Phone and internet - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Any mods out there I was told the phone does have the radio to do it, but can't find any info on this

No Sprint phone that supports Spark, or whatever they're calling their enhanced LTE now, can do simultaneous voice and data, except with WiFi.

That's just sprints network. They are the last carrier to NOT have the ability to use data while being on a call. Even verizon, who had the same CDMA network as sprint, they now have that ability. Its the one thing I hate about sprint.

Sprint used to support simultaneous voice and data, even before Verizon did. My Galaxy S3 supports it. But their newer phone don't, for whatever reasons.

Simultaneous Voice and Data on 3G

I'm not sure if anyone else has had a chance to notice this but I recently used the app Phone Info to be able to toggle my LTE when I want to use just 3G and I noticed something neat. I noticed that when on the call my 3G indicator remained on, and usually it goes away until I get off the call. So i attempted to access the internet while still on the call and to my surprise voice and data worked simultaneously on 3G!
Probably not the most sought after capability on a phone but I definitely enjoy having the option.
Make sure you put sprint on the title, and yes the evo lte and the gs3 both have svdo and that's why it makes it possible, on att and tmobile it has been done already because of gsm technology

I'm actually using the Verizon version, but it's nice to know it works on other versions too.

What to do with old Evo?

Does anyone know what I can do with an old Evo in terms of prepaid stuff? It's got a clean ESN, and I've got a relative on a shoestring budget that would love something like this, but they can't afford contract prices.
Thanks.
Google is your friend.
It can be flashed to any company using same towers. Boost, virgin, etc.
I'm on boost myself.

Straight Talk... Uses Verizon's network.

In everyone's opinion, what prepaid service has the best data speeds/plans? I may be going this route soon.
use it as mp3 player?

This is incorrect on multiple levels.
Firstly, straight talk is a GSM carrier, which provides MVNO service for At&t, as well as t-mobile. The evo is a CDMA phone, which is compatible with that network.
The service that you're thinking of would be page plus, which provides verizon service in a mvno environment. The problem is that to use page plus, one must have a valid verizon ESN, which the evo does not have.
The evo must be used on a sprint mnvo, such as ting, or cricket. Virgin mobile will *not* work with the evo, as they require specific ESN numbers outside of the sprint general database.
It is possible to put an evo on page plus, straight talk, boost, and a few others. Straight Talk has gsm phones as well as cdma phones last time I checked. I haven't personally flashed an EVO to page plus but I've seen them. I have an EVO currently on boost, almost anything is possible if you put your mind to it! I

I think Page Plus is probably the best route. I had a Droid X on it. I have flashed an Evo Shift before to page plus. I don't think 3G worked but i use WIFI mostly anyways. I then flashed it to a Mexican company Iusacell and gave it to a friend that lives down there. Never got the 3G to work though it was a tough phone to flash.
I've know a few people with EVO's on Boost Mobile. They're really happy with it.
Turn it into an mp3/media player

Unable to Talk and Surf

Anyone having the same issue? Once I take a call browsing the internet is nearly impossible. It will take a good 2-3 minutes to pull up a page?

I am not sure if that's correct. Im in an area with full LTE bars and still having this issue. even my iphone 4 was better at talking and surfing.
I've heard that att phones go to 3g when you talk and surf. Then back to lte after you hang up.

They advertise that but for a couple years they've been throttling talk and surf. It goes to edge speeds, sometimes even slower. There were articles a year or two ago about this.

That has nothing to do with the discussion here. The throttling you're talking about is with the people who still have unlimited data plans who go over 2 or 3 GB's in the month's span. Then they will have their data speeds throttled.
The issue at hand here is when someone is having a conversation on the phone, on speaker for instance, and is trying to use the internet browser at the same time.

Le sigh. http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-galaxy-note-2/219461-can-note-2-talk-surf-over-3g-same-time-stolen-sprint-note2-thread.html or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524841 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkSO7H4kqeQ. I know they throttle unlimited plans past 5 gigs but I never mentioned anything about the unlimited plans. I said they throttle your data speeds while you're on a call.
Edit: or this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791955&page=4
Edit 2: iphone 5 users on at&t experiencing the same thing http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1549971
On AT&T you should be able to talk and surf at the same time. LTE is not yet capable of talk and data at the same time so if you have an LTE connection and use data, your data connection will be dropped to 3G or lower. The problem might exist because not all phones or AT&T towers handle the data switches efficiently. The phone has to register with the next available tower during the data / voice event and this doesn't always go smoothly. Last I heard, AT&T was testing LTE with voice technology, but I haven't heard anything in a while about that.
I have also heard that people with improper APNs might have trouble talking and surfing at the same time.

My mistake then. Seemed similar to the unlimited data throttling problem.

Try it yourself. Call 611 and do a speed test. It's horrible. It's ironic that at&t still brags about "talk and surf" in their latest commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_OGAa3ytcQ

So even if the device is on LTE when you talk on the phone it switches to a 3g connection? Can you elaborate
Yeah I just tested and that was BAD

L720 on Verizon??? I have it working but the signal bar says roaming when it is not.

Hello.
I have a L720 with a active vzw sim card and the phone is running cm11 but it says roaming in the status bar but the phones 3g and phone and texting works. Is there a way to get it to say 3g of lte up there? A better rom maybe? I have searched and there is no one that has this phone on vzw. Any help would be so nice! Thanks
Have a great night.
I'm pretty sure Verizon and sprint use different spectrums for LTE you'll get 3g but no lte

Yeah sprint galaxy s4 has the bands for T-Mobile and Att 3g and hspa+ networks Verizon I have no clue which bands they use you'd be better off just trading in and getting a Verizon phone to get their speeds

I agree, if you are paying the premium for Verizon service I would just get the Verizon version of the phone.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Thanks this is not my phone just was testing it that's all lol thanks again! The friend that owns this is going to try it on t mobile next but the first time they tried it did not work only data worked for some crazy reason voice and texting came on and went off so we will try that latter.

No.
You would have to change the MEID to one that is used by Verizon. They also don't use all of the same frequency bands, so if you were able to change the numbers (which is illegal, btw) you would still not be able to get the same service.
