Looking like no Note6 Edge - Note Edge General

It's increasingly looking like no Edge 2... i say we all keep our Note Edges going and not buy another Samsung this year around aswell, to make the point to Samsung.

I was gonna do it anyways since I really do appreciate the features the Edge screen has and I am cheap, but lets not kid ourselves, we are small niche. Most people don't really research phones just the mainstream phones they see on ads. This community is small enough on XDA. I doubt they'll notice. I mean hell, their OTA updates since 4.4.4 have turned the Note Edge into Note 4. Unfortunately I think our little phone and group is all thats gonna be left of a cool experiment that got trashed by the stupid mainstream phone reviewers

The Note Edge was a testbed for the upcoming S6 Edge. There were a lot of references for the "Zero Project" (S6 codename) in the Note 4 and Note Edge code. Both (N4 and N Edge) had a unique design language that was started with the Galaxy Alpha (which was also the testbed for the Galaxy A series) and ended with these devices. Both were stuck in the same User Interface over all their major updates. Both devices were -sadly- released when Samsung was already planning a new era of devices. Easily forgettable devices for both consumers and the manufacturer itself. The S6 Edge Plus replaced what "Note Edge 2" should had been and I'm pretty sure that an S7 Edge Plus would be the third one. Lets face it: Why do you want a pen with a curved canvas?

For me it's been the best phone ever because of those two reasons

Yeah, I love my edge but see no future for me and Samsung. I will use this phone until my contract expires at the end of the year. It is not that hard for me as there is no real progress in technology I will miss out, isn't it? Maybe I will switch back to HTC..

With a 5:10 screen ratio, S Pen and curved screen go together fine. Infact i much prefer the wider screen of my Note Edge, don't want to go back to skinny phones.

The Seperate screen is absolutely the best feature . The ability to multitask in this way is more productive than having multi screen!!! MARKETING BOYZ!!!

Sadly there are no more developers left for this phone. Everyone's developing roms for mainstream phones.

Don't give up hope completely. There may be a second variant of Note 6 with curved edge. Not sure how good source is...

{Help} Confused between Note 4, Note 4 Edge and S6 Edge.

After S6 Edge announcement and watching videos I am too much confused between Note 4, Note 4 Edge and S6 Edge.
What i like about Note 4 is 5.7" Screen and clearity of camera, Multitasking While in note Edge i like the Edge features so I was confused in between this two devices but after S6 Edge announcement i am going crazy as i am not able to decide which should i buy. I like the S6 Edge features like People Edge Contacts, Dual Edge, It's look and Notification animation it's very cool but it also have some demerits like Non removable Battery, Non Expandable Memory, No proper usage of Dual Edge Screen because of small 5.1 inch screen. So plz help me to decide which one to nuy. If you were in my position then what you would have buy ???.
I want to buy anyone from the above devices so i can start making My Previously made Black Metallic Theme for my New Device...

Poll have been added which will help me to decide
I'd wait for the Note 5 release. That way you'll get the new s6 features as well as the big display with the curve on the edges.
For this moment note4 with Exynos. May be note 5 at the end of the year. Note edge and s6 edge are very dificult to protect.
Get the note 4. Really cannot go wrong with this phone even now, with the sterling battery life and that screen. Lollipop will show up eventually and it will only enhance the note. Sure enough s6 looks good, but its a first generation product where i am concerned and a bit of a hail mary. It's the first time they have gone all in with their own processors and lack of expansible storage and removable batteries, eschewing that for a wonderful design.
The note 4 has both of the above, sterling build quality, the current best screen on the market ( i got both the nexus 6 and 6 plus and believe me only iphone even comes close in fidelty), all around great shooter and wonderful battery life.
As much as i admire the s6, i think its one product to sit out until they get it better next year. Golden rule... never buy a first gen product.

