Anyone gone from iPhone to Moto X? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got an iPhone 6 as an upgrade in December, I was really pleased with it for about a month then started getting fed up, it was boring, same old same old from Apple that hasn't really changed.
I started getting itchy feet to return to Android, I took the plunge last week, traded in the iPhone 6 and bought the Moto X Play.
I am more than pleased with it however one thing is starting to annoy me and feel it might eventually put me off and that is the size.
Big screen is good however whats not good is the DPI, For such a big screen is shows no more information than the original Moto G, everything is blown up which would be great for someone who is visually impaired I am not however. I did try to chance this in ADB but certain apps start messing about.
Another annoyance is thickness. Its very thick and chunky, I bought a case for it yesterday and its like being returned to 2008 in regards to thickness,
Anyone else feel like this?

I agree on the blown up part, the only proper solution is to root it and edit the build.prop file. about its thickness, since you're coming from the slim ip6 with small battery, you'll absolutely feel the changes. My past phones has been moto so I've gotten used to the weight and thickness.
Without root the only way I could think of is installing other launcher like Nova, go into its settings, modify the desktop grid and icon sizes. Then in android settings itself, go to Display and set the font size to small. Not sure if this would even work though. As for the case, I myself use the Nillkin frosted shield, it doesn't add up much bulk to the phone.

Use Nova launcher prime. You can change all icon sizes to very large or small. If you dont like the thickness i can advice you to buy a original flip cover from motorola to keep your device thin as possible.

can you share with us your experience in night camera shots compared both?

LG G5 vs LG G4

In this topic discuss about this 2 devices. Are you satisfied to see lg's new phone? How is new UI compare to G4? Does G5's modules worth?
If you ask me : The design of g5 simply awful than g4. Probably the build quality is better. New UI not bad at all. Only thing that i didn't like is that, there is no app drawer on G5. It is interesting to see mew modules on G5 but for me, i don't need to use them.
Hands-on videos made me change idea about this new G5:
It seems to be a very good phone and the new UI is quite fashinating to me
(But launcher icons are ugly, ahah :silly
I don't appriciate new design (the front), but that would be confortable to use, IMHO
Think they should have stuck to 5.5 inch but guess their thinking is 5.3 inch phone is nearer size of most of the flagship phone competition, so in theory more likely to sell more units. Whether in reality that's the situation only time will tell
The smaller display means no G5 for me....5.5in is the smallest display I will go for these days.
I'm going to see what the S7 Edge looks like (on paper and in-hand)...the rumoured 5.7in screen with the curves might feel like a 5.5in device without the curves. The battery and waterproofing I'm hearing about has me interested in this product, and the Note 5 has much better outdoor brightness so I'm hoping that will carry forward to the S7 series.
If the S7 Edge does not do it for me ergonomically, then I'll see what the V11/Note 6 has to offer later this year, or if I get impatient maybe the Nexus 6P (but the 6P might not be much of an upgrade for me over the G4).
Personally,im not very impressed with the new G5.
I'll wait for the g6
Also waiting for the G6. Or the new nexus, we'll see how it compares.
Most likely, bootloader unlock will be impossible, so for me it's a no go (but that's subject to change if development takes off)

Can't see many people buying modules. After all your gonna need to take case off of you want to use them, and how many people are going to want to risk dropping their brand new phone without a case on. I just can't see it taking off anyhow, don't see that's whatwhat the majority of people want from a phone.
And the metal premium body looks pain ugly imo. May have well stuck with plastic/leather.

Sure, they should've used 5.5" screen, but that raises one important question: How big do you think the G5 would be if they used 5.5"? I look at it this way, G2 had 5.2" and one of the best screen-to-body ratios ever. Now the G5 has 5.3" screen while at the same time being taller than the G4 and having a smaller battery... Not impressed at all . They are fishing in the dark, experimenting too much and instead of focusing on the important stuff (soc, screen, camera, battery, design), they introduce some gimmicky "friends" whom practically nobody will use as they will probbably cost 50% of the price of G5. I'm a bit dissapointed...

