So I ordered a Nexus 5X to replace my MS crippled Nokia N9.
I received it today, started opening it and there was two boxes inside the ups package, one was a 15W usbc to US 110V outlet charger, inside the Nexus box was a LG travel adapter charger (MCS-02WR) and a USB A to USB micro B (CY/EAD62437002 with a sticker from Verizon)
Its pretty weird, I ran the IMEI and its a LG-H791 international version, not sure what all is different, but thought I would post on here to give anyone the heads up considering this.
I was going to get a Moto X Pure, but then that Groupon deal popped up and thought it was a great discount.
I think the Groupon deal mentioned you should be getting a device compatible with Project Fi, which means you should have gotten the 790 version meant for US with band 12 support. Not sure if that matters to you.
Yeah, I ordered this same deal for a friend (also had the two cables/chargers) and he had a heck of a time dealing with Sprint support, because this phone could not be activated. We eventually came to the conclusion that Groupon is advertising this phone as though it's the US H790 version, when it's actually the H791 International Version which is not compatible with Sprint. We were forced to return it, which is unfortunate because it was such a good deal with added coupons and ebates at the time.

I dont remember seeing anything like that in the description, I read it pretty closely to make sure it was compatible with AT&T

Ready for Project Fi
On top of being ready for almost any carrier, the 5X is ready for Google’s ambitious Project Fi. Using specially developed technology, Project Fi continually optimizes both cellular and WiFi connections as you move around, supporting consistent connections even as your phone hops towers or joins wireless networks. It also aims to demystify the billing process with transparent, contract-free plans that you can change anytime right from the phone. (Enrollment in Project Fi not included.)

Yea I double checked and that is the groupon deal I purchased, so what is the point of your earlier post? that I should have gotten an OEM LG charger? or something else?
ALSO I just checked the FCC ID on my phone and its showing ZNFH791
which is the H-791 not the 790

In your original post you mentioned you got the International version.
You didn't mention your carrier back in the first post but did mention you weren't sure what the difference was.
The reply back in April was an effort to be helpful by pointing out the description of what you purchased implied the US version with band 12 support. (If it says Project Fi in the description, then the description must be from the US version because Project Fi won't activate International version.)
For SOME people that might make a difference. In particular if one was thinking of TMobile, band 12 is used for some of their 4g data and also the US version is required to sign up with Project Fi from Google.
Back in April, if it did make a difference to you or anyone who purchased that they get the US version in the description, probably could have returned it for your money back due to them shipping a model that didn't match the description.
I did think it was kind of strange for the seller to send out a frankenstein package of phone and chargers.
The official Nexus 5x package comes with a LG 5V 3A travel charger (MCS-N04**) with just a female USB C connector (ie no cable attached). Also there is a USB C to USB C cable (EAD63687001) that you attach to the charger or to your computer as appropriate for charging or for data transfer/charging. Some international versions also received a USB C to USB A adapter.
Your package seemed to come with a LG travel charger in the Nexus 5x box which couldn't be used with the 5x and then a second (non LG?) charger that seemed like it got included when they realized the included adapter wouldn't work.
Anyway, I am not criticizing your purchase, just giving you information and letting you decide if it is important for your usage.
BTW there was a comment on the deal that the supplied phone was for the German market and Sprint also won't activate it in the US

Ahh I see, sorry if the "what is the point" was taken the wrong way, I was just confused by your post.
I am really disappointed with Groupon/seller sending out the "frankenstein" phone/charger as well, which is why I started this post in the first place to warn other users. BTW I couldnt/cant see any comments or reviews on the groupon deal not sure if its because my script/ad blocking on my browser.
I took some pictures of the unboxing, but they are on my N9, I will try to upload them and post them here.

The specifications listed show ONLY 2100Mhz for UMTS.
Polaris is supposed to be tri-band here.
Perhaps the retailer has mis-listed it, perhaps it's a crippled device batch.
I really dislike this "frigging around"

Now Expansys, UK has altered its spec list to show 2100Mhz ONLY for UMTS.
Could people who have already purchased their unit please comment on this - it is an extremely important question: Polaris was listed as tri-band for UMTS but we are now seeing UK retailers deliberately quoting only 1 band
The website says pre-order, stock due 11th Jan, but also in stock?
Has anyone phoned them up to check if they really are in stock?
Maybe their shopping cart software requires them to show as in-stock for people to be able to order?

