Unable to use USB Storage as TWRP backup location - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was going to do a backup with TWRP on my rooted Canadian S5 but when I got to the backup selection it gave me 3 options to where I wanted to store the backup. I tried USB Storage but the box won't accept the tick. It also has a box for SD Card but that won't accept the checkmark either. I don't get it. If the options are there why won't they accept the checkmarks ??? I am currently running Marshmallow on a Canadian SM-G900W8. If there is something I can do that doesn't require rocket science I'd appreciate the help.

[Q] Help me!! Problem restoring backup of encrypted phone

Hey all,
I'm stuck, at a loss here...
I have a galaxy S4 GT-i9500 and am now stuck unable to boot up through my encrypted phone password. Here's what happened in choronological order:
Encrypted the phone (My unlock PIN = "0000")
Installed cofface cwm recovery
Rooted the phone with cwm superSU v0.99
Backed up with external SD
Flashed pacman i9500 4.3
Rebooted and... it said something along the lines of "encrypted phone, needs to be reset" and it wouldn't start up, it only gave me the option of "reset phone" and it would just reboot it.
So I decided to attempt to restore my backup. It said "wrong MD5" so I took out the sd card, popped it into my computer, and was told to just have a blank nandroid.md5 file in the backup and it should work. It did.
So my backup restore is totally successful, but now when I turn on the phone and have to enter the PIN, my PIN is WRONG! I can't get into the phone now because the PIN doesn't work.
I really don't care about my backup datafiles, I don't care if the phone is encrypted, I just want a working phone again with whatever ROM is available. Can anyone shed some light on my situation? I really don't want to drop another $600 for a new phone.
Thanks

How to backup and re-format phone?

Hi guys,
I've had my Samsung Note 3 for years but recently having some issues with it so I think I'll just start again from scratch and hope this sorts out my issues. I essentially want to do the equivalent of reformatting a PC and reinstalling the OS.
A couple questions:
1) I currently have a custom firmware - the only reason is to get around the security settings of my old work (to access emails, you need to input password to unlock phone every single time). I'm not sure if my new work requires this for my emails - how do I check if this is the case or not?
2) If I don't need to get around the custom firmware for the above reason, I will go with the genuine firmware. Otherwise, I will need a custom firmware which allows me to apply a fix for the email security settings. I don't need any other custom features - I just need a firmware which is as light as possible. Suggestions?
3) I have over 1,100 contacts in my phone. I want to ensure I don't lose any. When I go to Contacts and Select "Contacts to Display" --> "Device" there are none - so I'm assuming that if I reinstall a new firmware, there are none on the device to be lost, and as long as I re-sync with Google/Samsung/Microsoft Exchange accounts, I won't lose any. Is this correct?
4) Is there anything I need to backup aside from contacts, images/videos etc?
5) My memory card is about 5 years old and sometimes plays up so I might get a new one just to be safe. What is the fastest version available, and what is the largest size you can use with a Note 3?
6) What is the process for doing a full wipe, and reinstalling a new firmware? I installed my current firmware years ago and have forgotten the process
Thanks a lot.
PS: Below are the details of my current firmware version etc:

Anyone used adb backup or Helium with s7 edge?

Widening audience.
This is for 100% stock unrooted S7 Edge from tmo.
I am trying to do adb backup and it just doesn't work.
I have enabled usb debugging, tried with and without desktop backup password but any time I do
adb backup
It tells me to confirm on device and nothing happens there.
Helium pops up backup password dialog but doesn't proceed beyond that
Anyone knows what's going on?
No problems here with Helium
Got Helium to work. Apparently, my device has trouble popping up some windows. When I hit back button from set backup password it showed Helium password dialog. After that it worked. Not sure what to make out of it. Probably subject of separate thread.
Still no luck with adb.

Before proceeding on activated new VZW Galaxy S7 Edge . . .

Hello group!
I have a question before getting started with my new phone
DETAILS:
from "About Phone"
Android version: 6.0.1
Baseband version: G935VVRU4API3
Kernel version: 3.18.20
Build number MMB29M.G935VVRU4API3
I have not yet entered my google credentials, no wifi access points, and the phone is in "Airplane Mode". I expect that a Verizon system update (to Nougat?) will start soon after I turn off airplane mode & enable wifi.
I HAVE on my Win10x64 computer, properly installed Samsung drivers, installed Samsung Smart Switch, did a test backup (settings only), enabled developer mode (phone) and turned on USB debugging (phone)
I'm upgrading from a rooted Galaxy S4 (running Android 4.3), and although I plan to root my new S7E in the future, I think I will run stock for awhile. Although I did no rom installs on the S4, (had safestrap & a small rom installed in one of the partitions, but rarely used it), I will miss TiBu for a while, Tasker advanced stuff, root options in the AutoApps suite.
I also understand removing bloatware is a little easier these days for unrooted phones.
QUESTION:
Is there any recommendation that I should do/save/copy/settings to this phone before I continue?
After reading the MM & N threads on rooting (great work) I believe I can root in the future using Odin, ADB, etc.
Actually, as I read this, I'm thinking, "This is a stupid question, the phone is unrooted, I can't provide anything useful to the group!"
But, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

You can try using smartswitch on your phone. Go to to the Samsung apps store and download smart switch. I think that will help you transfer stuff to your new device.
If you are wanting to backup your s7 you need to download smartswitch on your computer and do a backup.
it will save settings, apps, and other things for you.
If you are wanting to restore information onto your phone when you first set it up it should have mentioned something about a transfer where you would've touch the two phones together using NFC and they would transfer settings and other info.

Thanks zimgir124,
I did install the smartswitch on the PC, and it backed up both the S4 & S7 pretty well. It would not backup my sms though (perhaps because the file is huge, goes back to 2010)
As for transferring settings, the NFC transfer sounded interesting, but I chose to redo the apps manually. I really wanted to keep only my sms, mms, & call log, so I used MyBackup Pro (since I couldn't use TiBu) which worked splendidly.
Using 4g only (wifi not yet enabled), I re-installed many of the apps individually, & set them up from scratch. Then I started learning the ins & outs of Android 6. This is SO different from the 4.3 I am used to!
Once I was comfortable, I connected to my home wifi network. Sure enough, within 15 minutes, the phone was prompting me to download & update to Android 7.0
To this point, the phone is running very smoothly, and the battery life is pretty good. This is my first android phone where the battery is not user replaceable. I also miss the IR blaster on the Galaxy S4. I saw no reports of it being added to the new S8 (which is why I chose the older, less expensive S7E)
I read your continuing guide on rooting, and I'm sure I'll take the plunge (again)
Again, thank you for your response
Chris

Restoring Stock Firmware to SM-G930A from micro SD card, Where can i get the files?

Hey,
So I recently tried to root my SM-G930A a few days ago, and things didn't go the way i wanted. I missed a few crucial steps and bricked my phone, successfully un-mounting the OS but not installing the new one. I am a beginner/noob. But I do know a decent amount about computers and stuff. So I used Odin exactly the way i was supposed to, i think because i didn't activate developer mode and USB debugging, it wasn't able to install the new OS. So i have been trying to restore the stock firmware files to my phone through many different options. Odin couldn't detect my phone plugged in and Smart Switch was a dead end. So i have been looking to see if I reboot and restore stock firmware from an SD card, but I have no idea how to do it or where to get the files, so if one of y'all could reply with a link to a tutorial or a place where i can get the STOCK firmware files for the SM-G930A, that would be great:angel:
Thanks,
CaptainNoodle
