Everything has gone crazy after the new Google Play Services update. - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So basically I'm rooted with stock rom and Elemental X kernel.
After the update everything starts crashing.
Gmail has stopped.
Google play services has stopped.
Chrome has stopped
Chrome Beta has stopped
Messenger has stopped
I cant use my browser or any of the above apps anymore. Everything just crashes.
Anyone else have this problem with the new Google Play services update?

I have been lookong for a solution all day nothing has worked. I flashed a backup from February with a different playstore version and all google services are still crashing.

is this with the new play services 9

I have the same problem, and for me it appears to be caused by xposed. As soon as I uninstalled the xposed framework, everything worked fine again. Not good, as I already miss my amplify, greenify, bootmanager, and snapprefs! Hoping for a fix soon!

Well I backed everything up and was ready to do a clean flash of the rom i was using, but first i removed xposed completely... Amd surr enough all the problems went away
I havent updated any modules recently. I have never had it cause problems like this out of the blue. I'm going to try a newer version later today amd hopw that works. I only run a few modules but i depend on them.

Any further word on this? I can't see anything in the Xposed forums. Refraining from doing any updates until I can get a better sense

I completely removed xposed and the issue went away. I then reinstalled all the modules i had before and everything was fine. It wasnt until i reapplied my Amplify settings from titanium backup that the issues reappeared immediately.
I dont know why this is. I hadnt made any changes to amplify for months.
So i just have the default amplify settings going for now and will slowly begin adding restriction to the profile anew.
I have never had a sudden xposed conflict like this.

for me it seems that amplify xposed module 3.3.7 is causing the problem!

No problems here, everything works. Up to date on the security patches and the framework. Icing wake lock is limited and have not experienced any issues yet.

Same issue was happening with me: google play services stopped working, gmail, chrome
I tried everything such as uninstalling updates for google applications, clearing data/cache, clearing system cache, and safe more to no avail.
I disabled Amplify in Xposed and the issue is now resolved.

What this guy said. Don't limit the Icing wakelock in Amplify. Something in the new play services is trying to release the wakelock when its not held (because Amplify blocked it). Play services should check to see if its still held before calling release, but we can't fix that easily.

Just piling on.
@romracer nailed it. The new version of Gapps doesn't check if it actually acquired a wakelock before they release it. This causes an NEP, crashing gapps. Bad programming on their part. For now, avoid using Amplify to limit the icing wakelock.
thanks,
Ryan

Justus updated to v84 Xoosed and all hell broke loose. So I am not so sure it is Google's fault. Everything seemed to be running fine on v83 icing wakelock and all. But releasing it in Amplify did fix things with v84

I to can confirm that De-Amplfying Icing fixes the problem.

The .zip for arm devices. Then go read the main xposed thread, as stated in the OP of the 5.1 alpha thread, and finally download the installer apk. Flash the .zip in recovery, reboot, install apk. Depending on your ROM, xposed may or may not work (Chroma is one of those it doesn't work on). It would also be smart of you to research what's working right now, as well as read the thread about fixing bootloops caused by modules.

Thanks for the info! That was helpful
YouTube AdAway and Background Player are working with latest version of YouTube. Greenify also seems to be working (I'll post back if I find any bugs with it). Here's a guide on how to recover from a bootloop caused by an xposed module.
Does xposed work with the require password to start device feature turned on?
I am using the following on Benzo Rom
APM+
Boot Manager
YouTube AdAway
XGELS..
Been waiting for xgels for what feels like forever, makes my nexus perfect when its working.

greenify is now working with xposed 5.1 horraaaayyy
Dumb question. I never used xposed before and I am trying to install it on the stock image.. It flashed in recovery and said success. Then I opened the apk and it says framework is not installed.
What can I do?
I have tried yet!
Wonderful

Contacts Force Closing

I just unlocked, rooted, installed viper, installed xposed. Now my contacts app force closes every time. Can't even open it. I have installed viper and xposed many times on multiple devices. This has never been an issue before. So I don't see those being installed causing it. I am completely stock otherwise. I tried wiping data and cache from app. Still a no go. Any ideas?! Thank you
Edit: I'm sorry I forgot I did install ElementalX kernel. Unsure how that would effect just my contact app
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
ElementalX wouldn't cause those force quits, a kernel doesn't have influence over stuff like that. Xposed may be your culprit, what modules do you have installed? Do you have any themes installed?

I would let the developer know in his thread, he may want a log. Just as a heads up, general rule of thumb when troubleshooting issues with Xposed installed is to disable modules individually then, if it is still not fixed, to uninstall it completely so that you can fully isolate the issues away from Xposed since it modifies a LOT of stuff.
not sure if it will fix it... under SuperSU app.... in the settings turn on "enable su during boot"... that usually fixes FC on my part

The fix will have to come from Google. This has happened before, we just have to wait until they release a fix. I opted for using Amplify (an Xposed Framework module) to block the wakelock, but that's not a fix anyway.
Thank you Adrianrff!
I have blocked SchedulerReceiver and SchedulerInternalReceiver services in MyAndroidTools seams it helped...
Credits goes to denon480 see this post
I do not know if it has any impact on system or functionality of google apps.
I tried to install xposed 2.5.1 but after Amplify module installation I have many FC cant even get in system settings.
What version of xposed do you use?