That's odd. Are you definitely talking about expansys? I went to the site just now (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=159608&sbadd=159608) and got:
<Begin excerpt from web site>
Handset Only Price: £389.95 (331.87 exc.)
Discounts available for orders of 5 units or more - call +44 (0)161 868 0868
Availability: Due Friday 18th January
If you order this product before 5pm today, UK customers can expect shipment in 15 working days. Add your email address to the box at the bottom to receive an alert message when we get stock.
<End excerpt from web site>
If it's not expansys then which site is it because that's a week earlier the 18th Jan so you've got my attention here.
Edit: Oops. Sorry. Stupid me! I see the initial discussion and just went to in2mobiles.co.uk and now see exactly what you're talking about.

I just called in2mobiles to check a few things. Here is the latest from 5 mins ago:
1) The expected in-stock date is now Jan 14th. The web site hasn't caught up with this yet.
2) Devicewire.co.uk do a good job of explicitly calling out a 2 year warranty (but are also a bit naughty about implying that you won't get this elswhere). This is the main reason I called in2mobiles to see if they also offered the 2 year warranty. In case anyone else was wondering, in2mobiles also get their devices via approved UK HTC sources and as such also carry the full 2 year HTC manufacturer's warranty.
3) While I had someone on the phone I tried to clarify why the spec for the 3G stuff was getting ammended from being tri-band down to only 2100 MHz on some sites (e.g. in2mobiles and Expansys) and whether the UK HTC was going to be tri-band 3G. The guy I spoke to didn't know this and said that the tech guy who might be able to help wouldn't be back until next Thu so I have no more info on this but I did ask!

Thank you for the reply.
This tri-band or not is a critical question and does need a reliable answer for retail stock yet to surface for end-user purchase.
Again, your reply is much appreciated.
Before buying the device, the most reliable word for any product comes from the manufacturer, and its quite clear from the specifications on the European HTC site that its tri-band. It’s superfluous to provide the links, but anyway:
http://www.europe.htc.com/en/products/htctouchcruise.html
http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/products/HTC_Touch_Cruise_DLF_EN.pdf
http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/products/HTC_Touch_Cruise_CH_EN.pdf
http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/products/HTC_Touch_Cruise_PS_EN.pdf
If you follow the official links given for vendors in UK, following also list the tri-band UMTS capability correctly:
http://www.devicewire.co.uk/HTC-Touch-Cruise
http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/PDA/HTC/HTC_TOUCH_CRUISE.html
http://www.inkino.co.uk/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2112
etc.
The confusion is at expansys, where on the left hand side under Description/Features it says 3G/HSDPA Tri-Band, and on right hand side under Technical Details it says UMTS 2100MHz for Europe, both lines even contradiction each other:
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=160076
Given a plethora of information, it would be reasonable to assume its tri-band UMTS.

For Band clarification;
HTML:
Tri-Band HSDPA/UMTS 2100Mhz (Europe), 850/1900Mhz (USA). HSDPA up to 384kbps for upload and 3.6Mbps for download. UMTS up to 384kbps for upload and download. Quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
(Excerpt from HTC Site)
Meaning Europe is only using the 2100Mhz spectrum while the US is using the 850/1900Mhz spectrum.
It's still Tri-Band but the 850/1900Mhz is useless in Europe.

I don’t want to question your style of shopping; it’s every one’s personal matter. If by “hard fact” you mean someone else buying the device, make a test about the tri-band capability and then give a verdict, please proceed. As far as I am concerned, I consider the confusing line at expansys just a mistake (when compared to several other sources of information).
As far as “Device manufacturers change specs without notice,” I think this does not apply to the case when you have completed a deal based on an understanding.
Once again, if you don’t want to buy it just yet, it’s your decision!

By hard fact, I mean the actual hard specifications/price when the device actually retails in the dealers I use. Probably "real soon now"

This one looks nice darling.
When i read the white pages with the correct description, i found 2 websites that sells the xperia play with the US 3G bands

Does anyone ever purchase from any of this 2 websites? one seems to be in FL and the other in NV...
Looks like the bands the difference
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
negrielectronics is showing pre-order
celluloco is showing in stock but i highly doubt that

The xperia play comes in four versions R800i/a/at/x. If you check the white paper on xperia play from SE you'll see It must be region related?

