When i am downloading, say a ROM, i cannot stop the download.
On my last phone, the Xperia Z2 there was a download manager app where you could cancel downloads.
But on this one its just plain impossible...
Anybody have a solution?
Have you tried holding your finger on the download for a couple of seconds to see if a menu pops up. If so, you might be able to cancel it from there.
it seems the default download manager doesnt have gui, i could not stop a download too and could not find the service to kill.
just dont use the default browser to download, use opera or uc browser as they have their own download managers, or install a dedicated DM, there are good free ones that can resume and all sorts, but they use up data by having ads.
Delete the downloading file from My File. Hold the file and click on the delete button right away when you see it
Doesn't work.

I found a solution a while ago, but it takes some steps and can get annoying if you download often. But I haven't found any other way (except for third party downloaders, of course):
- Tap and hold the download progress notification
- Then the notification settings screen for the Download Manager app comes up. Tap on the "i" on the top right
- Choose storage and then clear the app's data. Then the download is killed completely. I haven't experienced any disadvantages from clearing this app's data.
Don't forget to delete the file manually after that in /sdcard/download/ if it's big because the part that has been downloaded until killing will still take up space.
This is a MAJOR annoyance of mine... Though on the Z2 on MM I had the same. Was it phased out on MM? sure it was on LP.

Restarting the phone kills the download. A pita but it works
U have to go to setting app and force close the downloads and wipe cache it's a major downside of the Samsung browser and it's sad they've never fixed it

So I fixed my battery issue, but now web is just closing on its own. Damn I suck, sorry guys gigantic noob. I don't want to download another browser cause I honestly don't mind the standard browser. I've rooted and done the GPS thing.
Please, help out a struggling peon???

Closing as soon as it opens or after some use? If the former, is your home page set to Google.com with location access enabled?
It's an Android software problem imho. I was just entering a reply in a different xda forum USING OPERA and before I could finish the f'n browser just f'n closed on me. Didn't save where I was browsing or anything.
Has happened to me several times and I don't think it's only the stock browser.
Yeah, google is set as home page and location finder is on.

o noticed that with the lag fix i applied, the browser freezes up or just wont load all the way. I removed the lag fix and everything works fine. I don't even know if there is a way to delete the cache on the ext2 partition. cache cleaner doesn't fix it so it just builds up and builds up

I bet that's your problem. To fix it, try to get into settings before the page finishes loading. Clear location access, and until Samsung releases a fix, don't allow Google.com to have location access.
If you really like the local search feature, try "places directory" from the market in the mean time.
this happened to me everytime i tried to go to flash intesive websites. it wasn't too often though, i ended switching to xscope is the best browser i have used on a mobile device(personal opinion).
give it a try.
stock, dolphin and skyfire all crash on me if i go to some web pages with flash. Turning off use plugins in the settings fixes it.
Hi, I'm using android Gingerbread (SD) and was downloading some apps from the market when my phone ran out of battery. Now when I reboot there is a constant notification in the notification bar which says that my download is in progress, but the progress bar doesn't move, and I don't know how to get rid of it. Even tried rebooting, but it doesn't change
Go to Market and uninstall those apps and then install it again. If the apps already installed but the Market is still saying it's in downloading progress, then download Easy Uninstaller to uninstall it and then install the apps from the Market.
I went to the market and it shows the apps on 'My Apps' as Free (as opposed to installed, like the rest of the apps). Oddly though, I only tried to download 3 apps, but in the notification bar it shows the apps I was trying to download 'and 8 more' ?!
Anything that you downloaded from the Market will listed under My apps. Sometime the ROM that you installed have preloaded apps and the Market regconized that under My apps as well. Follow the steps on the above post if the Market got confused on the downloading/stuck/updating apps.
Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Market and clear data and cache. Then it should stop constantly always downliading those apps.

