App ops application to shut down all apps that "keep awake" - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had app ops on my N5 but here it's not working.
Want to disable location and keep awake for some apps.

I couldnt find a working one also, so just flashed purenexus rom, it has app ops implemented in settings

This is way too complicated solution. I just got the N6p and wanted to stay stock for now (but rooted to use some apps).

Good luck searching then, all the ones i tried didnt work as they should, including xposed

I am sure its a silly question.

What do I need to enable to stop the 4.2 update constantly asking me to upgrade now or later? Usually you can just have the option to skip it no?
I know my phone won't ask unless I search under software updates.
This one pops up on the constant and happy with 4.1.2. Not feeling the terrible reviews on 4.2 so just want to skip it for now or till a more stable one comes out.
appreciate any help.

[INFO] Stop OTA update nagging
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The suggestions in the reply above are the best but they all require a rooted Nexus. Until you root your tablet try on Google Services Framework in Settings - Apps - All column:
1. Disable Notifications - fewer update reminders.
2. Clear Data - forgets an update is ready but may just re-download one.
3. Disable GSF - stops reminders but breaks Google Play Store and others.
I use number 3 as JB 4.1.2 works perfectly.
I have got similar prob but I am on 4.2. hoping this will work.

You can long press the notification and go to app info and uncheck the show notification box as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really don't understand why its setup this way. Wish it was like my S3.
Not really wanting to root this yet, but if the above don't work, may have too.

I think that is the solution for unrooted tablets!

Android 4.3 notification issue

Hi. It seems with the new OTA that the hide notification option in Android settings doesn't stick on some apps. And the weirdest thing is that when I turn on my Bluemont, Tune in radio pro starts running and I get a notification for that too. I can't find an option or setting for this anyone else have a similar experience?

Don't you have a thread on this already?
I don't have one. Is there one? Maybe there are some answers in there. I did a Google search and didn't get anything but I'll look again.

Can no longer “check in" on FB

I know this sounds silly but it's actually really bothering me, mostly because I can't figure out why it's not working.
When I had my phone stock unrooted I could check in on FB.
When I was stock rooted I could still check in on FB.
I debloated, installed xposed and wanam, added a modded launcher and now I can't check in.
What crazy is I have done almost all the same changes to my wife note 3 and she still can check in.
Only thing we have done different is the debloating.
Curious if anyone else has broke this after debloating?
Thanks

And nothing else on phone appears to be broken. Gps is working for all other features
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Probably one of the apps you froze. If you get it figured out let us know. But not logging into FB might be considered a feature by some.

Is this via the FB app or browser? If browser make sure you haven't disabled javascript. I temporarily turn off javascript when browsing XDA so it doesn't constantly refresh but it also breaks things.
In the android app

Check if there has been a update since you rooted that may have caused it. And try the normal, if you haven't already, reinstall and who's phone cache.

Nobody cares that u stopped by Costco to buy toilet paper. Wutever broke that "check in" feature did u a favor.
...im kidding bro. plz dont take offense. I just love giving facebookers a hard time. having said that, I appear to be the only person in the milky way galaxy without a facebook account so maybe I should be the one getting cracked on. im also the only person in the galaxy that still has a Myspace so im sorta cool right??

No offense taken. Lol. It's not so much the Facebook app that is bothering me. It's the GPS that's bothering me

Hmmm.. I just tried to check in on my moto x and the same thing happened. That is really weird. It is starting to look like it's not my phone but something with my account.

Facebook has been having issues lately. My wife had me log in yesterday to check something and we both couldn't post. Intermittent posting issues.

Ok so I figured out out has something to do with my settings. Because I logged into my wife's account on my device and the check in ability worked perfectly.
Now to try and figure out what setting is messed up on my device.
:/

I found out this has something entirely to do with how I have my settings in the app... what sucks is I can't figure out what I've done. GPS works on all other applications on my device, just not on Facebook check in. So annoying!

Unable to install some APK files

I'm running rooted android 4.4 and have tried installing the APK for flash player as well as f-droid. For both I am unable to select the "install" button but only the cancel button. I had to use aptoide to install them. Installation from outside sources is allowed. Any input?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I had that happened before but with my MK808 Android TV stick using the mouse, I had to use the keyboard arrows keys to move it to Install.
I since changed the rom and it's working again. I don't know why it happen, but you could use "adb install" to install the apks instead.
Weird as it may seem, try to disable the Lux Auto brightness app, or any similar screen brigtness app, and then try...
This is from having an app that draws over other apps. Auto brightness apps like luxury and Velis could be the cause.

Go to system root/data/app and looking for .odex file. Delete the files and try to install back. Are you using Titanium Backup?

That happened with me when I was on PA. The issue was because I had Halo turned on

Hardware Privacy App?

OK, it is now out of control. I need to access Yahoo mail but here is one of the latest permissions just released:
RECORD AUDIO (Microphone):
"Allows the app to record audio with the microphone. This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation".
I suspect the reason for this is to enable voice search, but the above statement allows a whole lot more.
In the past week or so I have been seeing a lot of these ridiculous permissions. I guess the battle to monetize on your personal information is heating up drastically.
So, can anyone recommend an app that they are using with the stock ROM, rooted, that I can either selectively per installed app or permanently disable access to the hardware (microphone, camera, etc.). It would be nice if the app works with all other non-hardware related permissions as well. I see there are apps for custom ROMS (Xposed, PDdroid), but I really don't want to install everything on my phone from scratch again, and the stock rooted ROM does everything that I need.
Xposed with app ops. Works great. xposed works fine on stock rom

Thanks. Just installed it and works great.
I try to deny as many permissions as possible. Most apps work perfectly fine even though most permissions have been denied.

I was wondering about that. I actually tried this out on a few, and the apps kept on working. The only problem I see with all of this is that most apps update automatically and the authors are constantly sneeking in new permissions. This is going to become a maintenance nightmare. Can I at least prevent apps from automatically updating so I can check them out one at a time before I update, which would help out a little?
You can disable automatic updates in the play store settings. You'll just get a notification of new updates available so you can check them first.

Great, I never even knew there were settings in there.
Today I switched from AppOppsXposed to Xprivacy. Because in AppOppsXposed the apps were spread all over the place under different heading categories, and repeated under different headings in some cases, it was a bit of a pain trying to locate all the apps. Xprivacy is better set up in that regard, has much finer controls, several global settings options, and in most cases instead of blocking data it sends fake data, thus reducing the chance of an app not working or crashing. It was incredible the massive amount of things I was able to block, with no affect on any of the running apps.
