Simultaneous Voice Call and Data - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have the international Exynos version of the S7 Edge and find cellular data stops working as soon as the phone gets on a voice call. The H+ symbol disappears, browsing stops working etc. At home it is not a problem as the phone is connected to Wifi and voice calls don't effect it, however, out and about, when on cellular data, internet is all lost.
Is it that the s7 doesn't allow simultaenous voice+Data?. I thought that was a problem with Verizon only, GSM (AT&T etc) versions don't have that problem?.

Have the same version and same issue. Heard that it's not possible to do voice and data together...Not sure how true it is

Got tmobile in the usa.
I have always been able to talk and use the net at the same time.
I do it all the time. Seems like no one knows how to looks stuff up so they always call me.
This worms for me on network 4g and wifi

I have the same problem on my g935f unlocked in europe, so I can confirm it's not an American company issue. I'm regularly using my phone as a hotspot for my ipad and whenever I get a phone call the H+ turns into G (2g) and Internet stops working.

Same here. It was like that since my first Galaxy S, it's a technical limitation of network protocols. At least in Europe.

Hang on lets rewind.
Are you in the UK.
The 4G network here in the UK is getting there, But its still got along way to come.
One of them is the ability to pass Calls via 4G.
The problem you have in the UK is 4G is data, While H+ etc is for GSM
The UK have not bought the ability to do both yet.
What should happen, is you will be kicked of the 4G network to take the call, Then be re-connected when you finish the call.
This is not device specific, Its Network Region Specific

The S7E supports VoLTE. It's working on my device. But your carrier has to have it as a service.
Otherwise, you should still have 3G when making a call. If you don't, that doesn't seem right.

VoLTE
In order to make calls and use data at the same time mobile phone networks need to either ...
support VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on the network (Three in the UK is currently rolling this out).
or provide phones with dual antennas, one for voice and one for data (I believe some US networks do this).

No 3G, that's the way normal LTE does works. Just like 2G, because if you make a call under 2G, data connection will be turn off.

Basically it goes down to network support. I never have such problem with 3 UK but work Note 4 on Vodafone sometimes disables data when in call. Sometimes doesn't. Which leads me to believe that it's not just network but also particular towers.

Quick question about VoLTE: Has anyone tested if VoLTE works on the international version (SM-G935F) on AT&T?

I can only tell you that international version supports VoLTE, wherever it'll work on AT&T I don't know.

Each VoLTE network requires a special firmware. There is no AT&T firmware for international s7 edge (still, it might be custom roms supporting this).
I'm in Europe and with international s7 edge I can use voice and H+ data connection at the same time.

Nougat Carrier Differences

Hello! I succesfuly installed the Nougat version for T-Mobile on my Unlocked Sprint Galaxy S7 Edge. I love the system and I definetely cannot go back to Marshmallaw and that annoying random reboot issue I had (Totally gone after I installed Nougat). Everything works like a charm Voice, Voicemail, USSD codes etcetera. The only problem I have is that I live in the Dominican Republic and the T-Mobile version of Nougat I believe is not recognizing the 3G network of my carrier. I checked online and the 935T recognizes different bands than the 935p (If im wrong please correct me).
I only have 4g and 2g so far, sounds good when you read it, but here in the DR, not all the places or regions have 4G, so I get to have 2G in some areas and I just cannot stand such a slow connection and Im looking for a Fix so my phone recognizes the 3g network. I tried playing a little with the APN's of my carrier but in all the APN's the 3g (and only the 3g) doesnt work.
If I Odin to the Nougat version of AT&T or Sprint, I suppose the problem would be fixed.... Suggestions?

Sprint Nougat update can't surf while on call

Hello,
The nougat update was installed on my Sprint S7 edge the other night. Now I can't use the Internet while I'm on a call! I did calling and surfing with no problem before this update. I called sprint and they basically said that you can be on WiFi and call / surf no problem, which is true. But I am often away from WiFi and need to use internet while on call. I tried the different modes such as CDMA, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UMTS, AND Automatic but same problem.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a setting or something to fix this?
Looks like I may have to go back to AT&T! ?
Thanks in advance
That is a limitation of Sprint, not Nougat. I switched from AT&T to Sprint last April and ran into the same issue immediately. While I plan to switch back to AT&T or Verizon, I've been using the hangouts dialer/google voice to make calls over LTE. This fixes the issue for me for the time being.

