Well, with the anoucement of the Note 5 and is full spec sheet released Sammy has officially jumped the shark (Happy Days reference - had to be there). They took away the removable battery, no expandable memory, lowered the battery capacity and produced an Apple 6 plus clone. For the last 4 years I eagerly anticipated Samsung taking my money because I knew what I was getting was different and a standard setter. There is NOTHING special about the phone now - S-pen aside. I am very disappointed in Sammy for too many reasons. From the lack of development and vision - for a full year, to the lack of accessories to not giving a [email protected] after they took our money last year. They have abandoned the mantle of leader and morphed into tail-between-legged followers. The one good thing is I will not have to use my jump program to hop to another phone this year. The Edge is solid and my favorite phone. Therefore, the option will be wasted on me this year unless some other OEM blows my mind. I reverted back to kit kat recently and have rediscovered the awesomeness of my Note Edge. #thanks4NOTEthing Sammy.
I agree its goodbye samsung. They have copied apple and it is the death nell for samsung. The reason I came to samsung from HTC was for the sdcard and removable battery.
The company that produces an android phone with stylus, sdcard and removable battery with get my custom.

I picked up an LG phone that had a stylus but it was just a pointer. it had no functionality at all. Honestly, and I say this in all sincerity, I have zero issues with my note edge. Would I have given it up for a version 2 and the new s-pen animations and functionality? Yes, but nothing that is in the note 5 - especially with all they took away, warrants me to move this year. I will never switch to apple but if there is something that comes down the pike, other than Samsung, I will not hesitate to look now. Whereas I never gave any OEM an opportunity to get my attention before.
Since the note edge is going the way of galaxy round...and while I appreciate the devs keeping this device alive, since I have a JUMP v1 upgrade on tmobile since late july I'm probably going to get the note 5. The longer I wait, the more I pay for a phone I have to trade in. It was 870 at launch. Note 5 is 700, s6e+ is 779.
The note edge was a niche device, and it was fun to use since getting it on launch day. The lack of software optimization and ruined battery life due to overuse of fast charging makes me want to give this device up. I never use the IR blaster, and I can use a 64gb flash drive for TWRP/CWM backups and rom zips.
I was considering the s6 edge plus, but since I have a note 10.1 2014, I can use the sweet new s pen on my 2 year old tablet.
But until I get my hands on both, I can't be too sure about which to get....
Anyways, long story short, gonna give up the note edge before I pay anymore into it.

Samsung is going to force a lot of people's hands to follow suite because they abandoned the development side. I, on the other hand, am looking to buy another one in a few months when the price drops down even lower. This phone will be looked at as a milestone , and possibly , a huge missed opportunity by Samsung at some point in the future IMO. There are just too many practical real-life experiences where this phone is the perfect technology at that moment. Good on the new phone though.
I love the note edge. .. Samsung missing a trick on this one.
The lack of SD card is a deal breaker for me also. Luckily I can use a phone for 2 yrs, by then maybe they will get it right.??

Agree on both counts. I compared my note edge to the s6 plus edge the other day to a person who was on the fence about the advantages. Needless to say the are looking to get the note edge before the end of next week. This phone is the real game changer and Samsung is really missing an opportunity. Oh well, I have mine.
An edge like the note should become a standard on all phones above a certain size.
It's that useful.

They didn't release the note edge 2 because even though it was limited, you can go into any carrier and see it collecting dust on display for the past 9 months. I got it on launch day and only saw one other person with the note edge, and I work in a hotel, so I see a LOT of people everyday with their phones out.
As much as I loved having a phone no one else had, it was cumbersome to say the least with the snapdragon 805 constantly getting hot and dropping frames, and the battery that couldn't hold a charge well because of all the quick charge cycles. Not to mention the lack of development(from Samsung). Props to sbreen and tekhd for keeping this device interesting for the 9 months I had this device.

Why buy all that though? I just upgraded to a gs6e+. Most gorgeous phone I've ever owned. Using qi wireless charging, so fast charging won't kill my battery like the note edge or fry my auto rotate like the gs6e.

