Navbar buttons offcenter after changing dpi - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After changing lcd density to 240 my navbar buttons aren't centered anymore. I've attached a screenshot of the problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Well go look in the systemfiles for the navbar settings file and change its alignment to centered or the width of it or reset the dpi. (Why would you even change it?)

Thanks for the fast reply. I changed the dpi because by default everything is much too large and too much of the screen size is being wasted imo.
Where exactly are the settings files for the navigation bar located? I've only edited build.prop before and I'm not familiar with the rest of the files.

I'll be honest with you. If you are not familiar with it you should probably let it be. But if you still want it you might want to take a look at these and probably even flash it.

I'm not quite sure but they should work on android 6 as well. Don't ask S3VEN for Support cause he is not here anymore.

Links are dead and by the look of it all it does is change the size of the icons. Having an altered lcd density would probably still cause the icons to be off center.
Thanks anyway. I'll install xposed and give gravitybox or some other modules a try and report back in case anyone else is also having the same problem.

System font adjustment

Have you verified this?
I've tried several versions of spare parts - the ones that have font adjustment don't really do anything. Even if this ROM works, I still don't think this is the kind of thing that should require voiding warranty to have.

My experience is that it only resizes fonts in the SpareParts app itself, has no effect on anything else, and they aren't retained when you restart the SpareParts app.

actually it resizes everything but it quickly reverts back to the original settings. once it changed right before my eyes just by rotating to landscape view. the app has the ability to change all fonts size but something is changing it back. there has to be some way of disabling that to make the change stick. can anyone shine some light on this issue?

SlimICS icon size too small for my eyes

Hi,
anyone know how we can get the "normal" size of the icon provided with SlimICS ?
Actually the icons are very small and dont find a solution by downloading some fonts provided by the OTA but that changed nothing :/
Regards
Change the current dpi 182 to 240 dpi.. There is setting to change dpi somewhere in `Settings`, cant tell you where exactly since I am not using it !
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
i try and will keep you inform as soon as i will success thus this will help another one.
The solution is here :
after that ; reboot and then the image are now at the expected size !
On my side I've use ES Explorer and to be able to modify the file, i've mounted the system to be writable.
Regards
There is actually a much easier way built into the phone.
Go to settings, ASS, general UI then in here you should see a section which says LCD Density. Click it and you will be given a list of what to do to change it in the correct order to do it. Follow that and you should be fine.
Thanks !
I didnt see it before. Too many little precious things hidden in this rom
haha yeah it is a bit over whelming at times. I don't touch half of the settings.
For sure, it's true !
Should ask this in the SLIM ICS instead imho!
Before I flash Slim I always first edit build.prop (in system folder in essentials zip) and change lcd density value to 240. Starts up the way I like it right away.
Icons on the SGH-I337 so small I can't see!

I have the SGH-I337 and my icons are too small as well. Especially using the Noled program (which btw in the Skyrocket and Captivate earlier models, same App, but the icons were so much bigger.
ALSO the dang notifications in the bar at the top are so small I can barely see them! Is there a way to enlarge them as well??
I'm new to this, can you tell me how to change the dpi on the SGH-I337 please?
Thank you!

Hi, I've just jumped from my modded 240dpi N7100 note2 to brand new N910F note4 and with the 2560x1440 screen everything seems to me so huge on the screen
I have root done and now thinking about changing the size of everything on the screen to more friendly size, anyone has some experience with it on this new battle ground?
I will try to change build.prop but would like to ask first before I do something stupid.

not yet, just going to reflesh it now with original firmware
update:
I am now after refleshing and back to stock dpi settings with no problems
did you try using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.texdroider.texdroider_dpi
I used this app on my LGG3 which also has the same QHD screen and it worked perfectly
I've changed it to 480 which is about as small as I think is useful. No boot loop issues.
I did have to use the Xposed app 'App Settings' to reset the stock apps like Clock, Contacts, Camera back to 640.
The issue that everyone has that right now has no solution is the lock screen becomes misaligned.

all is displayed in 640 dpi only, tried to re-save it again but no luck

Attached two screenshots - it looks pretty "normal" since I use Nova Prime to increase icon size and such (and you need to make Font size in display large), but you can see the status bar height in the first screenshot and the size of each notification in the second screenshot - much more compact.

Yeah it's a must for me. However be aware that it will misalign the locksceen if you use fingerprint lock. It doesn't impact functionality at all, just visual so I can live with it until hopefully a dev fixes it.
Is it posibble to change the default Samsung launcher to behave like on a tablet (allow landscape) that way? Or maybe installing a different launcher is the solution (do Nova or Google Now allow it?)? I am used to tablets and would love to use my Note 4 with tablet interface...
Hello
Use xposed framework to and install "app settings". Then use a build prop editor and change the ro lcd density from 640 to 480.
Then once you've rebooted you will see that some Samsung apps (including the phone and camera) do not scale well. To fix this - change their dpi back to 640 by using the "App settings" then reboot.
Voila.