I'm rather curious about these sellers as well. I've been gnashing my teeth waiting for this phone since rumor broke that Sony was seriously working on it last year (and was hoping for something like it for even longer). Has anyone bought from either of these sellers yet?
I've been seeing a lot of the European R800i model. Unfortunately I'm on AT&T, which will require either the R800a or R800at. Both have the same bands, but I suspect the R800a is the generic North American model for both the US and Canada (Rogers seems to be getting this one), while the R800at is probably going to be some sort of AT&T-centric (read: butchered) version. While it would be nice to save some money through the carrier, at this point I'm more inclined to get an unlocked version at retail price. My guess is that it's going to be around $550-600 off-contract when supplies ramp up.
Also, has anyone heard any more on the R800x (Verizon CDMA) version having a SIM card slot? I saw something about that a few weeks ago and wondered if it was at all functional.

from the white pages that we saw a couple of days ago (revealing the model name for each version) we can tell that the CDMA version doesnt have GSM slot, otherwise it will be listed there.
Regarding the release for both the verizon and rogers, apparently both are on the 28th, hopefully we will see the unlocked version as well on the next week, and based on the european price, it will be probably $600 and up...
I cant wait any longer either!! i was even thinking to get the R800i version is the phone is not released this week, since the 3g on tmobile sucks anyways...

Well according to some articles I saw around the beginning of the month, the FCC tear-down of the CDMA model showed that it physically had a SIM slot. Unfortunately the forum won't let me post the links. One of the links thought it could be a for LTE or allow it to act as a world phone. Since there hasn't been any mention of either, it makes me wonder if it's just there for show?

After spending a few minutes chatting with Celluloco guys, i will not trusth them at all. They charge florida taxes, but they dont have a phisical address in FL, when i ask for one, they told me that the address is only for Wholesale accounts, so i ask to open one account, since i'm an importer/exporter and could be usefull. But no, they deny it because they are full, and they are not opening any accounts.
So i ask them the real company name, since they charge FL taxes, they must have a registered company in the FL Bizz Directory, but no, they deny again telling that their company is based on Cayman Islands ?!?!
So long story short... dont buy to this guys, not even a cell charger, its a plain scam, even on facebook (they have a facebook account) there are people claiming that after a week of paying a cell phone, he cant reach a single person to know the status of their order.
I found them on the FL Bizz, and they are a inactive company... what a scam!!

Okay guys,,,,,
Here's the deal I purchased this version of the 7.7
https://www.atgsm.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Phone-SamsungP6800Silver
I only paid $545 for it on ebay. Will tmoible's 3G work on this thing. I know that AT&T 3G works. Funny thing is I put my SIM Card into it and it worked great. Even made calls that were clear to hear via my bluetooth headset. I logged onto AT&T with my home computer and it showed as an unsuportted device so I chose the $15 non-smartphone unlimtted data feature and it worked for a day or 2. Now this morning I got a message .... a text message and an email stating I need to purchase a data plan for tablet or broadband device. I quickly put the sim card back into my old LG C550 flip phone which has media net and sports etc.. a non smart phone.
Question: Can they do this?
Question: How do they know its a tablet if these are internatinal versions.
Question: How can they opt to change your data feature
Question: Why do I need to purchase a data plan even when I didn't get a subsidized device. If I'd known that before I would just opt for an AT&T device.
hmmmmm.. .Makes me think about cancelling my service with AT&T when my contract ends in a few months....
Please help me out here.
1) Of course they can do this. It is their network - they make the rules.
2) Domestic or international - all devices identify themselves the same way. They know it is a P6800. They have obviously updated their tables of what is a tablet...
3) See 1)
4) See 1)
I recommend get a provider that serves your area, but has less rules. T-mobile is great, but pretty poor coverage. At least they let you use any compatible device and don't force you to buy a data plan with prepaid service. ATT and Verizon are similar to each other, but at least ATT does not cripple features.
Just seems odd.....
It seems odd.... My daughter has been using the Tmobile Samsung Vibrant (It has AT&T 3G bands in my area) for 2 years on AT&T with the unlimitted non smartphone rate of $15 per month and has never received any message about getting a data plan for smartphones. That is why I asked the question. Isn't the vibrant the same as the captivate with the differecne in the bands that work...... This just seems a bit strange.......... ARGGGG... Maybe I should have just looked for the wi-fi only model. .. too late for me becuase the seller charges a 15% restocking fee... besides I did get a good deal on it.
You point out one of the advantages in GSM phones. There are a variety of carriers that support GSM, and allow devices not their own on their network. AT&T is good about that. It gives you some choice. As far as I know, Verizon only accepts devices sold by them.
Just wondering
I was just wondering. It still seems odd. Think i will just cancel the service when the term expires in a few months. The first snafu was when they merged my accounts .. the rep told me we woudld keep the $30 unlimitted plan on my wife's iphone but when i merged the accounts the option was gone and they refused to get it back..... anyway..i am just venting... That is the power of the consumer.. if you dont' like it take my money somewhere else. only pitfall is in my area AT&T has good serivce.

