I too would like this info. I travel a lot and my company gives me a prepaid sim when I am traveling for them.
Later.......
There is already a thread on this, use the search to find it. basically you have two options: The one where you cut your sims (try not to destroy them, with me this method did not work because the dual sim adapter was dead) or the one where you put your sims into a dual sim adapter. the last method leaves a large bump on the back of the device and causes the battery cover to bulge. I tried it, but the bulge is too ugly for me and the chances are that the cover breaks. use search to find more info on this subject.

Worked for me in my Motorola Razr V3 but was troublesome in the Cingular 8125. I haven't tested it since I upgraded my OS on the 8125. But will do that soon.
the vavolo (sim clone) wont work in many countries due to the type of sim.
See my postings in the other thread 9use search0 for the solution that works for me.

I have just tried for the second time to activate and use a sim card that comes with the G2 and it will not work with the Nexus One. The gold contacts are of a different size and shape.
make sure you are putting it in properly. it is the same card size. the way the n1 recieves the card is different the the g2.
i have had no issues with switching back/forth from g2/n1.

Last I heard SIM cards adhere to ISO 7816. ISO 7816-2 specifies the location and sze of contact plates. The SIM cards should be interchangable.
Sim cards are a universal standard. As long as it's not one of those micro sims, it will work in the N1.

Indeed, you might find that the contacts can look a little different between SIMs, but they will all work on anything.
Hi,
I just purchased a P6800 to replace my current phone.
Everything is awesome about the device, but everytime I try to insert my SIM from my previous phone, it keeps saying "Please Insert SIM"
After many reboots, same message shows on the unlock screen.
I've tried other SIM cards from my friends' phones (H20, Red Pocket, T-Mobile, Etc.)
The only SIM it seems to detect is my old O2 SIM card from my travel overseas.
Are there different times of Mini SIMs? Perhaps the metal contact sizes are different for data and regular phone SIMs?
I hope someone can help as I would love to utilize the full capabilities of this device.
Thanks.

It uses a regular sized SIM, not a micro-SIM. Are you sure you're inserting the SIM with the contact side down notch end first?

Im having the exact same problem. Bought a Telstra sim for my P6800 and it wont recognise it. The same sim works fine in my Galaxy Nexus, and the sim from my Galaxy Nexus works fine in the Tab. It's just this particular sim/data plan it wont recognise the sim, keeps saying 'insert sim'. I had the sim replaced, same issue. Any ideas?
Did you try to go to Settings -> Wireless and then configure the APN, etc.?

Wont let me into it. When I press Mobile Networks it tells me to insert a sim. The sim works fine in other devices but is not detected by the Tab. A Google search reveals that it is a common problem with certain sims and carriers, I may have to go to a Telstra store and try a few different sims.. Unless there is something else I can try?
I had a problem with my sim card but when I reboot my device It is Ok.
Yes. Try to reboot your device. When I inserted my SIM while the tablet was on, it would give me the same error until I restarted the tablet.
You definitely have to reboot the Tab after inserting the Sim.

With respect, rebooting was the first thing I tried! Makes no difference whether I insert the sim when the Tab is off or not, still not detected
If a different Sim card works in the tablet you can see if your phone provider can give you another Sim. If no Sim works, it's most probably HW related

A sim that worked earlier in the week no longer works, sadly now looks to be a hardware issue..
You can't use the micro sims they mess up the sim reader if you leave it in it will continue to work but once you take it out it breaks the sim slot it happened to me i used a att sim first and it worked fine then a rep at a cell shop put his micro sim with an adapter into to it to see if it worked with t-mobile and when he took it out the sim slot wouldn't work I had to get the device replaced

And that is exactly what has happened to me. I was using a micro sim with adapter and after I removed it, the device no longer recognises sim cards. It will cost me AU$130 to have it repaired.
A big warning to everyone else not to use micro sims with adapters, make sure you use a full old-style sim card! Quite annoying since most carriers these days have the sim card with the micro-sim push out, these will damage the sim slot in the P6800
Same problem here after using a microsim adapter now it doesn't recognize any sim. Do you know how to remove back cover so i try to repair internal sim card reader?

Same problem here, after using a Micro-Sim Adapter, my p6800 stopped recognizing the sim cards. I hope the repair do not cost too much.
Don't know if this might help.
I had the same experience when I insert my Sim card the first time.
Luckily I have about twenty old Sim card to play with.
I tried most of them and found put that some Sim card is thinner.
So, what I did was to paste a layer of clear tape on the back of my Sim card to make it slightly thicker.
It will fell a but tight at first.
But it helps.

