Cpu not scaling correctly - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I'm facing an odd issue on my S7 Edge, my cpu acts very weird, it seems that the 2nd processor doesn't go on at all.

Do I need a factory reset?(Yes, probably)
I'm on stock ITV firmware no root
Even under heavy loads (games, benchmarks) it doesn't kick on.

I'd watch also my battery flatline at astonishing speeds lol.

Dude, this is normal. Those last two CPU's only get activated when the phone is doing heavy duty stuff like gaming and such. Mine is the same and im pretty sure everybody's else's is to.

Cpu spy still not support stat for 2nd cpu so it doesn't show up.

Yep that is true , when i had Note 5 there were one governor that Arter97 brought that almost was perfect, cafeactive. it utilized CPU as it should be, i know because as far as cpu intensive games, Tekken 6 on ppsspp emulator is super intensive, and it worked perfect, but it had problem with heavy 3d games so it got replaced

Use other apps. Cpu spy don't show them all for exynos cpu.

Got it, thanks for the heads up! I think I'm gonna reset it anyway, it just doesn't feel snappy as it was.

Hey,
Just finished developing another app.
This time it's AirDraw.
What it actually does is flashes the letters of a word that you enter according to your phone location when you are waving it.
The outcome is like you are drawing in the air.
Its downloadable via Google Play for free (a little admob ad is inside, thats the reason it needs an internet access permission)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ValkA.airdraw
here is a slow shutter photo I shot while waving the phone (thats on LCD, which isn't that good for that purpose):
If you like it you are welcome to Like my facebook page.
ps.
notice that the app is at early stage, so any ideas are welcome !
LCD has slow response time, but AMOLED should be better.
I haven't tried that on AMOLED display so i'll be happy to hear about your experience, if possible some slow shutter photos are very welcome and will very help me to improving the algorithms.
Does it have to have full network access?

In super amoled it works perfectly

It worked really well, some improvements could be made into visibility and sometimes it turned a word around but further it worked flawless

I know that issue, shouldn't be a problem to fix it in the next updates.
bleeeeeeek, it needs internet access only to show an AD (that is my motivation to keep developing free apps)

Hi, this feature works if you leave the phone in a flat surface. If you have the phone in your hand, it doesn´t work.

I tried it in a flat surface when the phone is charging, but it doesn't work anyway.

I tried turning it over and in this case it works.
Did you make sure to swipe over the sensors above the screen?

Yes, i tried both to move my hands over the sensors and to keep it over the sensors, but it doesn't work. I don't know what could be.
I don't think that it is a sensor's problems since the sensors are working fine. Very strange.

I like to use it since they are useful. This morning i did few tries and i saw that if i lay my hand touching the sensors it works sometimes, but if i only put my hands on it without touching the sensors, it doesn't work. Very strange, i really don't understand what could be.

"sleeping" CPU cores...anyone else notice this?

Last night I was just messing around and looking at some things trying to figure out the issues with choppy scrolling on our phones since the update and was checking out CPU usage and noticed something interesting...
I saw that two of the CPU cores were being reported as "sleeping" with no activity registered on them...even after running a benchmark there was no activity shown...
A reboot "fixed" the issue and all 4 cores were reporting activity...but then after going to bed, and waking up this morning it is back to the same...I attached a couple of screenshots to show what I'm seeing. You can see in the second picture the "history" clearly shows where the two cores went to sleep...

Isn't the 820 a big/little quad core? You'll only have 2 active at one time.

You can clearly see here...that after rebooting the phone...all 4 cores will register as active for a time...
Or here

I was wrong. The SD820 is not big/little it's asymmetrical.
With that said I'm running Geekbench in splitscreen and the highspeed cores are not showing as active.
Going to reboot and try again. If the score is significantly higher.

My AnTuTu scores don't seem to be significantly lower when the cores are "sleeping" maybe 1000 points give or take (on total scores of 150,000+ so not significant) but it's still odd for all of these apps to be having such a hard time accurately reporting the activity on such a popular chipset ya know?
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
I have noticed the same phenomenon on Xperia XZ (Snapdragon 820 also) after Nougat update. Have not done any benchmarking though.
Whats the path to get to the screenshots you posted???? Or is it an app????
You can also see the utilization is much less. Maybe it's automatic that they wake or sleep based on demand?
I've noticed this too. Have opened up games and many other apps but cant seem to get those 2 cores "awake".
Here's an interesting app I stumbled across: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mediatek.multicoreobserver
With the last update its definitely not turning off any cores. All 4 are staying active and scaling at all times.

MY Z5c. RAM when using only 1 High-end App

This is sad, so annoying they made this model 2GB and not 3GB like the rest of Z5's
the only way to make this phone more future proof is to make swap partition i guess..

Yes, disabling movie creator has made the phone usable {after nougat got installed }..free ram is around 0.5 gb.
However, I feel like the phone was faster with mm

Agree with you, but nougat more usefull for me. For example, fingerprint works better on nougat. İt couldn't work properly before
Interesting! The fingerprint sensor has always worked flawlessly in my z5c, even back in its lollipop days
