Is it just not possible? Tried a few different ROMs, really like 440 DPI as I am not blind and don't need the be able to read my phone from across the room....I have tried a few different DPI settings and the only one that works is 560
Anyway, with anything other than stock 560dpi you can't swap cameras to front or record video. Anywhere you press even where the "buttons" are just takes a pic.
Is there a work around for this?

Interesting, I hadn't noticed this before since I don't use it much. I did find that if you turn phone to portrait you can switch between front and back camera, but video button only takes pics. I will have to experiment more.

480 DPI works, I guess I didn't try that one. Better then 560, but still not preferable to me.

I did find that the stock google camera app works fine with the 420 dpi, however I can't launch with a twist like I can the stock camera so since I am lazy I just ran the DPI back to stock for now.
I don't like the gestures, I don't use the camera that much to need it. Maybe it depends on the ROM, but the stock Google camera has been flaky for me. Will stick to 480 unless a fix/work around comes around

I use 480dpi and camera fully works, even gesture twist to start.

Bought this app as part of the Play Store sales that just happened. So far it's the best camera app I've tried with the N5. UI is decent, solid amount of features, and shutter speed seems much improved for me.

A couple pics using it. Again, shutter speed is much faster and it doesn't seem to effect low light pics.

Just picked this up, seems faster and focuses better (even though it shows the red focus indicator, it's usually still focused properly.)
Yeah, I found the same, especially in macro mode (all the beer related pics above were in macro with a red focus square).

I'm glad you posted this, most of the camera apps I've tried, even those that have been updated for Nexus 5 and 4.4 compatibility all seemed to act weird when tapping to focus, the exposure on screen would flash really dark and often times stay dark.
This doesn't seem to have that issue, so thanks!
Heres a few random macro/close up shots I took.
Just tried it out much better than the stock camera app in my opinion will be using this one
Can confirm this app rocks! Much much better focus speed and picture quality too. Its on sales now ( I'm not promoting for this app )
Thank you very much for this find!
I have tried so many different camera apps (cameraFX, Camera Awesome,...) until now, and none of them did work out really well.
This one is fast in autofocus, Burst Mode is working and the pictures look great!
Another happy user here, came from iPhone 5 , very happy except camera , that's been solved with this app

Tried the free app... Bought the paid version within 5 minutes. Until Google comes with a fix for the camera, this is going to be my default camera app. Thank you OP. Great find...!!!

It has a reduced noise option that takes two pictures then merges them together.

Holy [email protected]! This app is a HUGE improvement over the stock camera! Thanks to y'all for pointing it out and recommending it/ showing it off! :highfive:
Just bought it. It was 99 cents so I guess not a big deal to try out. I noticed the auto focus isn't great but tap to focus works better than stock. Is it supposed to have a native video recorder? When I clicked "camcorder" it tried opening my stock video camera and then crashed. Also, I'm not sure if the "reduced noise" is usable. It's fairly slow to take the pic as well as to process it.
EDIT: Nevermind about the video, just read on the app page it doesn't support it.

Well, the HDR+ in the stock camera app mode take longer to process too.

The touch to take a photo is frustrating as hell when i'm used to tap-to-focus on targets rather than it immediately take a pic.
I've tried fiddling around but still no joy. Anyone know of a secret-squirrel setting someplace to turn that crap off?

I had the same problem with my moto g. An easy fix is to get the google camera app, which is very similar to the stock camera app, but it has tap to focus.

But no slomo or 4k, I hope with the release of the 6p they will add those features to the google camera app, I hate switching between camera apps.

I guess you could just use the stock app when you need to film slow-mo or 4K? Alternatively, you could look around for other camera apps on the forums or on the play store; I found one called open camera, not the nicest looking interface but looks pretty functional...
Edit: I've heard that the moto x style doesn't support the camera api which is a bit of a bummer...
I've used Open Camera previously, may have to give it a go. Google Camera is ok but it is a bit Basic?
I wonder if the Oppo camera app will work >.>
I think many people do not know that you can use the volume up/down buttons to snap a photo. Then it feels very much like a traditional point and shoot camera when you hold it. I literally just found this out today. I really wish Moto included that tidbit in their initial tutorial animations.

I installed this Xposed module on the stock rom and changed almost all the options in it and also installed Camera 360 and Camera FV 5 Pro (I changed the extension from .jpeg to .png in FV5).
Now I'm not sure if this app it's really better or is just a impression because I can't see any difference between the stock image quality (and Google Camera) and the Camera FV5, I can see just the difference in the image size.
Attached sample images - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9AGQuLtWUjVUS1lbkF1MTh5MlE&usp=sharing
Camera 360 ≈ 3,6 - 3,8MB
Camera FV5 ≈ 20 - 22MB
Google Camera ≈ 5,0 - 6,0MB
Stock Camera ≈ 5,5 - 6,0MB
Obs.: HDR turned ON in all cameras
.
.
Here's my camera test. Phone was stationary. No touch to focus. Just clicked to take picture. What do you think?
Think its stockkkk...
because it has got better focus.
and modded as the device camera
Stock had a little better colors
It's a tough call. I will say that I like the Google ui a little better. When I touch to focus it seemed to automatically adjust the right amount of light. Where stock I have to manually adjust slowing me down. But I didn't use focus on these just snapped them.
Can you try a better Camera? That's what I use and I usually get the best pictures with no additional effort.

Will give it a shot
I'm a fan of Open Camera, but it's sluggish on my Moto X 2013.
Doesnt look like theres a camera setting to lower resolution, just widescreen and 4:3. So what app do you use?
I use the stock camera app. I love it's interface and lack of clutter. Not sure if I can recommend another since I've mainly used it for the last couple years. Only the stock camera will work with the twist gesture.

Open camera is good, FV-5, a better camera... If someone find the best one, please share.
So everyone is complaining about the camera app. What am I missing? Can't you just install the Google camera app?
I was wondering the same but thought maybe that it could possibly not be used due to the two camera setup.
I've read people say you can just install the Google camera app, and that it works fine (but no more detail than that - I imagine it might not use the monochrome camera, will be surprised if it tries to use both together).
The OnePlus 5 camera was ported to the honor 8. Maybe the same could be done for the essential phone

I installed the APK for the Google Pixel Camera ... pretty sure it was from this site. Didn't work. Crashes the instant you open it. Kinda wondering if I did something wrong??
PS: The camera really is beyond awful. The results are on par with a 20 year old disposable camera. Really need to get something better ASAP.

I have no issues taking pictures, all mine turn out fantastic. Especially when just using the monochrome sensor by itself.

Guys am I missing something? Is there any way to change from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 one for the rear cameras using the default camera app? I am able to do it of course using the Google camera app.
I use the "Open Camera" app. Seem to work well
I haven't seen anyone mention that the stock camera app is compressing the pics. Stock pics come out at 1.6 mbs or so while Gcsm is 3+ mbs.

Don't have the phone on me now but I'd imagine it's the resolution that sets the aspect ratio so choose one that is 16:9 like 4032x2268 (9.1M) or 2560:1440 (3.7M). At least those are my options on my S8's stock camera app... lol
Just got the phone and seeing the resolution as 4160x3120 but the file is only 1mb vs 5.5mb on the Google camera. Too much compression, no wonder the photos look so grainy.
