Hi
I have an issue not specific with the 6p, I see the same issue with my Nexus5
I use Google Drive on Android to upload photos and videos and other files.
After many months of usage, the Google Drive app size is taking a few gigs and I don't understand why??
I don't use offline files on Drive, and If I clear the cache in the app setting, it doesn't help.
So the only solution I got is to clear all the app data after a few months . Do you understand why?
Is it that Drive is keeping a local backup in the app of every files I upload from the phone?
Thanks

It shouldn't be. Drive only shows 63mb data on mine.

It takes 46.26 MB on my 6P.
You can just clear the Google Drive app data from Settings > Apps, and re-login. See if this works.

Yes it works and I know it (see the op)
But why do I have to clear app data after a few months all the time?

This has happened before?
And the last time you used the same method to solve this?
Keeping the app info aside, does the storage menu in Settings show the same?

Like I said in my first post, I have to clear app data everytime after a few months of usage
On my girlfriend Nexus 5 last week, she had no storage left and I had to clear Drive app data to get back 3 gigs.

Probably because, you use the 'Available Offline' option for any of the files, in your Google Drive?

Try that for one of your files (a bigger file probably, >50 MB) in the Drive, and check if the storage spaces consumes more data. It will confirm the situation.

I uploaded a big video 500mo and yep... The Drive storage is taking more space, about the same as the file I uploaded.
Now it's 1.5g instead of 1gig
Why is it doing this?

Now when you look into Google Drive, and open the menu of a file. You will see two different options there, Download or Make available offline.
The difference between the two is - 'Download' option allows you save the file to your storage, and you can browse/open/modify it from other third-party apps too, besides just Google Drive itself. On the contrary - 'Make available offline' option, does the same thing, but it saves the file under the app itself, and it could only be accessed within Google Drive.
So, for the latter the file is saved under the Google Drive app, which in turn shows the increase in storage space. If you use the Download option, the app storage wouldn't be affected at all.

But I don't download them and I don't use offline. I just upload a video from the phone to Google Drive, nothing more.
If I look at the file I uploaded, it's not available offline. And even if I delete it from the app Drive I don't get back the storage in the app (not talking about the storage in the cloud)

It is weird then. I only get an increase in the app storage if I use the 'Make available offline' option, otherwise everything just remains the same.
I hope someone else has a solution for your problem.

A sneak peek at the next version of Android Market and Music app
Posted Apr 5th 2011 6:00AM by Sebastian Anthony
In what is probably a bit of a big-G whoopsie, the folks at Tech From 10 woke up to find a new, test version of Android Market installed on their Galaxy S.
Visually, the new version is almost identical. The carousel of featured apps has been updated slightly, and apps now have a 'Content rating,' but that's it (image after the break). The interesting bit, however, is the inclusion of alpha and beta apps -- most notably, there's a new version of the Music app, which looks like a scaled-down version of the Android 3.0 Honeycomb Music app (see right).
Also available from the test Android Market is 'Google Gallery 3D New 10.2', 'Google - Camera v12' and 'Google Desk Clock 10' -- but, curiously, all of the apps refused to launch on Tech From 10's Galaxy S (Vibrant) smartphone. Are they Honeycomb apps? Or, more likely, are they destined for the next Android smartphone OS, Ice Cream?
If you want to try out the new Honeycombish Music app, Tech From 10 has made the APK available for download. You can also download the three Google apps, if you want to have a poke around.
Link here: http://i.downloadsquad.switched.com...next-version-of-android-market-and-music-app/
The link seems to be down, but I posted the music app.
Maybe the devs can tweak and add these in...

It is setup for google music cloud, so that you can stream. the cloud is not setup as of yet.
Are you able to upload music to the Google cloud and stream it? If so, can you tell if it uses up your gmail/picasa available space? I paid for extra storage for picasa and I assume the music service would share from the same space.
Thanks.

If it's a Google cloud music service, it would need access to your account for syncing, etc.
If its for the gallery it has to do with permissions dealing with your Picasa albums.