Here is the link $545 you may be able to make a best offer on a few of the seller's other item. Don't know how they do it but it shipped to me really fast..

That's all he had left. I don't see the one I got. but if you check the feedback you will see its legit.
The 7.0 Plus $Ebay

You list one from Australia and one from the UK. Did either you or your friend get hit with Customs charges? That can make a real difference in price.
The Hong Kong merchants seem to be very creative at avoiding Customs charges (they lie).
No customs
I got mine for Austriala.. .didn't have any customs fees. The one from hong kong had no customs fees. it was listed as a photo frame on the form. so there was no custom import fee..

Please help me out here.

so, nobody got confused here? am I the only one?
1st of all your title said that you had the 3g/wifi version, and you gave the link for it, meanwhile, you get it a lot cheaper on ebay, which kinda tempting me to get one
i go through on all your link, the one you get yours ($545) and the one your friend get, and both of them are wifi only, yet you stated that you put in your sim card, and you get 3g on AT&T?
are you under prescription or something?
and there's the 3rd link about 7.0 plus aka P6200 which confused me even more, about what's the point of that link you gave? duh
Wow My apologies

I assure you I have the 3G international version. I will post a copy of my receipt. My apologies for the incorrect link. I will get it and post it shortly. I can't find the link however as one of the posters replied negri has it on sale. Maybe I just got lucky I don't know but it works and I stand by my posts. Do you need me to post videos or photos of me inserting the SIM card and getting the AT&T 3G and of me making a phone call. I can do that. The intention of my initial post was not to post a deal....it was simply a few questions I had about the device and AT&T practices. There are many other sources where you can obtain price cuts and deals just search with GOOGLE. On anohter note.....AMAZON has a few sellers who sell the item. There are 4 or 5 online and or local stores located in New York City also. I hope this helps. If I come across a good deal froma reputatble seller I will post it.
nah, no need. since you already admit that it was wrong link you posted
I just had a glimpse of hope of getting tab 7.7 for quite cheap like you did, but I did need 3g, not wifi only ^^
I dont live in NYC so local store is out of question for me
They did release it in my country but its the 32gb version and pretty expensive I'd say (around $820)
Whilst i already have 32gb micro sd so I think 16gb version is enough

Your first post, you said you paid 545 for thr 3G version....

Then a few post later.. you said yes indeed you got the 3g version for 545 again... and posted another link or 2...
Both these links showed Wi-Fi versions only..
Im curious as to a correct link to your 545 dollar 3g version...
thanks for making this happen.....
Id like to recommend your seller to another person...
IF you can supply a link to the 3g version at $545...

I posted the link however as stated it was an incorrect link. I think I may have just got lucky and the seller sent me a 3G version or maybe the seller had the wrong decription either way... I am glad I got a deal. I don't know what else to tell you. You could possilby wait a few months and anticipate the price dropping due to all the new devices slated to hit the scene. As many of us know playing the waiting game for prices or next generation hardware is futile. I'd say..... buy the best you can get for the price you can pay and use the device the way you want. I find it is often pointless to wish for the stars knowing you don't want to part with your hard earned cash. So its either pay up or just play the waiting game. I don't mean to sound sarcastic but I have been getting private messages from people blasting me about the link I posted and how I need to hurry up and post the correct link. I posted the link that I used to get the device..... "Maybe the seller botched up and sent me the wrong item""" Good for me I guess ............ In any event I'd say stick with what you can afford and if not just don't buy anything .........
You can try this one.. very good
Yes its $645 but you do get it overnight from overseas to USA>