I've never been able to access data over cellular while on a call on my S7 Edge. Nougat or Marshmallow. Worked fine on older phones, but Sprint's Spark network doesn't allow it.
I came from T-Mobile who I truly despise so I decided to give sprint a shot. I've been on sprint for years now on and off and I have NEVER been able to use the internet while on a call. As others stated above, their POS network doesn't allow it. It was the limitations of a CDMA network, but couple years ago, Verizon upgraded their CDMA network and now they can browse and talk at the same time. Sprint is the ONLY network that doesn't allow it that's in the top 4. ATT, TMO, VZW. While sprint was racing to be the first carrier to allow 4G (which they were) other networks were prepping for LTE and setting up their infrastructure to surf blazing speeds and still talk and sprint is stuck in the stone age's. Rant over lol

Sprint actually did allow simultaneous voice and data for a while. It worked fine on my G3 (and still does, actually). But it doesn't work on any of the new phones that support their faster "Spark" network, or whatever they're calling it now.

what you said is 100% true but to add to the dialogue, the reason it doesn't work anymore is because manufacturers have reduced cell antennas down to 1
older devices used 2-3 antennas, so it was possible to use 1 antenna for internet on a LTE frequency while the other antenna was in use for voice calls.
VoIP is essentially a data stream so with 1 antenna that's the only workaround.
The last galaxy phone that did simultaneous voice and data (while not on wifi) was th GS3 . it had a radio in it call SVDO (simultaneous voice and data option)
no other galaxy phone since then can do both UNLESS your on wifi.

Regarding Sprint racing to be the first carrier with 4G (Wimax) while the others were prepping for LTE, Sprint wanted to also do LTE like the others but at that time LTE was nowhere near ready & they had to do something with the spectrum they were sitting on at that time or else they would've lost it.

Last phone I remembered being able to do this was the Note 3. Man I miss being able to use simultaneous data & voice.

Well that sucks. We should have that option it's freaking 2017 lol. It's hard to take them serious. I also keep hearing of a soft bank and TMO partnership they really do want to pair sprint with TMobile to compete against Verizon and ATT. If sprint did merge with TMO they could route calls through another frequency/band and have data sit on the LTE band.

Actually, a work-around that I've tried is using the Google Hangouts dialer. You can surf the web and be on the phone. Kinda sucks they eliminated the simultaneous talk and data.
I can attest that until the latest Nougat update (last week) I was able to be on a phone call while connecting to the internet and webex. I do this a lot due to being stuck in traffic and having to attend conference calls while driving.
My phone is a Galaxy S7 Edge. I also had this ability with my Note 3. Something fishy is going on here.
I'm really upset that this is happening all of a sudden, strangely right after the freaking software update. I want the feature back! Now every forum says that Sprint doesn't support it on these phone. BS! I am proof it did have the ability. They just took it away with stealthy maliciousness. Sprint needs to give us back the ability to use data and voice simultaneously!
I'm using s7 edge too. if anybody still can't use data while on call. try to turn off your power saving mode. don't turn off your power saving mode while you on call. off ur power saving mode before you call or answer someone. i update this reply while on call too.
I think nowaday most updates are all a big BS. just another ploy to take away all the neat features and give the phone companies more controls, limiting user ability, etc.... i.e. to save the phone companies bandwidth and data use..
My old samsung S4 can do everything after i completely rooted it. from hotspot to simult data and voice, also sim unlock... all done by me just reading xda
I want to upgrade to something newer with removable battery and microsd card in the form of a LG G5. and it's been a real PIA. first phone i got it has the latest firmwarez preventing any enabling of tethering or DIY sim unlock... Had to return it.... 2nd phone has earlier firmware so i can enable tethering. but has no way to use data and voice at same time.

