Ever got frustrated when you are connected to Wifi and you get disconnected because your device goes to sleep mode? Then this application is for you.
Just launch DontSleep and either click on CLOSE to exit the application or HIDE to use it.

because you don't want to have to go into settings everytime you want to use wifi. and you don't want to leave your settings at 30 minutes because it's a waste of power when NOT using wifi.

cool app oldsap!! one question. is there anyway to add an exceptions list for say the apps u want the phone to automatically NOT go into sleep while you're in them. im trying to make this a permanent solution for my fuze going to sleep on calls and some apps that would be awesome and if thats not the original intent, sorry and still a great app thanks

Actually, that's a great idea. It would be nice to prevent sleep (or perhaps extend the timeout a bit) whilst particular applications are active (web browsing, photos/video, ebook reading), but allow sleep when none of these have focus (i.e. may be minimised). It is annoying when you are reading a book, get distracted for a minute, then turn back to find your phone is off and locked

great idea kwill. but that would mean DontSleep should always be running in the background to monitor the running applications. i'll try to figure this out.

without killing Wifi? i'll test it

well, im glad you all found that thought useful (now im 1 for 2 on the day) is there a way to add exceptioned apps that way dontsleep knows which app is being used and then invokes itself and then closes itself when the corresponding app is exited? im no programmer or dev., just going about it logically and as easily as possible.

Would you be able to upload files to xda? Cant download from rapidshare!
Also Would you be bale to make similar application that runs in background and while this application is running device will auto suspend(backlight off) in 10sec or pre-defined time. THX

i was thinking of having the application monitor the idle time (when there is no activity by the user) and at a predefined time, will suspend it's "dontsleep" function. but this would mean the app should always be running in the background, which will then consume more battery juice.
any thoughts on this?

Iam driving alot and with sprint phones everytime they switch to different tower backlight will go on and it takes usually a min for it to go off. While Iam driving 70mph on parkway it happenes like every 3-5 mins so Iam looking for some solution to that.

So lets say during that time i want to run a program that will make my backlight go off in 10 sec instead of regular backlight timeout (1min) .
Not only glare but it killing battery too !!

won't you get speeding tickets at that speed?

Tasker Profiles and Tasks for the Continuum?

Is anyone in the Samsung Continuum forum interested in tasker profiles specifically for the Continuum? I have several that I use and am willing to post. Over the last 60 days or so... (I've only have the Continuum for 60 days?!?!?! Damn!) I have used Tasker profiles almost since day one. The problem that I found, while reading the tasker wiki and other tasker posts, was that many of the tasks and profiles needed to be modified to work with the Continuum, and some would not work at all.

So, I set about teaching myself how to tasker... I figured I have a rudimentary background in programming (although it is 20+ years old), and I do bash and perl and Windows command line scripting, so why not? It can't really be that difficult... (You know, every time I tell myself that, I should just walk away...) I am still learning and am interested in what others have as well...
1. WIFI on at home and work and off everywhere else. This uses WIFI Near and Cell Near contexts.
2. Sunrise/Sunset. This goes out and retrieves the sunrise and sunset times for the current day. It uses the HTTP Get context, GPS Location context, multiple variable sets and splits, and finally sets the variables %SUNRISE and %SUNSET with the time in 24 hour format. It also writes these times out to two separate files. It's not necessary, however, I thought that I might need the files for something... what, I don't know yet.
I have this run every day at 04:00 to set that day's sunrise and sunset times; primarily for the next profile.
3. Power profile. This uses the variables, %SUNRISE and %SUNSET, that were set in the previous profile. It then compares the current time to both. If the time is between sunrise and sunset, then it activates the Daytime profile. If it is from sunset to sunrise, then it activates the Nighttime profile. Exit task runs DisplayLockOn.
4. Daytime profile. Turns Auto Brightness off. Changes Display Brightness to 200. Stay On with AC or USB power. Never sleeps WIFI. Keyguard is OFF.
5. Nighttime profile. Sets Initial Brightness to 60 (I don't think this has any real effect with Auto Brightness on). Turns on Auto Brightness.
6. DisplayLockOn. Sets Auto Brightness to ON. Sets Stay On to NEVER. Turns Keyguard on. Sets WIFI Sleep to DEFAULT.
7. Incoming call during the day sets brightness to full. Uses the same Sunrise/Sunset context.
8. Locate phone by SMS. Send a keyword SMS to the phone and it replies with it's location on Google Maps.
9. Locate phone by Sound. Send a keyword SMS to the phone and it "screams" so I can locate it in the house.
10. ReadIncomingSMSMessage. If the volume is set to something other than vibrate or silent, it will read the incoming SMS message.
11 and more. I have other contexts that allow me to turn haptic feedback off by a widget, turn screen rotation on/off by a widget (which isn't really needed with the Froyo build because the button is in the status menu pull down). I have a couple of launcher menus that launch from a widget or a shortcut. I had one that announced the incoming caller ID, however, it doesn't quite work, and then I found the Accessibility setting that announces the caller, so haven't put any more work into the tasker task.
If there is interest in this thread , I willl post each of my tasker profiles and tasks for each of the ones I've listed (and probably add more
). If you would rather have "step-throughs", let me know that too. So, let's TASKER!

