Option to turn off 5ghz WiFi in Samsung? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I feel like 5ghz wifi is draining my battery.
My 4G connection has been fine with minimal to zero drain when idle.
Anyone?

I noticed this too before the PC8 update. After the update I don't notice it anymore

Battery lasts longer on wifi than 3g

Seems wierd but my battery lasts 2 to 3 times longer on wifi than without wifi turned on. Anyone think this is right?
Yes that is correct 3g takes more battery power

Not sure if wifi is actually turning off with the screen, how can i be sure?

I have the option checked under wifi, but in the battery graph it shows wifi being on constantly and i feel like the battery is draining faster than it should. Any way to check for sure?

Help with wifi issue

I constantly use my tab with wifi at home and I have noticed that when my tab comes off standby (after unlocking screen) it connects to wifi, it never used to to happen. Running stock ICS, anyone started experiencing this? I think this is also why my tab runs hot and battery drains.

I think I may have solved my issue, under advance wifi settings I selected to "Always" have wifi on during sleep. My battery is not draining as much as before.

[Q] [Solved] 4.2.2 battery drain on WiFi

I have been having a problem with battery drain on 4.2.2 from wakelocks.
If I am away from known wifi I have no problems, but as soon as I am within range of a known wifi network the phone will no longer spend any time in deep sleep.
Also I flashed google's stock 4.2.2 rom from fastboot, it is currently unrooted with the stock kernel.
Here is what I have found so far:
-the wakelock that is occuring is suspend_backoff,
-wifi is set to always on.
-the wakelock stops as soon as wifi is turned off, and is completely unassociated with any running apps, including Chrome, it happens right from boot.
Re: [Q] 4.2.2 battery drain on WiFi
Hmmm. I'm having no issues with WiFi drain. I've been in the opposite side of my house from my router all day too.
Maybe try a re-flash.

Re: [Q] 4.2.2 battery drain on WiFi
Maybe the router? I only say this because I had on old dlink that refused to let two older android devices (tablet and phone) sleep. At work it was fine. Are you using cpuspy to confirm?

Thanks for the replies!
Originally I updated to 4.2.2 using the ota, and when I had the battery drain I wiped all partitions and reflashed everything, so I don't think that is the issue.
It may be the router, I have a Netgear, and other android and webOS devices have had problems with it... let me try using a different one.
Edit: Turns out it was the WiFi network! after switching deep sleep has started to creep back up.
Thanks for the help!

Edit: For some reason my tapatalk app randomly posted this. Weird.

Ha....a netgear is what I switched to. I haven't gotten 4.2.2 yet so crossing fingers.

S4 randomly dropping wifi on 5g

Hi guys, I know there are a few threads regarding wifi connectivity issues, however, my issue is slightly different. I have an asus dual band router rt n66u. When I connect to the 2.4 band, my connection is solid. When I connect to the 5g band it connects however randomly it will lose signal, no rhyme or reason. It may go days and be fine or it may drop it few times a day. When trying to reconnect, it will give me authentication error. I have tried everything so far that has been posted to no avail. Only happens on 5g band. Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you sure it is not a router issue?
Yep, have another gadget that connects to that band without any drops.

5g bands have always been flaky with phones. The behavior you describe was common place on the Evo LTE. Everybody I know just disabled the 5g and their battery life went up and the wifi drops stopped. I have a feeling that you haven't seen to many complaints is because everyone is using 2.4g because its more reliable.

I'll have to give it a shot. Reason I'm using 5g band is that I'm pulling full speed throughout the entire house, even on the complete other side.

Check this post I made about WiFi.
Seems the S4 doesn't 'like' some routes default settings.
Did that already, no love. It seems to be an apparent driver issue between the S4 and my Asus router using the 5g band. I used an older firmware with an older set of drivers and it works with no drops.
