HELP!!!!!
Yesterday I was foolishly playing around with my MDA Vario and it fell from my hands...onto the hard floor. Now the display is cracked (mind you, NOT the LCD!!!!!Just the glasstop, digitizer, lense or whatever you call it). It still works perfectly but when I press with the stylus over the crack it just freaks out. End of the day: I can use it but I can't play with it. I spent AGES googling for a solution but apparently all I can find is LCD replacements (which actually DO include the screen...but cost 3 times asmuch). Anybody can help? please.........I'm desperate!

What a bummer!
HTC europe and usa are selling parts give them a call and see if any joy
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49361
and here http://www.htceurope.com/uk/
Ouch! I'd be kicking myself if that happened to me!
Hope it won't cost too much get it repaired
PS. Doesn't your Olympus C150/D390 have an upclose (or "Flower") mode? You'll be able to get clearer shots if you select it.
Got it repaired!!!!!!!For "only" 70 pounds... I went to a shop in South Wimbledon and they made it on the spot for me. As a matter of fact they changed my LCD too (they tried to put just the display but apparently there was a "ribbon color" problem). Nevertheless, I got my UNbroken LCD back as well, so now I'll try to sell it and make a bit of money (7o quids for a piece of glass is a bit toomuch, uh?).
Considering that after HOURS of research I had found nothing better than a 169 euro full repair (LCD+glasstop) -in Germany...- I reckon the £70 was not a rip off anyway. I missed a beat when I saw that crack yesterday, and I swore to myself I'd get my baby back in action...with less than 100 pounds. Mission accomplished ;-)
If any of you guys (AND I DO HOPE YOU DON'T) breaks JUST the LCD (but not the glasstop), let me know and we can work out a nice price for both you and me (I have a spare LCD now...And if you read till here you might be in need of one!).
my e-mail [email protected]
p.s. Thanx to the forum I found answers to ALL my queries...but how comes NOBODY before me broke his glasstop?!?Am I the only silly one who made it?? ;-(
ciao guys and thanx for your help anyway (btw: htc europe was USELESS and no, I have no little flower on my girlfreind's sad OLYMPUS camera!)
cracking and hacking are forbidden here in this site, so please dont crack your screen again
70 pounds are really tooooooooo much for a broken peice of glass, but what else can you do? you have to buy it!!! any way, congratulations you have solved the issue finally.

Sorry for your sceen!
Were did you find you "emule" skin?
Thanks
Seb.
I took my phone back to O2, I had no insurance, so i was expecting to have to pay to get it repaired (the girl behind the counter looked at me like i was insane to try and get it fixed "It'll be sooo expensive").
However when I went to pick it up a few days later, they gave me a new one, with new battery, earphones, stylus etc... for free!
The receipt simply said "unrepairable".
You have a great service in europe, I live in an arab country, once you crack your screen here they will say " you have broken your screen to get a new one, but you will never!!!" then they take your mobile to fix it, you wait for 24 months, then they say that they cant find the mobile, so they give you brand-used siemens A-35 mobile instead of the mini s, saying that "they have almost the same features. either accept it or go and kill yourself"
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Thank god, you live in europe!!!

Are you in jordan? I cracked, no better yet SMASHEd, the screen on my 9500 about a year ago when i was on summer vacation in Saudi Arabia. I took it to the warranty repair center and i just had to convince them that it was an accident. They gave the device to a very talented philipino guy sitting in a little cubicle, 15 min later, had my device with a new screen. 30 minutes later had traded in the 9500 for a I-Mate Jam(my first windows mobile device).

You are completely right, but do you know why did they do that with you? because you are not arabic guy, you are american. Lets be fair, the service in Saudi arabia is a bit better than the service in jordan, but when an arabic company deals with an arabic customer that cracked his screen, they will crack his head and kick him out of the company office.
Ofcourse, our companies are not as bad as I describe, but it will never happen that you crack your screen and they simply give you a new phone with a new battery, because they feel that they will look stupid.
Thats how our companies deal with us!!!
Hey guys...

where can I buy a screen for the Cingular 8125????
Hi. I called the HTC parts number listed above and they say they do not see the LCD screens, but only repair them. I have looked online and can only find 1 site that sells the LCD for the HTC 8125 (www.pdasmart.com) but they charge more for the part than it costs to send the phone in to get repaired!!!!
So far the cheapest way to to replace my screen is to pay $169 and send it in. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to replace my screen???