Yes lack is development is there and disappointing as well. The edge part has a lot of potential but there are very limited apps. Also S6's edge is completely different from note edge so you can't expect development to carry on for long.
Another thing I can say is that there is no more recents lag like on the note edge. Loving that

Why do i always like the niche products? I miss my N900 by nokia running maemo. Amazing unique phone in a world of androids and iphones and it had a stylus like my note edge... My last phone was an Xperia z1 and I live in the USA, no one here has sony phones. I also had an lg g2x, I bought it for its unique tegra processor, one of the first of its kind.
It's sad to see Samsung take the safe route with the Note 5 but hopefully it's just them wanting a guaranteed income and can then go back to taking a risk again with the Note Edge.
While the Galaxy series is popular and well known it still pails in comparison to the iPhone and I would hate if they continued down this path as we'd all essentially end up with iPhones with Android on them.
Hi guys,
actually the Note Edge brought me back to Samsung, after I left 2 years ago due to big problems with my Note 3 and the customer service of Samsung. So I sold it and had a HTC One, which now shows the disadvantage of a built in battery.
But when I looked around to find my next phone I was even more upset by the fact that every nice phone had no changeable battery, sd-card etc.
Found the S6 edge+ sexy, but same problems there. So I decided to look for the last available innovation which had the battery / SD-card thing still available for my decision and boom: Note Edge.
Bought it in mint condition second hand, 390 €, from January 2015I What shall I say: I really love it, and I will be happy with it until Samsung recognizes its mistake and turn around.
Good to be back again.

Gonna stick to Note 4
I like GalaxyS6Edge but i am going to stick to Note4 because SPen. By the way, SdCard and Removable battery are also my main reasons.
Sticking to S4 until I find a quality phone with MicroSD

Micro SD card get the m9.
For 5years I had several htc devices back to touch HD and now m8. The point was I hated Samsung for their plastic devices and TouchWiz. Imo sense is way better.
But now with the s6 edge samsung has done everything I expected. Metal Frame and unbloated TouchWiz. So I will switch to the s6 cuz for me it has the more advantages then the m9. I will miss sense and the speakers, but I will get a fantastic camera and design.
Gesendet von meinem HTC One_M8 mit Tapatalk
The only smartphones I have owned are the SG1 and 4. Contract is up at the end of the month so the 6E it is. Never had any issues with both phones.
from a Note 4
loving the premium build and specs on the s6 edge
Going to be coming from the G3.
Mainly for the green model and because the M9 is underwhelming. Also to have a new piece of tech to play with
Moving to the S6 Edge 128 from my HTC One XL (Evita) because it's just about time lol. Also my device now suffers from excessive random reboots and severe battery drain issues.
Small chance I might go with the HTC One M9, but I'm strongly leaning S6 Edge at this point.
My smartphone evolution: S3, Xperia ZL (only one week), S4, Oppo Find7a and last but not least Xperia Z3.
The S3 remains in my possession in case of loosing/destroying my current smartphone... it's a reserve. The Z3 is a really nice device but the camera isn't a point and shoot one.
After skipping the S5 (didn't like the backside) the S6 is a Samsung phone that attracted my attention again in spite of the glass back (Z3), the non removable battery (Z3) and the missing sd-slot (I lost many, many data because of a broken sd card!!!).
Perhaps Otterbox designs a water/dust/shockproof case for the S6...that would be great...waterproofing is a nice to have feature but it's nonessential.
Probably going to switch from a Note 4 because after having the iPhone 6 I always told myself my perfect phone would be Android running on the iPhone 6 hardware with the iPhone 6 camera... the GS6 looks to achieve that
Once I see what LG has in stock, I might move over from my G3. I have unlimited data on vzw so I'm not too concerned about storage and as long as the battery does well in the reviews, I might consider it since I do like the new look.
From note 3 because I want the fastest and best phone on the market aka s6. Also want to have a smaller phone (Higher PPI yeaaah)
Current device: note 3
Reasoning: really hoping to, but not switching mainly because of the lack of SD slot and removable battery. I love their choice of new materials, but not worth sacrificing the usefulness of those features (swap batteries often and like multiple SD cards for back up/romming/music/etc.). Additionally, I've always opted for snapdragon variants (although I am not opposed to exynos, but that real world performance remains to be seen in this case), and the extreme protrusion of the camera is a real turn off.
Coming from M8 after a really good two year journey with HTC... I have very high expectations for the S6.