Yeah i remembered same and tested to change it to 640 but still looking bad... So i'm thinking i need change something else (also?). Is there any other app than App Settings which i can use to change some apps dpi setting?
I personally drop my dpi by 80 on all my devices. So on the note 2 I went from 320 to 240. On the Note 3 I went from 480 to 400. On the Note 4 I went from 560 to 480 and everything worked fine with no boot loops. I used Rom Toolbox to change mine. I also used App Settings in Xposed to change some apps back for usability. Like dialer, gallery, calculator, camera, etc.

WOOT - thanks for the tip man. Changed keyguard to 640 in app settings, also clicked the apply res to widgets box (not sure if needed), and then rebooted. Simply using the option to kill app didn't reset the lockscreen.
However after reboot my lockscreen with fingerprint is back to 640 and everything else is still at 480.

How to change the DPI (no root)

I'm not sure how widely known this is, but it's possible to change the DPI of your new phone if (like me) you find that everything is too big. It's super easy too.
1. Go to About Phone > Software Info and tap the Build number 7ish times to unlock the developer options menu.
2. Back out to settings, enter the Developer options menu now at the bottom of the list.
3. Scroll down until you find the Minimum width setting in the Drawing section about 3/4 of the way down. It's set to 411dp by default on the S8+.
4. Change it to whatever you prefer! Higher number = everything gets smaller, Lower number = everything gets bigger.
Enjoy your extra space!
Awesome.. one problem.. keyboard looks wierd after changing width
If the keyboard looks weird.. Go up on DPI because its breaking up the design.
Im at 460 on highest resolution. And its not breaking that.

Is your AOD centered (if you have it enabled)? I set my S8 to 420 and the AOD was slightly skewed to the right. Tried pushing it down to 411, which I guess is default on the S8+ and it re-centered the AOD. I'm assuming there are various 'accepted' DPI settings that won't break the layout; I think somebody listed them for the Pixel on Reddit, but I can't find a similar listing for the S8. Any ideas?

I also noticed it not being centered after changing the DPI, and what's worse after setting it back to 411 it's still not centered

500 here w/ all apps full-screen, bold font just a shade above tiny. So glad this is able to be done w/o root, along w/ multi window for any app!
Any recommendations for a bigger option xd... tried 351 but doesn't seems great.. 411 is too small for me
600 turns on tablet mode, and things are working well. Two issues I've noticed so far:
* The battery icon in AoD doesn't render correctly
* "About Phone -> Status" page causes com.android.phone FC - doesn't seem to have any ill effects besides not being able to open that page. Need to go 599 or lower to get it to open again.
480 is a good one

Hey, can you elaborate on the multi-window? I haven't messed around with mine that much yet, and I haven't seen anything mentioned anywhere else.
I remember doing this on the Note 7 I think and I remember that though I liked it, I wanted to go back, so when I set it back to the DPI that it was before, it didnt actually restore everything to the way it was. I noticed someone on here mentioned they set it back to 411 and that did NOT bring things back to stock. Can anyone else confirm?
Im on the s8+ and I love smaller icons/txt so I'd like a higher DPI, but scared that if I dont like it, I will not be able to get everything back to stock without restoring the phone, which I really dont want to do lol.
Also, what is AoD?
I use Nova, so not sure what it stands for.

I haven't noticed anything that doesn't change back. If there are certain font sizes etc that don't change back, I would suspect a reboot would fix that, but I can't tell you for sure. AoD is 'Always on Display', the clock/date/battery/etc display that comes up on the screen when the screen is "off".

Sure thing!
Settings>Advanced Features>Multiwindow: Enable both
Developer options>Force activities to be resizable: Enable
Once you've done that, hold your recents button to use multi-window whenever you'd like. I tend to use the feature for most of my daily work, and in my opinion is the most useful native addition in years.
I should mention as well, enabling "screen pinning" (Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Other Security Settings>Pin Windows) and using it when still wanting to keep another app full screen is very beneficial! Once enabled, you can access the feature w/ the recents button as well. Just hold down on the app.

Change DPI (no root)

In addition to changing the text size, here is how to change the overall DPI on a non rooted Mi 9:
Settings - Additional Settings - Developer Options - Smallest Width
The default value is 392. Change it higher to make things smaller, change it lower to make things bigger.
I've got it set to 449 which is a nice change.
Note if you don't have Developer Options, you need to do this:
Settings - About Phone - MIUI Version (tap this 7 times)

Have you tried if you can boot into fastboot?? Then you could edit/change the DPI Settings in build.prop (/system/build.prop). There you need adding/modifying lower Value to the following line
"ro.sf.lcd_density= "