First and foremost, my invites are already spoken for if and when I get them (none issued yet). I feel for those that didn't get one, but then again after my experience it may be worthwhile to wait for a newer batch or even avoid the OPO all together.
Also, I don't post very often so I apologize if this is in the wrong forum for whatever reason.
Alright, so I was pretty excited to see that I won an invite to purchase a OnePlus One through the Storm of Invites contest. I had been looking forward to this phone since I'd been between the Nexus 5, Moto X, and Note 3 for the past 6 months without really loving any of them.
Here's the story so far (some emails are condensed to stay relevant and on topic).
June 26, 7:32AM
I get the email with the invite. Words of interest in the email:
This invite indicates that there is a One ready and waiting for you in our warehouse so it will ship within three days of purchase.

I create an account and purchase the phone. $349.99 USD + $27.99 USD Express Shipping = $377.98 USD = $415 CAD after conversion (I'm in Canada).
July 1, 11:52AM
I get this email from OnePlus, as I'm sure many others did:
Thank you for your recent order of the OnePlus One. You're probably aware that your package has not yet shipped. We wanted to let you know that though your order has been processed, your device will likely ship on the 9th of July.
We apologize for the delay in your shipment as we work to optimize our logistics processes and will continue to refine our operations to ensure a seamless process in the future. As a show of gratitude for your patience, we'll be adding two invites to the three you're already receiving so you can share them with your friends and family. All five of these invites will be placed in your account in July.

I receive this email from OnePlus:
High five! Your order has been shipped. Please check the status of your package by checking your store account
Software updates moving forward will be handled via an Over-the-Air (OTA) update. Future updates will bring additional features and general improvements to the software.

I pull up the tracking info and it's still just "Shipping details submitted electronically."
July 3, 6:22PM
Shipment picked up from Los Angeles, California. Alright, some movement!
July 4, 6:57PM
DHL is at my door, fantastic! Definitely the fastest shipping I've had to date - crazy... Wait, what's this?! A $32 CAD customs charge at the door? Wow. The phone that was once $349 USD is now worth $447 CAD (roughly $420 USD). Oh well, it's in my hands! Awesome!
July 4, 7:05PM
After taking the phone out of the box, I notice it requires a micro SIM, I've been using a nano SIM for a while in my Moto X so I head to my local carrier and grab a new SIM for $5 (grand total $452 CAD). Power on phone, get an OTA update immediately. Reboot, and then once I open the browser (primarily white screen) I notice the infamous "yellow band" along the bottom. Whatever, not a big deal.
July 4, 7:30PM
After playing with the phone for a while I notice that the rear-facing camera (you know, the primary one) isn't recognized by the phone at all. No apps at all have the "switch camera" button and a hardware information app doesn't even know it exists. I open a support ticket.
July 5 - July 6
Blah blah in the support ticket - I did basic troubleshooting to prove the issue (factory reset, check for updates), and then I ask the following 3 questions:
1) Are replacement units in stock and when could I expect to receive one?
2) I was charged $30 in customs fees when receiving the phone, is that going to happen again with the replacement? Am I on the hook for any shopping costs as well?
3) Would the replacement unit be refurbished, brand new, or are you simply planning on repairing mine and shipping it back to me?

I get the following response:
1. Yes, we do have stock reserved for replacements.
2. There are no shipping costs for replacements, but I do have to check about the issue of Canadian customs fees – please let me get back to you on that.
3. Your replacement unit will be brand new!

Receive email asking me to now open an RMA ticket instead of a support ticket... Alright, kinda figured they'd just do that for me, but sure. I can do that. Also provide them with the IMEI at their request which, for some reason, they don't have on file.
July 8, 12:16AM
Follow up on my last unanswered email, asking again about whether or not I'm going to be charged for customs.
July 8, 3:28AM
Fast response! "Approved. Let's ship from HK and pay for customs ourselves." was all I got. Sounds good, let's do this!