The price is definitely a concern to me since if I was going to get one, I would go with the 128GB model to get over the fact that I don't have an SD card anymore. Thank god I have a partner that allows me to buy stupidly pricey stuff every so often. As far as the locked boot loader, I would have to see how people are able to build out custom ROMS that run on Sense. Especially with the Edge model, I'm wondering if running on Sense might allow for the extra features on the phone to run better or at all. I always run Nova as my launcher so Touchwiz's interface would be running in the back instead of in my face all the time. On top of that, this would hardly be the first phone I've used that had a locked bootloader that the dev community has managed to get unlocked. We have some very talented people on this site that manage to do some very cool stuff. I remember in the early days of the M8, people were saying that we were doomed to get the device fully unlocked. Now, it's very easy to get that thing running fully unlocked. Plus, if we're super lucky, Samsung might release a developer edition with at least 64GB if not 128.

We aren't talking about the Note 4 camera. We are talking about the camera on the S6. This is going to be the best camera in a smart phone upon release. The iPhone will be a distant second. By the way, you might be the first person I've heard that has anything negative to say about the pics rom the Note 4. I personally don't have one, but everyone I know that has one thinks it blows the iPhone away.
Coming from a One plus one. Just sold it on swappa and also sold my moto 360 just in case the device is a little more expensive. all in all , have $800 to spend. Lookiing at the 64GB Edge version. hopefully its just 750 and I use the other 50 to get a case or something,
Why? well honestly, I wanted the iphone 6 design with android and samsung has accomplished this (not something to be proud of). Also because of the fingerprint scanner, the speed of the device, the smaller screen compared to my 1+1, and samsung pay. oh and the attention grabbing aspect of the 6 edge
After the Samsung event today, when the pre-order went live, I got crazy over which one to buy. Even on samsung website, they have put a teaser to select the one I like. For being a note fan, I was inclined towards Note although I loved the edge display of S6 (never liked the 'S' series though). But finally, I took the big step. Ordered one S6 Edge+. Thought why not give a try, I can always change it after a year or two if its not that good, but I gotta try the edge for once.
So, which one did you buy ? (if you thought its worth the upgrade ofcourse). Or do you think I made a mistake ?
Yeah who know's if it's a good choice or not - tell us what it's like when you get it
Note 5 pretty much killed the Note series
I'll get it on 28th. I expected a delivery with the release date, however, I booked mine from BestBuy since they were giving away a free wireless charger (please note that this is not the fast wireless charging pad). I'll post some reviews once I use it for considerable time.:cyclops:

I'm still on my note 2 here. I was waiting for the announcement to decide if I wanted to go to note 4 or note 5.
The lack of SD card and no removable battery killed it for me.
Then I saw the new keyboard case!!
Omg be still my heart! It's been 4 years since my beloved HTC G2 and it's physical keyboard.
I might jump ship from the note and go for the s6 edge +!
I don't use my spen very often...
I like the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge plus, but the battery maybe the big problem which is bother me. Do I need to carry a power bank with it all day lone?
I wonder if existing S6 Edge owners will be pissed since they just bought a spanking new phone only a few months back, and now so soon an upgrade has been released.
Edge+ for me. I rarely used the S-Pen and just bought the Note line due to the large screen. Battery is a concern, but we will see.
Note 4. Samsung makes decision easy.
Being in the UK it would have to be the S6 Edge+. The only issue is that currently my provider (O2) has announced There will be 1 capacity available - 32GB but it hasn't even been 24 hours so I'm hoping it's incorrect.

Exactly. The only thing good about the Note 5 or S6 Edge+ is the looks, mostly everything else is a downgrade over the Note 4.

