Galaxy Tab A 7.0 2016 Vs older Tab 4? - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I use the Galaxy Tab 4 in my product line that relies heavily on the bluetooth performance, especially SPP.
Tab 3 lite failed miserably with random bluetooth issues like disconnects, etc..
Unfortunately, I see that samsung is discontinuing, or has discontinued the Tab 4 line. But I also saw a brand new Tab A 7.0 model, likely its successor.
My ultimate question is, What bluetooth chipset does it use compared to the Tab4? is it the same? different? Worse or Better?
Any ideas? Thanks.

I wouldn't bother with that device anyway. Samsung have locked it down and locked it's bootloader.

That didn't answer my question. I dont give a rats *** whether the bootloader is signature locked or not as it bears no relevance to what I am doing, and my product line. This isn't about root. Besides CPU glitching could fix that, But I digress.
I needed to know its bluetooth performance, or what is the best tablet for the price that contains the same bluetooth stability as the Tab 4.
My application is mission critical on the bluetooth SPP profile, and I had found the Tab 4 met those expectations, whereas the tab 3 lite or any "lite" tablet did NOT.
any thoughts? Thanks.

Well I seen Galaxy A, I figured thats where it goes...
Sorry, Could a moderator please move it into the correct forum? That would be appreciated. Thanks!

Just to update, the bluetooth performance and range is total garbage. Now looking for an alternative...

A play store fix is provided which is helpful but installation of it is not properly stated in video and caused me to fail first time
corrections are stated below:
download es file manager, once downloaded remember to mount system as writable at bottom in settings of application
also download s3market files provided, i have never used other file provided for calender etc it has no use in mtk6575 versions of the device
store s3market on root of sdcard
copy files within one by one, not together to system location shown
install the com.android.vending-3.5.16.apk file provided in s3market.
fix permissions in properties of files shown
then reboot device
what i have corrected in the procedure will fix the stopped unexpectedly error 100% if done correctly in mtk6575 phones of this device
I'm curious, how do these phones compare to the real thing? I gave up on clone phones after receiving a very bad quality ciphone 09..
Visually Stunning, Functionally a failure...
Be Warned, the HDC Galaxy S3 especially from fastcardtech are not worth the money and mental anguish to get the thing rooted. They come with Gingerbread, and Locked, and full of Chinese Apps. Once you free of that, the Google Sync is limited, so you cannot get your mail, calender, etc synced. Then there is Colonel Zap which is mysteriously the only person in the world prone to be able to root these devices, but be warned again. Only unless you specifically know your Chipset in your phone, MT6577 or 6575, good luck with that, you should be wary of rooting per Col Zap, as in my case, there process bricked one of my two phones from FastCardTech. And don't get me going on FastCardTech, they are complete B.S., takes over a month to accomplish anything, then they send you the lesser model than you pay for. Doesn't matter all the FREE CRAP you will be offered with this phone, doesn't make up for the fact that is is just a great looking shell with poor electronics inside.
Look these phones are from CHINA, the specs offered online are fiction, and are burnt into the kernel of the phone,so it only appears that you are getting what it states online. you are only getting a phone capable of meager performance, NO 4g, 3g, but at lower speeds if your are lucky enough to fit the Mobile Frequency Spectrum the phone runs in, being their made in China, not a U.S. friendly phone in that aspect. Wi-fi is spotty, and the software is crap, bottom line you get what you pay for, and not many resources to get you through the hard times. Good Luck.....!! At least it looks like the real thing you can show off to your friends while they laugh at you.....
Specs do not match and support is very poor
I bought the "Ultimate pro" version from FastcardTech.com (as a new member i am not allowed to post the link) and it does not meet the specs given by them. The GPS took about 2 hours outside to determine my position. After a factory defaults reset i could not find the strength to do this again
The CPU is not the 6577, but the slower 6575. The camera quality is very poor. The wifi signal is very, very weak. (i have a very good and strong router) The sound quality of a phone call is poor. The 'gsm sound' disturbes the conversation all the time, as if you are to close to a speaker. When you complain to FCT, don't expect any customer support. They give to most strange answers and can give no specific support what so ever. After some time, they say i can return the phone, but it's allmost impossible to meet their requirements, so i am pretty sure that when the have it back, i will never hear from them again. (just read the customer feedback on any honest site)
Including tax, shipping and insurance, i paid about 250 euo's for this phone.
If i had known this all on time, i would not have bought it.
But on the other hand, the responsiveness and quality of the screen is good. Gaming goes smooth and after countless factory defaults, i have managed to turn off most Chinise apps, without losing the nice 'Samsung startscreen'.
All together is not such a bad phone after all, but its not what i counted on in the first place.
Now i am curious about if there will be any tweaks possible. Rooting, custom firmware etc...
I am willing to help if possible.
Kind regards,
Coupedevil