Well, I'd be the first to get a module for a bigger battery. And you can't see people using it? Yeah I mean, it's that much better that we basically get clone after clone of the S6 or 6S that are just sealed off and "premium". LG is literally the only company that is actually trying to innovate stuff and do something different. I watched the S7 conference and it was like watching any Apple press conference ever. A lot of fancy words with a lot of bull**** behind it. As for the case, I've had an iPhone 4, iPhone 5, G3 and now a G4 and I have yet to put a case on any of my phones. And no, they don't look like they've been trough hell and back.

That is true, the screen to body ratio just gets worse. And how didn't they focus on the important stuff? You have a brighter screen, the 820 SOC, a better camera (or at least equivalent to the V10/G4), a premium metal design (looks nice to me). The only thing that sucks is the smaller battery, but then again, maybe the 820 will compensate for it with better efficiency? Who knows, we'll see.
Feature wise it's alright. No worse than my current G4 (didn't use QSlide or, really, any of the LG additions), but the smaller screen, lack of an app drawer (which, I know, can be compensated for with a 3rd party launcher; then again I would've wanted to give the stock launcher a go), and, most of all, a hideous design are the reasons why I would not get the G5 (moreover, I own the G4 for just under five months). Wonder what they come up with next, but if I had to make the switch now, it most likely would not be a G5.
Small battery, no back buttons, small screen, hideous bulge at the back, friends without benefits , nice idea with modular build but afraid to see "my modular hole entry display broken" like comments......
No go for me. Waiting for next year. Except the SD 820 nothing worth spending so much money.
We have to add a bigger space and pay for Bang & Olufsen module to have a good quality sound ? We don't have to do this with other devices like Meizu or HTC or others devices, Stoopid LG...
G2 and g3 was small diference and no need to upgrade from g2 to g3, g2 to g4 yes, same as g4 to g5 - NO g4 to g6 - yes , simple
I'm done with LG after the G4 because of its issues, mostly the bootloop.
If I wasn't, LG lost me at a smaller screen, smaller battery, and removing the buttons from the back.
Everything was going great until I realized that I need to turn off the phone, remove the battery and turn it on again if I want to listen to music using a 3.5mm headset.
Not that pretty (camera protrusion?), but a metal body is nice.
Size - not a big deal to me, as I use both the G4 and V10 and don't seem to have a preference in terms of size
Camera - interesting having two rear cameras, thou I doubt I would care. The dual fronts on the V10 are actually somewhat useful (group vs single selfies)
No volume button on the back, that I don't like so much
Module addons? Another meh for me, personally. Replaceable battery is good.
UI? meh. I use google now anyhoo. the G4 and V10's uis are ok, though.
I'd take one if it were free, maybe. Dunno If I would upgrade to one, though.

My mistake, for a moment, I thought that the top-mounted 3.5mm jack was just the IR blaster.

Phone Care

Hello guys.
My parents gifted me a brand new Moto G5 Plus (2GB RAM/Dual sim) bought from Chile.
My only two android phones had software issues (I got them for free so no complaints) so therebefore I never care so much about them. Both were small and resistants (S3 Mini and Moto G LTE - xt1040).
The S3 Mini ended with the camera blurred because got stripped with the use. My Moto G works like a charm, many strips on the screen but nothing important, the phone fallen a lot times but never broke .
Now this is a new level for me, giant screen. It scares me, any care you recommend me? I don't want to use with screen protectors or anything, I really hate them.
Also, I read that the screen has gorilla glass, whats about the back camera? Flash and the whole circle has any protection or should I take so much care?
Anyway the phone is amazing but I really want lineage os, I hope we get it soon!.
EDIT:
Which launcher comes with the phone? I saw on internet that has pixel launcher but its a lot different to the pixel launcher that comes with google pixel phone (I have the same on my Moto G and it isn't transparent when you search all apps)
EDIT2:
Is there anything to change about camera settings? My photos doesn't look good, colors are darkness and the definition looks very bad, even doing focus. I didn't tried outside so maybe is the light inside my home.
The only thing I changed is the aspect ratio. I am using 4:3 because of 12 MP, not sure if I should use it or change again to 16:9 (9.1MP).
I attached a photo.