So... I'll buy a Nexus 5 2015.
I got a ship notification for the GS6E+ for a Monday delivery. I guess AT&T had them ready. I just ordered a few hours ago.
Im soo hyped i just got both the S6 Edge+ and the Note 5 pre ordered and im going forum post trigger happy lol I hope they mod, custom rom etc the works on these devices cuz i cant wait to see what these magicians can do with these devices!
which color are u getting, looks like US is getting only the black and the gold version, i was keen on the silver titanium version.
The verizon store owner who is also a friend told me that the gold version looks very classy, as a samsung rep brought it over to the store to show it to him.
I am kinda finding it hard figure out, if i should get the gold or the black

Well, I'm not the one to judge what you should or shouldn't buy, however, I wouldn't say its a downgrade in anyway. For further clarification, let me take a few examples of the things people have been complaining about:-
Lower Battery Life
-You might say it has a 200-300 mAh lesser than any competitive device or even older Note devices. However, there is a good reason for that too. The new AMOLED is highly optimized for less power consumption compared to older Note devices. GS6 Edge and Edge+/N5 packs the same Quad HD resolution, hence the screen consumption will be same even though the screen size is bigger since the PPI is reduced in Edge+/N5 (which is again irrelevant to naked eye).
-The 14nm processor is way more power efficient than the older processors used in Note series.
- The non inclusion of SD Card also positively affects the battery life, check google for more info (we will come to the negative side later)
- The LPDDR4 RAM in newer smartphones have double the efficiency (data rate) with considerably less power consumption.
Even though I do not disagree that inclusion of bigger battery with some compromise over thickness would have been better, however, the battery (even though sounds less on paper) is equivalent (if not more) to what we used to get in old note series.
Missing SD Card
This seems to be one of the biggest worries for most of the folks, and they do have a valid reason for that. However, if we talk about why the SD Card hasn't been included, I can tell you its definitely not because SD Card is not supported with UFS2.0. The real reason is due to UFS2.0 being too fast (atleast 3 times of eMMC 5.1 ). When coupled with an SD Card, just imagine the user experience when half the app is running from UFS2.0 while its cache/data is stored in SD Card, that might actually lead to lags. This is the same reason for Apple not supporting SD Cards too (they don't use UFS2.0 though). Although its not the perfect replacement, however, you can pick some cheap sandisk otg flash drives for like 10-15 bux or may be wifi flash drives for like 30-40 bux. At least that's what I use.
Removable Battery
I think they did it to make create that unibody design and give it the premium look. I know it might not be what we were looking for in Note series, however, I do remember the days of the past (like 2 years back) when Samsung was criticized for their cheap plastic models compared to metallic HTCs. Well, guess what, they heard us. Even I miss this one. I'm looking forward to pick one MobilePal QI enabled power bank which retails at around 38 bux. I know we can't carry another bulky device with us all the time, but samsung didn't leave us with much choice in this area.
Missing IR Blaster
I still couldn't figure out what made them get rid of this. I was so much looking forward to this one and this is probably the only thing I would miss on my upcoming flagship. Can't do much here either...
Overall, I do not think Samsung has released a downgrade to its predecessors. The inclusion of amazing hardware [14nm fastest processor, UFS2.0, DDR4 RAM, Fast Wireless Charging, LTE Cat9, Optimized S-PEN, etc] bundled with its fair and unique software does put it above any other flagships in the market ( if we do not consider the price range ). Again, this is not for the sake of any argument, its just as per my analysis. Please feel free to correct me if I've mentioned anything wrong.
If you don't like to call it a downgrade then call it a sidegrade if you like and of cause the SOC, Fast RAM, Software improvements for the SPEN and so on are on the plus side. The problems you name for a SD card would apply to OTG storage just the same, besides you have to have this externally plugged in tearing at the usb port. For now the majority of S6 users seem not to be very impressed by battery time. Maybe software improvements can make that better and the hardware has the potential to deliver equal running times, but for S6 users this promise is not yet fullfilled.
The plastic back of Samsung phone always were a pro argument for me and i did never understand why people cried for metal or glass bodies. A plastic back is light weight, very cheap replaceable. Never had a problem with that while other phones with metal bodies had poor connection strength.
Actually i bought the Note 4 yesterday from my carrier for 19,95€ with contract prolongation while a S6 (without edge) with 128GB would have cost me more than 340€ and S6edge+ will probably be even more expensive while having only 64GB and the Note not be available for Europa at all (at least for now). Paying 300-400€ more for a phone that has some technical advantages and a lot of disadvantages in usability and the promise that regarding battery time it might come close to the note 4 and some of the insufficiencies can be compensated, somehow. Sorry, I don't see this for me.
I think their new commercial slogan will be "Samsung, making decisions easy!".
I have to say that I was pretty hyped about this device while watching the unpacked event. Then again I am always stoked when new devices are announced and released I am just a tech nerd I guess. I am not hating on this device. In fact I have already pre-ordered mine, and at full price so I can keep my Verizon unlimited data however there are several flaws present in this device. These flaws are especially true if you are upgrading from a device like the Galaxy S5 or Note 4.
What do you guys think? Are these flaws enough to keep you away from the Note 5? I mean it still has plenty going for it. Revamped premium design, great screen, great camera, SPEN, Samsung Pay, wireless fast charging and the list goes on and on.
Coming from an LG G2, it's a clear upgrade across the board. I dont even fill up my current 32GB so the 64GB note 5 I have preordered should be more than enough space.
Im upgrading from my 64 GB S6 Edge to the Note 5 just because I like to be on the cutting edge as for CPU and SOC and Camera.
I find it very very very funny that allot of my co workers and friends are UPGRADING to the Note 4 or Note 4 Edge even though the Note 5 is coming out in a couple days lol.
Even though I like Note 5 for the Camera and CPU and GPU and the Glass on Glass construction, I have to admit, Samsung Failed.......
It is a great video and those are not a deterrence to me coming from a S4. Hopefully I will get to see his next video on why to get the Note 5. At this point I might consider the Note 4 just to save money. Either one is a big upgrade for me.
Why is everyone complaining. The note 5 is not an upgrade. They literally took the note 4 and rewrapped it.