I have only installed the music app. Since then I have had some weird things happen on my phone. The YouTube login started to fail several times even though I didn't open YouTube. The phone locked up and needed a battery pull. 2 pictures I took never saved. Up until now i haven't had a single issue with this phone and that is the only thing I have installed recently. Might just be a strange coincidence...

Anyone get the Clock app working? looks like it might be like the Honeycomb clock from the way the Icon looks after its installed. It just fc's on me each time i try to run it.

I remember that with enabling live wallpapers on 2.0.1, someone changed the sdk number to the one of 2.0.1. Anyone care to try?

Just wanted to put this out for those of you who are wondering where all your sd card space went. Go to you SD with a root explorer(I use ES explorer) locate a folder named LOST.DIR it is essentially a trash bin for your phone full of broken files, partial files, random cache files, temp files etc, delete the contents of the folder, or the whole folder if you are doing it from your phone, reboot your phone to rebuild the folder enjoy lots more space. Mine was using just under 4gb(3.98) and more than doubled my free space after deleteing and I haven't had any issues since deleteing since it is all temporary or broken files, by broken files I mean it collects all the remenants of apps you have deleted that left junk files behind but it doesn't empty itself, so mine had almost a years worth of files inside

I was wonder how the hell I'd used almost 11gb up so I was looking at folder sizes found that LOST.DIR and then looked up what it was figured I'd delete it and got back 4gb so I let it run over night no issues and thought I'd share lol basically had everything in it from 2 phones I'd used the sdcard in and copied across new cards not realizing I was transferring 50% junk
We are legion, for we are many
You should have a lost.dir on your SD the evo builds the folder every time it boots but mine is now just an empty folder instead of 4gb of crap lol I now have almost 9gb free instead of just over 3 I found some other folders that were old that I had no use for and got another 3.2 gb back then deleted all my old nandroids and made a fresh compressed on and bam 8.95gb free now lol

There are 2 folders called lost+found on internal but wiping cache and dalvik clear those out so no need to delete them LOST.DIR the only way I've found to clear it is to delete it since its tied to the SD card but being as how its all junk files its safe to delete most of what was in mine was file fragments or cached thumbnails from apps I had deleted that left bits and pieces behind just can't believe it was 3.98gb of garbage collected on my SD from what I understand most of the stuff if put in there when the SD checks for errors at boot or when you mount USB to the PC and don't click eject drive before unplugging
We are legion, for we are many
Empty trash in options on bootmanager does this as well. Got about 5.5 gigs back the first time. There is also a trash100 file you can empty.

My .trash1000 folder was empty and my bootmanager is being retarded first it told me my liscense was invalid so I uninstalled wiped cache and dalvik and then reinstalled and now its telling me "error downloading files check your data connection" X( GrRRRrRRr
edit: boot manager is really starting to piss me off its been more trouble than it's worth first it kept freezing on rom switch and the update.zip wouldn't work so I'd have to nandroid back, got that working but it wouldn't boot from SD rom back to phone rom and I'd have to flash the update.zip or nandroid to get back, and now its giving me all kinds of errors driving me nuts
We are legion, for we are many
That blows!!! I've had a great experience with it so far. In fact running on decks off SD right now. I'm down to under 1 gig on my 16 gb card, so need to find some more files to dump.

Damn. Was hoping this would help me. In the last few days, I've lost about 180mb storage. Can't find where its used.
Last month (on a different from), my storage dropped from 520mb to 115 overnight. I found a lot of stuff and deleted it, but next day, my 245mb had dropped to.....(I'm not ****ting you 0kb free space - which, of course had me in a sweaty state of panic). I deleted everything I could. But then next time I flashed a rom (wipe data, cache, dalvik and VRsuperwipe), I got about 600mb back.
I had gone thru every file and folder on my card, and nothing seemed new or out of place. Anyhow, I just checked my LOST.DIR and its empty. But damn, I still have precious MB disappearing. And believe, when I'm hunting I go thru every folder on my SD (hell, I spend 30% of time on my Evo on SD, and the other 70% on xda app).
Anyhow. Thanks.

Mine is 2.38MB so I'm just gonna leave it for now.
But one thing for everyone.
I use ES file explorer. It has a great sd card analyst that I find very helpful. Just hit the menu button and click managers and then sd card analyst. It'll tell you what's using up space on your card....

