Did I just wreck my new S7? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I just got my S7, and by mistake I pushed in the bottom mic hole with the sim tray tool Samsung gives you. I definitely felt something move. It actually felt like I ejected the tray. Nothing snapped, just moved.
The mic still works because I shot some video and covered the top mic and it still recorded audio. I covered the bottom one too and the audio play back sounds the same for each mic.
However, did I destroy part of the seal for the waterproofing? Did I really break anything?
Has anyone else done this?

I would say it may not be waterproof now. But if the microphone still works, I think you got lucky and avoided damaging anything!

There's a way to check the water resistance without having to out phone in water, I don't remember so search it

From what Im aware the mic is on the bottom of phone and the noise reduction is on the top.

Download cpu_z and check the pressure sensor. If the numbers increase when you press on the back and front of your phone (squeeze it) it should theoretically be waterproof, as air can't escape it.

The mics are covered with a thin mesh, you most likely punctured it.

That makes sense. That's kind of what it felt like. Do you think it damaged the water resistance protection at all?

Yes, it's that mesh (Gore-Tex, or a similar product), that lets air pass but not water.
And that's why the pressure test mentioned above isn't valid. The phone isn't completely sealed. Air can pass through the Gore-Tex membrane.

f.ck, same happened to me, pushed the sim tool in the mic hole and felt something "pushing" inside ;(

just return to Samsung and tell them no one can hear you when you talk.. LOLOLOL
should be still under warranty

here is the video of someone taking apart S7 (not S7 edge, but the interior should be about the same) and explains how the phone is waterproof
not sure if it helps, but here you go

Shield on Atrix back cover sticker?

While replacing my Atrix battery cover with a rubberized one I got curious and peeled off the sticker on the at&t cover and I noticed some sort of shield material (see photo)
Would that be an RF shield, heat shield, signal booster, just a sticker?
Cheers!

My guess is that its a heat shield. Anyone else?

Probably just the sticker. Why would you want a heat shield keeping heat in? Wouldn't be rf since it's not grounded to anything else in the phone, and anyone believing those "signal boosters" actually work, I've got some land to sell you.
Probably something to dampen the signal enough to meet FCC requirements.
The foam you see is to keep the battery cover firmly pressed against the phone. Dont want a battery cover that flexes when you press it! Drop it just right and it would shatter without it. Think of it as dynamat for your phone.
just the glue for the sticker

Good guess, but it actually sits pretty flat so I guess its not that, but who knows, it may be all the thickness it needs right? ;-)

Definitely some sort of glue, but it has some kind of metal feel to it, almost like tin foil.

If it's anything interesting, it is probably a heat spreader, not a heat shield.
I just got an oem replacement cover (to completely debrand my Atrix) from cnn and it does not have the sticker (nor the speaker grille). I'm gonna use it as is to see if the absent "shield" makes any difference.
The oem rubber cover do have the sticker on.
Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk
that type of glue is common on "no tamper" stickers as it is easy to see if someone has removed it. My guess is that the manufacture just has most of its stickers made this way as a SOP kind of thing. I can not imagine they really care if someone takes a sticker off a solid piece of plastic

[HOW TO] Safely Remove & Install Rear Cover

The Note II rear battery cover has fragile hooks that hold it in place in addition to the usual tabs. Failure to remove/install the cover in the proper fashion can result in broken hooks and a loose/creaky cover.
My cover was creaking in the corner above the volume rocker. I didn't realize the hook was broken until I stumbled across a thread where other users were experiencing the same issue.
I drew something up to hopefully prevent others from breaking their tabs/hooks. The green arrows show the direction on how to safely remove/install the hooks.

This is from a Sprint device but I assume the design is the same on the variants.
thanks for the guide, this back cover is harder to put back than note 1 and s3
Good to know, thanks! :good:
Yeah I was victim of creaky cover because I removed it really hard first day I got it. Anyone know where I can get a replacement cover?

What's the black bit on the inside of your cover? Looks like a place-holder for a wireless charging module.

Yeah, I looked at my S3 cover and the tabs looked reinforced. The hooks on the N2 are weeeeak. I only had my phone for a couple of days until I noticed that the hooks broke.

Try your local Sprint store that services phones. They usually have extra parts laying around but the N2 is still new so they might not have them yet. I'm still looking for a replacement cover.

