Good evening guys and girls,
Had a surprise visit from a Samsung UK field rep today, who when asked about 2.3.4, he said his Galaxy S2 already running a build and had been for 3 weeks, he said it was nice and stable, didn't get chance to nab a photo but he said it was supposed to start rolling out from around the 10th of June to XEU handsets in the UK.
His handset was KE6 and KE9
Crossing my fingers big time.
Hope it will fix battery drain.
That would be nice.
This is exciting to hear. Thanks for sharing. Always look forward to a new firmware as it can sometimes fix little issues here and there
This actually confirms what I got told my a SammySon engineer and also what balenax has posted on here.
this is great news, will developers of the popular roms need to start from scratch?
What are the news/addition of android 2.3.4?
Just my luck as I'll be out of town till the 13th so no pc access to update :|
Sounds good, coming from an iPhone I still don't know what the OS updates for androids look like yet

they change from manufacturer to manufacturer, not very much tied to android, so your experience could vary between samsung, htc, motorola, google itself, etc

His was a development build so anything can change.
Also I don't suffer from the yellow tinge that was mentioned above so didn't ask. Sorry.
really hope we get 2.3.4 soon, this battery life sucks.
if we are using a UK version in the U.S do you think we will get the ota update or will we have to wait until someone posts it on the forum?
I hope it will stop the battery drain and the smartphone heat (sometimes)!
Do you think we will have to reset the phone or are we able to flashing over existing KE7(currently installed)?
Hi guys!
Just wanted a few suggestions. I have a SM-G935FD and currently running G935FXXU1BPH firmware. Some time ago I had received the OTA update for BPIO. Am still wondering if one should update the phone or not. I am happy with my current setup and battery life, and historically whenever I have updated samsung phones they have led to some or the other bugs and poorer battery life. The only compelling reason is the security patches. What is the view of people out here? Can one continue to use his phone as stock always if he is happy with the performance or should you always do the OTA updates?
I think, if you happy with current version and the next version doesn't has useful features(read update change log) then you should keep it.
Sent from my SM-G935FD using Tapatalk
The update changelog usually don't say anything. It is just a "standard" text to inform you that the update MAY contain security updates, fixes or new features. You never don't know exactly what is changed or added...not from that log anyways. Best thing is to check over the Internet by the update code to find a detailed changelog but that's also hard to find.
I would advice to update tho, regardless of your past experiences. Most of the time updates contain bug fixes and/or security patches and they are also incremental. That means that, even if you don't update now, at some point, when a big update will come containing new features for ex, you'll want to upgrade. And that update will contain also previously skipped updates. Nobody tries to ruin your end user experience, especially on a high end phone like this and for sure they have a high quality control in place. But as everyone knows, there are bugs and flaws that could cause issues in some specific cases.
On S6 Edge and my current S7 Edge I had several updates and none brought me an issue...so go ahead.
Sent from nowhere over the air...
Perosnally I don't understand why you wouldn't update.
I'm on 1BPH and no updates available at the moment.. Haven't had an update since I've had the phone
Received mine several days ago, haven't had an update.

Well the only reason I don't feel like updating is that I have the mortal fear of bugs and bad battery life. In all previous experiences with android, updates mostly gave issues (mostly used Samsung and LG). Also its so difficult to know what are the changes being made.
We have no way to know that companies are actually injecting bugs to reduce battery or performance once their next flagship phones are out! So that customers are compelled to upgrade! Infact so many of friends and family have given this opinion that android phones don't last. After a year or too it becomes buggy or slow. Whereas look at apple my Ipad 2 still gets updates and battery is phenomenal!
I know most of what I am saying may be more of hunch but that's the reason I was wondering what others think about it...

Simply put, it is a gamble. Ask anyone who had the phone in March, then updated to April and got Android System drain and 6-7 hour SOT down to 4-5 lol. There is a 200+ page thread and the only known thing in there is that Samsung update on the S7 series have made battery life dog poop (compared to what it used to be).
Even those who claim great battery life, would have more if they flashed March firmware again. I flashed the most recent update and it was OK. Nothing special. Went back to March though, battery took a massive hit. I'd say stay where you are if things are running smoothly. I ain't updating till Nougat or till they fix Android System burning through 20-30% of the battery.

Exactly my point. When you buy the phone you know what you are buying and what is expected. However once you update that control goes back to the supplier who may ruin or improve you experience!!
Which firmware are you referring to? Please share the link.

- deleted as post got repeated
Does anyone know, or even think we will? What are your thoughts?
I wouldn't count on it. Samsung isn't the best at keeping their devices updated. If we are lucky enough to get it, it will certainly take a while. Knowing both Samsung and Verizon are slow about pushing their updates it will probably be MONTHS after other androids and even other S7s
I've seen news articles that feel we will get it. Usually Samsung will release two major OS upgrades per device. Nougat was the first. Oreo would be the second.
And not sure why you say they're not good at keeping their devices updated. I just today received the current security monthly patch and I've been getting them monthly. That's better than other devices I've had in the past (Motorola, LG).
BTW, this is my first Samsung smartphone. And so far, I've been very pleased with it. I used to root my devices in the past, but with this phone, I've had no reason to. For me, it performs well and I get sufficient battery life out of it.
I think yes.