(HELP!) Dialer force closing

Hello, I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my ALE-L21, it's on 6.0 EMUI-4.0. Sometimes when I turn on my phone from a shutdown the Dialer Force Closes when i try to dial anything. Restarting a few times solves the problem. Anyone faced same problem? Any permanent solution ?
Is Xposed Framework installed on your phone?
Yes
Xposed framework is the culprit. Try disabling all xposed module one by the and see if the issue gets resolved. If not you may need to uninstall Xposed framework.
I used wanam xposed on B560. No calling problems.
huh....I will definitely try that, thanks for the help. But isn't wanam discontinued ?
Try this xposed framework(https://goo.gl/u0ZT3S ). On first boot dialer will create problem but after second boot everything will be fine.
Note. First boot may take upto 40 minutes. Don't panic just wait.
Please press thanks button if it helps.
Had the same problem. Only using a deodex rom fixed it.
---------- Post added at 08:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:44 AM ----------
Are you using stock B560? What modules do you use?
made for samsung? whats the difference ?
I am on B575, using amplify, assistant enabler, gravitybox, greenify, nativeclipboard, youtube background playback, one tap youtube. Also which rom solved the problem exactly ?
I had the same problem and solved it with just wiping cache and dalvic/ART cache
That solves it permanently?
I've used various deodex roms, Sokkoban's KANGVIP, V2 and HTCMania's Opteron and Nautilus, none have problems with Xposed
---------- Post added at 12:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:42 PM ----------
@Suleiman01 you used XPosed on stock B560? With what modules?
N-ify
YouTube AdAway
YouTube background playback
Native clipboard
Yes, that solved it permanently "at least for me"

Notifications bugged on rooted OnePlus 6T

Hi folks,
I've been having this problem with notifications for certain apps (facebook & discord in this case) ever since I rooted my OnePlus 6T.
In the case of facebook: notifications will come in after booting the app, maybe even twice.
In Discord's case: Notifications won't come in at all, and will come in after I've actually seen the messages or they do come in, but come in again after reading the message.
I thought it might be one of the Magisk modules I've installed, so I'll list them too.
Technical info:
Android Version: 9
Kernel version: 4.9.106-perf+
"build number": xXx_NoLimits_7.4a
OS: OxygenOS 9.0.16
Magisk version: 20.1
Magisk manager version: 7.4.0
Magisk modules:
App systemizer v17.2.2
Busybox v1.30.1
Debloater v17.2.1
Swift Installer module v4
Systemless hosts v1.0
Youtube Vanced v14.21.54(b01.40.20)
Substratum
xXx NoLimits 7.4a for OnePlus
I've messed around with the Swift themes and app systemizer to see if they were causing the problem, but no.
I'm not sure what other modules might be messing with the notifications, so there's that.
if anyone has an idea as to what might be causing the issues, I'd love to hear from you.
If not I might try to flash a custom OS and see if that works :silly:
(and yes I am kinda new to this all )
I know this is an old post and I see no one has replied. But I am having the same issue. Unlocked, rooted, using magical modules and only one app OfferUp is not getting notifications.
Did you ever find out what was causing this problem?

Hey Danny,
I never ended up finding the cause sadly.
I flashed Resurrection remix on my phone and that fixed all the issues.

Yes I read that too. I was going more for PiXen OS. I really like OOS 10, but it seems to be the actual problem. Was going to try factory reset, but I think it may be a waste of time.
I read on reddit and other places that this is an issue with OOS 10. I have read many have done everything from disabling deep idle sleep magisk module, turn off battery optimization, turn off adaptive battery and you name it..... Non resolve the problem.
Some say factory reset work and other not. What I have read it's a sure fix is going back to OOS 9.0.9 or installing a Custom ROM.

---------- Post added at 01:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:47 PM ----------
What's your opinion about Hydrogen OS?
Not sure 10 is the culprit, as OP was on 9, and I'm on lineage 16, which is 9 based. Maybe double tap to wake is the prob. I just turned it off. Report back in a few.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-notification-fix-100-t3865551
Notification problem solved by installing PiXen OS. Really nice looking Rom, easy to install if you are already on 10.3.4 OOS. Has stock camera, which was my concern and I will be installing the Oxygen launcher since I like it better. Basically it will be almost like the OOS, but with updated security updates and mod options.
No luck installing Op launcher. The only way is by downloading a op launcher port old version 4.10 and using quickswitch. The issue is that it doesn't switch to dark mode and goes to default icons after I restore my op launcher backup.
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ----------
I don't like the lack of options the Pixel launcher has. The only other option would be the Nova launcher.
Edit:
Was able to learn how to get the OP Launcher in PiXeN OS. The latest patchable version QuickSwitch is able to patch is version OnePlus Launcher 4.4.8. Its stable and it has Google Feeds automatically. So far its stable and everything is working as it should....... Cant ask for more, Stable custom rom with stock OP camera, gallery and now OP launcher.
I figured out how to get the latest OP Launcher 4.5.9 working on PiXeN OS. Everything is working great.
Just got OfferUp notifications working and it seems I am getting more notifications now. I did a couple of things, but I think the one that fixed this whole notification issues was installing a custom kernel.
I installed ElementalX Kernel and after that I got notifications from the apps that I was not receiving it. I also disabled RAM Boost from system settings. I did noticed better performance with RAM Boost disabled. I believe ElementalX Kernel improved my OnePlus 6T overall. I am in Stock OOS 10.3.5 rooted with Magisk and TWRP permanently flashed.
