Simultaneous Voice and Data on 3G - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I'm not sure if anyone else has had a chance to notice this but I recently used the app Phone Info to be able to toggle my LTE when I want to use just 3G and I noticed something neat. I noticed that when on the call my 3G indicator remained on, and usually it goes away until I get off the call. So i attempted to access the internet while still on the call and to my surprise voice and data worked simultaneously on 3G!
Probably not the most sought after capability on a phone but I definitely enjoy having the option.

Make sure you put sprint on the title, and yes the evo lte and the gs3 both have svdo and that's why it makes it possible, on att and tmobile it has been done already because of gsm technology

HSPA+ on GT-N7000. T-Mobile refarming?

It may be a miracle. I was using the International Samsung Galaxy Note and was only receiving edge on T-Mobile. I learned why this was and hoped it would change. About three nights ago exactly I was trying to use my data which was edge which did not work at all. I was not sure why. Then the following night I was at a dinner party in Cougar Mountain Drive which is in the Bellevue area. All of a sudden I turned on my data and guess what I saw. A big H+ staring me back in the face. I was so overjoyed I could not even begin to explain. But alas, I could not longer see the H+ when I returned home in the Seattle Area. Is T-Mobile finally refarming? We can all hope can't we? What do you guys think?
Probably Tmo rolling out 4G in select areas.
You can always apply the Tmo radio to get 4G

that's only with the at&t version. I believe OP was referring to T-mobile expanding their network bands to the ones used by at&t

That's awesome advice....not. Are you trying to get him to brick his phone?
This is an N7000.
T-Mobile has been working on standing up the 1900 frequency, which is the same band AT&T uses, and the band included in all international phones. They have been using AWS which is the 1700 band. This is why all new-ish T-mobile phones are pentaband. You must have been in an area that they already converted over. It is supposed to be complete sometime in 2013.
I have a similar story. While visiting in Concord, CA. Downtown where the Old Spaghetti Factory is: I was able to get HSPA+ on my Infuse i997. Looking forward to the refarm taking place all over the usual spots.

Its the same reason that the Skyfire can be flashed to t-mobile.
Post it on airportal.de because it is the only way to track it besides HowardForums.

I now understand its not those models. It was my fault for not realizing. People on this forum are so quick to pounce on someone's mistake. His comment wasn't necessary and neither was mine. Simple.

I understand that T-mobile has re-farmed 1900 MHz for 3G service in the Boston, MA area.
Is this service available to T-Mobile pre-paid PAYG customers? On the $3/day plan?
Is there any requirement for a GBA SIM? Or any newer SIM?
Are there any specialized APN settings?
Any specialized phone settings? "Force" WCDMA 1900 MHz only from the Service Menu?
I have an international un-locked Samsung Galaxy S II (I9100), and a 7 year old T-Mobile pre-paid SIM.
I have been able to use GSM data (2G: GPRS/EDGE) as recently as July, 2012.
My visits are brief so I use the $2/day plan but would like to be able to use 3G.
current reports,
no specific deals with TMO regarding network sharing,
i'd doubt AT&T will lend the networks without a fair price

Razr M data on call 3g

Why does this phone not get the data on call when on 3g like other s4 snapdragon phones? I thought that was a feature of that chip. Same chip as the sgs3 and incredible 4g....
I realize you can get the data on 4g but it works with 3g on the other phones.
Any suggestions or answers? Maybe works on the jelly bean update?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
To my knowledge its not the phones, it is a limitation of the 3G network, that is why the CDMA carriers is hard at rolling out the 4G networks.
No the phones I have listed have the capability on Verizon ... pretty sure it's a chip set thing
I believe the Rezound, incredible 4g, galaxy s3 all have this capability on Verizon.... possibly more I don't know of
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I guess no one is concerned with this feature? I am just wondering if it's hardware or software related

Yep cdma is for voice or data...not both at the same time
If u have Lte and CDma u can get both at the same time
GSM phones can do both at the same time
Pretty simple

It's definitely not impossible. Rezound could definitely talk and use 3g data at the same time.

I believe it is called SCDMA, Verizon supports it and a few phones on their network support it. The Thunderbolt is one that I know about. The problem, as I understand it, is the phone needs a second 3G radio and that kills the battery life. There was a lot of talk about it on howardfourms.com when Verizon announced it about a year ago. It was a feature I missed when I left AT&T especially when using the phone for navigation in a car while talking. I've mostly been taking mass transit the last few years so it isn't as important to me.
Since the LTE radio already is eating the battery life and VoLTE is due next year, I doubt your going to see new phones with this feature.
I check the howardforums site, it is SVDO and here's a thread (there are many):
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1770529-Upcoming-and-current-SVDO-phones?highlight=svdo
Looks like the S3 supports it too.

No 3G data service during voice call????

