I recently bought a used G2 (Verizon model) from a highly rated eBay seller. It arrived today and I began the process of transferring my number and activating my Page Plus sim card I would use in it. I popped it in and the phone simply won't recognize it. It keeps telling me there isn't one or that it isn't inserted correctly.
I was worried the SIM card was bad so I popped it into my husband's G2 and it worked fine. I did a hard reset/factory data reset with no luck. Tried leaving the phone off for a few minutes, reinserting SIM, then powering back on... Nothing is working. I have come to terms that this means the phone simply needs to be sent back, but thought I'd post here to see if anyone has had this type of problem? I don't know if any other info would be helpful so simply ask for it and I'll post it in an edit. Thanks everyone!
Oh and it is stock / no root / Android 4.4.2 as well

it seems like yes, the sim card slot might be damaged. or could it be that your phone isnt a vs980? a refurbished phone maybe another carrier. like d800.. i see lots of d802 that end up beign a d800 motherboard..
read this thread and see if some had the same issues as you do..

Hi
Ok so my phone was working fine on a custom ROM when suddenly yesterday an exclamation appeared next to the phone signal and stopped from receiving/making calls and texts. I thought it had just crashed but after soft and hard resets and changing to a few others sims I just can't get my phone signal back.
Really strange as everything was working fine. I now have trouble flashing custom ROMs and am struggling to run a stock ROM because I'm on a mac.
It's driving me crazy as my phone is now useless.
Any ideas guys?
thanks
Quick update
I've managed to get the Leo Lite ROM running and everything is good except that damn exclamation mark next to the phone to phone, which means I can't get the phone working.
Anyone know know why this is???
Have you tried the sim in a different phone?
could just be a simple issue
And I know it a simple thing............but have you got flight mode on?

Thanks for the reply John.
Yeah currently having to use the sim in an ancient motorola and it works fine, tested with calls and texts. Also tried turning on and off flight mode but still that bloody exclamation mark stays.
That sounds like its been blocked. Theres a network there it just isn't letting it connect. Did you buy it second hand? or off ebay?

Hey Sam
Do you know what, I did buy it second hand, from a reputable store in town.
However this raises more questions than answers;
1. Why would it be blocked after several weeks of normal use.
2. Doesn't some sort of message need to be displayed stating the handset has been blocked.
Does anyone know if this is what happens when a HTC HD2 is blocked? i.e. the exclamation being shown all the time.
I presume a handset is blocked for security measures like theft. I will take it back to the shop tomorrow, they will have all the details of the person who sold it to them.
However is there no way this can happen from flashing custom ROMs? Even though that doesn't really make sense cause I had a ROM that was working fine and this happened when I was out and about.
It could be a bad rom, but it certainly wouldn't be in every rom.
I think id try going back to the stock rom, radio and spl (i.e an sd card flash, do you now if it has a provider locked rom?) and see if it is still there. If it still won't work, then it's definately either hardware or network.
The reason it could have taken weeks is, , seller trades in phone for cash, waits a little while, thinks 'i know'..., reports the phone lost/stolen to claim on insurance, insurance won't pay out without the imei being blocked.