Honestly. People say that a lot..but it's wrong. It has most of the Note features that were on the 3 and 4, but the software is completely different. It's more like the s6.
Hardware is completely different too. It has the s6 hardware with more ram. I'm not sure why people think it's just a note 4 in a new body. It's far from that.
Not saying there isn't a level of disappointment. .there definitely is, only for different reasons. If I was coming from the Note 4 straight to the 5 without a 4 month pit stop on the s6, I'd be stoked. Problem is, I have the s6 and this is basically that with the spen features added. The Note line used to be a bigger upgrade over the previous S version. This year it's not.
Let me get this straight. Rootjunky does a 4 minute video of what he believes are flaws for the Note 5 and then pre-orders one anyway?

That's what you call a classic sheep! It's quite pathetic really.
Maybe the trend has changed and the Galaxy S series is the phone to get the newest changes first. Seems to me with the S6 Samsung threw it against the wall and it stuck. It sold lots of phones and maybe for the more mainstream users the Note 5 will sell a ton. I think Samsung Note line was getting stale and needed an update. Heck if Samsung wasn't trying all this weird stuff with devices who knows where the smartphone market would be.

I am hardly a sheep. Vote with your wallet and Samsung will get the message. The way I see it the new S6 design sold well so they figured they could capitalize on it with the Note 5. If they don't sell many the Note 6 may be different. If you don't like it buy another device this round. Seems that SD card slots and spare batteries are gonna be a thing of the past whether we like it or not.
By the way no disrespect to Rootjunky. He is great for the community but at this point everything is speculation.

As far as we know, the S6 doesn't meet the expectations of Samsung in terms of sales.
I think, the Note 5 we are seeing is simply the result of decisions take a moment ago , regardless of the sales of S6.
I don't think there was anyway Samsung was going to keep increasing market share in the Android world. Probably why they have toyed around with Tizen. The flood of cheap phones from so many manufacturers was bound to happen with an open ecosystem. I think they figured that out a long time ago. They want to be the premium android manufacturer and not play in the low price war. They were probably smart and would have lost more market share if they had kept producing plastic, me too kind of devices. That's also the same reason they've always pushed all their special features (or bloat) Try to get you locked into something like Apple does. It just doesn't work unless the operating system is locked down and you control it.

Let me get this straight. Rootjunky does a 4 minute video of what he believes are flaws for the Note 5 and then pre-orders one anyway?