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. It's disappointing to read how unprofessional some of these shops are It's one thing when they mess up the specs on pre-release products but this shouldn't happen with a phone that has been available for so long. Looks to me like they simply sent the wrong phone to begin with. Their lack of knowledge of even FCE-level English makes it so much worse
I'm looking at chinastore-online to get the Jiayu G2+. The shop at least claims some customer-friendly terms, but so far I've yet to hear from anyone who made a purchase there.
So hang on you've bought an obvious Chinese knock off and your surprised to find its crap? If your interested I can do you a great price on some magic beans (cash or bank transfer only).

I have this galaxy s3 mt6575 clone, same as in the pictures in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178
I also had troubles getting the gps to work and started to think it didnt work at all.
But lately I have managed to get some gps signal to work.
I did flash the cwm recovery and have now installed the Lewa rom for it.
google "LeWa For Samsung Galaxy S3 MTK6575" to find the rom if you want to try.
Not sure if it was that rom that made the gps work or not, because I also did install an app named GPS Booster, as well as the u-center gps test app, and the GPS Test app.
Now I get enaugh signal to get my position. But the antenna is weak I think, so I need to be outdoor and have clear weather and clear view to the sky to get it to work. I did not test it in the car yet, but I think it might be to weak to work reliably inside the car.
i just bought the MTK6577 (s3 mimic)

what rom will work at this device?

Galaxy Tab 7 as a phone?

Hey all,
I am considering purchasing the Samsung P6800 Galaxy Tab 7.7 Plus Android 3.2 WCDMA Tablet Phone w/7.7" Capacitive - Grey (16GB) to use as my primary cell device. I would be getting the European model, so whether or not I could use it for calls is not an issue. However, I am a bit concerned that carrying around such a bulky device and a bluetooth headset to boot would be a bit much. So the question is: Should I use it for calls? Has anyone tried this before? Does anyone who uses one of these on a regular basis have anything to say about its bulk?
Thanks!

Please post your questions in the right forum, you'll get the response you need. This forum is the Galaxy Tab 10.1, has nothing to do with the 7.
it can be as a phone, but it may be a little big. Sometimes it's not convenient.

The speed of this tablet is amazing, I have yet to find any lag, I seen some people complain about Samsungs touchwiz as being slow and buggy, I found that out on my Galaxy S4G, but that is not a problem as I use Go Launcher Ex, a free launcher on the Android Market, and by far IMO the best launcher there is, so do not let touch which stop you from getting this tab.

[Q] should I buy it ?

Hello guys
I want to buy the tab 4 t230 mainly for reading pdf files
is it a good tablet and how about its performance ? I don't want it to be all laggy
thanks for your help
I don't know about the 230, but I have the 330 model and reading PDF files, and any other sort of document is a overall good experience for me. One could make the argument that bigger is better, but for me having the 8" model in horizontal or even vertical layout has worked quite well when it came to looking at notes, editing documents or even reading textbooks for college lectures/classes. I haven't noticed any lag when it came to just looking at a file, only when it came to running graphics intensive games.
(Quick summary) I use the 8" tablet daily and love it. recently, I purchased two textbooks from the play store and reading them and other PDF files work perfectly. :good:
-still it's always good to browse around.
Update: Before I made the purchase on the 8" model I read around that if you have a little bit extra it was a good idea to buy the 8" model over the 7" cause of the different processors inside. So it's all about how much you're willing to spend.

Edit. I would not buy the 7...
I bought the 8 and the below is for the 8...sorry. I forgot to mention that.
The tab in itself is decent, but with samsung pushy BS Apps the tab is slower...
However, should you buy the tab >> Root device with Towel root >> Freeze / uninstall all bloatware >> Install nova launcher >> Disable animations system wide >> Move larger apps to SD >> Presto = You've got a good tab!
Samsung software is not needed whatsoever. You can get a huge performance advantage by removing bloatwares and providing near android stock performance with nova launcher and animations disabled.
srsly no, i am still unable to root it, for the same price i would suggest a nexus 7
I rooted it out of the box a night or two ago. Just got it.
Same here, root capabilities were available a few weeks to a month after it was available for purchase back in june. I bought my tablet back in May when it first came out. However, I would still agree that a nexus 7 would be a good purchase if you just want to use a tablet for reading PDFs. Actually the Nexus 7 2013 edition is on sale for $159 on Ebay. The Nexus is still Googles current-gen device as of now and has many accessories and what not available, while it took months before I could even buy a cheap case for this tablet ( Better cases and accessories are out now, just not a plethora made specifically for the Tab4).