Well I've tried flashing at least 6 custom ROMs, all show the exclamation mark.
The phone was sold to me as being unlocked to all networks, however I never tried with anything other than a o2 sim.
Now going back to the original ROM has its own problems. First off i'm quite new at this so sorry for sounding silly. How on earth do i go about finding out what the original stock rom, radio and spl is?
When I have these I can't easily go back as I don't have a pc, using a mac. I would have to use the sd card way but I can't find an official signed .nbh file.
I have a brand new T-Mo US HD2 with similar issue (out of the box). It's like the radio will not initialize. Did hard resets, tried to force it finding a carrier, etc, and it just will not turn on the radio.
I did find out that there is a likely issue with my SIM slot. If I attempt to remove my SIM card (which works fine in other phones) it is almost unremoveable and feels jammed in. However, once removed, I get connectivity via wifi and touch response is great.
If I insert a SIM card, it takes a LOT of pressure to reinsert it (yes, inserting it in the correct orientation), and the phone cannot connect turn on the phone's radio. Also, I get random phone.exe and credential.exe error message (plus the phone becomes very slow.
Don't know if you have any of these other symptoms, but the lack of connectivity sounds similar.
Supposed to get a replacement HD2 today, and we'll see.
I had the same problem too. I got unlocked code from tmoile and everything working fine for a month. It was working great after upgrade the latest rom 3.14 from tmobile download site (i got the message from them to upgrade), until i went out off country last month then the phone could not turn the phone's radio on. It kept at airplane mode. I been try to flash back and forth all the tmobile .50 stock rom and still having the problem.
Does any one know the issue to fix it? TIA
Looks like a hardware fault. You need to open case and check bottom two brass hinges are in working order and correctly hinged to make contact with antenna which is on the rear case at the bottom.
Follow the guide of opening s HD2 on YouTube there is a factory guide to dismantling the HD2.

Thanks for reply xlr8me. I just check the two brass hinges at the right side of usb connector. It looks fine to me. The other thing i didn't mention on the above post I was flash the dft_leo_nand android after tried all the stock rom from tmobile and the android said "no sim card", i also checked and cleaned the sim slot. Do you think any thing else to cause that problem?
One more thing without the sim or sd card the about phone show up all info of phone: imei, serial..... But with sim card in it just blank when i read the about phone hardware info. Thanks again
Did you try simcard from another carrier?

Yes I did tried the sim from the carrier of the asia country i was traveling to last month, that why i call tmobile to get the unlock code before i go. When i was there and inserted their carrier's sim and it won't work, even when i get back to U.S. I been tried either tmobile or at&t sim too. The phone radio won't turn on. The rest is working ok except those above error messages "A problem has occurred with device.exe" and "Credential.exe".
Do you think i can reflash with WWE rom .50 radio instead of tmobile's official rom?
Thanks
htcphonelover,
You will have to reset the phone back to default rom from htc website. You may also need to reformat sd card but the radio should still work regardless of whether the sd card is in or out.
My only concluding thoughts are that if the above fails to work then try a different sim card and still no good then probably something with the motherboard on HD2.
Good luck and update us with any new info..
I'm not sure if this is a common issue or just an issue with my sim card.
Looks like the sim card just stopped working this morning. I can't make/receive any calls or texts and the lock screen says "Please insert SIM card and restart".
I've restarted about 3 times now and have tried removing and reinserting the sim card, with no luck.
I figure I'll need to take it into a T-Mobile shop to get a new sim card, but my Vibrant has been rooted and has a the Obsidian Froyo rom installed.
Should I just plug the SIM into my old blackberry and take it in that way for replacement?
Or is this some known issue that can be easily fixed?

I have had this happen to me twice. Once, the SIM went bad (it happens).
I called TMO told them that it's not working & they said they'd get me a new SIM. I had the option of going to an authorized TMO store or getting it mailed to me. I went to a store, they installed & it off I went.
The other time, I took some rubbing alcohol and a QTip to it & cleaned it up, let it dry, put it back in & it's been working for a little over a week now
So, I'd try giving it a cleaning first and if that doesn't work, give TMO a call.
If they don't know that you have the Vibrant and think you still have a BB, then yeah, I'd put it back in that rather than bringing in the Vibrant if you have to go to the store. It's just easier when the person helping you isn't trying to force you to change your plan at the same time.
Question: The phone won't let you do anything without a SIM card? If that's true, that's just another reason to be glad I SIM unlocked my phone....that would get annoying!
Old Tmobile sim cards actually have a certain amount of times they can connect to the network tower. If you use airplane mode a lot it you may reach this point quickly.
And some sims cards just go bad. Which I think is the case with yours tjhart85. Take the phone and card to Tmobile. Tmobile will change the sim card for free.
Yup, turned out the sim card just went bad. Called up T-Mobile customer service, they put a not on my acount, and went into my local T-Mobile store and got a new sim card. Phones working great now. They didn't even ask for the old one and didn't have to look at my phone.
Thanks guys!
I recently got my lg g2 d802 intntl
And I noticed my network seemed to drop a few times.
My network used to go and my phone stayed on emergency calls only for a long time
I rebooted several times ,pulled out the sim card etc
I thought it was a SW problem but I realized its happening due to a faulty sim card
Now what I realized was that the back of the sim card (the golden part) gets a 3 scratches on it every time I pull out the sim card along with the tray
And it gets worse every time I do it.
Anybody else have this issue?please let me know

