Thanks for reply, but I don't see any advantages of taking it off. Applying screen protector without bubbles is a hard procedure and I will do it only when stock protector needs to be changed.

ive had my phone since middle of january. i have it uncovered, completely naked, no case whats so ever, and my screen is perfect, without any scratches. and im not that careful
Fork out some cash and get a decent screen protector. I do not have to deal with bubbles from screen protector for a long time. You can try Spigen or Skinomi. I use iloome tempered glass.
The texture of that plastic sheet that come with the phone isn't even very good for touch usage.
You can try watered down acetone to remove the paint maybe.

Gorilla glass for me is very strange. It can be scratch by nothing. Really, I very careful with my phones (full covered case and so on) and when I found a big scratch on display I can't find any reason of it.

It`s a glass phone! It will scratch no matter how you try to protect it! Eventually every phone will scratch!
I don't use the OEM bumper but after a few days inside a generic tpu case, I also noticed scratching on the upper part of the chrome bezel. Inevitable in suppose, with dust able to get under the lip of the case and the chrome being so soft and vulnerable to damage.
I've been using mine since 18/12. Used a tpu case for 1st 10 days, and the original plastic protectors to date. In my pocket, on table, in car = no scratches to speak of.
Show some pics and let's see the evidence

I guess its normal, but damn it. You buy a case to protect it and it gets scratched.
Anyone else?

The silver bezel will scratch even with the utmost protection, unfortunately, these things scratch, you might want to look into screen protectors for the front and back and also use the bumper, that's what i have done and it's keeping my N4 pretty scratch free!

My apologies for not replying sooner. I've been busy with work and other things, and just plain forgot to post these! Oops.
Any how, I don't want to appear like a whiny baby who's blindly bashing the phone. I realize that chrome *anything* scratches readily. Be it metal, plastic, or whatever material you like. It's why I generally don't like chrome on anything I own.
But since you asked, here are some brutally horrible pictures I took of some dust underneath the lip of my case, and the marks it leaves behind. It's pretty minimal, but the phone is only a few weeks old, so I'm sure it'll get worse over time. I'm not worried however, because this phone will always have a case on it. And a screen protector, which I realize I applied too low. I wanted to make sure it cleared the lip of the case and wouldn't get peeled up.
Excuse the quality. I took them with my Gnex and a flashlight while laying in bed, so they're out of focus and the white balance is off.

As an addendum to my post, I'm sure regular daily cleaning of the inside of the case and exterior of the phone will minimize or eliminate this, but I'm kind of a wash and wear kinda guy. My stuff gets used and abused so I expect this sort of thing to happen eventually.
I won't mention what the Otterbox Defender did to the plastic bezel of my poor Gnex.
Wow! That's truly awful.
I feel your pain, esp as I keep mine in my pocket etc with no case for these last 2 weeks, just front and rear protectors that came with it. I have no scratches or marking at all. However, I've always made a point of keeping my phone in a different pocket to keys, coins etc.

I thought about maybe using some super fine polishing compound but you should be careful to not get anything on the display...
My bezel has some minor (really minor) stratches which can only be seen directly under a lamp, so everything is perfect for me (no bumper, protectors or anything, naked phone for 1 month).
But out of curiosity does anyone know if the chromebezel can be "easily" replaced? From teardown pictures I'd say it looks like it is not really possible or worth the hassle... I guess the whole frame has to be replaced which means new display or atleast display change with heating and all that fun stuff...
No matter what u do u will scratch the chrome bezel. Ive had a case on mine since day one an mine has minor scratches from dust. This is why i hate chrome on cellphones. U just have to live with it

No the screen for this phone is expensive. Around $130 from China, plus tax and customs and we are in the neigbourhood of 130€ again, the same if I buy it directly from the LG importer for my country, plus I won't have to wait a month to arrive..

With many (if not most) cases, when the phone is face down the screen is raised from the surface. So if your phone falls face first, the screen won't make contact with the surface. Obviously if the surface is very jagged then the display may hit it. The case (particularly dual layer varieties) also adds a little bit of shock protection that will help decrease the chance of shattering the screen from blunt force to other parts of the phone.

today I sent it to repairs, they couldn't give me any estimate of price, but when I hear from them I will report back with that info and when they repair it if possible I will also report final cost.
Only thing they estimated was that it is going to take about 2 weeks!

It had this kind of case, but did not help when dropped face down since there was some small rocks.

So maybe a gentle back and forth with a hair dryer and the steam could escape through the grill?
Just put the phone in rice for a couple hours, and you'll be good.
Thanks guys, I will try the rice tonight.
And definitely do warranty if that doesn't work, because that will be covered, don't mention screen protector (TAKE IT OFF BEFORE YOU GO IN) and be careful of hair dryer so you don't accidentally overheat or cause some other damage to speaker or sensors that would be troublesome to you or warranty down the line. I work for a mobile carrier, trust me, this should be an easy replacement as long as the water indicator sticker isn't red or pink.

all you need is 2 mist squirts of water, it takes very little water to get the film to stick. in any case, no need to panic, i wouldn't worry it will evaporate in a few hours.
I have the same problem what way did you leave the phone facing in the rice and for how long?
That's an easy fix. Just use a hair dryer and blow into the top little vent and you'll be able to watch it disappear

That backside doesn't look like mine for sure.
If this is an issue to you, return it to Sony or call customer service........very simple
Did you buy a secondhand phone? Seems like it was replaced
Looks like a screen protector. Can you feel the raised edges of the plastic sides or camera lens? If not it's most definitely a protector. All the replacement backs I've found have been frosted.
I admire the skill of the guy that put that screen protector (if is one).
I believe the back cover has been replaced since there is no sign of a screen protector. But what kind of manufacturer manufacts fake cover that looks nothing like the real one...
I replaced my back cover due to a scratched lens cover, which is glossy as opposed to frosted, so agree with suggestions that it could have been replaced at some point.

Ah, sorry didn't realise they were mainland UK only.
I actually had no idea it would be glossy until it arrived - it was a quick purchase so I could replace the plastic camera cover and get back to taking pictures without lens flare. To be fair though, all reviews etc. I've read all talk about the frosted glass back so I'm pretty certain on closer inspection that it is plastic.
Not a deal breaker personally, I imagine it won't shatter as easily and I have put a vinyl cover on it anyway. Came with adhesive already on it too which seems to be a bonus looking elsewhere, though I'm not convinced the waterproofing will be guaranteed with it any more. But Im not in a hurry to test that...
Finally got my glossy back in the mail and figured I'd follow up with y'all. Someone may gain knowledge from it.
Purchased from here:

It is a bit of a weird white compared to the frosted back but similar to the front.
It's glass, and extremely fragile. I cracked it taking it out of the packaging. It's probably as fragile as an egg shell. I'm still on the hunt for another to strip to clear and expose the electronics. If y'all know of any plastic ones let me know.