July 8, 8:19PM
My response:
What courier is it? Can I drop it off somewhere instead? If not, between 5-7PM MST Mon-Fri.
On another note, will the version of OnePlus One from China be any different from the one I received from North America?
Please provide an estimated ETA for the courier to come and pick up the faulty unit. I receive an email from them clarifying the difference between Chinese and global versions:
China version and global version could support different bands.
The OnePlus One global supports these bands:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz
WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8
LTE: Bands: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
The Chinese version OnePlus One supports below bands:
GSM:850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
TD-SCDMA:1800-1920 / 2010-2025
WCDMA*:2100 / 1900 / 850 / 900
TD-LTE:2570-2620 / 1880-1920 / 2300-2400
FDD-LTE*:2100 / 1800 / 2600
* WCDMA and FDD-LTE only available during international roaming.

The intent was to save me time, but I don't think it's working. I've since requested that they cancel all of the Hong Kong/China RMA, and just RMA it normally through the USA. At least then I'll get a phone that works, even if I have to fight over the customs to get it here.
July 15, 4:00PM
Alright, so I spent most of last week arguing and dealing with OnePlus over shipping details and such for the replacement. To sum it up, I was told that it would be the international version, that it would ship from China to avoid customs fees, and that I wouldn't be paying a dime.
Fast forward to July 14 - the phone ships! Tracking information! Hoorah!
Wait, DHL?!?! From California??
Thanks for listening OnePlus. I called DHL today once it cleared customs and was told that the fees I would be responsible for at the door would be $34.71. Again. DHL mentioned that OnePlus did not mark ANYWHERE on the package that it was a warranty replacement, and that if they had the fees would have only been $10 for processing. So screw you OnePlus, and screw you DHL for trying to charge me processing for nothing.
I argued with them about it for quite some time, but it sounds like I'm pretty much screwed.
July 16, 9:50PM
Alright, so finally some good news!
To my extreme surprise, I received a call from Andy at OnePlus this morning. I had actually requested a phone call during the initial RMA request, so after several weeks without a call I definitely wasn't expecting one now. This is the only response I have had since informing OnePlus that there were customs charges on the second shipment a few days ago, so I was impressed to see that they were concerned enough to actually call about it. That, and I left some pretty heated words in the support ticket that may have forced the call. I'm not sure, but either way I was definitely happy to receive the call.
Anyhow, Andy assured me that if I did indeed get charged a second set of customs charges that OnePlus would have no problem reimbursing them for me. He sent a follow up email so that I knew where to send the invoice/receipt to, and so that's where things are sitting now.
On a side note, I managed to negotiate the charges down with DHL from $35 to $15, but not without providing them every single piece of proof I had (export paperwork with TNT, commercial invoice, copies of RMA info from 1+ website, etc.) that I had shipped the other unit back to them. Even still, I am hoping that they hold up their offer and reimburse the remaining amount.
Summary
The $350 "Flagship Killer" phone turned into a $450 "D.O.A." phone really fast.
OnePlus has had my money for nearly 2 weeks.
I have a OnePlus One with a faulty camera in a box that I can't use.
I have no idea when a courier is going to come pick it up.
I'm really hoping I'm lucky enough to be at home when they show up.
My new phone won't even ship from OnePlus until they receive the faulty one....
In China.
And then it has to ship back to Canada...
From China.
Joke's on me! It's DHL again...
And another $35 in customs fees, yay!
Updated Below:
Managed to negotiate DHL brokerage fees down from $35 to $15
Andy from OnePlus called me directly, offering to reimburse the second set of customs charges if applicable
Submitted invoice/receipt to 1+, just waiting now.
I'm aware that there is a chance the camera issue could be related to a bad flash or something software-related, but I'm not bothering with any of that in the off chance that it's actually a hardware issue. Better safe than sorry.
Presumably you already paid upon importing the phone so tax/duty doesn't apply for warranty repaired items. As long as the shipping label clearly states "warranty repair" you shouldn't get a problem.
FWIW I had a weird update too but fastboot oem unlock and reset cleared it up.

I completely agree, there's no way I should be hit with customs charges a second time on something I've already purchased by they couldn't promise it.
DHL is the only company that has consistently hit me with customs charges.