If you must absolutely get a samsung device, get the S6 edge.
There is currently little-to-no support for the Note4
How do you define support? I'm never going to catch up with all the threads in this forum for the T-Mobile one alone, much less Note 4 in general. There's certainly development happening.
----
I was going between the Note 4 and Note Edge and while I was realllllllly hoping the Edge would come down a bit in price, it's clear that T-Mobile has a high opinion of its flagship and isn't coming down any time soon. I sprung for the Note 4.
I hadn't even heard of the S6 or S6 Edge until after the 4 had arrived at my door. Now that I have, I see they don't have an S-pen.
It's not my whole existence but I do send enough text from my phone that I really do benefit from a thick, heavy, slide-out keyboard. I'm not one to carry a bluetooth KB around either, so I really wanted a phone with an integral hardware KB. Nobody makes a decent one any more: the MyTouch 4G Slide was better specced than the current LG slider they offer, and coming off of that phone, I wasn't about to pay for the LG and get worse hardware, and none of the other carriers offered attractive options.
I can write about as fast as I was able to type on a phone keyboard, so I decided the next best option was a pen. The Note 3 would have been more affordable, but still more than double what we paid for my MyTouch 4G Slide, so considering the cost, I decided to go all in and get the better hardware of the Note 4. Again, wanted the Edge, but the additional nearly-$150-or-so was a major turn-off for nearly identical hardware.
Aside from stock twitch-whiz interface and bloatware apps, I'm pleased with it and the handwriting recognition does pretty well for me.
I hate Samsung devices, though. Mainly because of twitch-whiz, to be fair.

Note 5 & S6 Edge Plus

I cannot provide a source for this, as that would result in someone loosing their job, but I have some information to share regarding the Note 5 and the S6 Edge Plus.
It was been rumored that there will be two variants of the Note 5, one that has an SD Card, whilst this might be true there will be NO Note 5 in Europe. There will only be an S6 Edge+ in the UK and Europe.
The Note 5 will be released in the USA and maybe some other markets but will NOT be part of the European launch or launched in Europe. This is why the S6 Edge+ has been made, as that will be released to the European market.
The S6 Edge+ Aluminium is stronger, 70% stronger than the iPhone in fact. It will feature 4GB of RAM and the same processor from the S6. The screen is 5.7 in size, the same as the Note 4, but fits inside a body and bezel SMALLER than the iPhone 6 Plus. There will also be less bezel (is that even possible) on the Edge+ making the curve seem slightly bigger.
Software features include a new "Apps Edge" in which you can slide in from the side and set your favorite apps, much like a dock. There will also be some changed icons to fit in with Samsung's new "flat feeling" to TouchWiz, though those have already been shown in various mock-ups and leaks.
I appreciate some may find this hard to believe, and may thing "Samsung wouldn't commit to such a bold move", but trust me, all will be revealed this week. Be sure to watch the London even as this will highlight the changes Samsung is making, such as not releasing the Note 5 to the UK etc.
Have fun!

recognition for getting everything spot on? thanks
They are going to release note 5 but only next year on UK. On my opinion it's a very very bad move. How about Europeans that want to have the next big thing. They are left out?? When note 5 is going to be released we just have to wait a couple of months for the new s7 so the sales aren't going to be that great. Some say that is because they can't produce so many curved glass in time for the demand. I just want the new functionalitys that the s6edge+ have on my s6edge. There's no reason for we not receive that. They imitate apple in so many ways they could imitate where matter the most, updates and bring the touchwiz equal on the latest devices.

#thanks4NOTEthing Sammy

Well, with the anoucement of the Note 5 and is full spec sheet released Sammy has officially jumped the shark (Happy Days reference - had to be there). They took away the removable battery, no expandable memory, lowered the battery capacity and produced an Apple 6 plus clone. For the last 4 years I eagerly anticipated Samsung taking my money because I knew what I was getting was different and a standard setter. There is NOTHING special about the phone now - S-pen aside. I am very disappointed in Sammy for too many reasons. From the lack of development and vision - for a full year, to the lack of accessories to not giving a [email protected] after they took our money last year. They have abandoned the mantle of leader and morphed into tail-between-legged followers. The one good thing is I will not have to use my jump program to hop to another phone this year. The Edge is solid and my favorite phone. Therefore, the option will be wasted on me this year unless some other OEM blows my mind. I reverted back to kit kat recently and have rediscovered the awesomeness of my Note Edge. #thanks4NOTEthing Sammy.
I agree its goodbye samsung. They have copied apple and it is the death nell for samsung. The reason I came to samsung from HTC was for the sdcard and removable battery.
The company that produces an android phone with stylus, sdcard and removable battery with get my custom.