What is your device model? My tab is the 8 inch one. The 8 and 10 have similar specs and processor whereas the 7" tab has a marvel based processor and thus is different methodology to root.
Also, Yes I did update to latest firmware on my tab. Opened the box, ran updates, and rooted all about 3 days ago.

This has been discussed previously. Samsung added h/w level security to the Exynos 8895. Until it's in peoples hands no one knows for sure whether the changes will affect unlocking the bootloader.

Based on this, possibly none. If the only reason anyone is buying Exynos vs. S-835 is the unlocked bootloader you might want to hold off being the first to get it.
Finally, the Exynos 8895 also includes what Samsung is calling an “enhanced security sub-system with a separate security processing unit” for use with user authentication, mobile payments, and the like. Based on Samsung’s description this sounds a heck of a lot like Apple’s Secure Enclave, which would be a very welcome development, as in Apple’s case it has made their phones a lot harder to break into.

Its been compared to the Apple Secure Enclave (Security Coprocessor). Here's its description...
Security circuit designed to perform secure services for the rest of the SOC
Prevents main processor from gaining direct access to sensitive data
Used to support a number of different services - Most notably Touch ID
Runs its own operating system - Includes its own kernel, drivers, services, and applications
Sounds to me like anything security related is being moved to a separate and independent h/w coprocessor that's an integrated component of the SoC. The motive has to be a level of security that's as impenetrable as Apple's and significantly stronger than s/w based alternatives. Here's something Qualcomm got called out on recently...
A blog post published Thursday revealed that in stark contrast to the iPhone's iOS, Qualcomm-powered Android devices store the disk encryption keys in software. That leaves the keys vulnerable to a variety of attacks that can pull a key off a device. From there, the key can be loaded onto a server cluster, field-programmable gate array, or supercomputer that has been optimized for super-fast password cracking.
https://arstechnica.com/security/20...sk-encryption-just-got-much-weaker-heres-why/
This is a Samsung first being introduced on the 8895. What it means and how its implemented remain to be seen but that level of security investment by Samsung can't be good for things likely hackable bootloaders.
So wait, the snapdragon that USA is getting maybe easier to get an unlocked bootloader for? Based on this convo I am reading here?

waiting for the answer to this!
So no one with an Exynos variant has tried to unlock the bootloader yet? Come on! Give us an answer! NOT Snapdragon, but Exynos. No Snapdragon owners need reply as you do NOT know. Only Exynos owners can answer this question.
Last year was simple OEM unlock for Galaxy S7 Exynos variants, I've been told repeatedly. That's what I'm talking about, whether it's still that easy or not.
I'm not talking about needing a dev to do magic.
GALAXY S7 EXYNOS
To OEM unlock is very easy on the exynos models . In our model is allow to do it with the click of a button , you have to:
Go to Settings / About device / Software info / Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer
Once developer options are enable ( you will see it under Settings) enter there you will see the option OEM Enable

Either way, THANK you for providing the screenshot.
So many people were worried Samsung had "Snadrogoned" the Exynos S8, so especially here in XDA seems like finding out the answer would be prioritized over wallpapers discussion and stuff.

Hi, thnx for the useful info. Did you have trouble getting the unlock code from at&t? Where did you enter that code? A specific app on the at&t rom I'm guessing?
Getting a sprint version of this device, but want to use it t-mobile. Have read that just factory reset device and use odin to flash other firmware would work, does that sound feasible to you? I'm kind of doubting that but have no idea really.
It used to be flashing diff rom would sim unlock, but not anymore I don't think.
thnx for taking the time, so little info for this available.
cheers
No problem with at&t, although i had to impersonate a US location. Start here: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/unlockstep1
Like I said, vendor unlock, install odin on your pc, use odin to install the desired firmware you downloaded.
The firmware should boot up, but maybe the radio bands are different between the two isp's? and therefore the LTE part of the tablet may not work. i don't care since I don't install a sim card, just use it on wifi.
Thanks a lot for the info guys. For anyone else reading, I used 'T307UVLS6CUH1' (BMC) - and it is unbranded and doesn't have a ton of bloatware.
Also, since there are so few users on this thing, will also drop that I made a stand for it here:
Galaxy Tab A Stand by xnappo
This is a horizontal stand for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020). Admittedly it is a bit specific because of the not-so-popular tablet and the use of a NetDot Gen10 magnetic USB cable. One could use this with USB-C directly - but I do really recommend that (likely stress on USB port). You...