why wud u pull the sim out so often?
Gotta love how this thread got moved to the development section coz it has a [D802] tag for whatever reason the OP put that there.
Your simcard might be old or too scratched up, either by this phone or another. I have only taken out the tray once to put my card in. I would reccomend you get a new sim card, usually you get them for free if you go to a store. If the problem persists, it might be something in the phone, if not, be happy and dont take it out every 10 seconds to check how scratched it is.

Moved to the Q&A section
Hi all, I have strange problem with my S4 GT I9505. I read various forums and searched but couldn't find a similar case to this strange problem. I am quite new to android and hope that maybe somebody of you would be able to help me or point me in the right direction to solve the issue below.
Issue
I had the phone unlocked from my provider O2 in UK and moved outside of Europe. My S4 accepted the new SIM card for the first 2 to 3 month. At this time my S4 was unrooted. Out of the blue it started with no sim card error, please reboot when using the new Sim Card.
Here is a list of all changes I done but it didn't help
- unrooted: Factory reset Kitkat, updated to Lollipop
- Rooted the phone as above didn't help, installed various custom ROMS, stock Lollipop, Google play edition. After I flashed the ROM I have for a short time network with the new SIM card but then it starts again with the No Sim Card Error. However, I have no problem with my original O2 SIM card.
- Changed SIM card, checked my new SIM card with other phones and it worked, so it not a fault on the SIM card
- Checked with my provider O2 in UK: phone is unlocked,
- Tried to open Service Menu but none of the codes worked, went to EFS folder/carrier/hidden menu and changed OFF to ON, still could open Service Menu to check if the phone was still blocked etc.
Any guidance how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Frank
Hardware failure. Replace the sim slot. No messing with software is going to fix that.

Thanks, I will try this next, hopefully this will fit it!
No reason it shouldn't, and it's arguably the easiest hardware fix you can do since the SIM tray isn't soldered to the mainboard. Just keep in mind the following: when you purchase a replacement tray, don't throw out the old one until you peel the foam pad off the top of the connector and attach it to the new tray. That pad prevents the connector from popping off the socket it sits in.

I changed the SIM/SD card holder today, however, I am afraid it didn't take long for the no sim card error to return. Only difference today, it connects to the mobile network again after reboot.
The strange thing is, I don't get the SIM card error when inserting the original 02 Sim card, only when inserting a none 02 card (phone is unlocked)
Would this mean that the motherboard is defect?
Most likely, yes.
I have an unlocked sprint LG G6 I got this past fall. I've used it as a WiFi device until now but wanted to make it my daily driver for a while. For some reason it isn't wanting to recognize sim cards.
I did a factory reset and it recognized my sim card then upon a reboot it no longer will no matter what I do. It just says no sim card no service. Another hard reset trying the other sim card fixed it again but once I restarted the same thing happened. Upon restarting it does give a message saying "The sim card tray must be fully inserted to help prevent water damage. Make sure the sim card tray is not inserted upside down" but it's inserted correctly.
Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas? Thanks.
have you found the fix? been having this issue since i bought it. hard reset works but restart does not! so if your phone is dead of battery, then you gotta do hard reset which is a pain to transfer data/reinstall etc..
No one has had any suggestions. I contacted LG who only offered for me to send the device in for repair which I may do next month.