Find the folders involved, and put a file named ".nomedia" in them. Then download "Rescan Media" (or other app) from the play store, or clear data for the gallery and let it rescan.
Should clean it up.

I was wondering if there's any way to increase storage on the Nexus 4 is it possible to swap out the Nexus 4 internal sd card for 64 gig expandable sd card and load the system on? I have a nexus 4 8 gig model and I want to increase storage. It sucks only having 6 gigs. Just tell me is it possible? And I don't want to use cloud storage

Short answer: No!
Long answer: There is no way to replace or expand the onboard memory.
There are no internal sdcard in the Nexus 4, that would be extremely poor design. The flash memory is soldered on the board.
You can try the Sandish WiFi flash drive or get the Nexus 5 32gb.
Get a otg-cable and you can plug in a usb flash drive

I don't know why I have 25GB. I didn't buy any storage expansion.
Mainly I use my Drive to store pictures/PDF. Of course, I spare 5GB on the phone for my Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and The Who collections, 1GB for apps, some MB for important files and the rest is free.

yeah i agree with the previous posts. just use cloud storage, there's a lot of them. you could also use google play music access to store your music in the cloud. then you also have google drive and dropbox for you office files. i also use the features of facebook and google+ in syncing my photos with them. now the only thing i cannot back up are my saved games and apps
Hi, somebody has experience this issue? When dialing takes long time to hear the tone; the call goes normal and everything, but, when you are going to start the call simply takes longer than usual. I am actually using Simple mobile in the US (similar to TMobile)

I get that as well,on T-Mobile US.
Not on every call though,my guess it's a network issue & not hardware/software related.
I'll compare with the Note 8 when it arrives (pre-ordered on 8/24),I've subscribed to this thread,I'll post my results as soon as I've had 2-3 days of use.
To have a better apples-to-apples comparison,I'll try w/o VoLTE & WI-FI Calling / with each enabled / both enabled.
Cool, it may be a network issue too

It's really simple as to why this happenes, basically because you can't enable VOLTE your phone needs to connect to a 3g service before it can connect the call, this is why it's different everytime (depending on how close you are to a 3g mast). Flashing a custom recovery and making your own csc (with VOLTE enabled) might fix this but you can only test it

Totally solved, I flashed a CSC from a note 7 and worked beautifully. Now everything works as it should: fast calls, no more delays, voicemail icon, fast access to voicemail pressing the number 1 and the most important, 4g late... Which is awesome!

I took it from the note 7 forum, but Is not perfect, still having the delay thing on the calls, and the signal drops a lot... Are you sure about it?

If you're having issues with it, I'm good.
It's just a minor inconvenience at worst, I don't miss any calls/messages,etc......
FWIW, I've compared to my T-Mobike US Note 8,it has no call delays at all....

Is obvious, but I don't think is a hardware issue

Update:
I recommend to install the csc code that I mentioned before, I have a week using it and is great, also you can add the data toggle editing the CSC code (because it comes from the S7)

Ok, let's get started...so, what you have to do is the following:
1) root your phone.
2) install TWRP.
3) this is mandatory, make a backup.
4) then, click on this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/development/utility-flashable-csc-selection-v1-0-t3450911 and download the convenient zip, there are two depending of the carrier.
5) flash it through TWRP and reboot the device, let it seat for a while.
6) at this point, everything should be fine; when you flash this zip some stuff will disappear from the status bar like the mobile data toggle.
7) this is optional. If you want to see the toggle on the status bar, we must add something to the CSC code. First of all, find the CSC folder located at /System,Omc and access to the carrier folder of your election (in my case was T-Mobile) and let's edit the others.xml file (you can use ES explorer to do this)
Inside the CSC code, find the following code line: <CscFeature_SystemUI_ConfigDefQuickSettingItem>Wifi,Location,SilentMode,RotationLock,Bluetooth,WifiCalling,PowerSaving,AirplaneMode,Flashlight,Nfc,Sync,BlueLightFilter,Aod,AllShareCast,SecureFolder,DeviceVisibility,DormantMode<
Then write at the end MobileData. Save the changes and reboot your phone.