LG V20 H990N on AT&T - Help

I'm on AT&T and just bought an unlocked LG V20 H990N (Hong Kong version). I took the phone to AT&T to get a new SIM card and have it set up, but it wouldn't connect to mobile data. The people at the store told me to call customer service since the phone is considered "jailbroken," and they couldn't get it to connect. Customer service referred me to tech support. Tech support told me the phone isn't being recognized by AT&T's network. The phone is being recognized as a 2G phone, which obviously isn't the case. They submitted a request to provision the phone to their network, which could take up to two week. They said I should have 4G access as soon as it's complete. Has this happened to anyone?
From everything I've read online, the phone should have no trouble working. People use it on AT&T just fine so I don't know why this is happening. I can make and receive calls. It says "3G" at the top, but I can't connect to mobile data. I can use it on WI-Fi only. I'm not a tech savvy person. I was hoping to get some insight here. Any information would be helpful.
This phone (hong kong version) has several data networks like GPRS, EDGE, TD-SCDMA, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, TD-LTE, LTE, LTE-A
Theoretically it should work.
Ask someone at the AT&T store to check if the sim card is OK

If the SIM card isn't OK, would I be able to make calls and text like I can now?
Someone mentioned that the phone isn't working because I didn't use my old SIM card. Should this even matter?
I went back to AT&T. They tried different APN configurations and eventually got it to connect to mobile data.
But it's only a 3G connection. How do people get 4G LTE with this phone in the U.S.? This is so frustrating.
Using the Taiwan version H990ds, no issues. 4G LTE on bands 2, 4 and 17. H990N should support the same bands so you should get LTE.
Brother,
Can you advise where you find the root procedures or how you root the V20H990N (Hong Kong Version)? It is because I also has one but I don't know how to root this phone.

Dual SIM G950FD on US T-Mobile and AT&T

Has anybody tried the G950FD on T-Mobile and AT&T in the US? Ideally Tmo on SIM1 and ATT on sim2.
I know the S7 couldn't switch well between the two networks as a dual sim phone.
Also is WiFi calling working? B12? Is SIM2 3G on AT&T or still just 2G?
Thanks!

I've done some more searching so let me clean this up for future searchers...
Q1. At&t will not work well on SIM2 since they killed their 2g network. There does seem to be a 3g antenna in SIM2, but for some reason still requires a 2G network. Tmo works fine in SIM2.
2) Tmo WiFi calling is not working. Though there is hope that this will work in the future (with root). Not much hope for a native solution.
3). Volte (b12) does seem to work with certain country modems. But as of today, its not clear which countries.

I have international S8 SM-G950F.
Recently, I switched to Ultra Mobile and contacted them about using VOLTE because they advertised it.
Ultra Mobile is a MVNO of T-Mobile. The reason I contacted them is because you need to have a SIM that is provisioned for WiFi Calling before it will work. I tested this by going into Connections, then Data Usage, and finally Mobile data. (Turn switch off and then try using the phone or sending MMS. Mine worked. But remember I contacted the carrier after they advertised that they have WiFi Calling....

wifi calling and Volte for unlocked galaxy s8

I recently brought Galaxy S8 SM-G950F (international unlocked) version and use Ultra mobile which in turn uses T-Mobile network in US. I have following queries:
1. Currently Wifi calling is not working nor can I see any options to enable/disable it. Does international unlocked phone do not have this feature? I tried the call setting menu and more connection settings but it does not appear in both of them.
2. After the call connects, my data switches to H or H+ (3G) but otherwise it remains on LTE/LTE+. Is this an issue with my phone or the carrier? My friend uses the same ultra mobile network with IPhone 6s and LTE works while on call so I think its not a carrier issue but not sure. I have heard LTE works on carrier provided galaxy s8 models.
I also have any option to exchange my phone for North America unlocked version S8 SM-G950U. Does this model supports above features? Should I go for this exchange?

You will not get wifi calling or volte on any of the unlocked phones while they are stock. Each carrier is slightly different on what u need to do. Tmobile only need a firmware flash with a carrier that has the option. Att is the hardest, many more steps.