One Plus 5 dropped the bezel ball

Good grief. It's got Pixel sized bezels!
The good old Galaxy Note 3 was so far ahead of its time when it came to minimal bezels.
Galaxy finally has small bezels again but no root for US phones. Or LOS/AOSP ROM's.
OnePlus 5 had a chance to swoop in but dammit if the bezels and phone with its 5.5" screen are still bigger than the old Note 3 with it's 5.7" screen.
I really don't like this bezelless trend. I've played with the G6, S8 and owned the note 2-5.
Screens are delicate enough, and good tempered glass has only become harder to find since this curved screen craze has shown up. We don't need any help with making our phones any more delicate, thanks.
Not trying to flame you in anyway, I just honestly think we do not need bezelless displays.
Bezel-less is a gimmick. Looks good from a design aspect but the functionality isn't 100% there since black bars when watching Videos/VR Apps/OS have to be made to work
Also 1+ tries to keep the cost of their devices to a minimum and in a video they did mention they'd use a bezelless display but currently wasn't in a position to do it
In future we will all have them folding phones, but till then phones should retain a minimum amount of bezel, because its more functional that way, phones like S8 are a disaster. Those who actually use it know it. At the same time the size of bezel on the Pixel is an abomination.
I don't know why OP created the OnePlus topic though, liked their first attempt, second one was cooler, third one was the best from them and now this one is simply pathetic. Not that I buy these sort of phones (brand I mean here) but still, not everyone is gonna, or should land a U11 or a Pixel anyway.

I completely agree.
I have larger hands than most and need some surface area other than the screen to hold on to.

Same, I'm 2 meters tall with hands just as freakishly large, while I am no advocate for Xperia size bezels *Twitches* or pixel xl sized bezels *Shudders* I would much rather see some front firing speakers than this bezeless craze continue.
I just generally upset with where phones are going right now... I felt like last year we got so many awesome upgrades,
The Moto Z play keeping it conssitent with amazing battery life and a success at modularity.
The Honor 8 bringing dual cams in. (Even though this was not the first android phone to do this, I think the honr 8 was the first one that picked up a lot of steam.)
The S7 (I can't believe I said this, I dislike samsung, but I have to get them their credit) but water resistance, wireless charging, good camera, micro sd all in one package!
The Axon 7 filling in the gap for htc with their identity crisis, bringing the best front firing speakers with the same processor and screen resolution as flagships of that year..
The Pixel (Price way too high, I know..) but it's Google's Foray to inject their product to more people.
LG, with... Hah, wait, no they still ate it in 2016.
Then processors for 2016, I felt there was such a huge jump from the 810 to the 820. With performance and heat.. To me it seemed like manufacturers were trying to improve the usability of their phones, with this year, we are killing headphone jacks and trying to get bezelless phones that are wafer thin. I would much rather have a phone with a larger battery or more room for heat dispersion than a phone that would break if I accidentally sat on it wrong.
I'm not trying to discredit anyone's desires here, I just feel like focusing on bezels is so... Secondary.. It's aesthetics, I thought we should just leave that for Samsung and Apple to chase, (And LG to pretend they can catch up)
Smaller bezels = smaller phone. I want the smallest phone possible with a LARGE screen.
That Note 3 was just damned perfect.

I agree. Not sure Samsung's goal was specifically for a bezeless phone, but more likely to put the biggest screen possible on the smallest chassis they could build. In that respect, I love the trend. I'm not fond of cutting the screen a la the essential phone to decrease phone size
I'd be happy with a phone the same size as the Pixel with the same bezels. Better battery, SD card slot, waterproof, good camera, and unlockable bootloader.

I know it's probably a lost cause but i am hoping they keep the AUX jack as well.
Besides curved edges and delicate display concerns the thing that bothers me about the bezeless design trend is that the more they reduce the bottom bezel the further down on-screen keyboard becomes. This results in more stress to my hand when swipe typing which is my primary input method on my phone. On the S8 it's not too bad since the phone is narrow and I can reach the lower corners of the keyboard fine when holding one handed but on the S8+ stretch becomes more pronounced and I suspect long stints of texting will be an issue for me.