I think there is just some confusion regarding the "Chinese" phone. I doubt they were every planning on shipping you a Chinese version of the phone. Both versions are produced in China, so just because your phone was going to be shipped directly from China, it doesn't mean it wasn't going to be the international version. By shipping directly from Hong Kong, they could pay for the custom fee in one shot. If they sent it from the North America distribution center, it adds another layer of complexity that they didn't want to deal with. Their comments didn't say anything about shipping you a Chinese version - I think you read too much into their comments.

Instead of saying they were shipping me the same model, they told me the models were different and she couldn't guarantee it would work properly here.
Damn Really sorry to hear that!
Friends ordered 2 from china, the LTE bands don't matter since we live in Europe i hope for them that they don't get a faulty one.
So the hardware from the international one and the Chinese one are really different? I thought it was just software, kernel related or whatever. So there is no way to mod the modem to work exactly like the international one.
I hope for you that this gets resolved!
Heads-up to OP: I read a couple other ppl have reported camera not detected on an earlier build of CM-11s, upgrade fixed it. Have you tried factory wipe & install CM11 M8?

Well I think she misunderstood your question too. I think she was simply stating how the two versions were different. I wouldn't take her response as a confirmation that they were sending out a Chinese version.
You have to remember that English may not be the native language of the people you are getting support from......
All in all, I think there has just been a misunderstanding in the communication. I really doubt they were sending you a Chinese version to replace an International version unless you specifically asked for it.

Thanks, and I believe the hardware is more or less the same but in order to use North American bands you need to flash a radio and I'm a bit nervous to do anything like that with this phone in case it's an actual hardware problem. I'm worried that OnePlus may try to refuse warranty support because of it.

"All in all," I think you're voicing your opinion much like I've voiced mine, and I'm not sure why we're still arguing about it... You're allowed to interpret that conversation however you like, just like I did.
In my opinion, when I ask if the model I'll be receiving from China is different from the one I purchased in North America and they come back to me with "China version and global version could support different bands" that tells me that they are likely sending me a different model that "could support different bands."
If it makes you happy, technically speaking neither of us are right since it hasn't happened yet.
Yeesh.

Yeesh.

We're not gonna replace it with a Chinese version, that was just a bit of lost in translation action.

Excellent, yes I had just confirmed that with the customer service rep this morning.
For future reference, TNT shipping is possibly the worst courier for returns from a consumer.
They only pick up from 8AM-5PM Mon-Fri (which is when I and most people work), you cannot drop it off anywhere for them, I need to provide (create) a commercial invoice with my signature, provide customs information (ie: export license, some sort of harmonized code?), all of which I don't have since I'm just a consumer, and provide them with 4 copies of all of this, signed and dated.
Here begins the hour of paperwork and printing required to return my defective product. There has got to be an easier way.
Oh right, and a lithium battery form too....

Oh dude, I know. I've been wondering for so long why there isn't a startup delivery service that ONLY hires people willing to work when the rest of us are at home. Oh well. We're not happy either about how this is turning out, so keep us updated (via your customer support contact) and we'll evaluate the procedure. In non-business speak - we're looking for a better provider, but I'm aware that doesn't help you at this point.
Wow I am really sorry to read that, I like must of us had to wait a week or 2 to actually get the phone (express shipping dont do any difference) but thank God my phone is flawless (knock on wood), I hope that was an isolated issue.
Good luck.
I realize it's in the other thread but buried in the latter pages. To bring this up to the top, I have the Rogers variant and ordered the pin-compatible Qi back. Was pretty elated when it arrived since the back finish color matched exactly (came from a D855). Snapped it on and -- nothing. Was sure all my Qi chargers work since other devices charge fine. Do a recent search and an obscure Facebook post from LG confirms Canadian variants are Powermat only.
Had I known this, I would have not purchased this phone. It's a huge deal breaker since I have Qi deployed literally everywhere...
Unfortunately pre-release or early write-ups like these one were misleading about Qi compatibility:
( can't post a link so search these keywords... "my first impressions of the lg g3 howardforums" )

which case did you order? The Slim Guard? If so, I'll buy that off you.

I ordered the exact same coloured case back as the Canadian G3 except it has Qi -- it's not the Slim Guard. The pinouts are for the non-Korean model (gap in middle between contacts).

