Next question, my phone dialer is accessed through a 'bluetooth ' icon on the home page, it is ok but does not have a favourites or often dialed icon or ability.
I would like to change that to a basic phone dialer with contacts and speed dial ability, any help appreciated.
I have seen a link that stated that because the HU does not have the phone module then it cant happen, soooooo is there a good app that works with these limitations to only have a speed dial function, the rest I can live with.
I have a sort of work around. I will get you the info tomorrow but it involved head unit, true contacts and a dialer. I get an error saying no mobile network but it'll dial using T9 dialer, contacts, etc.

yes and yes. I get a mobile network not available error but it dials. You will need Headunit 3066

It works for the most part.
I just use GV Dialer http://www.mediafire.com/?h3ddoddnuzu
and for text messages I use the 406 area code numbers that each text is assigned.
It works for now.

It is a touchscreen app and I do use it with the Ozone. I can make Google Voice calls and texts with it. You kind of have to figure it out at first as it is designed for touch screens, but it actually works well with or without Google Voice.

Anyone know what's up with GVDialer now ... was running the trial and went to purchase when I got the expiration warning and the site seems like they've just given up. 'The Get Activation Code' or 'Buy Full Version' links just say:
GVdialer downloads are temporarily unavailable.

I've tried GVoice Dialer, but I hate having to run the app to make a call -- I liked the way GVDialer integrated better with the normal contacts manager and just asked if I wanted to use it on a call by call basis. I'll give iDialer a shot -- I had steered clear because of the obvious touchscreen bias, but glad to hear it sort of works.
I just wasted an hour trying out various call log apps on the my phone and they all seem to suck.
There's not an app that actually bunches up your call log by contact name/phone number? I know the default dialer on my 2.1 stock based sense rom has basically that but it's a bit buggy when trying to delete the call history of a single number...
So I'm just hoping I overlooked a possible solution to my issue.

The setting you are looking for is in menu>more>catch calls. Set by default. You then have to "catch calls" and set if you want all calls or just "clients"

I was wondering if there were any mods to make the dialer/keypad better?
I hate the one that is stock in eclair because there is a delete where there should be a 0. Also it drives me nuts that when you start typing a number and the contact comes up automatically, you can't click once for it to dial, you need to select it then hit dial!

Coming from an iPhone its a pain to have to select contact then press call on android. (My only android gripe tho!)

You can swipe left on the contact name to dial the contact, or swipe from right to left to send a sms message.

windows mobile had a better dialer! it used call history along with contact list to find matching contacts....really miss that. Another infuriating thing about android is that it chooses home number as default instead of mobile number. besides, i cant tap on the matched contact to bring up options to dial the required number....plain sucks!
every firmware flash, you need to sit and set default numbers all over again...frustrating! but apart from this, android just rocks \m/

Lets try a new approach to this for the phone feature. Since we know it dials out on activations, lets try getting log cats of it. Same goes for a failed call. Compare the two

It dials out with what? If there isn't a dialer app on it what is it using? Or, are you saying it dials out with the dialer app and then disappears?
Netdial allows for calling over 3g and is free in the market. Works the same as the dialer.

I put player into sim card, can use mobile data but cannot make a phone and sms. So, I would like to know how to do that of dial pad with make a phone call and send/receive sms. Please help to me.

Hello ppaphyo. Am having the same issue with my car android TS8. Were you able to install the dialer and messager? How can I go about it?
Please also share the password for the developer options as none seem to work. Thanks in advance