"Look" of the device (aesthetics)

Is the OnePlus 6 as good-looking as you are (despite your receding hairline, adult-onset acne, and massive weight gain)? Rate this thread to express whether you think the OnePlus 6 is attractive. A higher rating indicates that you would even go as far to say that the OnePlus 6 is a beautiful phone.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I wanted go get the one plus 6 but I could never get over the notch. No matter how good the phone in term of specs I would be still holding a wanna be iPhone x. I went with the s9 plus. At least its original and unique design.
Dude, SGS9+ have a 158mm notch on both sides of the screen... so...
I just love the design and the big screen which is kinda nice although its a 1080p panel but the colors are sharp and accurate. I got the mirror black version which has the awesome premium glossy n shiny back to it, I just love it. And as far as the notch is concerned by many people, you can literally just disable the notch show in the software and it just looks like a regular notch less phone.
Psst.. its waaayy better than a Samsung considering the prize range.
What notch? When disabled it's invisible... Love my 8gb / 256 GB phone ???
Very good looking phone
oneplus6 is ugly piece of junk which developed by designers with broken hand and complete absence of taste
but it has hardware and software and hardware specs that you can get only in more uglier sams s9+
I'm highly upset that even for high $ I cannot get the phone that has everything !!
MidnightBlack OnePlus 6 looks really dope!
I have both Samsung S9+ and OP6. Aesthetically, S9+ looks more prime than OP6. The finish of S9+ is impeccable. I have USA unlocked S9+ and it still comes with lot of crap ware. OP6 has much lesser bloatware and since it's to root, you could simply uninstall any app you don't use. I also feel Screen is brighter and sharper than OP6. I also like S9+ camera. Only reason I use OP6 as my daily driver because of speed and performance. OP6 user experience (at least mine) is much better than S9+. However, S9+ does have better aesthetics in my opinion.
This iteration has quality control issues. My SIM drawer surround catches my finger slightly and the nylon filler inserts in the frame are more obvious compared to the OP5.
I have never liked the 'horizon line' that Carl Pei celebrated at release; I firmly believe 'form follows function' and can find no reason for it to barrel as it does. Sadly, Apple has the phone form right - IMHO; all that is needed is a rectangular block with rounded off corners and mildly rounded arrises. Anything else is simply styling to delineate from the competition (and prevent patent wars).
I'm finding, with the screen to the very edge, that sometimes the way I hold the phone interferes with my attempts to scroll. The fleshy part of my hand, being the rump of my thumb, falls over the screen and acts as a touch. This means there are limits to bezel size and/or edge touch-screen sensitivity. I really do find a chin - something I can hold with my thumb and forefinger in a cantilever grip far preferable.
In the days of yore phones came with a small anchor-point in the body so a cord or leash to wrap around the wrist could be attached. In the UK, and probably elsewhere, phone snatching is a problem. A leash could help prevent a phone snatch,
To those notch haters; get real; it is possible in software to remove it. But it is an interim step on the design process; it will be gone in an iteration or two, I have no doubt.

And are you disappointed with the notch or overall build (glass back, camera position etc?)

I might have to agree about quality control. I've found that the tiny gap bw the glass back and aluminium sides is (very) slightly larger on one side.
Receive mine today.
Really don´t like the Notch, and that big thing with 2 cameras on back isn`t very aesthetic...
My note 3 from Xiaomi is much more sexy, blue, and also my Find 7 witch carbon back.
Apart that, nothing to complain about it.

Yes, mine too. I forgot to mention that. I use a felt-lined leather slip-case and often see small straggling thread caught between the frame and the glass back at the lower right corner (when viewed from the back).

not so much annoyed by the notch...but hate the fact that now network speeds won't appear on the notification bar..a bit annoyed to pull down notification shade everytime..
but screen quality and performance is leaps and bounds ahead when compared to my old RN3..