I presume we are the $169 site that you found. You can also order just the part and receive a 10% discount on the part. There is no warranty when purchasing the part only though. Simply put "part only - 10% no warranty" in the special instructions field of the order.

i sent of my phone with a keyboard that was sticking
due to me dropping marmalade onto it
anyway i told them, that the keyboard din't work, i was having problems with call quality, and there was cosmetic damage
t-mobile agreed to fix the keyboard for me, and that only
so i sent it off
an 2weeks later
it came back,
with a new screen, new mainboard, new case, new stylus, new batter, new battery cover
everything on it is new
so much so, then have sent me a certificate to confirm that my IMEI number has changed due to the ammount of work done on the phone
at the time of sending it off, it had a hungarian windows mobile 5 rom on it, as i couldnt find a english version at the time of downgrading
so t-mobile, reflashed it for me
so if anyone is with them, i would recommend if you have any problems
phone up
and tell them you want it fixing, and don't lie to them, just bend the truth a little, and maybe you will get as lucky as me
plus i was also told, all MDA vario's from t-mobile have a 24month warranty with t-mobile
=D
aye they did a similar thing with me. before i got into xda-devs i had some righ5t probs with me hermes.
well i took the first one back and then they replased that. cant remember the fault mind. that one went wrong so they replaced that and then this next one went wrong again! called them up complaining and apparently if they repair a phone 3 times you can ask for a totally different phone to replace it. asked how much the kaiser would be and they said 30 quid and could be with you tomorrow. i was a very happy man and now i got a hermes and a kaiser!
they never asked for the hermes back either so always a bonus eh.
so any you guys got any probs out there even if its tiny get on the phone to t-mobile. could soon have a kaiser for 30 quid!
I work for T-Mobile and it's HTC policy to replace rather than repair a faulty unit under warranty.
As long as the engineer who looks at it doesn't determine it as damaged they always send out a refurbished unit.
sweet
so new fone
an hmm, yh i think the screen is going a bit unsensative on this one
*wink*
lol kasier for £30 ull be my new years gift
haha
Hey guys,
I'm a little curious but, if you're still using your FIRST X1 (Not exchanged, repaired, etc) and it has no build issues (cracks) at all, could you please sign in here?
Despite the prices dropping on Amazon.com (From 799 to 615 USD in less than two weeks), I'm still very curious as to how prevalent this issue really is. So please, show me the light!
Cheers.
i got a crack-free x1 bought in denmark, importet from UK.
a week 48.

i have used it in about a month now, and bought it used, so a little over a month.
bought it onthe first sunday of feb. dun rememebr date, unlocked, no problems. production date 08w49
Bought mine in November in the UK .. not long after it was released .. nothing wrong with it ..
Mine is crack free...but the battery cover got lots of scratches.
bought x1a from sonystyle.com in November. Still good.
I'm currently still using my first X1 But not for long anymore. Mine will go into repair tomorrow (just finished reverting it back to stock ROM & SPL). I have a crack at the stylus (I could somewhat live with it as it wans't that bad), and since the end of this week a crack at the batterycomponent (which is no longer acceptable).
I noted all the information I could retrieve from the phone (Serial numbers, IMEI, etc) and marked the Micro SD slot with a pen, as that will allow me to easily recognize if I get a new one or that they will simply put a new back cover on my current one
Still using my first Xperia, got it November of last year ..thinking about getting it replaced though 'cause the keyboard's bugging out one me...
Guys,
Thank you for all the information thus far, please, keep em coming!
Cheers.
I bought black X1i used, it's from December I think. When I got it, the keypad already peeled of sporadically and some very very very minor scratches on the battery cover and the edge near the mic hole... But no crack... And judging from the previous owner, he probably a very careful and tidy person... Just taking a wild guess because the X1 have 2 screen protectors.
The keypad peeling off issue is very very minor to me, in fact, I'm in the process of completely peeling off the keypad outer covering myself. I already completely peeled off the leftward keypad and it really is much better without the coating.
If (knock on wood) the crack issue doesn't rear its ugly head on my X1i, I'll probably replace the casing sometimes in the future, when true wear and tear came up... But for now, quite satisfied, considering how cheap I bought it
im still using my first X1. some scratches on the side due to my recklessness.
thinking of sending to repair cos some keys are getting harder to press. slowing down my typing speed...
Got mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free, no problems at all. I'm just lovin it. Production - 08w46.....
Had mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free. I take the batter cover off all the time messing with roms and still no problems. I do use a PD air case. Production - 08w45
pretty sure its a UK version.
had mine since 1 mth ago, accidently threw my keys and phone into the same pocket... now a bit of the plastic from the dpad is scratched off... its like mona lisa with a massive pimple ><'' and some minor scratches on the battery cover... apart from that, no cracks, 08wk49 one
I'm also still using my first Xperia, and have had no problems whatsoever.
Go for it
I've had more than one silver Xperias to date
No problems so far
But reading other's stories now I undersand why SONY broke up with HTC...
("quality issues" they stated, and 1/3 of the forum seems to proove it)