I picked up an LG phone that had a stylus but it was just a pointer. it had no functionality at all. Honestly, and I say this in all sincerity, I have zero issues with my note edge. Would I have given it up for a version 2 and the new s-pen animations and functionality? Yes, but nothing that is in the note 5 - especially with all they took away, warrants me to move this year. I will never switch to apple but if there is something that comes down the pike, other than Samsung, I will not hesitate to look now. Whereas I never gave any OEM an opportunity to get my attention before.
Since the note edge is going the way of galaxy round...and while I appreciate the devs keeping this device alive, since I have a JUMP v1 upgrade on tmobile since late july I'm probably going to get the note 5. The longer I wait, the more I pay for a phone I have to trade in. It was 870 at launch. Note 5 is 700, s6e+ is 779.
The note edge was a niche device, and it was fun to use since getting it on launch day. The lack of software optimization and ruined battery life due to overuse of fast charging makes me want to give this device up. I never use the IR blaster, and I can use a 64gb flash drive for TWRP/CWM backups and rom zips.
I was considering the s6 edge plus, but since I have a note 10.1 2014, I can use the sweet new s pen on my 2 year old tablet.
But until I get my hands on both, I can't be too sure about which to get....
Anyways, long story short, gonna give up the note edge before I pay anymore into it.

Samsung is going to force a lot of people's hands to follow suite because they abandoned the development side. I, on the other hand, am looking to buy another one in a few months when the price drops down even lower. This phone will be looked at as a milestone , and possibly , a huge missed opportunity by Samsung at some point in the future IMO. There are just too many practical real-life experiences where this phone is the perfect technology at that moment. Good on the new phone though.
I love the note edge. .. Samsung missing a trick on this one.
The lack of SD card is a deal breaker for me also. Luckily I can use a phone for 2 yrs, by then maybe they will get it right.??

Agree on both counts. I compared my note edge to the s6 plus edge the other day to a person who was on the fence about the advantages. Needless to say the are looking to get the note edge before the end of next week. This phone is the real game changer and Samsung is really missing an opportunity. Oh well, I have mine.
An edge like the note should become a standard on all phones above a certain size.
It's that useful.

Accessing the main screen with the thumb actually feels awkward now.
I love the concept. 1 side curve is more beneficial than 2 sides. I am not sure why samsung didn't release note edge 2.

They didn't release the note edge 2 because even though it was limited, you can go into any carrier and see it collecting dust on display for the past 9 months. I got it on launch day and only saw one other person with the note edge, and I work in a hotel, so I see a LOT of people everyday with their phones out.
As much as I loved having a phone no one else had, it was cumbersome to say the least with the snapdragon 805 constantly getting hot and dropping frames, and the battery that couldn't hold a charge well because of all the quick charge cycles. Not to mention the lack of development(from Samsung). Props to sbreen and tekhd for keeping this device interesting for the 9 months I had this device.

Why buy all that though? I just upgraded to a gs6e+. Most gorgeous phone I've ever owned. Using qi wireless charging, so fast charging won't kill my battery like the note edge or fry my auto rotate like the gs6e.

Yes lack is development is there and disappointing as well. The edge part has a lot of potential but there are very limited apps. Also S6's edge is completely different from note edge so you can't expect development to carry on for long.
Another thing I can say is that there is no more recents lag like on the note edge. Loving that

Why do i always like the niche products? I miss my N900 by nokia running maemo. Amazing unique phone in a world of androids and iphones and it had a stylus like my note edge... My last phone was an Xperia z1 and I live in the USA, no one here has sony phones. I also had an lg g2x, I bought it for its unique tegra processor, one of the first of its kind.
It's sad to see Samsung take the safe route with the Note 5 but hopefully it's just them wanting a guaranteed income and can then go back to taking a risk again with the Note Edge.
While the Galaxy series is popular and well known it still pails in comparison to the iPhone and I would hate if they continued down this path as we'd all essentially end up with iPhones with Android on them.
Hi guys,
actually the Note Edge brought me back to Samsung, after I left 2 years ago due to big problems with my Note 3 and the customer service of Samsung. So I sold it and had a HTC One, which now shows the disadvantage of a built in battery.
But when I looked around to find my next phone I was even more upset by the fact that every nice phone had no changeable battery, sd-card etc.
Found the S6 edge+ sexy, but same problems there. So I decided to look for the last available innovation which had the battery / SD-card thing still available for my decision and boom: Note Edge.
Bought it in mint condition second hand, 390 €, from January 2015I What shall I say: I really love it, and I will be happy with it until Samsung recognizes its mistake and turn around.
Good to be back again.