Tasker is a utility that allows you to "custom program" or "custom automation" your phone. Some people claim that Tasker extends your battery... Personal experience, it does not, however, I REALLY, REALLY like the automation thingy... I suffer from CRS, that is why I write most stuff down... I just can't remember, until I'm almost home, to turn my WIFI off, and by then it's too late, because I want my WIFI on for home. (It sucks getting old... Wait, I've always been this way! Damn!)

You have created some interesting Tasker profiles: nice work. I got into Tasker about a month ago to automate as much as I could. I used to use Easyprofiles but the problem with that program is if you operat outside of the defined profiles you create it would cause more problems than it was worth.
One question: what kind of scripting, 3rd party programs, or events did you use to have Tasker read your incoming texts? I would love something like that for my car bluetooth rule.

Thanks, however, I just posted the profiles I have modified and currently use. I didn't actually post anything substantial. Anyhow...
To answer your question, I use the Say context. Here is the extract from my ReadIncomingSMS profile:

(Although I could use call and have it read through my bluetooth headset.)

Download the app called App Ops and it will let you configure the permissions... If that is what you are looking for...

This is actually a menu I found inside the Sounds and Notifications part of the Settings menu, where you have a list of apps and you can configure them to be Priority or Blocked.
There was a Sensitive setting, which still shows up as gray text underneath the apps where I set them (along with Blocked and Priority when necessary) so apparently my S5 remembers I once configured several apps to be explicitly Sensitive.
I thought this behavior was intentional, so I was really disappointed when my S5 wouldn't hide the things I marked as Sensitive when I set lock screen notifications to Show All, and I was disappointed again when I set the notification mode to Hide Sensitive and it didn't show the notifications I had marked as not being Sensitive.
But now this option has disappeared. Is it available in your phone, like my screenshot?

Ok.... Found it but in mine it is little different...
It is till under the same area, Sound and Notifications.
It says App Notifications
But the thing is.... In mine, when I go in that app notifications, It just gives me only one option.... "Show notifications" with check box.
It does not show the options like yours...

Odd. Do you have a Priority mode, and if so, maybe you have to enable it first?
I manually set some of my apps to be Sensitive before the option was revoked.
None of the Sensitive-marked apps show the option, so I can no longer make any app Sensitive. The app I have a screenshot of above also no longer has the option, indicating something's changed.

I had the same problem. It seems to be implemented opposite how I thought. You have to choose "Show all content", then choose what apps' notifications should be treated as sensitive.