I don't quite understand what you mean, but I've left wifi on for a while and it now has reduced the number from 8 to 6 apps to download. I have not got any notifications that they were installed but hopefully it will just clear all the downloads. Only problem is that if the screen turns off it stops downloading, so I have to leave the screen on.
Its in your phones settings under applications. That happens sometimes when ur phone dies with apps being downloaded. Just click on the things i said in the order i listed them and the downliading aops should go away instantly

I don't have the marketplace thing under manage applications, but I used the app in the first reply to sort it out instead. Thanks

Hi guys... stupid me... I was playing around with Titaniuum Backup and read about the recommended job to integrate update into the ROM in order to free up space. Good idea, i thought.
So, I pressed it and was toasted successfully. Tried to start chrome again and was told that an error occurred and I have to delete chrome first. Well. I wondered as it is a system app. Never mind. Titanium backup pro solves the problem I thought. Deleted Chrome, restarted and installed it.
If now I want to start Chrome, it closes itself and gives a toast that "Chrome stopped working". I can press report or ok. The most interesting part is, that this toast appears 2 times. So, I guess that the process starts 2 times and produces a conflict.
Any idea?

Try clearing data and defaults of Chrome in "system settings - apps" and then long pressing Chrome and turning it to a system app in TB.

Hello, "undo sys integration" lets me know that there is nothing to undo. So, I can not execute this process.
@yuzgen: Chrome is still a system app and so, I can not make it one ( as it is already)

But you put "Deleted Chrome, restarted and installed it." in your first post. So now it must be a user app?
Try this!

1. Make sure chrome is closed.
2. Go to the app settings and remove all data from chrome.
3. Go into /data/data/ (with a root explorer) and remove any directory with chrome (probably: com.android.chrome),
4. Then remove chrome from your device.
5. Restart the device after that reinstall chrome from the play store.

Thank you Jeffrey. That solved my problem. If ever you come to Thailand, I invite you to a beer (or 2)
So,
Yesterday I got this banner ad towards the bottom of the screen. It has an "opt out" tab at the bottom right. You click on this and it loads a web page that prompts you to install an app, use it then delete the app. Obviously didn't download the app.
Anyone else having this? Here's a pic.
This will be coming from an app you have installed. Check the apps you recently installed, it will be one of them.
Yeah, problem is I've been quite busy installing lately!
I've installed adguard and I think it may have worked. Ad popped up, but not filled in, then disappeared.
Score!
Try installing AirPush Detector. This can uually detect which apps are pushing out ads.
Well, airpush stops halfway through. Sent a report log to the developer. Maybe they can figure out.
Try Addons Detector. This also helps to find apps that are pushing ads.
Just press scan. After the scan, select 'Addons' and choose "Push Notifications" from the drop down (though I believe it is selected by dault)
Thank you. I've never had this problem, so I've never looked into these types of apps.
solved on my wife's samsung galaxy A5 2016
i clicked on one of the ads and a web page for the advertiser opened in a built-in in-app browser. i then pressed the application switcher button and it showed that the page had opened in an app called file manager.
i uninstalled file manager and then wiped application cache (turn phone off; then turn on by holding in power button + home button + volume up, when phone vibrates release power key but keep volume up and home key depressed).
note that adds ons detector nor airpush detector yielded positive results.
note that my wife is fairly (she says 99% sure) she did not install the file manager app - it most likely updated (theory). we both suspect the app came pre-installed on the phone. i was using the file manager app to browse her files and it seemed fairly legit as an app - it worked as one expects a file manager app to work.
note her phone is not rooted.
solved

I had the same problem...... tried everything but didn't get any results. I uninstalled "Bluetooth app sender" and everything was back to normal. No more floating ads.
I'm using h2os, latest update on my oneplus x e1001. I googled and it seems like there should be some app named "Downloads" or so, i just dont have it, neither do i have any options in chrome regarding downloads at all. Hope you can help me out.
It's there, but hidden from the app drawer. Whenever you download something from the net, the "downloading xxx" appears in the pull down status bar notifications. One click on it and the download app will open....
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
I just tried to download something, but clicking on the notification will just open it. As for pressing it would pop up some notification related thing.
Get a file manager, you'll find your files under downloads in the internal storage.
I have the default one but i moved some files and cant remember where. Thought there is such thing as a download manager just like in chrome on pc. Im a little dissapointed