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258959&referrerid=5287531
So i found this thread that says S3 and Evo LTE only works data and voice.
is there way to work data and voice same time?
i do a lot calls and i need to check mails and etc.
Not on 3G with the S4, however, voice and LTE work if you have LTE service in your area.

I drive semi it is more productive when you can look up street view roads that may have weight limits height restrictions as you are calling the company letting then know about when you will arrive.we as drivers only have a certain amount of time to drive a day.thus makes my day that much more productive. Ten extra mins could be whether I make it to the next town or not.

VZW G2 compatibility with GSM

The spec sheet for the Verizon G2 say that it's capable of both world GSM and CDMA, but someone said that it wouldn't work on any other network. Can someone confirm this? I really want the Verizon one because of wireless charging and lack of tabs in settings menu, but it's no good if it won't work.
[QUOTE=droid_
I think it is GSM unlocked but for outside of the US only. And BTW the tabbed settings layout is configurable on all versions.

For the settings, I figured that one out today, so I might just go with ATT. They rooted it flawlessly and plus ATT has the lowest price. Apparently they found it extremely difficult to root the VZW at first because there were no drivers for VS980.

I might be getting the VZW version because I live outside of the US too and my carrier works on 3G 900Mhz and (correct me anyone if I'm mistaken) the AT&T version does not support that band.

Verizon works in the US and is SIM unlocked. Using metro and T-Mobile Sims now as I test out their networks......
Edit: let me also point out you have to add the apn if you want data. You don't have to call Verizon or anything. Just plug in the SIM card of your choice add the apn and you are good to go. This has been done on all verizon LTE phones with SIM cards as long as the phone supports the bands of the network you are trying to use.

Drivers weren't the issue. It just took a while because people didn't realize you had to select "Ethernet" as your USB connection mode. Takes a single tap and you can use the driver that comes on the phone.

Galaxy S5 Sprint Spark kills data + voice calls at the same time!

SEE POST 30 TO CHANGE YOUR PRIORITY BAND COVERAGE!
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...ark-4g-network-problems-phone-calls/index.htm
I asked the store rep if Sprint is working on a fix, but we all know the Sprint reps are usually useless answering these questions (by this I mean at the store they are only trying to make a sell). Her answer was that Sprint is working on a fix that will fix all phones with an OTA. My next question was is this a hardware or software problem which she responded that it is a tower problem. I looked online for an answer but all I could find is that Sprint responded with a weird kinda lame answer that didn't really say if they are working on a fix or not. On Sprint's Forum a rep says they are, but they say a lot of things on the forum that aren't correct also. This seems to be a very frustrating situation actually.
Does it matter to you?
It does to me, but at the same time it isn't a function I use all the time. My only reason that it has helped me, is that it has greatly helped me with work a few or more times.
I am kinda forced to buy a new phone for framily / billing reasons... huge bill without it. I am sorta thinking that I will upgrade the phone but at the same time keep my S4 handy in case I hate the S5. I went to the store today and I have to say it actually surprised me with it's new version of Touchwiz- even though I usually hate Touchwiz.
The only real reason I can see me upgrading is the camera and battery algorithms for power saving.
I call crap!
I've had none of these issues personally, and you can just turn off Spark.
I spoke with sprint today and they said it would be fixed when spark opens up nation wide.

Spark is crap!!!
The reason you can only use one at a time is the triband antenna in the phone it can only use one signal at a time. It may be fixed once sprint starts using voice over LTE. Plus spark is just a unborn baby right now, not even full deployed. The sprint map says spark coverage is in certain areas on the sprint coverage map on the website. This is not true, the sprak network is 2.5Ghz radio head on the the already existing towers(have not be built or not on-air yet). According to sprint Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung towers are the only companies that are contracted to work on spark networks. Ericsson is looking like they will not be apart of the upgrade. This means there will be 1/3 of the sprint market that will not have spark. Sprint has the the companies split by markets and only two of them have contracts to build in their area.
Here is an article that will cover a good about of that info.

NSN will be the contractor for the Areas served by Ericsson for NV 1.0. The reason you can not get SVLTE is because they do not have multiple pathways for 1x and LTE. Here it talks about it. The S5 was not the first phone to have this happen, All tri-Band Phones will most likely be without SVLTE from now on.
S4gru has a few pages explaining it better.

Now that Sprint has wifi calling it seems like it would be easy to use the same service over LTE. Then 1X voice wouldn't be needed and you could use data+voice simultaneously.

Having sprint spark doesn't mean your going to have best speeds unless your connected to band 41 or band 26 which is the newest bands. With those speeds you have there i wouldn't be surprise if your connected to band 25 which is the 1900mhz which yea its loaded with majority of sprint customers which is going to give you real slow speeds.
Here some speed test on band 41 i took yesterday morning when i was heading to go play some basketball.