That black plate is for my iMagnet car mount (thread). Highly recommended! I know a magnetic mount sounds crazy but I'll let the 5-star reviews speak for themselves.
i have no broken or bent tabs and it's still lose by the volume button. such a simple flaw on such a great phone. this stinks!
I noticed that the pictures don't show the wireless charging pins, which should look similar to the NFC pins but it's next to the battery
Beamed from Jupiter on my Galaxy Note II
The pics were taken from a Sprint variant where the housing covers the wireless charging pins. They're there underneath.
thanks

Missing Piece HELP!?

Hey i need help with this i replaced the digitizer on my galaxy s4 and I completely reassembled it but accidentally left this black piece out. Now the phone works perfectly...but i was having a conversation on it and it felt like it was heating up a lot more on my ear than before.

I would've thought it was what holds the ear speaker by the way it looks, but watching that video I couldn't match anything near the ear speaker to it. ..

Yeah i thought that was it at first but my power rocker is working perfectly even more responsive now maybe heh... im just worried if its something to do with the battery grounding or something because my ear was uncomfortably hot when i talked on the phone for more than 15 minutes.
Also couldnt spot it in the video :S... i guess im gonna have to pry it open again...

I'm sure there are some other videos to watch before you tear it back down. Was it an OEM part?

Display comes out of chassis!

Today I was noticing a really strange thing about my display.
When the S4 is lying flat on the table and you look at it from the side you can see that the display is curving out of the chassis. It is hard to explain but the display is not even with the chrome/plastic rim (the one just above the surrounding metal frame) as it should, it stands out (about 1mm). I can push it back into the chassis so that it is perfectly even again but after a fews seconds it stands out again. It seems like the display is glued into the chassis but the glue isn't gluing any longer and the display is slowly working its way out of the chassis.
Does anybody know what I mean?
Or has experienced anything similar?
I wasn't able to take a nice picture of what I mean, you just can't see it in my pictures. But I found a picture of a HTC One with the same problem. I hope you guys can get the idea.

Better don't fix it yourself, just bring it back from where you bought it and ask to fix it.
This is unacceptable for a flagship device and should be replaced/fixed under warranty.
What he said.
Send it back mate. Don`t be tempted to touch it, just ring your provider up and tell them. They are obliged to do it under warranty
Never mind.. my silly mistake.

Will return it under warranty.
The reason I was starting the thread was because I wanted to know if this is a known S4 issue. If other users are experiencing similar problems. Because when there is a chance that this will happen again and again then maybe I'll leave Samsung and go for another device...

No it's a know issue, just happened to be a manufacturing defect.
Try heating it up with a hairdryer and try to push it back into place. The heat will make the glue sticky again so hopefully it will work.

Thanks for your advice, but because I'm (as already mentioned) still under warranty I won't try anything risky as that

Replacement rear panel

Oops.
A one foot fall from my nightstand to the wooden side panel of my bed has caused the back glass on my S7 to look like a kaleidoscope. And the worst part is that I have a case that would have protected it but didn't have it on.
Ebay appears to have some replacement rear panels. (I like the silver better than the one with which it came.) However there isn't one specific to SM-G930V. I assume any that say G930 are ok? There are versions for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and international versions.
Any thoughts on whether this international version or this international version will work?
It should work (95% certain) as they all are the same size/shape. You will lose the verizon stamp though (might consider that a plus lol).

I think the only difference would be the carrier logo on the back, otherwise if it's just the rear cover you should be fine. I personally would just put a layer of thin, clear epoxy over the cracked back and give it a unique look while still being smooth.

I've order one and will try to remember to post back after it is on.
Cadcamaro, if it wasn't for the gear vr I would put the phone on a case and not take it out. Would you still epoxy with cracks this long?

That's a nasty crack, I'd still try it though.
I decided to go for the epoxy first. That way the backing of the phone would stay together and I would just get the glass to stay in place. The goal was not to make this pretty, but to get it all to stay intact and as water resistant as possible.
First I used tape to cover the sides and camera. In retrospect I wish I had put a suction up on the screen to make it easier to hold. If anyone else tries this, also make sure you have a screen protector on as a backup.
Here's what it looked like with the epoxy. I removed the tape before it set.