I've also tried that, pasted a piece of tap to make the sim a bit thicker but It didn't worked, I think I have to send it for repair.
Thanks for your help.

Last try would be the most ancient method.
Try using a eraser to rub the contacts of the Sim card.

hi everyone,
i was gifted a single sim variant from vodafone spain, i got it to dual sim following tutorial on xda , would thank for it before everything, now i have a question my phone only has one imei number that means it isnt really a dual sim, one simcard would be offline while you are on another calling or answering, so question really is does dual sim variant of p8 lite ale-l21 have two imei no´s , if someone can verify that by checking on dial pad *#06#, that would be great help , if someone can verify that then next and progresive step would be to repair imei using some profesional software like hcu client or sigma key, i think if it has only one imei on dual variant also then there is no way single sim variant can be really dual,,,
thanks for reading :good::good:
Dual sim has two imei, i can assure you.
With what version(ale-l12 c432bxxx) came your phone?

to tell you honestly i didnt check at that time, i followed tutorials and now i am on ale-l21c432b560, did download a vdf spain firmware that says b181 in filename so that should be it most probably, my one is going on to recieve signal from both sims but when you are on call other one is offline, it should be related to imei for sure

Try downgrading to b056 and then use updater to get to b170 i had problems with my imei once and solved it that way. I'm not sure it Will work but it's worth a try. The user sokoban has all the files you need on his website
hi,
i still havent tried downgrading as suggested but i managed to get second imei by repairing it using hcu client, so now i have two imei1 and imei 2, but it is still doing the same thing if i am on one line other one goes on to offline mode, so i will try the suggested step and see what happens i havent got anything to lose as atleast both sims are working just not at the same time.
thanks

Keep us updated. that's the only way we know wat works
well it didnt work, because the phone it self even though has two imei numbers its not prepared for dual sim active, its a dual sim standby , so hw doesnt permit to have both sims to be working at same time, so thats it one more adventure done, but one thing i was able to do is get bot sims working including microsd card with it ,, you will have to modify the sim tray and microsd card and sim both with have to shed some plastic to get it thin enough to make it work but its possible ,,, sorry huawei ...

That's Actually... AWESOME....
Please tell me you documented that. Or at least show a picture
You need to unlock your network service in order to use dual sim .. maybe you used different network for sims ... try to use both sims with the same network and see after.
yes why not,, but please anyone who does give it a try you would risk breaking microsd and sim its a risk i took for expriment and broke a microsd but got things working, need good skills and patience, and yes it can be done.. you can see in pics i broke one doing it then i tried on a 2 gb one and it worked absolutely fine, most important part is do not over do it, and be prepared to get sim tray out with bit of force once it goes into the slot, so you will have to trim the sim and microsd both of them to minimum thickness possible, then the sim tray woul have to be modified if you pay attention sim sits into a bracket created in simtray, so the hack is to trim that space so that sim almost goes through the tray, now thats it be brave and insert it into the slot try to get it in a bit go out again and slowly letting the tray go into more and more.. hopefully that helps ,,, please do not try this if you dont have patience, took me around 6 hours to figure it out,, and dont blame me if u break any stuff..
tomorrow gone put get 32 gb card for this new shiny thing,
thanks everyone
i am in spain, all phones sold here are unlocked by law, from 2015 onwards, sim locked phones always ask for unlock code except damn iphones that need to be activated, so i am pretty sure it isnt the case aleast not with this one i have. but thanks,,,and as i told i did check specs on gsm arena and it says its a dual standby so it must be hardware that wont allow that,, or that should be it,,

Hey!
Is it possible to change an single-sim Moto into a working dual-sim version? The SIM-tray is cutted out for two SIM.

Only in RetAsia models.
Thanks!
People have been trying. From reading what other share it is possible to solder in the pongo pins as the socket is there for the second SIM. Also the plastic tray has a plastic cover where the second Sim should have been.
Software side yeah is doable (with a bit of argue and salt) the phone is capable. There are two possible scenarios:
1) the modem from a single Sim variant is truly capable and not having anything disable, at which is enough to adjust build.prop properly to enable such features as dual SIM options and UI in the system, also letting the os know to look for a second Sim
2) the modem is disabled in some way, but is easy to fix as flashing over the modem from the dual SIM variant, and then continue as of case #1
IMO, you really must have a need for a second Sim on this phone to go through all this trouble!
It's good to know that the option is there if someone needed it badly.
If you are willingly to solder in the pongo pins I'd be happy to help with the build.prop adjustments !
x play / zplay could, there is thread in xda, i would say yes, for x style can mod single to dual sim mode
