen. Drop test online all give me great hope that the phone is ready for anything.
Plus as an added bonus, there's a kickstand! It works in both vertical and horizontal. Perfect for S-pen family pictures and media.I will be taking the screen protector off though. I have a whitestone dome protector coming. So yeah no worrying about drops or scratched screen with the ArmadilloTek Vanguard Series. Highly recommended!

Does squaretrade require a fee every time you broke the phone?
The buttons on my Vanguard (purchased from Amazon) are stiff and difficult to press. They're also very difficult to locate by feel. I do like the rest of the case. And wireless charging does work with my ~2-year old charge stand that was originally purchased with a Note 8.

Hi I’m not denying it may look great in person, but getting new Aura Glow phone and then sticking this on top to hide it definetly defeats the purpose of the device. I don’t find it worth it.

I don’t get why all this “military-grade” case have to come so bulky and ugly, why cant they have something that will show phone’s beauty and at the same time provide decent protection.