gtrab,
Aye. From the looks of it, purchasing an Xperia will land me a 30%+ chance of obtaining a crack within a month. Considering the fact that the Xperia I intend to purchase is unlocked and without a contract, the costs of repairs will likely not be covered. One way or the other, I foresee SE giving me the big turnaround when it happens.
The risks are so high and the chances so slim to even find a problem-free Xperia. I'll give it a couple more days and see how the votes go. Maybe it'll change.
Cheers.
i bough an x1 from UK first week in november,so 3months old and some days, and i only have a crack where battery is.on the side.it is not anoying.otherwise it is ok,no marks and cracks.i have black xperia, week 48.
I Dropped my Galaxy 3 a while ago and the lcd cracked. i took it to a repair shop and it was replaced no problem. But the touch screen is not working in a specific place. on the uploaded pic, the red highlighted area is none responsive. it has had a new digitiser too. Any ideas?
Go back to the repair shop and tell them that the lcd isnt working ok.
he has it in the shop.. been there for nearly 3 months n he hasn't got a clue whats wrong. already paid £60 trying to get it fixed
To me it looks like the touchscreen (which is the think "glass" above the LCD) is broken. Really there isn't much you can do about it, as It costs a dime to replace.
EDIT: If you want, and if you're willing to pay for the postal fees, I could send you my touchscreen. I had my phone in the washing machine for a moment so It's not working anymore, but it worked for a moment after that, and the touchscreen was just fine. Contact me if interested.
That's what i don't get. Its had a brand new touch screen.. But thanks mate I'll let you know asap
just spoken to the lad at the phone shop. he has tried another touch screen but still the same outcome... any ideas?
Odd. Guess some component which controls it is just damaged then. :/
Or the guy at the shop is lying. (I've seen them trying to rip you off by telling lies). But yeah, you know this better as you've probably met him in person.
I bought the phone reasonably new off Craigslist as a travel/GPS phone in the summer of 2010 and it worked OK for six months or so. Then I decided it would be a good idea to re-flash it and ended up bricking it to a point where it would buzz when turning off and then turn off immediately. Fortunately, an e-mail to HTC later, they asked me to send it to their repair center in Texas and fixed it the same day they received it and sent it back. Not a penny charged to me and I didn't even think the phone was in warranty. I basically got back my old phone flashed back to default and it worked beautifully.
About nine months ago I went abroad to the Netherlands and the phone was working good as new with a Vodafone SIM card. It worked until December 2011 when I returned to the States, turned it off and put it away in a drawer. Before anyone asks - never dropped it, not a drop of water has ever touched it, it was working just fine. Six months later (otherwise known as a month ago), I traveled again, but now, having had my iPhone4 unlocked, barely had the need for the HTC. However, I am about to make a trip to a country where I will need GPS and won't have an iPhone data plan, so I figured I'd turn on the Leo and check that it was still functioning.
It wasn't. It wouldn't even register a yellow light when charging. Soft reset impossible, so was hard reset. My friend, whom I got the idea to get the HD2 from in the first place, had a couple of spare batteries and a plug-in charger. I tried both replacements (charged in the wall unit) - no dice. I called HTC and they called it an end-of-life product and refused to even have me send it in to get checked, so I took it to a repair shop and was told I would likely need a replacement motherboard. Checking eBay there isn't one damned thing called an HTC HD2 motherboard. So what do I do? What can be the problem and how can I replace the board? Is there a site that deals in OEM HTC parts or is there a part model I should be looking for? Or would I even be able to fix it myself without a soldering iron? I guess my other solution would be to sell it as is for the remaining parts, but it's a great GPS if nothing else, so I don't want to give up on it quite yet...

Insisting to look up on ebay will get you eventually to success, but a good working MB may be purchased up to 70-80USD.
Replacing it needs no soldering, but I wouldn't recommend to DIY if you're doing this first time in your life!
But if you feel confident(and a bit lucky), watching some good videos about, may help you fulfill this job.
Good luck!

If so, I'm interested in!
PM me, we could work it out...
Do you happen to have insurance on the phone? If you have a plan through someone like tmobile and you have insurance you could always file through them. You could also look for one on ebay that has a cracked screen or something like the charger port when up. That way you could get the motherboard you need. Just make sure the phone is in good condition otherwise. I know someone in the past had a problem and if i remember correctly they couldn't find it. I think but dont quote me that this was the motherboard..when it has the pcb board (printed circuit board) attached. Found here. This was years ago so please consult someone else before buying. Amazon also has a lot of parts you can order so looking there might be useful.