Hello,
I got unlocked ATT SM-T307UZNAATT from eBay.
My provider is Red Pocket, and I have ATT-compatible SIM.
When I try to place a call - ATT window appears and askes to log in to ATT account or create one.
How could I place calls?
Would appreciate any help!

How is the speed/lag? This tablet is mega slow, but I was wondering if I loaded different firmware (currently on AT&T) that it might help, since it can't be rooted.
My 8-yr old rooted Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is better than this thing, but alas a few apps won't run on 32-bit architecture. I think I will relegate this AT&T "brick" to my exercise bike for an entertainment interface.

Meh - no better. It is pretty ridiculous - I was very happy with my 2015 Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 - but it started crashing all the time. This one is slower, thicker, lower resolution, and heavier! 32 GB really isn't enough storage either.
It is super annoying there are not any good 8 inch Android tablets. The Huawei M6 8.4 looks okay, but being in the US it is a bit of a pain to get.

The only great 8" tablet is the Lenovo Legion Y700, running SD870 with 12gb ram. 2560x1600, but IPS and not OLED.
I own the Tab S 8.4 (2014), the Tab A 8.4 (2020) and the Y700 (2021, 8.8").
Tab A is terrible.
It's painfully slow.
It needs root.
It has the same RAM as a tablet 6 YEARS older than it, with LOWER resolution and ! much worse performance. I wish it could be fixed.... Android 10 Lineage is out for Tab S 8.4.

I have done quite a few mods/tweaks to system/Global/Secure settings and also disabled Gaming Optimization Service (GOS) via Alliance Sheild X, it has made a MASSIVE difference. This device's (SM-T307U) performance is being HEAVILY limited by software-based restrictions. Most of which can be disabled without root. I can go into more detail as to how ive sped up this device if anyone is interested.
NOTE - If someone has the ATT version and can drop the .IMG or Firmware .zip that'd be awesome.
Ill keep trying to find a way to root this device until i get a new one, if anyone else has any success, DM me.

I've already deleted, turned-off and disabled everything I can. It's a good bit snappier, but still a dog.
I actually have 2, so I may play around with deleting/disabling apps via ADB. But it's not battery drain, which with some securetask special permissions I've gotten it to SIP power while the screen is off (varies, as low as 2% per day up to about 6-7%).
I checked the usual sources and couldn't find any AT&T image files.

Yeah this this is good on power, it is just severely limited. Judging from similar devices with the same exynos processor, there's got to be something holding it back. I again recommend using SetEdit or something similar to modify some params in the settings tables. The line I highlighted is in both this tablet and my Galaxy S22 & S21. I also found a param in there called "Enhanced CPU responsiveness" which was set to off, after turning that on, I noticed a massive gain in my tablet.
Also worth noting is I added the line "Allow_more_heat_value" with a value of "30" and it allows all cores to boot to max.

I'll have to give this a shot. I wouldn't think AT&T throttled the CPU, which means Sammie did it for some reason. Probably to hit some sort of battery life benchmark. Or maybe it caused instability in some devices. But being a mid-tier processor you wouldn't expect that it needed to be throttled.
I believe Sammie is giving up on the Exynos processors. I bet they had issues on this tablet, said "screw it" and just **** this out with a throttled cpu.

It's 100% a Samsung related throttle. From my understanding, it's done because they use many of the same parts/processors in various devices, so as a way to control device specific performances, they set limitations. For example, this tablet has the same processor as some of their other "Higher-end" models (if I'm not mistaken), so to keep this tablet from outperforming the others, it's limited. I'm sure there are other reasons, like the battery benchmark bit that you mentioned too.
But yeah. This is 100% a Samsung based throttling.

I’d be interested in how you tweaked this tablet to function better.

Can you please share the mods/tweaks you've done?
I have one of these purely for its size, I travel over Europe and as the seating space is limited the smaller the better. I am running the Canadian Wind software but if anyone can give me a run through on disabling apps/services to speed up a bit that would be helpful.
I am going to buy the Lenovo Legion Y700 but only when a global version with LTE is available.
Cheers
Nick