DroidModderX did the video LOL and yes I did pre-order the device and it arrives Tuesday. I think this device will be great, but i believe it is my job to weigh the pros and the cons of these devices.
I only have 3 major flaws but they are all deal breakers:
-no IR
-no 128GB
-Not available in the Netherlands
Other disappointments:
-small and non removable battery
-fragile build materials
-same processor as s6
-same camera as s6
The 2 main flaws I can think of, are the lack of mircoSD card and the IR blaster.

well the MicroSD is just the trade off for going with UFS 2.0. The memory controller doesn't natively support SDcards, so in order to have an SD card slot the phone would have to use eMMC 5.0/5.1 memory controller (which also supports SDcards), or add in a 2nd memory controller just to control the microSD slot. Which is a lot of PCB and headache just for a microSD slot, and i'm not sure if the Exynos 7420 would even allow you to use 2 different memory controllers at once, so i'm not even sure if you COULD just throw in another memory controller, even if you found space for it.
Basically, UFS 2.0 as the memory controller currently stands just doesn't support microSD, the next iteration of the UFS controller could potentially add microsd support, but I wouldnt count on it either.
As for the IR blaster, likely a space issue, but only samsung would know on that one.

You do know that the S6 edge has the exact same cpu and camera, right? The only thing thats upgraded is the memory. You were already on cutting edge.

So what?
anyone can buy an a mediocre product. The thing is, it will disappoint and will no longer make you happy every day like the its predecessors did. Especially if it is grossly overpriced.
yes, for the majority of us, it would be insane to buy galaxy note 5, especially for its price.
but some people could, it's their choice.
i, personally, will vote with my wallet, and will advice AGAINST buying samsung products in my community.
Thanks for the correction. I don't know why I confuse those guys.

I sold my Verizon Note 4 on Swappa in less than a day, so I preordered the S7 Edge, I saw it at Best Buy first before I made the decision, it's an incredible phone. I didn't want to wait for the Note 6 and don't use the S pen much, and was waiting for SD storage to return and the S7 Edge fits the bill. Definitely excited but have to us an old Galaxy S3 for two weeks now.

At least the S3 could be rooted. But it must be torture going back to such a small screen.

Yeah, screen is tiny and battery is crap, but its my original, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running Android 4.3 , you forget how many improvements have been made to both Android and Touchwiz since the S3, the Edge can't come soon enough..
I just can't go back to a smaller screen anymore. My note 2 and now this the 4 spoiled me.
I almost never use the s pen. Only once in a blue moon for a novelty.
I don't like the edge phones since I can't put an otterbox on them.
So I'll wait until the note 6 comes out and if that looks good I'll pick one of them up. Or just keep my note 4 which is still going strong. Heck, my Droid x and s3 are still kicking and used everyday. I put that s3 trough nearly a new rom a week, sometimes 2 a week.
I can't go backwards on screen size. I'm anxiously awaiting a 6" or larger screen. Who knows if I'll leave Verizon for it. The only thing coming to Verizon that has a six inch screen is the HP Elite x3 (Windows Phone). I may considerate it. ( I use such few apps, I won't really miss any of them on Android.) I rarely use the S-Pen to be honest and screen and camera are what I consider the most important.
I wish HTC would make a decent phone again. I'm not sure if I can play the waiting for Samsung Updates Game again.
No, I like the big screen! I am waiting for the note 6 in the fall, or for something better for me along the way. I am excited the Micro Sd card is back, and hope it is in the note 6. I really wish the battery was exchangeable. So as I say, I am watching for something that would fulfill my needs. I am kind of waiting to see what the upgrade to the LG V10 might be I kind of liked that phone also. Ohh and Root-able would be nice I missed that with the Note 4 Argg Samsung and Verizon!
The sd card is a moot point since Samsung has disabled the adoptable storage feature. They are most likely to limit the memory on all future phones with 32gb because it's their marketing strategy. Thus still limiting the app memory to 32 gb minus the system & bloat space. I personally am done with Samsung.

@outcasted2003 basically your saying their like the HTC touch diamond but with an Android os .