Now that Samsung Galaxy S7 is here, how does it effects the scope of your Galaxy S6?

Well, Samsung did pull an Apple here. The launch of S7 felt like a bloated launch of iPhone 6s series. While not much changed on the outer shell of the phone, a lot of cool stuff got introduced inside the phone. :silly:
Waterproofing - IP68
SD Card is back
Insanely improved Camera with Dual Pixel auto focus and f1.7 lens
New display with Always on tech
A beastly processor upgrade - CPU/GPU brings significant gains over 7420
3000mAh of love.
IMHO, I feel that S6 was more of a pilot version on which S7 is banking with several upgrades above it.

So, are you planning to upgrade to S7 or any worthy competitor like LG G5 or maybe even Xiaomi Mi5 (awesome VFM)? Also, given the poor tracks record of Samsung with software updates, do you think we will receive all software goodness and maybe an Always-on implementation (AMOLED, should be possible)?
No, actually i'm very happy with my S6, if do upgrade this year i will go for iPhone 7 if not then next year probably to S8(i had HTC and IMO LG UI's ugly)
1. only thing IMO worth upgrading to S7
2. 32gb is more than enough for me so no need for slow SD cards
3. I have DSLR for photos, phone camera is mostly used for instagram
4. It's probably only software that enables Always on display, since both are amoled
5. S6 is already pretty fast and lag less
6. Now that is awesome
I'm happy with my S6. The S7 looks nice and I'll probably update to it in seven or eight months, but for now I'm perfectly content.
I like Edge. I wanted to buy Edge+ but when i saw it in my hand poooof it was ugly IMHO! But Edge is very nice again IMO. So i stay with S6 Edge because 5.5 inch edge it is not nice.
No ir blaster is a deal breaker. Going to wait for the note 6 and pray it has one. If not then going to wait for the s8 and once again pray it has one.

Nah, I'm waiting for new Nexus, until then I will use S6 with AOSP
I think s7 is rather targeted at s5 owners, so it is not a downgrade in ip68 and sdcard for them

Need advice/help?

Im deciding on getting a android phone to be next to my iphone. i was wondering is s7 edge still worth getting and can anyone tell me if the coral blue color variant looks to girly or does it look different in person.
The S7E is a great device. Especially with the good prices available right now since the S8 has been released. And now android 7 nougat is available so it's running one of newest versions (only 7.0 is available the newest is 7.1.2 I think and android 8.0 will be out this year but who knows when or if that will make its way to the S7E)
The coral color is powder blue. It's not girly to me... I have the gold one, and giving the choice I'd get the coral blue or black. But honestly ones you put a case or sticker (like d brands) you won't see much of the color anyway.
Sent from my Rooted Galaxy S7 EDGE on Android 7.0 Nougat, here's the instructions how to do it!
I would say wait until the Note "8". S7 Edge lacks in the memory, feel in your hands not quit so good and getting to show its age compare what is coming out this year (small main (internal) storage space is one of many things that is lacking compare to devices coming out this year)..
S8+ is more in line with today's technology. But!!! The feel in the hands is not much better than 7s Edge (little better but not much). In fact I was very extremely disappointed with the feel of S8+ in my hands compare the way the Note 7 felt in my hands. So I am hoping Note "8" will have more closely feel of the Note 7. Otherwise S8+ seems to give a feel somewhat larger and with more technology improvements over S7 Edge. Still the Note "8' will be more worth waiting for rather than getting the S8+ now or at this point to be stuck with S7 Edge for a couple of years.
If you are going from iPhone (iOS) to Android it is best to for the top end Android device if you don't want to be disappointed. Which is the reason I say wait for the Galaxy Note "8".
All in All, you are not saving money going with Android device vs iPhone (iOS). In order to get the experience one expects one needs to go for the top end device of current year. Not a lower end version or a last year high end device. This goes the same with iPhone (iOS) as well as for Android.
My girl is an ios user (i know i know i failed). Her iPhone 6 is only as good as my s5 as far as speed goes. Her camera is comparable to mu old S6. You can buy last year's flagship and be perfectly happy with it.
Yes when your a flashaholic and love getting into the root Files and tweaking it all you will see differences in performance, but a normal person wouldn't notice the difference between a S6 edge plus and a S7 edge...