There are more sources saying that S6 WILL get Oreo.

There is even more I'm sure.
They are not sources, just articles related to the same source already cited here, people from Samsung support center, not the official statement from Samsung.
In this case, seeing is believing. I don't think we'll ever get official statement that Oreo will be supported for S6, it's either it will or it won't, only time will tell. Certainly if it ever comes, it won't be before March or even April.

You are right, they are all using one source, I messed up. Still, they are not saying there's a chance, they are confirming it's gonna happen and they seem confident. I'm sold. If it doesn't happen then I won't consider them a viable source of information anymore.
I'm still not convinced. It might even be that they plan to update it to Oreo, only to be cancelled at some point.

May I know what website is that? Thanks
Although I'm not sure if this is going to be real, it's technically possible. There's a phone called Galaxy A8 2016. Since the 2015 models of Galaxy A Series got Nougat, that device would almost certainly get Oreo, and it has similar specs to the S6 (Exynos 7420, 3GB RAM). It wouldn't be too much of a job for Samsung to support S6 too.
Maybe we could port Oreo from the A8 2016 if Samsung chooses not to push Oreo for S6..
Guys don't be so pessimistic...
The Galaxy S6 is still a very good and strong device. It is a Milestone and it deserves Android 8.0. They are probably updating it to 8.0 because they want to Change their update polity and thats really great. Be happy, at least they consider to update the device and do not cancel the update. They also could have said "No the S6 won't receive 8.0" but they didnt!

Thanks a lot mate :good:
Oooo such intresting news about new software update. Galaxy s6 will may get android 8 oreo.
I have a perfect matched gif for this
Why samsung need to waist extra time and resources on a such "failed" device when they already are orientated at quantity instead of software sussport ? Battery is terrible, probably 50% of users already in 1/2 years of use switched to other device, like galaxy s7 or s8 or other one with better battery. Because.. I truly believe a lot of users was like , - pissed of with 3-4 max hours screen on time.
There is no point for them to do this. When they already released a lot of new devices with new android version etc and also with upgrades like biger batterys, galaxy s7 etc. As samsung stated, they provide 2 years of software updates. Thats it. So they what ? Changed theyr update policy somehow ? Where updates then, refreshed policy about this that they changed theyr own rules ? No official news from samsung, nothing.
Samsung turkey, samsung other or else etc.. who cares about them ? Samsung turkey once stated about nougat update when s6 will get and they lied about date when it will release, delayed a lot. And now states about oreo ? Haha.
I dont believe either of them. They just writing what they want witchout any facts or confirms. Again.. - rumors without trusted source.

There is point for them to do this as they wan't to support their devices for more than 2 years to remain competitive with the like of Google and Apple. Yeah Samsung Turkey lied about the date but hey Nougat still came! I think Samsung CS counts as trusted sources, verified by multiple reps in many different countries!
Hey guys!
I don't know if you already heard it but the Galaxy S6 lineup will probably receive Android 8.0. Many Samsung employees confirmed that and there is already a leaked list of devices which will get the update. Today I noticed that not only the S6 was mentioned on that list... the Galaxy Tab S2 will probably receive the update as well! In my opinion it is really great to see that the first premium devices from Samsung will get another update

Maybe we will get Samsung Experience 9.0 with the update. It would be very great to get some S8/S9 UI feauters
If Samsung's track record holds of two major version updates per flagship device, the 2016 Tab S2 should get Oreo. The 2015 may or may not - I guess it depends on whether Sammy is feeling generous.
I'm not sure who would hope their device doesn't get the update? While it's possible Samsung could pull an Apple stunt and kill performance with an Oreo update, that generally hasn't been an issue. In reality, it will just be security patches and support for newer apps. The days of new Android versions bringing sea changes of improvements appear to be in the past.

I agree Samsung seem to give 2 major updates to their flagships and higher spec devices.
The S2(2) should get Oreo. I'd say unlikely the S2(1)will see it.
As a 2015 owner, all I want for the last major update is a stable build without any major bugs. From then on, I'd just like the same build with the security updates. The current Nougat is pretty solid but the screen brightness does keep going up and down on some occasions.
i would love to see something for the 819N, i mean there isn't even any custom roms for that version of the tablet, i hope at least samsung goes oreo for it.

Probably 2016 model can hope for it because it has been shipped with 6.0 and also is not sure...but 2015 model should kill the idea because has been shipped with 5.0.1. Even if we could run oreo Sammy will never give a third major update to a 2015 device, even if the only difference between 2015 and 2016 is the CPU (correct me if i'm wrong)
I think it's crazy how Samsumg abandons its own products. I can understand their budget devices getting updates, but this is their only tablet line. Not to mention they were selling these for $400+ a pop (i got mine out of a pricing error for $200 though).
Just shows you that iPad should be the only tablet product to purchase from here on out... I think the last year and a couple months I've owned this it's been updated a whopping 3 times! Never again will I buy Samsung.