Marshmallow - Missing functions (Doze/App Standby; System UI Tuner)

Hi all,
I finally updated my H440n via "LG PC Suite" from Android 5.0.1 (rooted) to Android 6 (which is quite nice and very fast in comparison to 5.0.1). Before I did that, I tried to inform me as good and much as possible.
Hence, there are several features/functions I was looking forward to, inter alia:
1) System UI Tuner (activated via long-pressing the Settings-Symbol in the Quick Settings Dropdown) --> Does not work
2) Doze/App Standby (should be in the Battery-Menu under a submenu; via the three dots in the right-up corner) --> The three dots are not there
In the general thread I believe to remember that, with respect to (1), LG was not implementing the System UI Tuner; so one would only find it in an AOSP ROM, correct?
As far as (2) is concerned, I'm a bit "shocked" not finding this option/menu. Besides the App Permission Management (without root) these two features/functions were a main reason in upgrading the firmware. Does anyone know if Doze is active without any "settings"? Regarding App-Standby I believe it is missing, as there is no settings menu, so the user is unable to exclude an app from this Standby; am I right? Or is there any way to activate it (e.g. via the - mainwhile activated - developers menu)? :fingers-crossed:

PS: Meanwhile I, again, use Greenify (as a replacement for App Standby).

Doze is enabled by default on all devices, if I remember correctly. While it might not show any options, It feels like it's definitely there when looking at the battery life. Also, I use Force Doze to send my phone into doze more often / faster than by default.

As far as I can recall, ForceDoze can enable the original MM feature and add some more settings. However, I've read somewhere that the reason why it's disabled is that LG has implemented their version of the doze function natively, like they integrated features of the Tuner to their own ecosystem. Something that basically suspends apps under certain circumstances. And battery management available for many apps unlocks the full potential for that behaviour. Personally, I've tested the ForceDoze and the untampered feature for LG, and LG is noticeably better. If I genuinely use my phone rarely, distributed in large blocks of time, I can extend battery life to up to three days. That tells me that there's definitely something under the hood, and that it works.

Thanks so far. I hoped that LG implemented it, only without showing any settings/menu.
On the contrary, since I use Android 6, my 1WeatherWidget is not refreshing the "clock" any more. After about half an hour it gets stuck. Just if I open the App via tapping the weather of that widget, the clock refreshes to the current time. The android clock and the alarm are luckily not affected. Could that be a failure of the LG-implemented doze?
In the general App-Menu, under the point "Battery Management" at any app installed so far, there is no settings-possiblity at all. This is why I was wondering, if LG really implemented anything (Doze/App Standby) in their MM ROM.
Besides, both of you didn't mention "App Standby", which would be a bit tricky by LG to implement without offering the user any kind of whitelist, right? :silly:
Thanks for the hint with force doze, which I already read a while ago here on XDA, but interpreted it wrong. I found this feature in Greenify too under "agressive doze". As I already use that app I will give it a try in Greenify in a few days (try to whitelist "1WeatherWidget") and keep you updated.

I think LG took a different approach.
The screenshot above is from my battery usage app list. AquaMail has a setting to ignore battery optimization, and it works whenever I get an email, no matter the inactivity period. I've only found one other app that gave the option. (No weather app, btw. - if you find one, let me know!)
It seems that the app must provide some concrete setting in order for this doze exception to be functional. I have no idea if this is a Marshmallow thing, an LG quirk, or simply a case of a really good app developer, because the AquaMail development cycle is off the charts.
The option, if it exists, is only accessible from the battery view. The only way I've found to check is if you go to Apps, select an app, and then review its battery usage. Though this doesn't work if the app wasn't used in a while.
On a different note, it might be possible to access this battery menu if it was secreted away by LG. There are several such menus, like one for multi window management, that are actually present in the rom, just not functional on our device. Many can be accessed by some apps like More Shortcuts, that list all the calls of a given app, like Settings. Though it requires much more research...

Well I'll be. This was easier than I'd thought. You need to use a custom shortcut app like More shortcuts, and find the shown activity within the settings.
This is what you get:
WhatsApp and AquaMail were already checked. I presume this is the exclusion list. Checked my weather app in there, hopefully I 'll know by morning.

I set system language on German (Austria) and needed some time to find it under "Optimierungen ignorieren" but now I have a shortcut on the homescreen right into that hidden menu. Great man. :good: Also thanks to Alanon for the hint with "More shortcuts" (from now on Ms).
After installing Ms, my wheater app 1weather suddenly was on that whitelist. But I remember that there was no option before installing Ms. Also after unticking the checkbox and deinstalling Ms, I could not see the "menu point" in the app viewer (or under the battery statistics) again. So it seems for me that Ms is a nice assistance for battery saving (and whitelisting) reasons.
I will know check, if the clock of 1weather (and besides: also of some other weather widgets except AccuWeather) keep in time. I will report soon.