I know nothing about HTC but Samsung is shooting themselves in the foot with their new marketing strategies. They want to be like Apple it seems. The new GS7 is nothing more than a GS6 with waterproofing, little bit bigger battery and a basically useless sd card slot to expand the internal memory.

Hi, can you update how are you feeling when you get the phone. From 5.7 inch to 5.5 inch screen, I am also using note 4 and plan to upgrade to s7 edge but I am not sure if that .2 inch will be a big difference.

I went and played with one at Best Buy, screen size difference is very nominal, however, the S7 Edge is a much smaller footprint (overall size), which is nice, as the Note 4 was big.
I personally hate going backwards in screen size for any reason. I still prefer a phone with a removable battery and if it must be a fixed battery I'd ideally like 4,000mAh+. Also, 32GB as the only storage variant was fine in 2014 but not in 2016 for a flagship. Finally, I'm bummed about no Type-C connector. If the Note 4 addresses all of the above concerns while still packing a microSD slot and launching Type-C support (remember, the Note 3 introduced USB 3.0 support back in 2013) then I'll make the jump. Until then I am hoping that the combination of Marshmallow (eventually) and a new 128GB microSD card can keep my Note 4 functional at least through this year.
I'm with ya hkklife. I was so keen on the upcoming LG G5 with its metal body and replaceable battery and SD card. But then I saw they went to from a 5.5in screen to a 5.3in screen. Now I need to rethink things.
Maybe when it does hit stores and I hold it in my hands, I'll feel different but going backwards in screen size is not something I want to do either.
Just wondering if any S8 user has or thought about maybe going back to S7. I love the S8 screen but the narrow design is different. I think I might prefer the S7 size and S8 isn't a big upgrade. imo I've had the S7 over a year which is a long time for me not sure if I want to go back since it will be maybe 5 months when the Note 8 will be out. I'm on T-Mobile Jump and not when I can Jump to my next phone if I stick with the S8. Another thing I bought at T-Mobile store so would have to pay the restocking fee.
i've thought about going back to me S6 edge plus several times, not sure I like the rounded screen edges, all the unlock features either dont work reliably or take several seconds. I find the fingerprint sensor on the back fiddly compared to my S6 so I dont use it. Everything else is fine, speed is good, screen quality very good and camera is slightly better than the S6, having 64 gig also helps though.
Only thing keeping me with it is that offical LED case hasnt turned up yet, if that turns the screen on without having to press the button this might save it for me. Where you can get apps to turn the screen on and off if you are using non samsung cases these apps interrupt the unlocking systems so you have to swipe to open every time, no doubt this is a deliverable decision by samsung to force you to buy one of their flip cases.
Not in a million years. First off, I only had the S7E because my Note 7's finally got bricked by Verizon (IMEI brick). The S7E was a step down from the N7. Now comparing the S7E to the S8+?? Makes the S7E seem very dated. It is not even close. I can't wait until we see what the Note 8 will be - it will be even nicer than the S8/S8+. No way in hello dolly would I take a step back.
S7 very dated come on man It's still a great phone. S7/S8 shouldn't be compared to a Note series. I've been a phone whore since 2000. It's never ending and pricey. I keep telling myself to stop or at least cut back. Phones just don't wow me as much.

I didn't say it WAS dated, but it feels dated compared to the S8. And yes, using them side by side, it feels dated. I also didn't say it isn't a great phone (the S7E), just compared to the S8 it is not nearly as nice. For many people the getting an S7 WOULD be an upgrade. My GF was using an S5, it worked fine for her, but I got her an S8 and it is night and day difference between them. Is what it is.
I have had many, many, many smartphones over the last ten years myself - too many to remember. I usually get at least one upgrade a year, sometimes I have done two. Every time I have upgraded there was a noticeable difference. The Note 4 was the phone I kept the longest (almost 2 years) because the Note 5 had no SD card support. So going from my Note 4 to the Note 7 was a HUGE upgrade. The Note 7 is still nicer than the S7E, but the S8+ is definitely a worthy upgrade to the Note 7. That being said, if I was still able to use my Note 7 I would not have gotten the S8+, but waiting for the Note 8. As is, the S7E was lacking too many things and had a tad smaller display for my needs compared to the Note line of phones and also compared to the S8+.