Totally agree with you about the network speed thing but that happens cause of the notch I am sure, overall Mirror Black looks amazing:good:
I got a silk white variant a couple of days ago and it looks wow.. I don't know why are few complaining for the design and colors. It looks very premium.
And regarding notch, there is always an option to hide it.
As someone who always runs black themes and wallpapers on amoled devices, the notch is mostly invisible.
And I don't get the people being so salty about the notch despite the fact that it's the shortest one among all notched phones ( and narrowest if you exclude water-drop notches and the one of the Essential PH-1 ) so it doesn't really interfere with the status bar. And when you go fullscreen with apps, the notch height gets blacked out and you still have 6 inches of the screen to view content on.
And even when you put a proper wallpaper on it, especially on AOSP roms, it looks unique in a good way( at least to me ). The notch on my last phone ( Xiaomi Mi 8 SE ) was hideous and it bothered me a little, but I actually like this one. It's what every notch should be like; a fair compromise to get a higher screen-to-body ratio.
If you don't like it, you're free to buy a Samsung or SONY phone ( SPOILER: you will have to get a second-hand one, encounter a great deal at your carrier...unless you're in Croatia where those are non-existent or cough up a lot more than you would for the OP6 ) and slap an AOSP GSI on either.
My only gripe, it's too thin. A slightly thicker phone would feel more secure in the hand and accommodate a larger battery.

They might fix that for the OnePlus 6t by increasing the battery size
I think that the device looks really good and premium. The design is just awesome and I don't really mind the notch.

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Hi as the devices are out in the German speaking countries, some initial comments from my side. I am coming from different devices including Fold 1, N20U and the one with the i, just as a background. My main daily driver in the last 12 months was the Fold 1 which I absolutely loved, that's why I ordered the Fold 2 on the first day.
- Overall a real 2.0 version of a 1.0 product I loved. A lot of improvements
- The small screen is a lot better, I was using the small Fold 1 screen quite often and liked also typing on it, as I swype heavily, and the short distances make it really quick. That advantadge is still there, but smaller, on the other side typing of words which you can't swype like passwords is easier now due to the additional screen real estate.
- The quality of the small screen has significantly improved from my point of view in terms of brightness and clarity
- I hated the small screen for only being able to arrange three apps in the permanent row at the bottom, and it is 5 now! Big improvement
- Audio is incredible, I also had the Mi10 which was the king in that category from my point of view, Fold2 equal or better. Incredible loud. Don't forget to turn Atmos on.
- I treated the Fold 1 very carefully for a couple of weeks, until I found out that nothing happens - actually my 1 year old Fold 1 is in best condition although handled like any other phone. I am in the same phase now with the Fold 2 - I am worried
- I have the Aramid standing cover and I don't like it. It looks cheap and covers only a part of the device, additionally it is more instable on a desk than without it. I am planning to switch to the leather cover
- Training the face recognition is so incredibly fast (1-2 seconds) that I think this cannot be save....
- You have to switch the large display to tablet mode in order to get tabs in the browser or multi window in outlook, this setting is only visible if you have the display open. Took me time to find it. Only then the large inner display makes real sense
- I am a heavy user of the small display and mainly use the large one for media consumption, which results in something like 60/40 usage small/big. With this setup, the battery seems to be fantastic, although to early to provide any detail. The German magazine CHIP made exactly that test and came to incredible runtime with the small display.
- The haptic of the whole thing made a big step forward compared to fold 1, especially the hinge. Real great feeling.
- Not really a dealbreaker, but strange: The flashlight is the weakest I had on a phone for years
- I am everything but an expert for smartphone cameras, more the point and shoot average user. Photo quality seems great to me, but look for better experts to talk about that. The usability is great, fast and responsive
- Generally, same comment applies to N20U and S20U, I think the OneUI made big steps forward in the last two years. Especially looking at the whole eco system with watch and earbuds, the whole user experience is now really great and close to an other phone (can' remember the name, someting with an i as far as I remember)
This are my initial impressions. I am happy with my purchase up to now.
Digging the Samsung Notes app on the big screen. Obviously doesn't support S-Pen but finger writing works surprisingly well.