Thank you so ****ing much Alanon! I thought that activity was still there (I have a LG X Power, and LG has also hidden that option at Battery Settings), I just needed to find some way to launch it. I've searched and used the ****ty app Activity Launcher but it hadn't showen me that activity, but now it worked like a charm with More Shorcuts. Thank you!

[Tutorial][Tasker]Supercharge Your K8 with Tasker

What is Tasker?​Tasker is an automation app for Android. The basic concept with Tasker is “if X happens, do Y,” where the ridiculous number of Xs and Ys available making it as complex as it is. An example of a relatively simple Tasker setup is “if the phone is put upside down while ringing, mute the sound,” but the sky is the limit for how complex something can be.
Why should I learn Tasker?​Learning Tasker is guaranteed to revolutionize how you use your Android device. Tasker gives you the ability to custom tailor your device the way you want it, so that you’re not forced to use some lowest common denominator product. I personally have replaced a lot of actual apps with Tasker creations I have made myself, and custom made those to fit my exact needs.
Can anyone learn Tasker?​Tasker shares some similarities with programming, but that’s by no means a prerequisite for learning it. Having an analytical mind that thrives on logical thinking will however help you a lot, and it doesn’t hurt if you’re creative either. The more experience you have with using software of any kind, the easier it will also be to use Tasker, because this is not an app that comes with a user manual, and so you have to be able to use common sense and just try to see what happens a lot of the time. Because of that, impatient people who expect everything to be handed to them should stay as far away from Tasker as possible.
For a head start, you can skip the learning curve, and just import the ready-made Tasker profiles that I have made for Lenovo K8 Note (Root not required).
Downloading & Setup Tasker, Importing things:​Tasker gathers various information from all the sensors and os. So it need almost all the permissions of a device. That’s why I strongly recommend to download Taker from play store. A hacker may design a modified version of Tasker that can send sensitive private data over the internet (For example, Tasker can capture image with the front cam and send it to a remote location without any user interaction). Please check the functionality of a profile that isn’t created by you.
Setup: After downloading launch Tasker> Upper right corner menu> Preferences. In the UI tab disable Beginner Mode; in the MONITOR tab make sure Run in Foreground is checked. You can disable the notification icon by clearing ‘Show notification icon’. A permanent notification of Tasker will be on phone and this is important. Make sure any power saving feature/app like Greenify is not blocking Tasker from running in background.
Now go back from preferences> Menu> More>Android Settings> Enable all the permissions there.
Importing things: Tasker has four tabs on main screen: PROFILES, TASKS, SCENES, VARIABLES. A Profile is a condition (the ‘X’) with linked Task (the ‘Y’). A Task (which is normally linked with a Profile) is the action which will be performed by tasker if the condition of the linked Profile is met.
I’ll upload all the Profiles, Tasks required to achieve a functionality in zip file. De-compress/extract the zip file in a known location> Click on respective tab on Tasker> Import> point to the location of extracted files.
Get-Started:​Bluetooth Auto Off:
Tasker will show a notification (With a button to disable Bluetooth) if Bluetooth is on for 5 min and no device is connected.

At 15% Battery it will say loudly that it need a recharge. At 5% Battery, you’ll get a notification with error beep. And finally when the battery is fully charged, the device will say that loudly.

Get a List of Players when Headset is Connected:
You will get a list of pre-configured apps to launch quickly whenever you connect a headset in 3.5 mm jack and it will set media volume to 11 (in a scale of 15). This profile needs manual configuration: you can add/remove apps to the list. Go to Tasks> Headphone Connect> Menu> Items to modify the list.

Add the missing Sound profile and Google sync toggle to Quick tiles
Tasker provides three custom quick tile toggles. Import the three tasks in Tasker. Then go to Menu> Preferences> Action> Configure the Quick Settings tasks as shown:
Now Edit your quick tiles and drag the first two Tasker tiles into visible tiles list:

It depends on the tasks you are performing. For example if you configure a task that need to monitor your location continuously, then obviously it should drain battery. But for the profiles I have uploaded here, you'll never see tasker on the settings>battery.