Oh, so you ordered the standard battery cover, but with Qi-North American pins? I've been looking for the Slim Guard here in Canada, I know the Slim Guard also has Qi charging, and even though I know it wouldn't work with Qi chargers… I'm set on that case. It's a nice looking, slim battery cover replacement.
And yes, to go back into the topic; I don't know why LG would think PMA is the route to go… AFAIK, LG has to pay royalties to PMA, as where Qi is free (I THINK). I have never seen PMA chargers in Futureshop/Bestbuy. I've seen Qi compatible chargers in various places though! That's some really bad move on LG's behalf.

For cases I've ordered a few off eBay including a nice Nillkin which hasn't arrived. I'm ok with the over sharpened screen but PMA... my God. I have the LG G2 and was super stoked for the G3 since all I wanted left was Qi wireless charging. I even laughed when ATT restricted their version to PMA but Canada... what are you doing?
I'm contemplating dumping this and getting a D855 as I value Qi more than full speed LTE. Unless I'm mistaken, there are no non-Canadian versions that can take full LTE here.
Watching the other XDA thread closely entitled:
"LG G3 D855 Euro Model on Rogers Wireless - does LTE work ?"

Are you with Robbers? I believe some Canadians have been saying that D855 (T-Mo's) will work just fine with Canadian network. It's too much work for me to even consider, importing 855, etc; and researching the LTE bands available.
If you live in Toronto, Pacific Mall might have some shops that sell T-Mo's D855.

Just posting some more research. I'm in TO on robbers indeed... I've considered PMall before, perhaps I'll give it another shot. At least it will save me from unlocking.
Some feedback for others thinking about getting the D855 for Rogers. I finally got the D855 in and tested it. Out of the box, it does not connect to LTE. The only available options were GSM and WCDMA, set on auto or manual. Connections would only show 3G or H (HSPA).
After some research, and testing, I finally managed to connect to Rogers' LTE MAX network (2600Mhz).
Steps taken:
1) Loaded HKG firmware using TOT/DLL method. You can find the firmware and instructions here here: [ALL Variants] Update / Restore to Stock you… | LG G3 | XDA Forum - I used the 32GB version.
2) Once loaded, you will see the option to set it to GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto. Before it was just GSM / WCDMA Auto.
3) Unfortunately, this still didn't work and I was still showing 3G and H. Speed tests would also show that it was on HSPA.
4) I then typed 3845#*855# on the keypad to access the secret menu. There I manually switched it to LTE Band 7, which represents the LTE Max 2600Mhz network.
5) I also had to add a new APN (ltemobile.apn). It came with the normal one (rogers-core-app1.apn).
6) After all that, I changed the network mode back to GSM / WCDMA / LTE Auto. Almost immediately, it would now show 4G, instead of H.
7) Ran a speed test just in case, and it is indeed LTE speeds
And yes it has wireless charging built-in (four pins in the back of the phone, and case).

Does the d855 has qi charging on his regular pack cover? I see it has 4 pins and some mat on the back...

I don't think it's LG, I think it's the carriers.

The model number for T-Mobile G3 is D851. D855 is the international version. And yes D851 has pretty much every single carrier in Canada covered (including WIND and Mobilicity thanks to its support on band 2 and 4).

I checked last weekend at Pacific Mall. Most stores are selling unlocked D855 32GB for $720, while one particular store is selling it for $680. None of the stores have the D851.

Thanks for that info! So according to my quote above from another XDA thread, I should be able to take the D855, flash a different rom and get LTE on Rogers. If the "one particular store" is selling the 32GB for $680 then it's not a shabby deal given Expansys wants $700+. Do you happen to know which store it was or at least which aisle perhaps?

Thanks for the correction! Glad I haven't been telling people the wrong info
Since you seem to know a lot about Pmall… now, is there a place I can find myself Xiaomi phones?

It`s close to the entrance where there`s an escalator... So that after you enter from there the side of the mall with windows should be on your left. The cell phone store on your right (the last aisle), and the first or second cell phone store there is the one lol. Hope it doesn`t sound too confusing.
P.S.: It`s a pretty small store and they don`t have the G3 on display. You just have to ask though.

Haha it`s okay got lucky and found a great deal on eBay 2 days ago. Now I am just waiting for it to arrive :victory:
Thanks for that, the lack of Qi and having 32GB will likely steer me there today...