So after 5 days, thoughts...
First of all, the delivery was surprisingly on time, (never bought directly from Samsung Germany before) so that was a good start with the experience.
I wasn't overly impressed with the unboxing though. But still, unwrapping the warnings of was a good feeling. Then closing the device for the first time was a "wooow" moment. Coming from the Fold, that hinge feels so sturdy and worthy. I guess I played around, opened , closed the device for a minute or 2 before booting up the device.
It's screen protector in and outside are perfectly fine for the moment. The inside feels a bit "rubbery" and cheapish if I may say so, but it does the job fine.
The big screen is bright enough and clear enough for the everyday use. Regarding the flex mode, I do not give much about it. It's not mature enough yet to use it fully IMHO.
The outer screen, geez I use it a lot. I already used it quit often on the original Fold, but this upgrade is an enlightening. One hand usage, swiping my messages away. A quick look at social media is lovely, reading quickly any article is OK.
The build in general is sturdy, mature and a joy. I have the Mystic Black version. No need to tell anyone it's a fingerprint magnet. It's slippery as well.
And that's what annoys me a bit. I don't care they didn't put any extras in it this time. I mean, you just spend 2000 euro/dollar on a device. Then 60 Euro shouldn't be that big of a problem either. But they should've had it available in shops, online etc to get a case, cause you want to protect it, and this Mystic Black version is slippery as an eel.
I need a case or skin for this version.
But the conclusion is, samsung nailed it, to give us a 2000 euro experience, that feels like a 2000 euro device.
Did I need they phone? No, do I wanted the phone? Yes. But can I go back to a "normal" phone after 2 generations of foldable phones? Probably, but difficult it'll be...
After heavily utilizing my Mystic Black Fold 2 for a weekend, here are some of my thoughts below. I'll try not to repeat common things that I've read here or seen in reviews, but overall, I'm loving this device and having a pocketable large screen!
- The narrower front screen is surprisingly easy to type on, even without swiping. I have nubs for thumbs and I was shocked that I wasn't producing typos left and right.
- The visibility outside for both screens is pretty good, though the inside screen suffers from high reflectivity when outside in the sun. It doesn't affect you as much if you're looking straight on and slightly closing the hinge to angle the display helps.
- This device is so slippery it continually falls out of my pocket when I get in my car or sit at an angle. Where are you Fold 2 cases?! So far no damage but there have been a couple close calls.
- I have tried to be extra careful with this device but the inside screen protector is scratched up. I only notice it at certain angles under bright light but it makes me sad. I'm tempted to remove the inside screen protector but I'm not sure the ultra thin glass would hold up any better.
- The power button is a bit awkwardly placed for my hands and I found that I was constantly swiping up/down on it by accident which opened/closed the notification shade so I turned off that gesture.
- Speaking of that power button, it's tough to feel the button when attempting to scan my fingerprint but that could be due to me being used to face unlock with my iPhone 11 Pro and Pixel 4XL. I'm sure this will become more natural over time and the fingerprint scanner is mighty quick.
- I haven't found many widgets I like as they're not yet optimized for the screens (this includes some of the Samsung apps which surprised me). Many take up a lot of room on my homepages but then have small/compressed text/images. Hope this improves over time.
- I love the ability to be able to have multiple apps open but I initially got confused (and frustrated) with the Android split screen multi-tasking. I hope to be able to take advantage of this more as I use the phone.
- Very minor gripe but I wish there were more stock live wallpapers like how Google provides with their Pixels.
- Not sure if anyone else is encountering this but when I open to the bigger screen, there's a click that happens if I press down on the hinge on a bit. I found that opening to the larger screen by applying more pressure with the tips of both thumbs prevents this.
- Sometimes I get "disoriented" over which screen orientation I'm on when using the larger screen (i.e. is it currently in portrait or landscape?).
- When I have the device open in landscape, I like to keep the speakers on top both to project the sound a bit better and b/c the back half with the camera is a bit more grippy compared with the front screen (I took off the front screen protector).
- Haven't had any issues using Samsung Pay with this device.
- This device is amazing when you're out shopping with a significant other and need to keep the kids entertained with the large screen and loud-ish speakers!
Needs a TOTAL makeover!
I love it yeahhh!
My absolutely favorite phone is ... Nokia e90 Comunicator. I had this 3 times ln the past. Still have one Nokia e7 in perfect condition. I had also Htc Z . My first Android.
